Walk the talk

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.---James 5:16

When I was in basic training in the Army, my Drill Sergent used to tell us the quickest way to get right was to "walk your talk". In other words have integrity! This applies double for our lives as Christians. How often do we have the attitude as leaders, teachers, or parents in the Lord of "Do as I say" while we whisper to ourselves "Not as I do". When we get away from the prying eyes of our Christian peers we revert back to our hypocritical ways ! We need to beware as Christians because our lack of integrity will always come to light. Because there is one person always watching--God! How often as Christians do we " play " the role ? We say the right 'Christian ' words or do the right 'Christian' things. My Sunday School teacher used to call it "playing church"! We do these things to look good in front of our peers, but inside we struggle with some hidden obstacle or sin. We need to openly confess our spiritual shortcomings .Then pray for one another, and ask for God's healing power never to make the same mistakes again!! Just like ole Drill Sergeant Allen used to say "Get right! Walk the talk!!"

Talking God

And thou shalt teach diligently unto thy children ,and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.---Dueteronomy 6:6-7

You know our preacher said Sunday people talk about what they love. This time of year you always here people talking! Whether it be around the water cooler at work, on the phone, or over our generation's "old backyard fence" the Internet. People are talking. Talking politics, talking sports, or talking "Grey's Anatomy". During your daily grind you hear people talking about what they love! We as Christians have a professed love for God and God's teachings but how often do we talk about those things outside of a "Sunday/Wednesday" church atmosphere? We should talk God everyday. Our daily routine gives millions of opportunities to speak of the Lord and all His greatness . His majesty is in every sunrise and sunset. His blessings can be seen in every activity of life! All we have to do is give these Godly things the same if not more attention we give the other "loves" of our life! Lets use our daily lives to be a witness for our love of God and His Word. It's the least we can do for someone who gave His only son to die as a sacrifice for OUR sins. Because that Son lives today we have a chance to live a blessed life, full of things we love. We need to show the world our love for God and God's word! Get out there and start TALKING GOD!!

Call Your Mother!

This Mother's Day weekend call your mother!! Let her know how much you love her ! Tell Mom how much you appreciate all she has done for you and your family. If you know a mama that has a soldier serving our country. Maybe someone whose kids can't be with her this weekend. Stop by and let her know you appreciate her sacrifice. See if there is anything you can do for her! Most of all pray for all our Moms military and non. Thank the Lord for them . Ask Him to bless and keep them. Because if it wasn't for a certain mother long ago the world would have never received God's greatest gift of eternal salvation! Thank God For Mamas!!

For the right reasons

How many times in our lives have we wanted to accomplish something only to fall short of our expectations. Whether it be on the job, or with our family , or a personal goal, for some reason we just didn't make it. I know in my life there have been times I wanted to succeed for all the wrong reasons. There has been too much "I" in my aspirations and not enough "Him". I was looking so hard at why I wanted something that I lost sight of what Jesus wanted for me. We need to face life everyday with the attitude to bring honor and glory to the Lord in everything we do! When we try so hard to succeed in life and we do it in the name of the Lord it makes our life a living witness! The Lord will fruitfully bless a life lived for him. When we fail remember the real reason we try and God will be there to help us up, dust us off ,and give us the strength we need to try again. He won't give up on us if we don't give up on Him!! In the end the success and blessings will be greater than we could ever imagine. Because we will have succeeded for Him, in Him, and by Him. Rejoice! A life lived in the Lord can never be a failure!!

This post is a simple one. Let us offer continual prayers for our troops and their families throughout the world. Let us pray that God keep and comfort them as they risk all in the ultimate sacrifice to keep our families safe and FREE here at home. While securing that same freedom for others! Lord thank you for allowing us the freedom to live in the greatest country in the world and be with us that we never take these blessings or those who protect them for granted! Amen.

The Blame Game.....

Let no one say when he is tempted" I am tempted by God."---James 1:13

Do you know someone who won't take responsibility for anything. When ever something happens the first phrase out of their mouth is "I didn't do it". As Christians we are a lot like that . Its easy for us to play the "victim" card. Blaming the old world for getting us down, or saying those famous words" The devil made me do it!". It 's bad enough to blame others for our sins, but it even worse to blame God. "Why me Lord" often translates into "Why do this to me Lord". The circumstances we find ourselves in are brought on by us and our reactions to temptations and sins. We should pray everyday for God to lead us from temptation and then act on the "prompting " God gives us when the temptation arises. Most of all when we do fail we need to take the blame. Admit it to God ,ask for forgiviness, and finally pray for strength not to make the same error again. Also, when we see our fellow Christians fail. Do not judge but pray for them in the hopes that they would do the same when we stumble. Offer support not rebuke for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Most of all don't blame God . We have no excuse when we are wrong, and only God's endearing mercy makes us right!

