Jeremy Lin is Asian

Charlie O'Donnell said it ... when he wrote a post on thisisgoingtobebig.com titled Jeremy Lin is Asian about "pattern matching"!

That post left me uneasy, there is an underlying arrogance in it that justifies what is often LEADS to desicions of "ISMS"

At first I simply skimmed it and decided to ignore it, but I have read and reread that post of his, something is WRONG!No One commented on teh post ... that I read of ... even while we are in the weeks that bridges Black History Month with Women;'s History Month.. two groups under-represented in NY Tech community ... is it because of pattern matching ... from all involved!

I must commend Charlie on his taking on the issue...

For those who do not know Charlie O'Donnell is a leader in New York’s Tech community...more Brooklyn hustle than Manhattan suave... he reminds me of one of my uncles or guys on teh corner...except he's white! He'd fit into any BROOKLYN neighborhood, so I was not surprised he recently moved his efforts to Brooklyn with Brooklyn Bridge Ventures! However that puts him , square on my radar! I will be at the “Making Brooklyn roundtable he is holding next Wednesday!”

Trust me, I understand the spirit of the post…

When my son was 11- 12,we saw a young “DRUNK” , caucasian male … full red head of hair and a red neck! My son loudly proclaimed…

“There goes an IRISH Man“ …

at a sidewalk café on The NY’s Upper East Side! I was embarrassed. I had not raised a racist! My son steadfastly assured me he was not being mean he was just observing a pattern…

Red hair, Red neck, drunk = Irish.

In his experience!

Then the young man spoke up... with a full Irish dialect! (Alas that is the problem with Patterns… There is always some fool who justifies and keep them relevant … )

“SEE” my son said. “I TOLD YOU.”

The difference is that my son at 11 was not making decisions that would affect that man’s future. He was not a gatekeeper to access…

Charlie O’Donnell and many adults who are “pattern watchers” are!

"Pattern matching" as described here is what I call an "ISM"

PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

that Truck in teh anaolgy is a fact ... It's Not a pattern...yet! When it is we'll adjust! As someone who has been on the other side of that “pattern matching” it’s an “ISM” … and there are laws against it!

But It is not only In “opportunity” that this is worrysome… in personal relationship- Pattern assessment can be detrimental!

I was at a local Brooklyn Lounge when a Young Black male walked in … attractive in a suit but … obviously restless…

“What’s his story” someone asked…

“Probably drugs ...” a few young black females chimed. He fit their pattern…

I do not believe in patterns … I believe in cause, symptoms and affect… observe symptoms.. find the cause (or as I call them holes), affect change… A few days later I had an opportunity to speak to that young man… we ended up having an hour and a half conversation… he was conflicted between leaving his wife for his own happiness or being a “parent, dad’ for his children’s happiness.

He was also not job searching (hence the suits); A college grad his identity as a Black may was tied to his financial success and a steady job! The He simply needed to breathe…

“Pattern Matching “… funny in a 12 year old is is DANGEROUS in the hands of ADULTS! I am A Black female 46 single mother…

In tech circles I am not the “pattern” yet my 30 years experience in fashion, my seven years research ‘ and my ability to get sales and numbers… cannot be questioned… I understand the rudiments of technology but do not code…

I have a choice stand in front of Gatekeepers with Patterns as guides or be a maverick and seek solution… I chose the latter…

you see, the problem occurs when those who rely on “Pattern matching” are placed as gatekeepers to access!

I still have an email in my possession “disinvites' me from a tech event, and further clearly states, that I was NOT meant to be invited … to an “Open” event... was this Pattern Matching … I questioned it but chose not to pursue it…

which is the other side of Pattern matching... I Have never considered putting a company in front of a New York Tech venture process! Many Black will Not attend NyTech events... They are also Pattern Matching... Ny, Tech Rich white males, with trust fund and racist... it goes both ways...and it is WRON at both ends!

I chose to look for a solution to funding elsewhere! I do not Trust the system.. but i also would rather spend my time developing solution... and that may be why there are Not more Lins in basketball!

Therein lies my CORE problem with NYTECH at 21000 and growng few outside Silicon Alley and Silicon Beach (seriously) know they exist! BTW Charlie and others there is more to Brooklyn than 20 Jay Street! you will not get lost if you cross teh Atlantic!

