Tent Camping Tip For Forth Of July, Best Insect Repellent

Happy Forth Of July Campers ! The 4th kicks off camping season for most. Those who prefer summer weather anyhow. Here in New England ( Base Camp Cape Cod ) we have had wet weather all along the East Coast. Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine have seen some severe weather with flooding. Even if the ground appears to be dry on the flat lands up in the mountains the ground is saturated. This mean mosquito season is still going strong. The Black Fies have dissipated somewhat, but mosquito's are probably here for the summer.

Lime disease and West Nile Virus has spread across the USA over the last 10 years so protecting yourself is very, very important. West Nile and Lime diseases is nasty. Once you have Lime Diseases its forever if not treat right away. Even then there's no guarantees.

This brings us to protection. Since the building of the Panama Canal to the US Military in Vietnam ways to protect our selves has varied. From Lemon Oil , Lemon Balm (herb ) to Eucalyptus, and these day's DEET.

Over the years I have tried everything and use 10 %deet when going into the deep woods of Northern New England. 10% is strong, but Deet is probably the most effective. Deet is a heavy duty poison though, which brings us to Natural Tick and Mosquito Protection. Bug Spray has evolved recently and there are several on the market. I have gathered together a decent group of popular bug repellents on the market.

Bite Blocker Ingredients Are: Castor Oil, Geranium Oil, Soybean Oil, Cedar oil, Lemongrass Oil, Purified Water, Coconut Oil, Citric Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate and Benzoic Acid. For use on Human Skin, fabrics. Bite Blocker is hard to come by though. Buy it when you find it.
Cutter also makes a variety of insect repellents and are well known for Natural Insect Repellents.
Also look for Cedar Side and Green Ban all natural insect repellents. We have heard good things about these two, but have yet to find them. Burts Bees Lemongrass Mosquito Repellent has a great reputation too

By far the best Tent Camping Tip I can give anyone is Tyvek. This versatile protective material is durable, water proof, wind proof and extremely strong and lite weight. Tyvek can be used as a ground cloth, Shelter or emergency sleeping bag or rain poncho. This material only comes in 100 foot rolls from Home Depot and home improvement centers, BUT you can find it on eBay for under $2.00 for a 1 foot by 10 foot cut to your desired length.
