With entries already received from 31 US States and 13 countries, the drawing for class starting positions will be held Saturday for next month’s 44th running of the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race. This year’s internationally televised granddaddy of all desert races will be a loop race starting and finishing in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, with race week festivities scheduled for Nov. 17-20. Saturday’s drawing will be held at the SCORE headquarters in Los Angeles.
With the race itself starting on Friday, Nov. 18, official entry forms are available online along with all pertinent race information and prerunning rules on the SCORE website. With late entries accepted up until race morning, over 250 entries from over 30 US States and 15 countries are expected to take the green flag in the 692.82-mile course, competing in 35 Pro and seven Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs.
This year’s race will start for the 37th time and finish for the 21st time in Ensenada. Completing its 38th year as the world’s foremost desert racing sanctioning body, the event is the finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series. The race will start and finish on Boulevard Costero adjacent to the picturesque Bahia de Todos Santos in front of the iconic Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in the heart of Ensenada.
Prerunning on the 692.82-mile loop course will officially begin on Nov. 4.
A unique part of Saturday’s drawing will be the special drawing for the top 12 finishers from the nearest previous SCORE Baja race entered in the current race in both the feature SCORE Trophy Truck and the unlimited Class 1. For this race it will be the top 12 finishers in each class from this year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 500 held in early June.
Find the drawing results for 4wheel trucks and cars here as well the motorcycle and atv drawing results here.
The top 12 official finishers in SCORE Trophy Truck from the 2011 Tecate SCORE Baja 500 were: Bryce Menzies, Andy McMillin, Nick Vanderway, Gary Weyhrich, Tim Herbst, Rick D. Johnson, Jesse James, Jesse Ashcraft, Rob MacCachren, Robbie Pierce, Gus Vildosola Jr. and Kory Scheeler.
In the unlimited Class 1 for open-wheel desert race cars, the top 12 official finishers from the 2011 Tecate SCORE Baja 500 were: Steven Eugenio, Justin Davis, Damen Jefferies, Brett Lenk, Mike Childress, Randy Wilson, Daniel McMillin, Dan Myers, Richard Boyle, Armin Schwarz, Garrick Freitas and Dan Martin.
The 692.82-mile race course this year is a combination of much of the 2008 and the 2009 courses. The rugged course that travels from Ensenada east through Ojos Negros, down Laguna Salada to San Felipe, down through the three legendary Baja canyon washes of Matomi, Huatomote and Chanate, joining familiar routes to the six-mile turnoff before Mike’s Sky Rancho, heading over to the Pacific Coast crossing Highway 1 near San Vicente and to Erendira, then through Santo Tomas, Uruapan and back to Ojos Negros, covering much of the northern half of the majestic Baja California peninsula to and from Ensenada.
Winning two of the first four series races overall and in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division, Las Vegas rookie driver Bryce Menzies continues to stand at the top of the point leader board after four of five races in the 2011 SCORE Desert Series.
Menzies, who opened the season by winning the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge in January, drove to a penalty-free victory as well in June’s 43rd Tecate SCORE Baja 500 to pull further ahead in the SCORE Overall and SCORE Trophy Truck point standings in the No. 70 Menzies Motorsports Ford F-150. Sandwiched between his first two career SCORE race wins in the marquee racing division for high-tech, 850-horsepower, unlimited production trucks, Menzies finished sixth in SCORE Trophy Truck at the 25th MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in March. In September Menzies finished third at Tecate SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions and now has a six-point margin over the rest of the world’s best desert racers.
SCORE points are based on starting, finishing, placement and number of official starters within each class. Menzies, 23, who had only raced the 2010 SCORE Baja 500 where he finished seventh in his first start in SCORE Trophy Truck, has 306 championship points following Round 4 of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series. SCORE Trophy Truck has had the largest starting field for all four races with 32 in Laughlin, 24 in San Felipe, 28 in Ensenada and 13 in the most recent San Felipe race.
Picking up his ninth career SCORE Trophy Truck race win last month in San Felipe, Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren, an eight-time SCORE season point champion, is second in overall and in SCORE Trophy Truck points so far in 2011 after finishing fourth in Laughlin, winning the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe race in March and ninth in Ensenada with 300 points, just six behind Menzies.