I also understand those like Jeremy Lin who believe in their vision and choose to work at their dream outside the eyes of gatekeepers! We always surprise because we believe in PROCESS! we Believe that eventually hard work pays off!

I have been literally one of the few Blacks in the room and often only Black FEMALE at early (and even today) tech events!yet black attending NY tech events and wifi cafes head straigth for the Asians in the room.even at the my local Library.. .LOL!

Here’s my concern;-

Sponsors and stakeholders approach leaders for introduction, and to source potential companies to align themselves with... leaders should have an "Open" and fair, process for selection! Government and other organizations...such as the NBA , often have "rules and regulations" governing the dissemination of such information and opportunity!

Often times in new arenas these are unsupervised... so that "patterns" and other assumptions affect decisions! Secondly I strongly believe the wrong patterns are being used as a measure of potentia in tech!

I’ve tried many of the apps and while I understand their "Raison D’etre", in the field, where they count, they “DO NOT WORK!

It’s why I opted to investigate the arena BEFORE seeking Investment… It’s why my potential Investor is pleased at the “meat” he sees in the planning and proposals! I do not observe patterns … I look for “holes in the system” and find a way to plug them.. that is culturally sensitive!

Yet...

If the NBA did not have measures to ensure open access Jeremy Lin would not be making the waves he currently is… Which is my challenge to Charlie O’Donnell and others in The NYTECH community … how do we ensure that those with exceptional talent and potential get an opportunity!

I once wrote a post I’m Black… Get over It… in response to challenges I face… in Fashion and those who even when understanding my Value cannot get past their "Pattern matching"

So CHARLIE

Jeremy Lin is Asian … get over it!

Are we Dressmakers or Designers! Why I take offense when the Black “press” call the African American or Black Designers-“Dressmakers”!

Why I take offense when the Black “press” call the African American or Black Designers who do custom or bespoke design “Dressmakers”!

To be clear a dressmaker copies a style from a book or uses a pattern… a designer creates a concept from inspiration and ideas! Bespoke refers to clothing done specifically to fit a particular person and Couture to a special type of hand executed garment! A label is simply a business structure and has little to do with one’s ability to design! Now some designers have labels and some labels are wise enough to high great designers!

When an ethnic designer does Bespoke it's unprofessional!- When a mainstream designer does Bespoke it INNOVATIVE!

But when the Black press call black bespoke designers "dressmakers' I take offense! (see Essence last September) bt like many I kept quiet... we always do… it’s our culture

Then recently in this thread on Brooklyn Fashion Week the reference again... This time I’m taking on Mac Smith and others!

Beside it's Black History Month one of two times I can get Black desigenrs to Discuss issues (the other is Kwanzaa)

Tomorrow address the charges of incompetence laid forth!

There are many emerging Fashion Tech models around "One Offs" or bespoke so why the disparity! For one Black designers are NOT cohesive and there is no organised effort on their part to shape public perception of their sector!

as I said to Mac ... he does NOt ndertand his constituent!

here are two recent examples that gained attention!

The Badasse and BS of Taking Responsibility For One's Actions

I am taking local businesses Global and bring Global businesses local. BADASSE- you have to meet teh needs of teh consumer you serve The BS - you hav eto be authentic to your "Brand", your belief and take responsibility!

The vision is mine and has been since Russian designer Alexander Seriminoff contacted me in 2005! His message was simple we have the same challenges you do, 'Help Us'!

Currently apart from designers across the US I work one on one with designers in the Caribbean, African and France! they sell and are in demand for shows! I've been reviewing the seven year Fashion tech exploration i did! I have huge challenges- I looked at articles on emerging fashion tech trends... that is not the sector I serve! Do not get me wrong I love the traction... but they do not address the issues withing the sector I specialize in!

The concept of Brooklyn Fashion Week and Brooklyn Fashion Film Festival work but designers did not have stock fro mass market! I know that You can take product straight top a buyer and save the cost! I know you can sell clothing directly from "shoppable media"! The Fashion workshops I run are excellent ... So how do you scale for profit with a sector that is so Independent when the selling point is their independence!

