Mattresses

Night time is a period when we all want to relax from our everyday tensions and troubles of life. However, if this also turns out to be a discomforting experience, there cannot be anything more annoying. We all want to stay comfortable in our cocoons at night, but money is also an important consideration.

Due to this, homeowners have been divided into two divisions – ones who are ready to spend any price for their comfort and the others who are quite economical and therefore not very choosy about the mattress they are using unless they can actually afford those expensive comforts of luxurious mattresses.

Memory foam mattresses – a remedy for your back pain

The good news especially for these economical homeowners is that superior memory foam mattresses are now accessible at affordable rates providing you a refreshing and relaxed sleep.

One of the most common complaints that people make relating to their sleep is about their back pain. People are more likely to change sides frequently during the sleep if their hips or back is getting hurt. Foam mattresses cushion the body so well that you do not feel any pain and ensures you a sound sleep.

Even when you have any temporary pains like pregnancy, upgrading to this fine quality mattress can provide you with great rest.

By enhancing your experience of sleep, it can help you to rest your body and thereby increase your energy levels, so that you achieve more than what you decide without feeling lethargic. The popularity of memory foam mattresses has increased tremendously in the past few years. Also, its price is dropping with every passing year.

Regular v/s memory foam mattress

The disparity that lies between any regular mattress and memory foam mattress is awesome. They don’t only have a visual appeal, they are something that you should actually go to the sales floor and feel it yourself to realize its true worth. Though most manufacturers make available a complimentary trial period for these mattresses, but it is hardly possible to return it
back after the trial period once you have experienced the luxury of sleeping on them.

Upgrade gradually to mattress

In case, you don’t want to invest straightway into the memory foam mattress, you can initiate with a memory foam pillow or a topper. This will gradually acquaint you with the benefits of these luxurious products. It is advisable to start with a topper only and then shift to the mattress to make your experience the most contented one.

The term alternative therapy covers a wide array of treatments, with a corresponding variation in levels of acceptance amongst the medical community.

Alternative medicine is a growing field, but sometimes relies more on anecdotal evidence than careful study.

The most reputable alternative treatments include chiropractic, prolotherapy, acupuncture and acupressure, and massage therapy.

Chiropractors use spinal manipulation to adjust the spine. Their goal is to ease pressure on the nervous system by properly aligning the spine. Spinal manipulation tries to restore joint mobility by applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement. Chiropractic is the most popular form of alternative therapy.

Prolotherapy is a treatment in which a sugar solution or other irritating substance is injected into the periosteum, the fibrous tissue covering the bones, in order to strengthen the attachment of tendons and ligaments.

Acupuncture and acupressure are based on the ancient Chinese philosophy that a life force called Qi flows through the body. If the flow is impeded, the body can become ill. Acupuncture uses needles to unblock the flow of Qi, while acupressure uses massage to accomplish the same thing.

Massage therapy can benefit back pain sufferers by increasing blood flow and circulation, decreasing tension in the muscles, reducing pain caused by tight muscles and even improving sleep. Massage therapy can provide relief for many common conditions that cause back pain, such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries and various other soft tissue sprains and strains.

While the majority of treatment for lower back pain is non-surgical, there are some conditions for which surgery is appropriate. As well, in some rare cases, surgery can be used to treat chronic back pain for which other treatments have failed.

In a laminectomy, part of the lamina, a portion of the bone on the back of the vertebrae, is removed. It can be used to treat herniated discs and spinal stenosis. In microdiscectomy a much smaller incision is made and the doctor uses a magnifying lens to locate the disc.

The smaller incision may reduce pain and the disruption of tissues, and it reduces the size of the surgical scar.

With a laser discectomy, a laser is used to vaporize the tissue in the disc, reducing its size and relieving pressure on the nerves.

Spinal fusion may be used to treat spondylolisthesis and degenerative disc disease. In spinal fusion, two or more vertebrae are joined together using bone grafts, screws, and rods. The fused area of the spine becomes immobilized.

Vertebral fractures can be caused by trauma or by osteoporosis. A vertebroplasty injects a cement-like mixture called polymethyacrylate into the fractured vertebra to stabilize the spine. Kyphoplasty inserts a balloon device to help restore the height and shape of the spine before injecting polymethyacrylate to repair the fractured vertebra.

Disc replacement surgery can now be done in cases where the disc is severely damaged. Here the disc is simply removed and replaced with a synthetic disc.

Back pain may be relieved with a variety of techniques. For most common occurrences of back pain, a regiment of rest, hot and cold compresses, exercise and therapy, as well as various pain medications can be used to reduce the pain and provide a level of comfort.