With two wins and a second and a seventh this year, third in overall points and leading the unlimited class 1 is Justin Davis, 18 of Chino Hills, Calif., 11 points behind Menzies with 295 so far. Davis, last year’s SCORE LITES point champion, won Class 1 in Laughlin and San Felipe and was a close second in Ensenada and seventh in the September San Felipe race driving the Green Army Motorsports Chevy-powered ESM open-wheel desert race car.
Following consistent seventh, fifth, fourth and second-place finishes in the season’s first four events, Gary Weyhrich, Troutdale, Ore., is fourth in overall points and third in SCORE Trophy Truck with 281 in the No. 98 TSCO Motorsports Ford F-150.
This year’s race will commemorate the achievements of legendary desert racers like Rod Hall, Ron Bishop, Johnny Johnson, and Larry Roeseler. Hall, who will turn 74 on Nov. 22, has a record 21 class wins (including one overall win in 1972), and is the only racer who has competed in all 43 SCORE Baja 1000 races. Bishop is the only motorcycle racer who competed in the first 40 SCORE Baja 1000 races.
Hall will be racing this year for the second time in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division where he will split the driving with his sons Josh and Chad. As he attempts to add to his legacy, Hall will also be an additional driver in both the Stock Full and the Stock Mini classes.
Bishop is the only racer who competed every year of the first 40 on a Motorcycle, but is not scheduled to race this year at this time. Johnson, now retired, had 15 class wins, amazingly in eight different classes.
Roeseler has won 17 times in this race, including 13 overall wins (10 on a motorcycle). Roeseler will share driving duties this year in SCORE Trophy Truck with Tim Herbst in the No. 19 Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150. Roeseler won the unlimited Class 1 for four consecutive years (2004-2007), driving with the youngest of the three racing brothers, Troy Herbst, in the Smithbuilt-Ford open-wheel desert race car that was known as the ‘Land Shark’. Roeseler is the only racer in the history of the event to win the overall 4-wheel in a truck and also in a car as well as the overall 2-wheel title as well.

KTM Motorsports is proud to announce Bonanza Plumbing, Inc. as the title sponsor of the 2010 FMF/KTM Baja Team effort appropriately titled the Bonanza Plumbing/FMF/KTM Off-Road Racing Team which will field a five member team at the 43rd Annual running of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 November 17-20, 2010. The Baja 1000 event is dubbed the ‘Peninsula Run’ as riders race from Ensenada to La Paz tracking roughly 1,000 miles. This year’s Bonanza Plumbing/FMF/KTM Off-Road Racing Team members are FMF/KTM factory rider and the 2007 Hare & Hound National Champion David Pearson, multi-time Baja Champions Steve Hengeveld, Mike Childress and Shane Esposito along with the youngest member of this “dream team” Ivan Ramirez.
The caliper of riders that comprise this team is just one of the reasons Dean Potts, owner and President of Bonanza Plumbing, Inc. stands behind this team and decided to come on as title sponsor. “After meeting with many of the team members both one-on-one and in a group setting I have never been so pleased to sponsor a project. Collectively this group has the positive attitude and passion for winning the Baja 1000 that make you smile ear to ear as a fan and title team sponsor,” remarked Potts.
Potts became a KTM supporter and fan back in 2004 after taking his Honda on a long dual sport ride only to witness his friends and fellow riders having a more enjoyable time on their electric start dual sport KTM machines. “From that moment on, I knew my next bike would be orange and I haven’t gone back since,” Potts commented. Potts volunteered to help out with the 2007 KTM Factory Baja effort as a pit crew member. “It was a wonderful experience working with the KTM Team and led to my friendship with David Pearson who assisted me in putting the 2010 team together.”
The downward spiral of the economy over the past few seasons has led to many race teams, including KTM, to cut budgets and withdrawal from certain race series due to lack of monetary funding. Potts was eager to step in and help change the past. “Not only did I want to help give back to a brand I am a loyal supporter of, but I want Bonanza Plumbing to be remembered as the title sponsor of the winning team as they compete against the top teams at this year’s Baja event.”