These are Not the designers discussed in Fashion Tech circles... They are Master Independent designers (as opposed to the emerging indie sector) They abhor poor quality and are careful where they hang... you won't find them on Etsy! They are artist and artiste, gifted, skilled, stubborn and proud... they have great "story" and "brand" potential!

I love them and I love the work they do... and so do MANY!

but they will NOT give up control of their designs the crowd... so crowd sourcing design is out!! They are NOT selling at 70% OFF (they never have left over stock!) so flash sales and discount sites are out! They have no need to they practice Fair Trade! They respect their customers privacy... so social commerce is a challenge! They specialize in fit so current 3D fitting apps and distance sales are out!

Like i said I have a huge challenge!

I think in images!

Whenever I'm stuck I open a graphic program and start pulling a collage together! Eventually a clear picture emerges of what I want or need to do! The above image is the latest evolution ... so what do I have ...and how to I bring this sector into the Fashion tech evolution!

I need to design technology that suits their need... I've known that for a while... but i really did NOT want to! But seven years and every damn app still falls short! Seriously why do you need 300 apps to function!

I do a lot; I've done a Iot since 2003, i want simplicity and functionality!

It's easy to use "We' but in the end it's personal accountability that gets things done! Execution is Key many claim they do and in the end NOTHING is done...

Last December I FINALLY got a chance to work on some of my personal projects and I continued into the New Year; revising repositioning; in deep meditation and prayer! In the end success or failure the buck stops here... I am Not opposed to using we.. but if you want "WE", it's time to step up!

"But the biggest challenge we face isn’t inequality. It’s ignorance..." Forbes or rather Gene Marks,in an essay by "a short, balding and mediocre certified public accountant"

It would be hypocritical of me to call Mr Marks out on this seeing I often publicly and privately lament on Arrogance, Ignorance, Illiteracy or false pride; in my community, but there is so much in this essay and the subsequent discussion & debate that I'd like to address!

BUT first, can we get such writers out to "tech" or events in these urban poor areas discussing this! Let alone have the priveledge of covering such events;- In fact many events in NY and their sponsors are as I quote one tech company "interested in The fortune 500"!

So tech events now go for the glamor and glitz in fact many will be surprised at the number of tech startup in NY Right in POOR Brooklyn neighborhoods or rather naighboring formerly poor nabes... gentrification can be a ..

In fact one of my favorite is 3 doors from one of teh larget welfare center... in downtown Brooklyn!

I am an expert on this topic...the above image one at Photohackday NY at GA! The other an event at kumble theater Brooklyn both tech but note the STARK differnce!

My life my work my resources ALL of it has been spent addressing technology in Brooklyn NY and now access across the world! I also happen to be able to put a face to some of the founders of Nytech Companies! I have been calling for the NYTech community to reach out and move across the entire NY area still waiting for a response ... actually I got one

SO what can I say on this topic... I'll have to put my response on hold;- Today is the first Meetup for Newme and just maybe the frst time in 7 years I'll be in a room with more that 50 BLACK PEOPLE addressing Technology in NY ...especially one I have NOT put together.. THERE is NO way in HELL way I'm missing that!

Firstly I work in the poor Black communities of Brooklyn NY. I have for at least ten years...UNFUNDED! I availed myself to helping individeuals and organizations addressing issues within thecommunity! I am at present in the process of setting up a virtual incubator to support the creation of jobs and economic opportunities online! I read the article , browsed the comments ( i am still reading them) and I am sharing so others can read and browse and then let's dicuss! I actually started Pulling together a Kwanzaa week event set for Dec 26th to January 1st ( sign Up here)

within ethnic cultures admitting you have a problem is taboo! Speaking of that problem is seen as poor taste and lobbying to addess the problem ... you poor pathetic soul... you must be crazy!

Secondly I am or rather was the parent of a poor black kid.... He's now a poor young Black man contemplating the only solution that seems available to him... The Army! The Virgo that he is college debt will not be in his future! He is a gifted artistand despite a lack of art programs he is nowstarting to support himself with his photography!

My experience is first hand it is tested...

Strangely it was my son that got me involved in this specific community work... seeing Kids in a shelter he said "Mommy you have to do something ...kids should NOT li ve like this! It was a sacrifice that would directly impact his life... even after discussing it, he chose to do something!"