Hot and cold compresses, used separately or by alternating, can have great benefit in reducing back pain. Heat is used to relax the muscles. It works by dilating the blood vessels, which improves the flow of oxygen to the affected area and reduces pain and muscle spasms. Cold packs are used to reduce inflammation, such as that from arthritis or injury. This works by decreasing the size of blood vessels and the flow of blood to the area. It is important to avoid prolonged application of either heat or cold packs, especially near the organs found in the abdominal cavity.

Exercising is of great benefit both to someone suffering from back pain and for anyone hoping to avoid it in the future. If you are suffering from acute back pain, exercising may not be possible or even a good idea.

However, for chronic back pain, a regular exercise program is recommended. Exercises will help strengthen the muscles that support the back, and increase flexibility and range of motion.A physical therapist can help you in developing an exercise plan that is suitable for you and your condition.

Nonprescription medicines can be used to reduce pain. They include medications like aspirin Tylenol, which are meant for general pain relief. Anti-inflammatory drugs are used to reduce swelling. These include such nonprescription medications as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil). Stronger prescription-based medication is available, both as pain relievers and anti inflammatories.

Simple lower back pain can be caused by straining the muscles, tendon or ligaments of the lower back. The most effective prevention is to take care as to how you lift heavy objects. Do not try to lift any significant weight by bending over the object. You should bend your knees and then lift with your legs. Avoid twisting your body while lifting. When moving heavy objects, pushing is less stressful than pulling. Routine activities, such as housework or gardening, can cause back pain. Avoid standing flat-footed while bent over.

A sedentary lifestyle will contribute to back problems.

Regular exercise will improve the flexibility and strength of the muscles which support your lower back. These include the abdominal muscles, as well as those in the legs and back. A simple exercise routine can help prevent back pain throughout your life. Obesity is a common cause of back pain. Aerobic exercise can help manage weight concerns. Swimming, jogging or even walking are all activities that will help you lose weight and feel better.

In addition to exercise, a proper diet is essential in managing your weight. However, there are also two nutrients, calcium and vitamin D, that help build healthy and strong bones and prevent osteoporosis, which can cause bone fractures that lead to back pain.

Many people whose jobs involve sitting for long periods of time experience back pain. It is important to get up and move around regularly. If driving for long periods of time, take the time to stop and get out of your vehicle.

Stretching your muscles and improving blood flow to your lower body will help prevent back pain, as well as help keep you alert for the rest of your trip.

Changing the position in which you sleep can also help prevent back pain. The best positions are either to sleep lying on your side with your legs bent, or lying on your back with a pillow under your knees. A firm mattress is usually the best bet. A sheet of plywood can be placed between the box spring and the mattress in order to increase the firmness of your bed.

Most back, leg, and arm pain is nociceptive pain. Nociceptive pain can be divided into two parts, radicular or somatic.

Radicular pain: Radicular pain is pain that stems from irritation of the nerve roots, for example, from a disc herniation. It goes down the leg in the distribution of the nerve that exits from the nerve root at the spinal cord. Associated with radicular pain is radiculopathy, which is weakness, numbness, tingling or loss of reflexes in the distribution of the nerve.

Somatic pain: Somatic pain is pain limited to the back or thighs. The problem that doctors and patients face with back pain, is that after a patient goes to the doctor and has an appropriate history taken, a physical exam performed, and appropriate imaging studies (for example, X-rays, MRIs or CT scans), the doctor can only make an exact diagnosis a minority of the time.

Research has shown that most back pain that does not go away after conservative treatment usually comes from one of three structures in the back: the facet joints, the discs, or the sacroiliac joint. The facet joints are small joints in the back of the spine that provide stability and limit how far you can bend back or twist. The discs are the "shock absorbers" that are located between each of the bony building blocks (vertebrae) of the spine. The sacroiliac joint is a joint at the buttock area that serves in normal walking and helps to transfer weight from the upper body onto the legs.

Fluoroscopically (x-ray) guided injections can help to determine where pain is coming from. Once the pain has been accurately diagnosed, it can be optimally treated.

What are the basic types of pain?

There are many sources of pain. One way of dividing these sources of pain is to divide them into two groups, nociceptive pain and neuropathic pain. How pain is treated depends in large part upon what type of pain it is.

Nociceptive pain

The body's nervous system is working properly. There is a source of pain, such as a cut, a broken bone or a problem with the spine. The body's system of telling the brain that there is an injury starts working. This information is passed on to the brain and one becomes aware that they are hurting.

Neuropathic pain

The body's nervous system is not working properly. There is no obvious source of pain, but the body nonetheless tells the brain that injury is present.

What are treatment options for sciatica?

Bed rest has been traditionally advocated for the treatment of acute sciatica. But how useful is it?

To study the effectiveness of bed rest in patients with sciatica of sufficient severity to justify treatment with bed rest for two weeks, a research team in the Netherlands led by Dr. Patrick Vroomen randomly assigned 183 such patients to bed rest or, alternatively, to watchful waiting for this period.

