Disrupt Feat. Mikey Murka : Empress / Second Hand Man
Scotch Bonnet
Alongside Burial's 'Untrue', Disrupt's 'Foundation Bit' album (Werk) was one of the most sought-after and best-selling bass transmissions of 2007, creating a kind of aural blowback, a hazy dub headf*ck that brought together 1970's echo-chamber dub stylistics, Space Echo malfunctions, Casio riddims and a rugged low-end determination that mashed up the dance whenever anyone dared give it a public rinsin. This mighty 10" is the first new material from the Jahtari/Disrupt crew for 2008 and is just insane, blessed with the vocals of Mikey Murka, the Legendary Unity soundsystem veteran and one of the UK's finest Singjays. Both cuts are modern classic next level dub biziness with the perfect blend of quality reggae music and Disrupt's unmistakable blip-beep sound, rocking an upbeat offbeat swing with a sound that interweaves around Mikey's vocal with his plethora of sound. The lead synth on the 'Second Hand' dub is also testament to his playing ability and instantly conjures up the same images of cowboys and the Wild West felt in 80's Jamaica along with a heavy dub sound. Once again Japanese 8-bit melodies and narcotic dub are brought together in finest Jahtari style, and followers of everything from King Tubby through to Bass Clef, Shackleton through to Hyperdub and Lee Perry through to Andy Stott will want to get in on this while they last. Destined to be on heavy rotation not only on soundsytems but also by any purveyor of good quality music. Big tings a gwaan fi Disrupt 2008, there's no doubt about it, stay tuned!
12" - SCOB011 - £5.99
basket : wish list