My son was given the opportunity to test for these "special" schools, he purposely failed.. he did not want to move away from home! By 13 he could set up a blog and lay out a business plan...so I had an opportunity to observe first hand...

When he entered high school I visited his purposely computer teacher and Immediately found myself paying more attention to events in the NY tech community... I was that alarmed!

He has no excuse... or did he,

he had the resources... he got the apps teh sites as tehy were releaseed! we literally lived a Half block from the library! Granted they had only 4 computers to serve one of the most densely populated school areas and the one electrical outlet was given to the "SNAPPLE" machine... rather than made available for rejuicing laptops and handheld devices! Oh Yes, those kids had hand helsd and could surf the web... but you guessed it "games" were the order of the day !

But how do you fight environment and as other parents at barcamps admitted tech is NOT cool when you mom or dad knows the latest stuff! My son avoided anything but teh T shirts from tect events!

So yes I speak with authority from both sides of this discussion... but i'll refrain from comment till I can fully read and digest and react ... which with all i have to do may be Next year!

The WebCam & Fit- a Crucial Step in solving the e-commerce challenge as local designers go global!

My exploration is focused on technology that takes local independent creative Global and Brings the best Global talent local is presently at a crucial stage! In 2012 we open it beyond teh core Group of designers... with a a Business of Independent design eductional program, a product development component an offline marketing strategy and online Video enable commerce platformwe are seeing results evn in teh early development stage!! We're creating a cluster where they can be discovered.

Sure we need to CONVINCE independents to collaborate and advocate as a community, Tough but still that's the EASY part! b Getting the Tech developers to respect the INPUT of the createive user is even TOUGHER!

I have bet for the last seven yea s that designers and others can use the video and in particular teh webcam and technology to create their own "Economic Stimulus- Louis Narcisee of Pharaonicorp is mastering the use of social Media to generate online sales doubling earnings each quater! So yes it's working!

I am seeing amazing and postive results!

We finally have designers engaging with the webcam and we have them exploring storytelling at www.Bkfff.com and soon will be connecting products within their presentations to sales outlets... we have a lot of support from the tech community... after the fact! Note to self get the tech and creative community together to solve the problems!

Next week it's testing live one on one and group presentations technologies that are using the webcam!

One designer from St Lucia is way ahead of the pack, designing her studio to maximize impact of technology! We've solved a lot I explored, from a simple online sketch solution, accessible via a screen that can be shared!

So yes it's possible. Yet like their larger commercial counterparts they have one challenge... That of FIT

well two if we count access..most of these companies are focused onhetting business from huge corporations! It's why my constituets love Google... They can Use teh technology! the data they contribute is a small payoff!

Designers in our sector specialize in FIT! They have a Lot to offer! It's a matter of pride! They cannot afford chargeback or returns; so fit has to be on point! Which means they need to make "bespoke' or "Off-rack" clothing that FITS! Truth be told, the Webcam may solve this particular commerce problems for the offline retailers also!

Check any Closet...

Clothing lines that Fit is a huge issue... it's the proverbial "Hole" that's sinking the garment industry! Its enough of an issue to faciliattae a thriving repair sector among local dressmakers and cleaners and a huge financial burden to many!

Three things had me focusing on this issue today

PhotcaHackday NY is around the corner:-

The designers I work with are on their way to integrating the webcam into their sales and operational strategy!

This article on Upcload brought to my attention by a member of FashionCamp and fellow fashion tech advocate ViK

A look at Upcload seems a simple easy solution and according to the article very accurate... so finally a solution... or is it! I can understand it's use in the custom clothing sector... the genuine bespoke tailoring sector; most online "custom clothiers' simply customize the nearest commercial "blocks"! Overtime I can see these numbers shaping those very blocks!

Building patterns or block from scratch using these numbers would be great! I have doubts that this is the solution.

I've been concerned with FIT since the Early 1990's on the Upper East side revealed the dire need to address this particulayly in the female clothing sector! I started looking and discovered this "3D Scanning and modeling technology designed to bring the power ofphotogrammetry, "while reviewing Augmented Reality first in 2007 and looked at it again in 2009!