To gauge the outcome, both primary and secondary measures were examined. The primary outcome measures were the global assessments of improvement after two and 12 weeks by the doctor and the patient. The secondary outcome measures were changes in functional status and in pain scores, absenteeism from work, and the need for surgical intervention. Neither the doctors who assessed the outcomes nor those involved in data entry and analysis were aware of the patients' treatment assignments.

The results, reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that after two weeks, 64 of the 92 (70%) patients in the bed-rest group reported improvement, as compared with 59 of the 91 (65%) of the patients in the control (watchful-waiting) group. After 12 weeks, 87% of the patients in both groups reported improvement. The results of assessments of the intensity of pain, the aggravation of symptoms, and functional status revealed no significant differences between the two groups. The extent of absenteeism from work and rates of surgical intervention were similar in the two groups.

The researchers concluded that "among patients with symptoms and signs of a lumbosacral radicular syndrome, bed rest is not a more effective therapy than watchful waiting." Sometimes, conventional wisdom is not as wise as research!

Other treatment options for sciatica include addressing the underlying cause, medications to relieve pain and inflammation (including oral and injectable cortisone) and relax muscles, and physical therapy. A variety of low back conditioning and stretching exercises are employed to help people recover from sciatica. Surgical procedures can sometimes be required for persisting sciatica that is caused by nerve compression at the lower spine. Sometimes pain management specialists help with chronic sciatica conditions.

What are sciatica symptoms?

Sciatica causes pain, a burning sensation, numbness, or tingling radiating from the lower back and upper buttock down the back of the thigh to the back of the leg. The result is lumbar pain, buttock pain, hip pain, and leg pain. Sometimes the pain radiates around the hip or buttock to feel like hip pain. While sciatica is often associated with lower back pain (lumbago), it can be present without low back pain. Severe sciatica can make walking difficult if not impossible. Sometimes the symptoms of sciatica are aggravated by walking or bending at the waist and relieved by lying down. The pain relief by changing positions can be partial or complete.

What are causes of sciatica?

While sciatica is most commonly a result of a lumbar disc herniation directly pressing on the nerve, any cause of irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve can reproduce the symptoms of sciatica. This irritation of nerves as a result of an abnormal intervertebral disc is referred to as radiculopathy. Aside from a pinched nerve from a disc, other causes of sciatica include irritation of the nerve from adjacent bone, tumors, muscle, internal bleeding, infections, injury, and other causes. Sometimes sciatica can occur because of irritation of the sciatic nerve during pregnancy.

What is sciatica?

Sciatica is pain in the lower extremity resulting from irritation of the sciatic nerve. The pain of sciatica is typically felt from the low back (lumbar area) to behind the thigh and radiating down below the knee. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and begins from nerve roots in the lumbar spinal cord in the low back and extends through the buttock area to send nerve endings down the lower limb. The pain of sciatica is sometimes referred to as sciatic nerve pain.

What are other causes of lower back pain?

Other causes of low back pain include kidney problems, pregnancy, ovary problems, and tumors.

Kidney problems

Kidney infections, stones, and traumatic bleeding of the kidney (hematoma) are frequently associated with low back pain. Diagnosis can involve urine analysis, sound-wave tests (ultrasound), or other imaging studies of the abdomen.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy commonly leads to low back pain by mechanically stressing the lumbar spine (changing the normal lumbar curvature) and by the positioning of the baby inside of the abdomen. Additionally, the effects of the female hormone estrogen and the ligament-loosening hormone relaxin may contribute to loosening of the ligaments and structures of the back. Pelvic-tilt exercises and stretches are often recommended for relieving this pain. Women are also recommended to maintain physical conditioning during pregnancy according to their doctors' advice. Natural labor can also cause low back pain.

Ovary problems

Ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis not infrequently cause low back pain. Precise diagnosis can require gynecologic examination and testing.

Tumors

Low back pain can be caused by tumors, either benign or malignant, that originate in the bone of the spine or pelvis and spinal cord (primary tumors) and those which originate elsewhere and spread to these areas (metastatic tumors). Symptoms range from localized pain to radiating severe pain and loss of nerve and muscle function (even incontinence of urine and stool) depending on whether or not the tumors affect the nervous tissue. Tumors of these areas are detected using imaging tests, such as plain X-rays, nuclear bone scanning, and CAT and MRI scanning.

What are uncommon causes of low back pain?

Uncommon causes of low back pain include Paget's disease of bone, bleeding or infection in the pelvis, infection of the cartilage and/or bone of the spine, aneurysm of the aorta, and shingles.

