Tory Burch doesn't reinvent the wheel here, but she's got all the classic elements needed to make a great summer tote. She's opted for canvas rather than her usual leather, which makes it very hardy and lightweight. Brown leather accents help dress up the striped fabric body.

I wish Tory Burch had used more of that leather on the handles, rather than the thick rope she's employed though. The natural fiber enhances the Channing's nautical vibe, but it feels harsh on bare hands. And as the handles are so short, holding them in our palms is really our only option. That's disappointing for a bag so large, as it could get weighty if we take advantage of all that space.

At least Tory Burch has equipped the Channing with a few functional features. All too often canvas totes are minimalist to the point of being unmanageable, but not this one. With a pair of slip pockets and a zippered pouch, we should be able to keep our items in order whether we're on the beach or pounding the pavement.

Practical features aren't enough to justify the Channing's ridiculous price though. Designers really have no business charging any more than $100 for canvas purses. At $250, it seems we're paying for Tory Burch's name rather than her tote.

David Gandy and Shalom Harlow do their best Don and Betty Draper in Banana Republic's Mad Men advertisements. The models show off the range's retro styled capri pants, tailored blazers, shrunken cardigans, feminine dresses, and chic handbags. The last line launched in August 2011, so it had a suitably wintery feel. This time around the apparel and accessories reflect the warmer weather ahead with a brighter color palette of hot pinks, creams, and contrasting navy blues.

Janie Bryant has done really well to make these apparel and accessory items so wearable. They pay tribute to the sixties but they don't look like fashion throwbacks. So many vintage inspired garments take things a step too far and don't appear relevant in the 21st century, but not these fashion goodies.

Banana Republic's latest Mad Men range hits its website and boutiques on March 1, ahead of the long awaited premiere of Mad Men season five on March 25.

This purse is very petite but it's made a big impression on style bibles like The Rachel Zoe Report and People Style Watch take note. They were wowed by its attention to detail, and its low cost.

Melie Bianco keeps the price down by using its favorite faux leatherette rather than genuine calf or lamb skin. The material is too thin to really fool us, but its pebbled grain makes it an excellent mimic from a distance.

A purse so small is easy to carry using the top handle, but Melie Bianco knows modern misses love a hands-free option. We'd never see it on an authentic vintage handbag, but we're happy for the convenience of the detachable cross-body strap.

With Mad Men set to make its television return next month, vintage styled bags like this are hotter than ever. At $70 carrying the Edith is a great way to stay on trend without spending a lot of money.

The St. Jean gets its flexibility from its classic color palette, refined design, and functional features. It's not really a head turner, but its warm beige lambskin body is lovely. I'm not so sure about the chestnut calfskin Joy Gryson's chosen to accentuate it, but the contrast isn't too jarring.

The St. Jean's generous dimensions never feel unworkable thanks to its unique triple compartment design. Each section is spacious enough to hold essential items, but not so big that they become lost. Extra pockets in the side walls are perfect for stashing keys, cell phones, and other items we need to find in a hurry. The pair of long buckled handles are perfect for grabbing as you're heading out the door, no matter what your destination.

As it's part of Joy Gryson's diffusion line the St. Jean satchel is priced affordably at $495. While that's not chump change, it's very reasonable for such a versatile leather accessory.

This purse isn't meant for real blooms, even though it does resemble a flower planter. This inspiration is fresh and fun, which makes it perfect for Dooney & Bourke's young fans. Happily though, the Flower Basket doesn't look as childish as many of the label's designs. It avoids looking juvenile by using matte colors and clean lines. The hues are youthful without being childish, and while they're all very different they somehow complement the Flower Basket's tan trim beautifully.

The Flower Basket is a relatively small bag, so Dooney & Bourke gets away with only including a cell phone pocket and a zippered one. I'd ordinarily say that isn't enough to keep us organized, but a petite purse like this is already pretty user friendly. Its adjustable strap makes it even easier to manage, as it takes this bucket from a shoulder bag to a cross-body.

At $335 this isn't Dooney & Bourke's cheapest purse, but it is one of the label's better designs.

It might seem unusual for someone like Nicole Richie, who wears high end couture and regularly rubs shoulders with the rich and famous, to create a diffusion range for QVC. However she said she was compelled to launch the line to reach a variety of fashion lovers.

It gets its quirky name from the casual stitching that decorates its voluminous synthetic body. The quilting has a more youthful feel to it than the regular diamond pattern so many labels employ, and the bag's more fun for it. Kathy Van Zeeland lets this finish be the star and keeps the hardware to a minimum. It's just a shame the stitching doesn't extend to the back of the bag. This kind of corner cutting makes the Stitchuation appear half-baked.

The Stitchuation is luxuriously large, which makes up for its less than decadent design. The lining is thin and the pockets aren't trimmed for strength as they are in more expensive purses. We're used to these compromises for the money, a relatively inexpensive $119, but it doesn't mean we're not craving a bit more!

It's been a while since I've seen such a timeless bag from Kathy Van Zeeland. The only thing that's not subtle about the Stitchuation is that apricot color. Normally I associate that name with a pastel peach hue, but this shade is verging on orange. If it's too bright for you, you can also find the Stitchuation in more sedate white, black, and sand tones.

This may be one of the smartest designer collaborations I've seen. The bag looks great, and it should put an end to the days of cell phone battery stress! Unfortunately you'll need one of those fancy new phones to use it. While it's useless around my very basic Nokia, it'll power up Blackberries, iPhones, Android phones, and even tablets.

The Richard Nicoll bag is charged from the main's power using a magnetic cable. Once its internal battery is full it'll charge cell phone handsets and tablets for approximately two days.

So we don't need to remember to charge our cell phones before we step out anymore, but we need to remember to charge our bag. I'll bet some scatterbrained girls still get caught short!

Pairing with the communications giant might seem a bit gimmicky, but Richard Nicoll says the handbag has a "relevant" place in his current collection "because it's all about the notion of work and all its facets in modern times."

A prototype of the innovative new handbag was presented at Nicoll's recent LFW presentation ahead of its predicted release late this spring.

If I didn't know it I'd never pick the Trip as a Jeffrey Campbell original. It seems so safe when compared to the designer's other accessories. The braided details on the rolled leather body and whipstitching along the sides give it a bit of Western flair, but these accents still don't make the Trip a standout. That might impress girls with classic tastes, but it's likely to leave Jeffrey Campbell's core fan base wanting more spice.

This purse is best appreciated when it's taken as a standalone piece, rather than one that's representative of Jeffrey Campbell's line. Its distressed wine colored leather has a lovely, worn-in feel to it, and its craftsmanship is first class. Modern girls might feel it's a bit dated, but thrift store junkies should see something special in the Trip.

Of course they might find something similar at a flea market for less than the $210.95 Jeffrey Campbell charges, but that's still not exorbitant for a bag of such quality.