In addition to the Bonanza Plumbing sponsorship, the KTM Baja team will be co-sponsored by THR Motorsports and Hoosier, Inc. THR Motorsports has a deep history of winning and has always kept that as the main focus of the team. During the past 2 years, the team has collectively stood on the podium over 50 times and is looking forward to the new 2010-11 team line-ups continuing that tradition. Hoosier, Inc. has been in business for 32 years and works with large medical, aerospace, defense and OEM companies.
FMF/KTM Off-Road Team Manager, Antti Kallonen, is excited about the newly formed partnership with Bonanza Plumbing and THR Motorsports. “As a Team Manager it is important to have a good relationship with your supporting sponsors and we couldn’t have found a better fit for the title sponsor of our Baja effort. Dean (Potts) is first and foremost a fan of the sport and a loyal KTM enthusiast. He has the passion and desire to help this team win. His confidence in the team and enthusiasm for the upcoming race is inspiring to all team members. We can’t wait to put the Bonanza Plumbing/FMF/KTM Team on the top of the podium!”

The Score International Primm 300 race is a very special race for driver Armin Schwarz; its where the obsession began for him. In 2006 he was invited to the race, as a spectator, by partners of AGM; Armin was immediately hooked. Since then, Armin and Martin have won 1st in class in 2008, 2009 and now 2010. The back to back to back wins are unheard of in this level of racing. Armin Schwarz started off in the #107 BMW powered JIMCO with navigator Bryan Lyttle. Armin Kramer and navigator Sam Osman would go off the line four minutes later in the #111 car. Both Navigators would stay in for the duration of the race, while both drivers would run the first two laps before handing the cars over to teammates Martin Christensen and Andy Aigner, respectively.
Its important to note that in a lap race such as this, the course tends to degrade and the bumps become more severe as the race goes on. Both AGM Jimco cars are equipped with Bilstein shocks and BFG tires, so they are setup to handle the punishment. “It takes more than just a big budget, the best equipment and the will to win. You need a solid team.” Bryan Lyttle said after the race at the team dinner “ I have to say a big thanks to all the crew, we put in more hours than I care to mention getting the race cars, chase trucks, trailers and logistics ready for this race. Everyone is a volunteer and I think it’s huge to see the amount of hours spent by each team member every week so we can compete at the level we do.”
The BMW Jimco performed awesome all race. By the 3rd lap, Armin & Martin had stretched their lead on the competition to 11 minutes. The pit relayed this information to Martin, who had gotten into the car a lap earlier. At that time, the decision was made to back off a bit and drive a safe final lap and bring the #107 BMW powered Jimco home for the win. Martin had this to say after the win “We are really fortunate to have the best components available on our cars; BFG tires, Eibach springs, Bilstein shocks, Pro Am hubs, Recaro seats, Schroth belts, Lucas Oils and SolTek lights, it’s almost like cheating when you are driving a car with all of these components. I would like to give a big thanks to all the local sponsors as well, Off Road Warehouse and Meziere Enterprise, they help keep our team going.
Car 111 also ran a great race with Armin Kramer and Andreas Aigner sharing the driving duties. They brought the car home 8th place in class and 19th overall. I was able to talk with Andreas after the race. He had this to say “This was my 3rd race in off road and I really enjoyed it. The car worked really well with the new Bilstein shocks. I am happy we were able to finish. I really love the experience in off road racing. It’s very different compared to the rally racing I am use to. I am looking forward to the next Baja race.” All in all it was great weekend for All German Motorsports.

Due to heightened security concerns by countries world-wide, in-bound shipments to the USA are increasingly taking longer to arrange. The equipment supplied by IRC required to post electronic tracking of the vehicles involved in the Parker 425 will not be available for this event as the equipment is currently held up in France on the return trip from the Dakar race. Because of Best in the Desert’s on-board scoring transponders, and the army of personnel on the course, race scoring will not be affected.
Steve Myers, President of IRC, was quoted, “Our equipment used in the Dakar event is currently stuck in customs and unfortunately will not be available for thisevent. If you already paid for the service, you will be refunded, or creditedfully for the next event.”
Casey Folks said, “The Parker 425 will go on as planned due to our experience and forward thinking. We always have a back-up plan to ensure the integrity of our events, and the safety of our racers. IRC has agreed to work with every racer at the next event with some type of compensation for the inconvenience.”
