One night, three movies. I was bored.

Push is like a really nice episode of Heroes. It may be a tad confusing for ordinary fucking people, but for comic book people like me, I got the entire “We were born with special abilities and now we must survive in a world of ordinary fucking people” schtick even before the first scene was done. Yes, I appreciated it, but not entirely. Even comic book people can be confused by shaky plots. Maybe the presence of Camilla Belle made the whole thing go down a whole lot easier that it could have.

It all began in an archipelago in Southeast Asia where kingdoms and small communities thrived, untouched by the Western world. These independent kingdoms were magnificent, maintaining complex social and political orders and trade relationships with neighboring nations. This movie just reminded me why I have a love-hate relationship with anime. First, let me tell you the things that I like about Afro Samurai: Resurrection:

• a be-afroed samurai dude who cuts up people like they’re nothing
• a samurai dude wearing a teddy bear head
• a group of vengeful cyborg samurais
• a hot psychotic chick with huge knockers

And now for the things I don’t like:

• EVERYTHING ELSE

I mean, seriously. I love the crazy characters and the awesome battles, but I just can’t stand all the posturing and the looooooooooong repetitive monologues. Oy. It was annoying.

Dear Future Offspring,

First of all, that quote over there is from an episode of One Tree Hill a couple of weeks ago. The line was delivered by Peyton Sawyer, a character I’ve never found interesting until recently. She’s pregnant and there’s a big chance that she’ll die when she gives birth. That’s why she made a time capsule for her future child. You know, just in case she bites it. Look it up. It’s an awesome show.

I’m doing the same thing now, but not because I have a medical condition that may possibly kill me on your birthday. Also, I will not get pregnant. Pay attention to your biology and sex ed classes, OK? I’m doing this because I might be too drunk to explain stuff to you or I might be too busy making love to your hopefully hot mom to talk to you. More importantly, I’m doing this because I believe that what Peyton said is a universal truth. Music always helps, no matter what you’re going through. Music is your best friend. It will never judge you. It will never leave you. It will always be there for you. If nobody is there to listen, you can always listen to your best friend.

Last night, I finally saw two movies I’ve been meaning to see for months now. I don’t know why, but I just couldn’t fit them into my busy schedule which is usually full because of my need to watch One Tree Hill, Lost, Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, and 24. I digress.

First, I saw Oliver Stone’s George W. Bush biopic, “W.” It’s a fascinating movie that shows us glimpses of Dubya’s eventful life, from his frat boy days up to the invasion of Iraq. I thoroughly loved the cast and their magnificent performances, especially that of Josh Brolin. Man, there were moments that I thought I was watching a documentary. He knocked it out of the ballpark, this role. The movie kind of fell flat near the end, but it definitely made me appreciate, if not respect, the Bush family more. Also, props to Thandie Newton for an enjoyable Condeleezza Rice performance.

• It’s going to be weird for a while, not getting the chance to get stupidrunk every night and all, but hang in there. You’ll get used to it.
• Speaking of getting stupidrunk every night, don’t go to an interview with a hangover. And don’t stare at women’s breasts. Trust me on this.
• Don’t let go of all those wonderful college memories. You’ll need them when you’re cold and lonely and stressed out and wondering why people need jobs because it’s stupid and you should be on the beach getting stupidrunk.

But seriously, good luck with the job hunt. Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of corporate bullcrap! And oh, what the hell…

Whose side are you on?

I find it astonishing to see Plurk being overrun by Filipinos. A few months ago, the majority of Filipino plurkers consisted of bloggers, web developers and online marketers who made the great switch from Twitter to Plurk approximately a year ago. Now, Plurk is the new deal among the Filipino Internet literate crowd. Also, Facebook. But that’s a blog post for another time.

Plurk’s charm is slowly dying on me. I’m starting to update my Twitter more often now. Internet gods help me, I’ve entertained the idea of moving back to Twitter permanently and leaving Plurk altogether. Fortunately, I haven’t seriously thought of actually doing it since, you know, it’s not really a big deal. I’m totally considering adding several items to my Plurker’s Manifesto, though. But yeah, there’s the itch of just sticking to one microblogging service where I can tell you guys what I’m eating, where I’m going or what TV show I’m currently watching but secretly hating.