Paget's disease of bone

Paget's disease of the bone is a condition of unknown cause in which the bone formation is out of synchrony with normal bone remodeling. This condition results in abnormally weakened bone and deformity and can cause localized bone pain, though it often causes no symptoms. Paget's disease is more common in people over the age of 50. Heredity (genetic background) and certain unusual virus infections have been suggested as causes. Thickening of involved bony areas of the lumbar spine can cause the radiating lower extremity pain of sciatica.

Paget's disease can be diagnosed on plain X-rays. However, a bone biopsy is occasionally necessary to ensure the accuracy of the diagnosis. Bone scanning is helpful to determine the extent of the disease, which can involve more than one bone area. A blood test, alkaline phosphatase, is useful for diagnosis and monitoring response to therapy. Treatment options include aspirin, other anti-inflammatory medicines, pain medications, and medications that slow the rate of bone turnover, such as calcitonin (Calcimar, Miacalcin), etidronate (Didronel), alendronate (Fosamax), risedronate (Actonel), and pamidronate (Aredia).

Bleeding or infection in the pelvis

Bleeding in the pelvis is rare without significant trauma and is usually seen in patients who are taking blood-thinning medications, such as warfarin (Coumadin). In these patients, a rapid-onset sciatica pain can be a sign of bleeding in the back of the pelvis and abdomen that is compressing the spinal nerves as they exit to the lower extremities. Infection of the pelvis is infrequent but can be a complication of conditions such as diverticulosis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, pelvic inflammatory disease with infection of the Fallopian tubes or uterus, and even appendicitis. Pelvic infection is a serious complication of these conditions and is often associated with fever, lowering of blood pressure, and a life-threatening state.

Infection of the cartilage and/or bone of the spine

Infection of the discs (septic discitis) and bone (osteomyelitis) is extremely rare. These conditions lead to localized pain associated with fever. The bacteria found when these tissues are tested with laboratory cultures include Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB bacteria). TB infection in the spine is called Pott's disease. These are each very serious conditions requiring long courses of antibiotics. The sacroiliac joints rarely become infected with bacteria. Brucellosis is a bacterial infection that can involve the sacroiliac joints and is usually transmitted in goat's milk.

Aneurysm of the aorta

In the elderly, atherosclerosis can cause weakening of the wall of the large arterial blood vessel (aorta) in the abdomen. This weakening can lead to a bulging (aneurysm) of the aorta wall. While most aneurysms cause no symptoms, some cause a pulsating low back pain. Aneurysms of certain size, especially when enlarging over time, can require surgical repair with a grafting procedure to repair the abnormal portion of the artery.

Shingles

Shingles (herpes zoster) is an acute infection of the nerves that supply sensation to the skin, generally at one or several spinal levels and on one side of the body (right or left). Patients with shingles usually have had chickenpox earlier in life. The herpes virus that causes chickenpox is believed to exist in a dormant state within the spinal nerve roots long after the chickenpox resolves. In people with shingles, this virus reactivates to cause infection along the sensory nerve, leading to nerve pain and usually an outbreak of shingles (tiny blisters on the same side of the body and at the same nerve level). The back pain in patients with shingles of the lumbar area can precede the skin rash by days. Successive crops of tiny blisters can appear for several days and clear with crusty inflammation in one to two weeks. Patients occasionally are left with a more chronic nerve pain (postherpetic neuralgia). Treatment can involve symptomatic relief with lotions, such as calamine, or medications, such as acyclovir (Zovirax) for the infection and pregabalin (Lyrica) or lidocaine (Lidoderm) patches for the pain.

What is the function of the low back?

The low back, or lumbar area, serves a number of important functions for the human body. These functions include structural support, movement, and protection of certain body tissues.

When we stand, the lower back is functioning to support the weight of the upper body. When we bend, extend, or rotate at the waist, the lower back is involved in the movement. Therefore, injury to the structures important for weight bearing, such as the bony spine, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, often can be detected when the body is standing erect or used in various movements.

Protecting the soft tissues of the nervous system and spinal cord as well as nearby organs of the pelvis and abdomen is a critical function the lumbar spine and adjacent muscles of the low back.

What is the anatomy of the low back?

The first step to understanding low back pain is appreciating the normal design (anatomy) of the tissues of this area of the body. Important structures of the low back that can be related to symptoms in this region include the bony lumbar spine (vertebrae, singular = vertebra), discs between the vertebrae, ligaments around the spine and discs, spinal cord and nerves, muscles of the low back, internal organs of the pelvis and abdomen, and the skin covering the lumbar area.

The bony lumbar spine is designed so that vertebrae "stacked" together can provide a movable support structure while also protecting the spinal cord from injury. The spinal cord is composed of nervous tissue that extends down the spinal column from the brain. Each vertebra has a spinous process, a bony prominence behind the spinal cord, that shields the cord's nervous tissue from impact trauma. Vertebrae also have a strong bony "body" (vertebral body) in front of the spinal cord to provide a platform suitable for weight bearing of all tissues above the buttocks. The lumbar vertebrae stack immediately atop the sacrum bone that is situated in between the buttocks. On each side, the sacrum meets the iliac bone of the pelvis to form the sacroiliac joints of the buttocks.

