Yesterday, a press release was issued from Exclusive Media and Worldview Entertainment announcing that they would be partnering with Eli Roth for his next directorial feature (the first in some time) titled THE GREEN INFERNO. As of now, not much is known about the project other than Roth co-wrote the script for the film with Guillermo Amoedo from an idea he had while traveling in Chile. I think we can speculate a bit on what the project is going to be about, however, given that Roth is a fan of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST and has something of a history with violent cinema. If you boils ‘n ghouls will remember, the film within a film in Holocaust was The Green Inferno as well. I suppose it’s always possible that this title may be intended to throw us off the scent of what he’s actually up to, but if it’s legit, it may be very safe to assume Roth’s next feature is going to be all about bloody cannibal mayhem. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

HOW HAVE I MISSED OUT ON THIS?! After viewing the trailer (available on the official site and in a crappy version below), I was blown away by the potential badassery present in DEAR GOD NO!. Here it is, finally, a return to grindhouse form with so many of my favorite elements thrown in. Outlaw bikers, violence, bloodshed, tits, destruction, and even a nod to those squatchsploitation flicks I love so much such as LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK, and 1980′s NIGHT OF THE DEMON! It’s got all three B’s with Blood, Beasts, and Babes! I’m telling you, this looks like a winner boils ‘n ghouls. Shot on super 16mm with equipment from the 70′s to give it that look I’ve been craving since Jim VanBebber’s THE MANSON FAMILY, I can’t wait to check it out!

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures and Lionsgate have released a trailer for THE POSSESSION, directed by Ole Bornedal, and due for release on August 31st, 2012. Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis, the film (formerly THE DIBBUK BOX) is inspired by a 2004 Los Angeles Times story about a Jewish demon, or dibbuk, jinx box that went up for auction on eBay.

Synopsis from Dread Central:

One family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

I just happened upon the trailer for Jakob Bilinski’s indy horror film THREE TEARS ON BLOODSTAINED FLESH, produced by CinePhreak Pictures, over on BloodyDisgusting, and it really caught my eye. The title alone invokes the classic Italian giallo films of Argento and Fulci, while the trailer (put together, it would seem, for the Cannes film market) appears to showcase a fresh new independent director’s vision as he blends various subgenres to interesting effect.

While much about this film is shrouded in mystery to me, the film stars Bill Gobin, Jim Dougherty, Kayla Crance, Angela Steele, Rosalind Rubin, Grant Niezgodski, Sidney Shripka, Kevin Roach, Alex Hahn, Joe Atkinson, Eric T. Schroeder, Mark Nash, Jim O’Rear, Sonny Burnette, Rusty James, Julie Pyle, and Scott Ganyo.

In the film, A man with a sordid past returns to the town he’s long since abandoned, to bury his niece. Convinced her death wasn’t accidental, he begins probing about the town… Only to discover its dark secrets.

In honor of the Cannes premiere, the remake of William Lustig’s serial killer opus MANIAC, directed by Franck Khalfoun (P2), now has a (incomplete) teaser trailer. As much as I generally despise remakes (excepting of course Carpenter’s THE THING, and Cronenberg’s THE FLY), I’d have to admit that this teaser intrigues me. I had my doubts concerning Elijah Wood’s (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, FLIPPER) turn as the titular psycho killer, but having seen his work again in SIN CITY recently, my fears had begun to wane a bit. And now, with this new trailer, I have a feeling we may see a very interesting performance from a man perhaps best known for playing Frodo Baggins. I’m also very intrigued by the decision to portray the entire film essentially via the POV of a serial killing madman. Lustig’s MANIAC was intended to view the world from the killer’s perspective originally, attempting to give the audience a glimpse into madness, and Khalfoun seems to have taken the idea and run with it. Alexandre Aja and Grégory Levasseur (HAUTE TENSION, THE HILLS HAVE EYES REMAKE) wrote the screenplay and are producing the film, returning once again to remake territory. While I’d like to see the dynamically French duo once again work on original work, as their remakes have been hit and miss, they do possess the talent to potentially make this film stand out amongst the remake crowd.

Synopsis:

Wood plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop selling antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past, when he was abused by his mother. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.

I’ve already seen quite a bit of rumbling on the ‘net about this television spot for Ridley Scott’s upcoming PROMETHEUS, so if you’re offended by spoilers (even teeny, tiny spoilers), DO NOT WATCH THIS TEASER! I, however, have no qualms about spoilers so long as they don’t give away too terribly much about the film. In this case, we get just a slight glimpse of some of the creatures we can expect to see in the ALIEN prequel, along with half a second of body horror reminiscent of the chest-burster scene in ALIEN.

Opening on June 8 in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters, the anticipated film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.

Here it is, the official Red Band trailer for the Sundance Film Festival sensation EXCISION, from director Richard Bates Jr. and starring AnnaLynne McCord, Traci Lords, Ariel Winter, Roger Bart, Jeremy Sumpter, Malcolm McDowell, Matthew Gray Gubler, Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin, Ray Wise, and John Waters (who plays a PRIEST!).

For those of you interested in seeing something other than the face of Jesus on your toast, Warner Bros. and Dynamic Forces are collaborating to create a series of toasters that will brand images from WB properties onto your toasty white or wheat. Friday the 13th, Gremlins, Little Shop of Horrors, The Goonies, and A Nightmare on Elm Street are just some of the property designs that will be available. Why? Who knows, but it’s weird and it’s horror, so I’m passing this oddity on to you.