So the Businessweek "Webcam Measurements for Buying Clothes Online", struck a cord.. First up I'd challenge Industry insiders who claim in the article that

“Fit isn’t a matter of what objectively fits you but what you like and are comfortable in ”

They may have spent a tad bit too much time in the "research Room"! Fit is much more that "taste:- What you like and comfort:- what you are comfortable in" Measurement is a Huge part of FIT and current measurements being used to create Patterns and as such clothing are NOT Accurate for today's populace...

So that CUT what ultimately decides how a garment sits on the body is affected and so too comfort! I'll pith my custom/bespoke designers against large retailers coughing up 3d fit and patterns based on inaccurate numbers anyday!

Now as for "how an item looks on someone" —

Few retail sales clerk can do that in person, expecting 3D Technology such as FIT.ME to do so is teh "Emperor has no clothes" that No one in the fashion industry wants to say! It's something consumers are discovering...

In Boutiques we leave the mirror outside the dressing room... The reason, almost EVERY customer needs to be taught how to wear the garments so that it "looks great" on them ... and not every person can do so!

Will a machine be able to someday... Maybe, but there is no technology yet that can do THAT!

However there are stylist and trained clothing specialist ... designers and sewers with real experience and skill in fitting . Some specialize in body types and the true masters can fit across the board and the globe!

The Premise to our online research in using tele-presence and video technology revolves around developing solution with the input of those "experts" in the challenge one is trying to solve!

The average tech developer does not... they seek to "disrupt" and as one retailer stated,

"they come promising to solve my problem... and never asked me what teh issue was in teh first place!"

The design community s will welcome distance measuring tools as much as the consumer, however they need accurate measurements and thus far 3D technology at approximately $3000 Photomodeler is outside their reach, then again the technology needs to be simple with user interfaces that "normals" can navigate...

Plug and play ... it's not there yet!

will I be able to find a correct fit from my Upcload reading .. not if the Garment are constructed with incorrect measurement

To date NOT ONE technology they can passes that test!

The first reason;- developers seldom interact with the communities they actually serve... the second the point at which that technology is introduced into the ecosystem...

Any true custom clothier does not like or trust fact that,

"people have to measure themselves.”

Photogrammetry, especially if the system is virtual should eradicate "Human" tendency to go for "vanity" numbers!

Secondly searching databases will only work if the clothing was created from the numeric data that you are using for search ... in other words we need to measure way more than "500 cluster in Germany" for this to work! Across ethnicities even Geographies and culture body ratios vary!

There is a need to measur populations... BEFORE 3D search becomes effective!

Which brings me to PhotohackdayNY. At last Photohackday I obseerved a developer working with the webcam and the Kindle! It struck me then and has been on my mind since - but it was the use by our St. Lucian designer that brought it home! The ability to collect measurements using the webcam should be that simple and our global local dressmakers would provide a great opportunity to get this!

I was actually pulling that contact number when Ii was sent upcload link... so why not usue Upcload! I am discorveing that need open access or coorporation from developers to tweak their technology! having howevr had one too many of teh tech i was depending on sold to corporations who simply put it on a shelf... I CANNOt take that chance!

Beyond this though their seems to be opportunities for building 3d models based on the images taken... Then of course I'd have to wonder how Yahoo's patent relating to a METHOD FOR SEARCHING FOR AND MARKETING FASHION GARMENTS ONLINE will play!

as a person who NEEDS this issue solved as a designer, as a business and as a consumer

BUSINESS WEEKS's bottom line: "Retailers including The North Face plan to use UPcload’s webcam measurements to make shoppers comfortable buying online."

Is NOT enough! This placebo is costly ... I see first hand the closets, waste and cost to consumers!

For now though the quest should be to create a solution that allows for easy collection of that data from the general populations and secondly convincing companies to build their stock around that nore accurate data BEFORE consumers can start to search!

______________________________________________

I'm sure they have an audience but it's not me and the beauty of the internet is choice! So how do we get those who tell great stories on the things we care about to be part of this and profit! still time to join in Brooklynfashionfilmfestival@gmail.com http://info.dancehackit.com

"I have not seen a post from your page in my stream for over x months... 183 pages i liked, I have only seen 10 in the last two weeks! I simply Thought you were Not posting!