The discs are pads that serve as "cushions" between the individual vertebral bodies. They help to minimize the impact of stress forces on the spinal column. Each disc is designed like a jelly donut with a central, softer component (nucleus pulposus) and a surrounding, firm outer ring (annulus fibrosus). The central portion of the disc is capable of rupturing (herniating as in a herniated disc) through the outer ring, causing irritation of adjacent nervous tissue and sciatica as described below. Ligaments are strong fibrous soft tissues that firmly attach bones to bones. Ligaments attach each of the vertebrae to each other and surround each of the discs.

The nerves that provide sensation and stimulate the muscles of the low back as well as the lower extremities (the thighs, legs, feet, and toes) all exit the lumbar spinal column through bony portals, each of which is called a "foramen."

Many muscle groups that are responsible for flexing, extending, and rotating the waist, as well as moving the lower extremities, attach to the lumbar spine through tendon insertions.

The aorta and blood vessels that transport blood to and from the lower extremities pass in front of the lumbar spine in the abdomen and pelvis. Surrounding these blood vessels are lymph nodes (lymph glands) and tissues of the involuntary nervous system that are important in maintaining bladder and bowel control.

The uterus and ovaries are important pelvic structures in front of the pelvic area of women. The prostate gland is a significant pelvic structure in men. The kidneys are on either side of the back of the lower abdomen, in front of the lumbar spine.

The skin over the lumbar area is supplied by nerves that come from nerve roots that exit from the lumbar spine.

Low Back Pain Treatment

Perhaps you bent the wrong way while lifting something heavy. Or you're dealing with a degenerative condition like arthritis. Whatever the cause, once you have low back pain, it can be hard to shake. About one in four Americans say they've had a recent bout of low back pain. And almost everyone can expect to experience back pain at some point in their lives.

Sometimes it's clearly serious: You were injured, or you feel numbness, weakness, or tingling in the legs. Call the doctor, of course. But for routine and mild low back pain, here are a few simple tips to try at home.

Chill it. Ice is best in the first 24 to 48 hours after an injury because it reduces inflammation, says E. Anne Reicherter, PhD, PT, DPT, associate professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. "Even though the warmth feels good because it helps cover up the pain and it does help relax the muscles, the heat actually inflames the inflammatory processes," she says. After 48 hours, you can switch to heat if you prefer. Whether you use heat or ice -- take it off after about 20 minutes to give your skin a rest. If pain persists, talk with a doctor.

Low back pain facts

This result correlates with different statistical reports that found back pain mutually of the leading causes of visits to the doctor and persons missing work.

Back pain is second solely to headache because the commonest neurological condition within the us. Actually, four out of 5 folks are said to own or have had experienced back pain.

Yet, in spite of this alarming statistics, not many of us are worried regarding their back pain. With sensible reason. the foremost common style of back pain is acute back pain, a short-term state of affairs that lasts anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Treatment usually consists of rest, exercise, analgesics, hot/cold compress, and different pain medications.

However, whereas most back pain lasts just for a awfully short time, there are rare cases where the pain might be chronic. Chronic back pain may be a cause for alarm since the condition is usually a signal of another underlying condition that's usually additional serious and desires additional urgent medical facilitate. One such kind is kidney back pain, that may be a sign of a disorder within the kidneys.

How does one apprehend if your back pain may be a symptom of kidney infection?

There are varied {ways|ways that|ways in that} by which you'll be able to distinguish kidney back pain from traditional back pain. however the foremost general methodology is to search out out where the pain is coming back from. Now, some sufferers of kidney back pain can realize this a trifle tough to realize since it sounds like the pain is coming back from everywhere the body with nobody supply of pain.

However, if you concentrate and check out to concentrate on where the pain comes from rather than how the pain is creating you're feeling, it mustn't take you long to spot the supply of the pain.

You will apprehend if it's kidney back pain as a result of the pain shoots from the realm of the rear where the kidneys lie. concentrate on the perimeters of your spine, significantly on the realm simply higher than the hips. If you notice that the pain is truly emanating from there, then chances are high that that kidney back pain is thanks to some style of kidney infection.

But there are types of kidney back pain that are caused by injury not infection.

Indeed, kidney back pain could also be a right away outcome of an injury or trauma to the kidneys, not primarily an infection of the organ. you may apprehend if your kidney back pain is injury-related if you're feeling tenderness within the space higher than your hips where the kidneys are situated.
This aftereffect correlates with added statistical letters that begin aback affliction as one of the arch causes of visits to the doctor and bodies missing work.

