Having a week off for Chinese New Year gave me plenty of free time to relax. So we decided to take a trip to visit one of the 2 World Heritage Cities in Malaysia (the other one is George Town, Penang, which we visited in December last year). Bad time to visit for a couple of reasons, weather was too hot to do much exploring and over crowded! No chance to try the local food like the chicken rice

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR 2012!

These cookies seemed to be a favorite among bloggers. Everyone was raving about when I first came across it last year but I did not have the time to make it then. So this year I make sure I included this in my to do list. When I saw Min's creation in her blog, I used the google translator but unfortunately, the translation was wrong! Instead of 250g potato flour, 100g flour, google

Pineapple Tarts

The first batch of CNY goodies that I had made were these delicious pineapple tarts. I used Wendy's recipe which was quite challenging since the pastry was really soft but after a few tries, I got better and were able to make them quite fast. You should try making some, they are super delicious! Zoe of Bake for happy kids baked some too, you can see hers in her blog here.

We are well into 2012 and it's still all about cleaning up and hopefully will be able to bake some cookies since the Lunar New Year is just 2 weeks away! 2012 is only a couple of hours away as I type out this post....I am not one to reminisce over what has happened and passed....for the world, it has been very turbulent with many major disasters and for me too, it has been very stressful and some chapters in my life is closed forever (that's a huge relief!) and here's hoping that 2012 will be more peaceful and bring more joy and laughter

It's a holi, holiday!

<georss:box>5.0102476 100.16876570000001 5.5162206000000005 100.8004797</georss:box>

It's the end of the year 2011! One more year has passed, everyone is busy clearing their annual leave and making preparation for school for their children. Soon it's time to bake cookies for more celebrations! The office is often quiet at this time as everyone is away on holidays, me included:D I took a trip to Penang with my guys recently to relax. We started our journey at the break of dawn

Tandoori Delights

Hmmm.....after the long holiday, it's back to work today and boy! was I busy, and not too soon, it's time to pack up and go home, that's the best part of the day:D Well, I can't wait to visit other blogs to read about their holiday activities and drool over their delicious festive food. As for me, I had the opportunity to enjoy something spicy and delicious, northern Indian food:)

I have eaten this dish many times outside as it provides a balanced meal on a plate, and of course it is pretty delicious too. The only bad thing about this dish is you have to deep fry the vermicelli. Well, today, I decided to try my hand in preparing this dish for the first time and I must say I am quite satisfied with it. I didn't add the flat noodles (kuey tiao) as is often

Cinnamon Sugar Pull Apart Bread

This delicious bread is similar to cinnamon rolls except in this case you cut out the dough and stack them in the loaf pan before baking. The taste is similar and of course the fun part is you get to pull each piece out of the loaf to enjoy with your favorite cup of beverage:) I had this for breakfast and had to resist myself from eating too many pieces! The boy had his lightly toasted and

Greentea Cookies

When I saw these delicious cookies on Nami's blog, Just One Cookbook, I immediately told myself I am going to bake these for the Chinese New Year. Well, I can't wait that long! I have all the ingredients in my pantry, so I decided to make some last weekend. Turned out to be as delicious as they look! The greentea flavor is very light and the white chocolates combine really well with these

Stew Pork with Potato Rosti

Yesterday, we cooked a simple meal of stewed pork and this easy to make potato rosti and the meal was ready within the hour! It was so delicious and healthy since I only used lean pork and very little oil for stewing. Turned out to be very flavorful and we have a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrate and fibre from the vegetables. So delicious and am thinking of cooking this stew again to be

Rice Cake - stir fried with pork and prawns

When I saw this tart in Anncoo's blog, I was literally drooling over her gorgeous creation. I know I had to bake one to enjoy and was I so glad that I did, this tart was delicious! Ken whipped up a simple vanilla sauce to go with it and it was a perfect combination...every flavour just came together so beautifully!

I made this kuih ketayap after salivating over it while surfing through the bloggers' posts recently and found quite a few recipes for this kuih. One particular recipe caught my eye because of it's simple steps. I love the green colored crepes that were used to wrap the coconut filling. With the use of coconut milk in the batter made cooking these crepe easy even on a stainless steel

Eating out

This weekend, it has been wet so far. I think I get enough exercise just running out to take in the clothes when it rains and putting it out again after a couple of minutes, and then just when I am getting comfortable on the sofa, the rain starts again and so I have to run out to take in the clothes one more time and so that's how it goes for quite a few times before the clothes are dry enough

Almond Butter Cake

Recently I saw this delicious cake at Kitchen flavours and I quickly bookmarked it to bake since I have some almonds in my fridge. It was indeed a very fragrant and delicious cake. A bit tedious because I have to make the almond paste but well worth the effort!

It has a very even surface without a dome on the top....texture is so soft!

Definitely a keeper!

Outside very noisy with fire crackers being let off non-stop...don't think I will get any sleep before midnight lol! Since it is a holiday today, I took the boys for a meal of dim sum at Grand Imperial Restaurant at 1 Utama.
I love this custard filled bun, I have tried to make this without much success, must try again one day:P

There are many traditional kuih circulating around in blogs at the moment and the photos are certainly drool worthy and inspiring. I saw Ancoo making this ondeh-ondeh with pumpkin puree and Sonia making it in the original pandan flavor (which is my favorite really). I decided to make it with some left over sweet potato which I used to make bread and the result was fabulous. Chopped gula

Another week just flew by....and I have another weekend meal to post here