There are no announcements in that matter at TDCOM. TDCOM core activity is the design, development, integration and marketing of telecommunications solutions, voice communications, images and data and they should be the provider oft the service / equipment to IRC. Once should think that security delays for shipments for an event of this size being calculated in. Whatever…. just guessing here. At least no reason to @#$*& about the devices….

Blue Water Resort & Casino “PARKER 425”, February 4th thru 7th. Since 2003, the “PARKER 425” has been the opening round for Best In The Desert’s car and truck classes. This race has a great and storied history of large fields and as “The Legend Lives On”, the 2010 edition could very well turn out to be the biggest one of them all.
The festive event gets underway on Thursday, February 4th with the Time Trials for the combined field of open class buggies and Trick Trucks to see who will walk away with the “Team Ford Pole Award”. Best In The Desert is the only long distance desert racing organization that runs this kind of qualifying format for every race that pits the two fastest classes heads up to compete for the “overall” race victory.
New for this year, after the completion of the Time Trials, competitors will take their vehicles through a specially set up car wash as they get spiffed up for their parade down the streets of Parker to the center of town for a grand celebration kicking off the exciting weekend. With an open invitation to all of the citizens of Parker, along with racers and fans, this is sure to be a huge event. After the downtown festivities, the race vehicles will parade back to the Blue Water Casino for a party to announce the results of the Time Trials and the winner of the $1,000 “Team Ford Pole Award” presented by Steve Olliges, president of Team Ford Las Vegas.
Contingency gets underway Friday morning in the Blue Water Casino parking lot. Thousands of spectators and race fans will have the chance all day long to get up close to the race vehicles and drivers as they weave their way through the hundreds of contingency donors set up on display.
At daybreak Saturday, the real business of the weekend gets underway when the first race vehicle blasts off the line at the start held on the streets in the middle of Parker, Arizona. Every racer will be on equal ground, including returning champions, as their quest for the season class championships begins. Back this year will be the hugely popular “Parker Python”, a special two mile infield section of thrilling jumps and switch-backs in the middle of the main pits.
The 2010 Blue Water Resort & Casino “PARKER 425”…If you’re a racer, you don’t want to miss the challenge. If you’re a race fan, you don’t want to miss the adventure.
More info on the Parker 425 you can find at “Parker 425 – The legend lives on” and here the schedule for the 2010 Blue Water Parker 425 and of course the source for all of that is the BitD.com website.

Hi race fans. It’s so far again for the baja racing fans to follow up at one of the biggest events this sport gives us. The Baja 1000! it’s here, it’s now! The events prior to the race are running. Contingency row in Ensenada is open and there are many options to watch. BajaRacing Live.com was “born” for the Baja 500 SCORE race but we decided not to use it for the Baja 1000 racing to publish the public available information. (read more below to new source for that). It would be boring to do so for the racing fans to see all the time the same website, wouldn’t it?? Despite the announcement to open the Baja Racing News website at www.baja-racing-news.com earlier during the year we changed our mind. This domain – baja-racing-news.com – is “dirty” since a amateur gratis Google Blog is using a similar name with highly questionable activities. Our investigations into that was like digging in a sewage pit! To bad but we will not give in on that and just choose a different option. To do at least somethings good with that web space and domain. We decided to make it the baja-racing-news watchdog website and hope we can help that innocent people fall into the traps put up to lure them in under the cover of off-road, racing and Baja races. All we will do there is point out any false information, outdated and re-used off-road info and point / suggest maybe the direction to look for alternatives.
As for the so called racecast or webcast of the Baja 1000 or better as the full name is: Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 2009 we created a website collecting all available open sources to provide information. In other words: we do not provide much of the data published except from 2-3 source we have at the race reporting live to us. All other data on display is freely available and we just collected all the source and publish it. This is including not to alter or hide logos and links to the originating websites. This give you as racefan the option to choose and select to stay with us or go where the info comes from. The www.score-baja-1000.com will open later tonight or briefly before the race starts tomorrow morning. You can select between different tracking maps as well you can participate with the Google Friend Connect and leave comments live. You can see this feature now already at the bottom of the screen. All you need is a Google ID (gmail) and you in. Google friend connect is like a mix between Twitter and a chat-box and almost instant.
We hope you all will enjoy the different feature. Pre race information is available at Puro Off-Road as long as it is important otherwise we don’t real want to dump more out to the net if it is already there.