Back affliction is additional alone to cephalalgia as the best accepted acoustic action in the United States. Actually, four out of bristles bodies are said to accept or accept had accomplished aback pain.

Yet, in animosity of this alarming statistics, not abounding bodies are afraid about their aback pain. With acceptable reason. The best accepted blazon of aback affliction is astute aback pain, a concise bearings that lasts anywhere from a few canicule to a few weeks. Treatment about consists of rest, exercise, analgesics, hot/cold compress, and added affliction medications.

However, while best aback affliction lasts alone for a actual abbreviate time, there are attenuate cases breadth the affliction could be chronic. Abiding aback affliction is a account for anxiety aback the action is about a evidence of addition basal action that is about added austere and needs added burning medical help. One such blazon is branch aback pain, which is a assurance of a ataxia in the kidneys.

How do you apperceive if your aback affliction is a evidence of branch infection?

There are assorted means by which you can analyze branch aback affliction from accustomed aback pain. But the best accepted adjustment is to acquisition out breadth the affliction is advancing from. Now, some sufferers of branch aback affliction will acquisition this a little difficult to accomplish aback it feels like the affliction is advancing from all over the anatomy with no one antecedent of pain.

However, if you apply and try to focus on breadth the affliction comes from instead of how the affliction is authoritative you feel, it should not booty you continued to analyze the antecedent of the pain.

You will apperceive if it is branch aback affliction because the affliction shoots from the breadth of the aback breadth the kidneys lie. Focus on the abandon of your spine, decidedly on the breadth aloof aloft the hips. If you apprehend that the affliction is absolutely appearing from there, again affairs are that branch aback affliction is due to some blazon of branch infection.

But there are forms of branch aback affliction that are acquired by abrasion not infection.

Indeed, branch aback affliction may be a absolute aftereffect of an abrasion or agony to the kidneys, not about an infection of the organ. You will apperceive if your branch aback affliction is injury-related if you feel amore in the breadth aloft your achievement breadth the kidneys are situated.

When this breadth receives absolute abrasion or trauma, it could aftereffect in absolute abrasion to the organs themselves. That’s why, accepting hit in this specific breadth of the aback is sometimes alleged a “kidney punch.”

Are You Worried About The Side Effects Of Back Pain?

Aside from the usual side effects of back pain, like the disturbance of your sleeping habits and the difficulty in sitting still during extended periods of time, the real concern should be addressed to the cause for back pain.
Fever and chills: back pain with fever especially if accompanied by chills (indication of severe body heat loss) is often a symptom of a viral infection. The back pain is usually where the affected gland is. One such example is Hepatitis, where a blunt pain is experienced in the lower back and accompanied by fever and chills. Appendicitis also shows these symptoms.

Severe trauma: fractured or cracked spinal is a deadly cause for back pain. If you have reached the stage where you feel that back pain medication is essential to treat your pain, then do not delay. Just rush to your doctor for help before things deteriorate beyond repair.

Back ache has the capability to disrupt your daily activities. If you are immobile, then it is difficult to lead a normal life. No matter how much you dislike taking medicines, you will have to take them if you do not want your pain to reach its peak and take mobility away from your body. But that does not mean in any way that you indulge in self medication. Always consult a specialist if you want to get proper treatment.

There are various kinds of back pain medication like anti-inflammatory ones, opioids, muscle relaxants and acetaminophen. The official name for Tylenol and Anacin-3 is Acetaminophen. It has got various analgesic properties that make it very valuable as medication. Anti-inflammatory medicines accelerate the healing process and help reduce pain and swelling. Naproxen, ibuprofen and aspirin are anti-inflammatory medicines. These are effectual as back pain medication as they can relieve inflamed spinal nerves.

Opioids must be used only if the back ache is really unbearable. These have been derived from morphine and that's why they are extremely addictive. Before taking them, a doctor's advice is necessary. Muscle relaxants usually protect an injured area. All muscle relaxants target the back muscles in spasm and relieve them of their tension. This helps reduce back pain. This also helps the muscles to work properly. Back pain medicines can also come in the form of creams. If you do not like to take any oral medicines, then you can use the cream formula that is applied directly to the paining area. The cream is absorbed into the skin directly. No matter whichever form of medication you use, it is suggested that you discuss it with your doctor first.

On one hand, there are chances that taking innumerable pain killers might turn you into an addict. On the other hand, not treating the pain may cause you to suffer for life. So there is a thin line that you need to balance on. You can avoid opioids and opt for non addictive drugs like Tylenol. Some of these back pain medication are sold over the counter. Others need prescription.

While this is a common place to experience back discomfort, many people can experience upper back pain as well.