What does you Page insights say!

Yes I'm going to check each page this is BS!

I simply assumed Many were not posting! Page owners invest in their pages This is BS"

People have been complianing, they are not seeing post I decided to listen... ! And My Better FB Brought all to teh top 183 Likes

i will post this message on each page that showsd regular post and I have not seen!

If everyone else is afraid to say It I won't! This is the final straw! I set up an event on FB Page and went to update our fans! The Update feature for Events is gone... essentially an event on a fan page is worthless!

if you want info on Brooklyn Fashion week add me to a circle https://plus.google.com/109567201094489309011/posts?hl=en

I refuse to work for Facebook!

Contrary to what they said my contact came through MY efforts and the Streets of New York Marketing Campaigns! Not from searching FB! I keep getting complaints but it was noticing that I was not seeing post from business partners that keyed me in!

Mow Fb has made contacting "fans' More difficult... (I know you did not even notice) The challenge is that many have opted to make FB their Primary contact... then tehy call me complaining when they miss

They've removed the update feature... so our sponsorship from Streets of New York Marketing Agency is even more important! Especially this holiday season But designers need to opt in By October 18th for this benefit! Have you design business marketed and distributed throughout NYC at an Unbeatable price... sponsors and advertisers welcome! http://bkfffcall.eventbrite.co m/

A 4 and !2 day workshop in NYC
Not all business types a good fit for the program. Final participants' product lines must be something that works in the department store retail environment, such as fashion, jewelry, shoes, swimwear, or even high-end food products such as chocolate or coffee. “It's frustrating for would-be vendors to go through the application process and find their product line isn't a fit, “says Outler. “We strongly encourage potential applicants to review the eligibility requirements before completing an application.”

ICons Opportunities and Irony-Whatever you must do, do it quickly, do it well, and do it now.

In paying tribute to his Icon a student ironically proves There is always room for Improvement! I have long thought the the Apple Logo was "perfect"; That is till I came across this tribute by Jonathan Mak for his hero Steve Jobs... Somehow it seems to be the missing link that rounds off the Logo!

The Irony, Mak was simply expressing his emotional connection and respect; that with Jobs Gone A "piece of Apple was Missing"! Instead he may have crystallized the notion that the Apple has uncharted design options yet and created opportunities for himself in a competitive field he has not yet officially entered into!

Irony .. Wednesday was one of those rare days I went off-grid... No laptop, no internet, No Phone... The World could have ended and I would not have known! I learned that Steve Jobs had died The Old- Fashion Way... from one of the "Local Streets Character"

" ... You Know" he said" the man that invented the Ipad died... " I don't Think It would have had as much impact had I read it on one of the tech threads!

Icon-- few in tech are recognized beyond it's borders; It says a lot about the power and reach of Steve Jobs the man and of what he has accomplished!

I realized hat In some trite way I have become in my "neighborhoods" the "go to Tech" person! He had singled me out as someone who would be interested in the news... No one steps to me to mention sports scores; or the latest gossip or even Fashion Tidbits! If I'm approached it's about technology... even from complete strangers..Ok so maybe it the laptop I always carry...

It was only Today I opened the NYTech mailing list and saw this...

Yesterday, Steve Jobs was a visionary tech leader at the head of a company whose products are available worldwide.
Yesterday, Steve Jobs was on a first-name basis with presidents and kings and rock stars and movie stars.
Yesterday, Steve Jobs was worth approximately eight billion US dollars.
Today, Steve Jobs is dead.
What is the lesson?
Whatever you must do, do it quickly, do it well, and do it now.
Give what you can, while you can. As rich as he was, to the best of my (albeit limited) knowledge, he had no charitable foundation, no plan to disburse his immense wealth while he was still on the planet, or afterwards.
And most of all, the old saying remains true: You can't take it with you.

Rest in peace, Steven Paul Jobs. ... Eddie (NYtech Meetup Board)

Indeed "what is The Lesson" ...

I have a Simple Belief that everyone has a part and a purpose to contribute to where our planet heads.. I do not believe that any role is larger or smaller! It is one of those things that bothers me about our notion of heroes and icons! The "Valuation" on a life, that we inevitable all "even myself " sometimes make.

