Ok, so, the good news is that Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D doesn’t appear to be a remake/re-imagining/crap-o-la of any of the TCM flicks. Instead it appears to be a direct sequel to the original. This from the fiends over at Horror-Movies.ca:

Speaking briefly with Shock, Tania Raymonde divulged into some aspects of the new film and the character that she plays (Nikki).

“This movie takes off where the original started and stands on its own as a thriller and origin story. There’s something epic and scary about it as it delves into this disturbed mind that is not right.”

“There are a lot of unorthodox things about this movie that are original and new. I don’t think people are going to be disappointed.”

Tania also mentions that her character who is the best friend of “Heather” played by Alexandra Daddario has a lot of balls and basically kicks ass in the film and isn’t the usual slutty best friend.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is being helmed by John Luessenhop and also stars Paul Rae, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Ritchie Montgomery, Bill Moseley, Scott Eastwood, Tobe Hooper, Gunnar Hansen and Sue Rock.

The film follows Heather, who along with her friends, travel to Texas in order to collect an inheritance. The spin? What would you do if you found out your cousin was Leatherface, and he was now YOURS?

Tobe hooper is going to be… acting? Interesting. Can’t wait to check it out!

Below is a clip from the upcoming Howling remake, re-imagining, whatever Howling Reborn. If this clip is indicative of the entire movie, oh MAN does it look like it’s going to blow. It looks like it’s going to be a mix of Twilight and MTV’s Teen Wolf. Crap-o-la. Still, I’ll give it a watch because it’s a werewolf flick, and put up a review when I get my bloody hands on it. Here’s a synopsis:

Photos of the new/reworked cenobites for the upcoming Hellraiser: Revelations have surfaced over on Gary J Tunnicliffe’s official fan site. Early word on the film, directed by Victor Garcia and written by Tunnicliffe, is not at all good, but the makeup work is. Check out the photos below and look for an upcoming review. X-Files creator Chris Carter is heading back to the small screen.

After several years away from Hollywood despite heavy demand, Carter has reemerged with a female-lead mystery police thriller titled Unique. The project, which is set up at Media Rights Capital, has a supernatural element to it. He is set to write and executive produce.

I’m a big fan of every series Carter has created so far, so you can bet there will be more as this story develops.

Below is the first five minutes for the upcoming FX original series American Horror Story. From the minds of Ryan Murphy (of ‘Nip/Tuck’ fame) and his ‘Glee’ co-creator Brad Falchuk, ‘American Horror Story’ has been labeled as “psychosexual thriller” genre thanks to the many murders, inexplicable phenomena and haunted happenings in the Harmon family’s new L.A. home. Hmmmm, Nip/Tuck and Glee, eh? Not the greatest pedigree for horror, but we’ll see. Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Taissa Farmiga, Jessica Lange and Frances Conroy star.

The Barrens, will star True Blood’s Stephen Moyer, and has an expected release date of sometime in 2012. Plot synopsis:
Despite their reluctance, Richard Marlow takes his wife Cynthia, their young son Danny, and his teenage daughter Sadie to the Pine Barrens for a long weekend of camping and family bonding. As they arrive at the Wharton State Forest, a mutilated deer runs out into the road, nearly colliding with the Marlows’ car. Later that evening, another bloodied animal falls from a tree. Bad turns to worse when, in the middle of the night, a college boy camping nearby disappears into the woods. Nevertheless, Richard presses the family to hike further into the forest, to the spot where he used to camp with his father. He is feverish and a past wound on his arm appears badly infected, but when it begins to rain, there is no turning back. Richard’s sickness soon becomes debilitating, his headaches turn to hallucinations. What’s worse, he believes there is something stalking them…something with yellow eyes, pointed horns, and the wings of a bat – THE JERSEY DEVIL. The disfigured bodies of the missing camper and another college boy soon turn up. The Marlows must fight for their lives as the horrifying answer reveals itself in a shocking and tragic conclusion.

That’s right boils ‘n ghouls. Adam Green will not be returning to direct the next installment of the Hatchet series. Instead, he’s passing the reigns to the former cinematographer for the first two Hatchet flicks, BJ McDonnell. All I know of the plot for the upcoming Hatchet 3 is that it continues from where Hatchet 2 left off. I assume Green is still writing the script in crayon somewhere.

If you’ve been reading this site for a while, you may know my feelings about the Hatchet series. After a promising trailer that had me drooling for the flick for ages, I jumped on the hype machine and nearly drove to TEXAS just to see it in a theater. Luckily, I didn’t, as my drunken review from 3 years ago will tell you, Green dropped the ball. The thing is, he’s not a bad director. FROZEN is a very well done movie and shows that he can bring the talent when he wants to. But then there was Hatchet 2, and I’m sorry, but that movie was the largest steaming pile I’ve seen in a long time. The gore was over the top, and that’s fine, but the writing and the acting…GeeeeeeZUS it was awful. Some viewers are in it for just that sort of ride, however. They don’t care about the things that used to make horror movies great. They just want to see titties ‘n blood. Not that there’s anything wrong with two of the three B’s (Blood, Boobs, & Beasts), the Hatchet series has ‘em in spades, but while all good horror films should have at least two of the three, Hatchet 1 & 2 having all three, that shouldn’t be ALL the film consists of.

While fresh directorial blood is being brought to the table for Hatchet 3, if the writing remains the same I’ll have issues with it, no matter how good it looks. That’s the thing with the first 2 Hatchet movies. Green could be blamed for the entire fiasco because he directed and wrote the films. He was wholly responsible and wholly accountable. It seems that when most people think of films being terrible, they only blame the director. Granted, the director is captain of the ship, and it’s his job to see that everything works together to make a great film, but people forget the other players. The admiralty (to continue the analogy) of producers/production houses control the film because they have the money. No matter what a director wants to do, if the production part of the film decides they want to cut something, put something in, or just shelve the whole project altogether, they can. And producer intervention has fucked up a lot of movies. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a story where it was a good thing. Then there’s the writer(s). You could look at the writer in our nautical analogy as the one who dreamed up the ship and charted the course to begin with. The writer is just as important as the director and a lot of people do not realize this. Bad writing means the end of a film before it’s even started because no matter how good the film looks, if the story and dialogue are garbage, it’s going to stand waaaaaay out. I could go into the actors being part of the crew, but who gives a shit about actors? They’re either good or bad and it’s up to the director to accurately decide which. So you see, Adam Green had a lot of control over his Hatchet movies, so when I say they were abysmal, and say it’s his fault, that’s why. None the less, given that he’s proven himself somewhat with Frozen, I’d like to see where he goes with any film NOT in the Hatchet series, and I’m interested to see where BJ McDonnell takes the franchise. Given the sub-genre, and the nods to Friday the 13th, could Hatchet 3 be 3D? That’s all the speculation you get!

Eduardo Sanchez – the co-director of The Blair Witch Project – is jumping into Bigfoot lore with a planned film trilogy.

The director will helm Exists, a project he penned with his Seventh Moon scribe Jamie Nash.

WETA and Spectral Motion are teaming up to create Bigfoot (whoa!) and shooting is expected to begin this fall just outside of Austin, Texas. Sanchez says Exists will be the first film in a trilogy that explores and re-invents the Bigfoot myth and, as he says, make Bigfoot “scary again.”

Creature performer Brian Steele ( Predators, Hellboy) will play the legendary monster.