There are a number of reasons why you might have pain in the upper area of your back including:

Poor posture

Injury

Sitting most of the day

Obesity

Poor Diet

And while upper back pain can be a very uncomfortable condition, there are a number of options in treatment that can put you back on the road to being pain-free once again. Many of the causes of upper back pain include a lack of strength and conditioning or repetitive motions.

So if you are experiencing pain you should consult a physician and a personal trainer for the proper exercises to strengthen your back. Also cut down on your sugar intake as sugar only increases any pain or discomfort that you may be experiencing.

There are also injuries that can occur to the upper back from performing a sport or getting in a car accident. No matter what the reason is for your upper back pain, there are a number of options in treatment plans available.

Some can be effectively done at home and others will require the help of your doctor. Most people find that home remedies are usually the first course of action, and if these don't bring relief for your pain, your doctor can offer additional therapy options to you.

Home Remedies

To treat upper back pain at home, the first course of action is often to apply ice to the affected area. This can be done every three or four hours, and should be repeated for the first day or two after the injury occurs.

After the first couple of days, you can switch to a heating pad a number of times each day to bring relief from the pain. Another good home remedy for upper back pain is to use an over the counter pain reliever, preferably one with anti-inflammatory properties like ibuprofen or naproxen. You can also try a topical cream that contains capsaicin, but the jury is still out on whether these types of remedies are truly effective.

What Your Doctor Can Do

If home remedies don't bring the relief from your upper back pain that you are hoping for, your doctor has additional treatment options available. These can include prescription pain medicine that can work when over the counter options don't.

It might also mean a combination of medication and physical therapy that will strengthen the area and prevent future problems. Other types of treatment that might be recommended for upper back pain include chiropractic treatments, acupuncture or deep tissue massage. These treatments may require a referral to a different type of specialist that can offer assistance in these areas.

Upper back pain can be a difficult problem to live with, but the good news is that you don't have to live with it for long. By using effective home remedies or talking to your doctor about additional treatment options, you can say goodbye to your upper back pain for good.

Pilates exercises along with a good nutritional plan will allow those over 50 to look and feel many years younger. You can combine the low impact exercises of Pilates along with weight bearing exercise and with resistance training. This is absolutely crucial for maintaining and building bone density to make sure that osteoporosis does not set in after menopause.

The benefits of Pilates for those people over the age of 50 include the following:

• A strong back and flexible joints to take years off you
• Toned and lengthened shoulders, abdominals, arms, legs and buttocks so that your clothes are able to hang beautifully no matter what size you are
• Improved grace and suppleness; improved bone density that will give you long term health benefits

Aging

Pilates, even taking it up after you are 50 years of age, can add healthy, active years to your life.

High Blood Pressure

If you do Pilates on a regular basis, it helps to keep the arteries elastic. This keeps the blood flowing and lowers blood pressure.

Overweight

Pilates will help you maintain weight loss
.

Effects on Joints and Bones

Pilates will help reduce stiffness and pain. I will also help build muscles endurance, strength, and well-being. You can feel confident that the Pilates stretching exercises will help increase flexibility without putting stress on the joints.

Back Problems

One of the most common complaints of today is lower back pain. Poor posture is a major contributor to this. If you work on strengthening the abdominal muscles, then this will help alleviate stress on your lower back.

Emotional and Psychological Benefits

Pilates will help improve your reaction time. Exercise is able to help with depression and will increase your feelings of well being.

Lack of Sleep

Pilates helps reduce the level of anxiety and stress that you have and helps with sleeplessness.

Rehabilitation after injury

Once you have had an acute injury, a Pilates program of maintenance will be able to bring your muscles back to an optimal working order.

Precision

All of the movements in Pilates are exact, and they involve precise breathing and actions.

Movement

The moves are controlled, slow, and continuous and require concentration and greater skill if you are going to do them properly.

Isolation

Pilates is all about working on isolating muscles. By using the isolation method, we identify our muscles particularly the weaker and neglected ones. Pilates helps build awareness of any imbalance in flexibility or muscle strength.

Routine

Pilates does not replace any current exercise program you may be working on. Rather, it is supposed to complement and enhance your current program by improving the way in which your muscles work together. When practicing the Pilates principles you will improve flexibility and strength, skill and speed and will reduce fatty deposits. As your muscles become leaner, your body shape will begin to change.

If you are over 50, Pilates can help you if you have any one of the following:

• Back problems
• Have RSI
• Digestive problems
• Feel stressed or tired
• Want toned thighs/ buttocks
• Want good posture
• Suffer from neck and shoulder tension
• Have headaches
• Are overweight
• Are recovering from an injury

1) The nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves) control ALL other systems of the body.

2) Mechanic misalignments and distortions to the spine (known as Subluxations) can interfere with the body's ability to govern and heal itself.