I took a look at the video and what resonated was the message of connecting the dots and surrendering to a life-map you often do not control! Doing so is tough and often the people who will laud your contribution in death will be you worst critic in life... they will not step forth to easy the burden or the journey! They will question, ridicule and make YOU second guess yourself! Steve Jobs Greatest triumph may be that he stayed on his path!

I have a note in one of my pages... "You may be the only person saying something and still be right!", Our Tribute to Mr. Jobs should be to listen closer to those who speak outside the line of "traditional" belief!

“It was impossible to connect the dots looking forward… You have to Trust In Something; Your Gut Destiny Life, Karma whatever, because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path and that will make all the difference!”… Steve Jobs1955-2011

Ultimately it boils down to those dots... we each have them moments in life that seem to prepare us and predestine us to roles we often never imagined and quite frankly would rather not take on! If I rever Mr Jobs it is for his willingness to trod his own path! To build and to let go , to take lessons and turn them into triumphs, to question and create solutions! He is an Icon Not because he created Apple but because he let go and Apologized when he made a mistake.. It is because he picked up and DID...because he was "Bothered" by the small details and dared he created Jobs tools and opportunities for others...

It is indeed an irony... may live purely to be hailed as Icons and miss Opportunities to be great! He lived for the Opportunity and died a Great Icon!

Another tech Leader is again in a Battle against cancer this time the call is out to

October is the month to make those personal changes... so get the calendar out and get serious! Take a Day Off... it's worth investing in yourself... and you need the businesses open!

I've launched a "LEAN START UP FASTTRACK" version of the 28 squared program for local businesses whose goal it is to end the Holiday season in The "BLACK" rather than "red"! So this article from Lifehacker arrived in my email just in time! Please click through to read and the success is in the DOING!

The first thing you'll want to do is make sure you take a day off from work or school where you won't be distracted by your daily activities. You don't actually have to play hooky, but if that's what it takes, do it. You're going to spend a lot of time on the phone, so you don't want to be distracted by an incoming call from a colleague at the office or a family member at home that wants your attention. For this to work, you'll need—at least for a good portion of the day—to sequester yourself in a quiet place where you can focus while you use the phone, read documents, and browse the web.

I make no bones about my campaign to Democratize the world fashion stage and supports efforts that will expose TALENT from around the world to opportunities! Hence www.brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com This NYCED NY offer will allows young graduates such as students from The Caribbean Academy of Fashion & Design at UTT in my native Trinidad unprecedented access to opportunities in NY fashion industry! However when smaller governments invest in the education (university education is free n TT) efforts like this often result in a brain drain! So yes I am a tad bit concerned about what this will mean for local industries and the investment of their governments! On the other hand, that experience & exposure can directly benefit smaller fashion sectors… So how are these companies going to give back to the larger world stage of fashion development!

excerpt;- New York, September 27, 2011—New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Parsons The New School for Design today launched Fashion Draft NYC, one of six initiatives recently announced by the City to support the long-term growth of the City’s $55 billion fashion industry. Fashion Draft NYC will bring a select group of top business-minded students from around the world to New York City to network and interview with fashion executives, with a chance to earn full-time, management-track positions within one of the participating New York-based companies. Participating companies include Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Gilt, and LF USA, with additional companies still expected to join in the coming weeks and months. Fashion Draft NYC will take place in New York City from February 16-18, 2012, and is the second of the City’s fashion initiatives, including Fashion Campus NYC, in which NYCEDC has also partnered with Parsons.

So the question is Just How Much technology do we need! At what Point do we decide "This Is The Best Choice" or simply "THIS WORKS!"

At the Least being first get you press- In Brooklyn local Independent designers (one of those many "niches" of fashion) have been exploring technology since 2005 we've been "shopping and consulting with customers on Skype ..sharing screens as a practical communication l! We're planning www.BrooklynFashionfilmfestival.com as an online Show, Sell and Shop Platform in November! (and Thru the Holiday) for us it's NOT about Trend...It's necessity ! We're are focused on adapting Apps and tech as Tools...and yes we're also a bit extreme! Yet for some Indie designers becoming proactive in What technology they adopt is scary! However I am not sure 3D is Integral to "relating" to the show, sales, shop or fit 'experience" ; that beyond the "Novelty " it has any real value so for smaller sites or businesses.. is it "worth the investment?