I'm sure you remember the funny old saying that goes : Behind every great man there is an even greater woman telling him what he is doing wrong! I know, very funny right! Well there might be more truth in that anecdote than we realise . Husbands think how miserable your life would be without that wonderful lady by your side. I'd hate to think where I would be if the Lord hadn't seen fit to bless me with my wife. I truly believe I am here today because of her. A Godly wife and mother is the foundation of the family. She is the anchor in the storm of life that holds the family safe and fast in trying times. Regardless of whatever the husband does his job will never be more difficult than hers. My wife has the most difficult job in the world! Not only does she have the chore of putting up with me, but also the added bonus of having to raise ,rear ,and teach 2 rambunctious children that are mini versions of their father! I thank the Lord everyday for the mother of my children (Just as my Dad does for my mama). I pray that He will always keep her and watch over her. We should never take for granted the Moms in our life. For they are truly more precious than rubies and nothing compares to them!

When I was a kid one of my mother's favorite expressions was "hold your horses". I was like all children I knew what I wanted and I wanted it NOW! Its funny as we mature into adulthood we seem to take that trait with us. Although it has changed a bit . Now it seems I know what I need and I need it now. As Christians we often do the same thing . You know the prayer---"Lord grant me patience and give it to me now. " Often we encounter problems or situations. We feel we know whats right and what we need to fix it. Then we pray for that need. Not God's providence ,but what we feel needs to happen. Then we don't get that need and the situation ends different that we thought it should. We sit around wondering why God didn't heed our prayers. Actually He did and He said" hold your horses, be patient, I know best" and He does!God sees the end of the race when we can't even see around the corner. We need to turn whatever issue it is completely over to Him and let Him handle it . Be patient! Wait on the Lord ! Not only will He do whats best , but He'll give you the strength you need to make it to the finish line!

Ever know someone who couldn't keep a secret. Maybe you 've had a bit of good news you couldn't wait to share with someone! Anyone! I know I have! After my kids were born. When my wife and I were married. News so good I just had to tell the world! Well as Christians we have the best news for this old tired world. The most important earth shattering news, and we 've had it since the first day of our salvation. Its simple JESUS SAVES! We should be spreading that good news like no other. To everyone we meet!! We take for granted now again that people see Jesus in daily events just like we do, but if they are non-believers they don't. As a matter of fact you might be they only Jesus some ever see. Don't waste the opportunities that God gives us daily to carry out The Great Commission. Spread the Good News!! Like the song says " Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is Lord!"!!!

You ever watch the Weather Channel? How they always have this great footage of raging storms and howling winds. Never seems to be that much footage of calm ,sunny days though! Life can be like that! Storms of turmoil beating us about. Make its hard see the calm sunny side or even remember it for that matter. That's when we need only to call on the Master of life's sea. The one who rebuked the wind and let Him say in our life, Peace, be still. Remember night or day , rain or shine ,Jesus is there to lean on! Rejoice in the Lord and call on Him!!

When it comes to "The Climate Crisis " its important to remember GOD created the earth , man didn't have a hand it in it . The earth was made before man and man can't destroy anything God has made unless the Creator wants him to! Consider this.......

This is the Bikini Atoll where many mushroom clouds danced in the opening weeks of the atomic age. The US did a whole lot of early nuclear tests here turning it into a "ocean wasteland"! Well just look at it now. The planet seems to do just fine on it's own ,huh? Again ,more proof that man won't destroy God's green earth if He doesn't want us to!!

The other night I was watching the History Channel. They were showing a biblical documentary on the books of the Bible. The contributors were discussing those "books" which were supposedly excluded from the Bible we know today. Later that evening History showed another "biblical" documentary. This one debating whether or not the Holy sites of the Gospels are they same ones that the Holy Land pilgrims visit today. As I watch these shows the Lord whispered a thought in my ear . They are missing the point. In all their arguments for or against the minor points of the biblical experience they had lost the forest for the trees. The most important point of these and all documentaries about the Bible , Holy relics ,or Holy landmarks is the reason they are there. JESUS! When we get caught up in the discussions over the many mysteries of the Bible we forget the non -mysterious TRUTH. That God gave his only Son to die, be buried, and rise again so WE can have everlasting life. Most important we forget what we are suppose to do with that TRUTH . Tell others about it! Witness to them! Lead them to the Lord! So the next time you get in a biblical discussion bring up a topic everyone can agree on ----John 3:16!!

Starting the day right...

When I was a kid I noticed no matter what was going on my Dad always woke up in the morning in a good mood. When I was about 15 , after a long night of studying for high school mid-terms, I ask Daddy how he could be so happy every morning, EVERY morning! Daddy (who was and still is a deacon at our home church) smiled and simply said "I start everyday on my knees, in prayer for a good day. Not necessarily a good day for me ,but a good day in the Lord!" I thought about that for a while and in my 15 year old mind said " Hey the old man may be on to something". So I tried it and you know what ? To my teenage surprise - he was!! Well I'm 35 now with kids of my own and no matter what happens during the day I never worry. I know the Lord has it in hand. I know this because I started the day right ----on my knees!!