3) The body has the capacity to heal itself, given adequate rest, nutrition, and a fully functional nervous system (providing that no irreparable tissue damage has occurred).

4) Chiropractic is the art, science and philosophy or restoring normal nerve and mechanical function to the body, promoting a normalisation of physiological and healing processes.

WHY IS THE SPINE IMPORTANT?

The spine is the framework which supports and protects the spinal cord – the most intimate and delicate control mechanism of the body. Most nerves pass from the spinal cord to the various muscles, glands, organs and bones.

The spine is made up of 24 moveable bones, 23 discs (which act as shock absorbers and allow movement to occur). Thirty-one pairs of nerves exit the spine.

Because of the spine's complexity and abundance of ligaments and joints, its normal movements are easily disrupted. Falls, incorrect posture, mental stress, repetitive movements, sporting activities and even illness itself may cause disruption to the normal mechanics of the spine potentially causing back pain, including lower back pain and neck pain. These areas of abnormal movement are what chiropractors call subluxations.

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Subluxations have several possible components: disrupted joint movement, nerve irritation, muscle spasm or weakness either at the site of the subluxations or along the course of the irritated nerve. Because nerves send energy to organs, a subluxation can very easily affect health and wellbeing, as has been demonstrated in hundreds of research projects over the last century. Due to the lifestyle we now lead, Subluxations are very common and do not always produce pain or other obvious symptoms (much like heart disease and tooth decay has a silent phase of pathology). However, subluxations can lead to such problems as lower back pain, upper back pain and neck pain. Spinal degeneration can occur when chronic subluxations are left uncorrected.

CHIROPRACTIC BACK PAIN TREATMENT

Chiropractors analyse the spine for subluxations and, if found, do a special procedure called an adjustment . This back pain treatment is a gentle and safe procedure, which in many cases takes just a few moments. The vast majority of people find this back pain treatment a comfortable experience, feeling a sense of release at the same time. Some techniques utilise the joint's ability to cavitate (pop), although there are many other techniques which are equally as effective at normalising nerve function.

WELLNESS CARE

Once better nerve function has been restored to the spine and the body has had the opportunity to heal properly, it is important that it be maintained. The physical, mental and chemical stresses that we expose our body to these days, easily overwhelm the nervous system and lead to a downward pattern of health which can lead to recurring back pain, including lower back pain, upper back pain or neck pain. Wellness care or regular checkups will allow your spine to function optimally following chiropractic back pain treatment, offering your body the best chance of feeling and functioning well.

Here are 6 yoga poses for low back pain relief. Each pose should be held from five to ten seconds, depending upon your level of comfort, and should be done on a mat or other soft, supportive surface.

Low back pain relief pose #1: the corpse

Lie flat on your back in a relaxed position, armsresting at your sides, palms down, and legs lying naturally, with knees turned out slightly. If it hurts your back to have your knees turned outward, do this pose with knees bent, feet flat on the floor. Breathe in and out for a few seconds while allowing any tension to leave the body.

Low back pain relief pose #2: cat stretch

Start out on your hands and knees with a flat back. Your hands should be directly under your shoulders with fingers spread. Knees should be directly under the hips.Head is held loosely so that you are looking at the floor between your hands. Inhale, and as you exhale, arch your back toward the ceiling, tuck your chin in to your chest so that you are looking at your navel, and tuck your tailbone underneath. Hold, then release back into your original position.

Low back pain relief pose #3: wind-releasing pose

Lie flat on your back as in Corpse pose. As you inhale, bend your knee, place your hands right below the knee, and draw your leg towards your chest. Your left leg should remain flat on the floor. Exhale and bring your forehead up to touch your knee. Inhale, and then as you exhale, return to your original position. Repeat with the other leg.

Low back pain relief pose #4: palm tree

Stand with feet facing forward, arms at your sides, weight distributed evenly on both feet. Raise both arms over your head, interlock your fingers, and turn your hands so that your palms are facing upward. Next, place your palms on your head and turn your head so that you are looking slightly upward. Stretch your arms upwards, and at the same time, come up onto your toes if you can do so without pain. Stretch your entire body upward and hold, if you can. Some people have difficulty balancing during this pose, so just do the stretching parts if you need to.

Low back pain relief pose #5: fish Pose

Lie on your back with knees bent and arms at your side. Arch your back as far as you comfortably can and raise it off the ground by pushing the floor with your elbows. If you can, tilt your head backwards and rest the crown of your head on the floor. Breathe deeply from the diaphragm and hold pose for one minute if you can.

Low back pain relief pose #6: locust

Lie face down with arms at the side, palms down, and elbows slightly bent with fingers pointing towards the feet.Raise your legs and thighs as high off the ground as possible without causing your back any pain.Hold for one second and repeat up to twelve times. This can be a vigorous exercise so you must take care to strain already injured muscles.