I can't wait to go fully silver ...ok grey! On Spetember 17th I turn 45.. Thank God for small blessings and his wonderful grace! I'm sure many are wondring if I've gone mad! I used Tazz and could not find grey hair! Click through to read about the image! I love a full head against great skin! Yes with age brings wisdom.. well at least a wonderful self acceptance that in itself is sexy! Today as I flipped through The O magazine I cam across a section on starting or was it following your dream! So here's my bversion of that list!

Btw I'd appreciate if you said Happy Birthday by signing Up at www.Brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com and sharing with friends if You'd like to participate sponsor or partner use this blog link http://www.bkfff.com/about/

My advice

Dream Big… If you can describe what you are doing in one sentence … it’s probably not INNOVATIVE!

Design to alleviate need or soother desire… Not for you or your friends… they may not need and as for their desire…

Go Public… no one can quite execute your vision as you would… they’ll try but It won’t be YOUR idea… they’ll even ask you to tell them how to… you’ll show them and they still won’t get it! So stop Fearing

Join The Club … or start one, if they won’t let you in

DIY .. Is neither easier or cheaper! Using an expert is sometimes the way to go! But if you decide to must DIY, make sure you have no other choice and know what you’re doing; ask others to join you …when they stop! Pick up the slack… Eventually ypu’ll plug the holes

Rely on The Kindness of strangers… many who know you will be too stuck on their own importance or have their own mission, before you know it those strangers will be friends!

Let It go… if It won’t physically harm or offend someone else- you can leave it be… if it bothers them let them take care of it! There are only 24 Hrs in a Day!

Be open to learning something new each day… it’s the ONLY thing you’re taking with you!

Cultivate wonder… go for broke and make someone’s day or moment!

Embrace your critics … those that have the balls to step forward… they at least deserve the respect for that!

Decide what you stand for… Not everything is grey there is a Lot of Black and white in this world!

You can be the only one in the room taking a stand and STILL be right, so stand for what you believe

Embrace da BSs! Stop worrying about aging… if you must "know" .. there’s an App for that!

Happy 45th To Me!

ABOUT tHE IMAGE

I think this is the first birthday In a while i'm xconsciously choosing to speak out about... simply because I always have to walk women through aging... and self acceptance.. we're afraid of it! The things women do to be "heard or noticed" frightens me! those are all image sof me

The image on the top left is me how I normally run around in winter low maintenance... oh there's lipstick... The one on the better left is how I feel calmer more serene...The Images below taken a couple years back before I started greying! I can Stil pull it off.. but i'll need a wig now! I am Npo longer dying my hair! My descision to go "Natural" with color.. I love "silver grey" and all the women I asked never dyed their grey! I really wish it would just go ahead and be all white , apparently that takes time! I want to be young eb=nough to enjoy my grey! LOL I love vibrant looking fully greyed women.. I think It's sexy... I've asked but there does not seem to be a bottle solution!

LoL I guess not many women want to be grey!

..

So I found Tazz .. Yes there an app that shows you how you would lokk... there are several but i like this! Even if your taste is not as weird as mine, I think you'll enjoy it! They also hav eteh cosmetics etc for sale! As for the the simulatuons first playing with Make up from foundation to lashes then the hair! No Grey ...what do we have against grey!

Seriously though 45 is SEXY!

On September 24, 2011 the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago will celebrate the 35th Anniversary of becoming a Republic and move a day closer to the August 31, 2012, 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Trinidad & Tobago.

Recently, as we reflected on these upcoming events in the life of the Republic, its people, and the people of its diaspora here in the U.S., Streets of New York Marketing 411 had the opportunity to engage in a series of discussions on community support and change. Out of those discussions has come a new found energy for us as a result of what we learned about the inclusive, apolitical efforts that are organizing and implementing cultural and social enterprise models, are preparing to help communities of the United States and Trinidad & Tobago to a long overdue move forward.

The mini-guide will be distributed across NYC and will commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as well as the formal launch of one of those organizations poised to connect with, assist, promote, inspire, and fulfill the aspirations of the community – Trinbago Diaspora Foundation, Inc.
