Marriage class at my church, Calvary Chapel Sawgrass in Davie, Florida. It’s usually a black and white theme and Bonnie gives me creative freedom with the cake design.

The cake was for a small group of eight couples, hence the small cake. Flowers are white roses and hydrangeas made using the Wilton Gumpaste which I love to use for making sugar flowers. I found it dries quickly and can roll very thin. I made the cake four alternate layers of white chocolate and chocolate (to reflect the black and white theme) cake filled with French Vanilla buttercream and chocolate fudge.

Casino David

Casino David
Originally uploaded by Baking Jeannie
This is my first attempt at a "poker/casino" theme cake and I am very pleased with how it turned out. I have know so many who have suffered some form of cancer and did not survive even after fighting for many years, however, there are those who survival just inspires you.

Here is how Camilla shared her sister, Akimi’s fight with lupus, I could not have said it any better:

My baby sister was diagnosed with lupus while in college about 5 years ago. This was shock and awe to our entire family as she was always the pillar of health. There is no one in our family with the disease, but we had to consider our grandfather. He was a hemophiliac. Hemophilia refers to a group of bleeding disorders in which it takes a long time for the blood to clot. He suffered from this disease his entire life accompanied by rheumatoid arthritis which my aunt still suffers from today.

My sister life was in danger during the first period of her diagnosis, we almost lost her. With the proper medical attention and support around the clock from our family, she recovered. Today she has her own condo and works a full time job. She has completed school using online college and recently adopted a tea cup puppy. We celebrated her 30th birthday Feb 19th and as you can imagine our family was over the moon.

She has managed to go from 7 medications a day, too only 1. With determination and a high will to live as normal a life as possible, she has managed to mentally deal with the pain of this disease. For as long as I can remember my sister has always been strong willed and always had a strong mind. I believe she is where she is today because of that.

After getting a biopsy a few years ago for a lump in my breast before that I never gave cancer a second thought. Later a cousin die suddenly from cancer and became more cognizant of how much it affect our lives. So I was really happy to make Akimi’s birthday cake since it’s for a celebration which is worth celebrating.

Akimi’s 30th birthday cake is a vanilla bean cake filled with vanilla Swiss Meringue buttercream, covered with chocolate ganache and fondant. The cake was sculptured from sheet cakes.

Happy 4th Birthday C’Yie!

This is my effort of doing a stitching pattern on a cake. It was not as neat as I would have liked but the results was OK. The cake is a white chocolate buttermilk filled with white chocolate mousse.

When the cake was delivered, the older sister stuck her finger right into the cake. My hubby, my able cake-lifter, was shocked. I guess she could not wait to taste some delicious butter cream. That’s children for you…now tell me, which of you at that age could wait until the time of cutting the cake?!? Well, if you were more into playing games, then I will say no one else but me…OMG! So much for sugar talk.

Walk good ‘till next time. I could just kick myself.

Being the A-type personality and a fast learner, it’s very important to make room for the regular “Ooops!” when planning your schedule for cake baking and decorating. First I had a very bad sinus infection and could not start baking the night before; next I squeezed in a small purse cake for a relative’s friend; and the worst I forgot to take the show piece of the cake with me when packing. The stress alone of doing the cake especially one with tons of detail fondant pieces attached to Swiss Meringue buttercream covered cake was more than enough plus the ringing of the telephone and text messages (one from my sister wanting to know if I was on Skype?!?)…people…it’s Saturday and I have a business to run!

Thank God I had time enough to drive the 40 minutes round-trip in time to set mask on cake for the big surprise. Yes…it was a surprise birthday party! It would not have been funny if I were the one sneaking the mask onto the cake after the grand surprise entrance. Extra time in your plan is very important!

Till next time…walk good.

Jeannie

Free website - Powered By Wix.com

PLAY-IN-SUGAR...BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS!

My business, Blue Ivy Company & Cakery added a new service called Play-in-Sugar. It's my friend, Chef Deloraine Wellington of Delicious Blessings and I teaches cake decorating at children's party. Deloraine has the experience on a larger scale doing children's parties of this sort, while I on the other hand have taught the children in my Children's Church class baking and decorating cookies. The youngsters loved decorating the cakes and were just having a blast especially when we have the challenge.
Originally uploaded by bakingjeannie
This cake for Garth and Tiffany Parke I made and delivered to the beautiful Wyndham Sea Gardens Resort, Pompano Beach, Florida for a wedding ceremony on the beach and reception across the street at the resort. I never thought this would have been one of my most bespoken cakes because of the sugar orchids and hibiscus cascading down the side of the cake. I think I got carried away with the flowers compared to the picture Garth sent me for inspiration. The couple wanted a yellow cake with American butter cream. I made shells using white chocolate and white candy melts, then dust with pearl luster dust. The final touch on the cake was airbrushing cake with pearlized color to give the dewy and shimmery look.

The lovely couple and mother of the bride were very happy with the result. I met Tiffany in December 2009 when I attended the wedding of her sister Tangella, whose wedding cake I also made and was a big hit too.

Healthy Eats » Archive » 5 Ingredients: Mustard Roasted Salmon

I came across this recipe from Healthy Eats, and it looks just 'delish!' I was experiencing one of those 'spiritaul moments' beacuse I felt Him working through me to create another sugar-art masterpiece (see picture posted above).

This cake I made for our nephew's sister-in-laws. The wedding was on the beach and the reception held at the Wyndham Seahorse Resort, Pompano Beach, Florida.

The cake was a yellow cake filled and covered with American buttercream which I airburshed with Super Pearl Sheen. The shells were made using white chocolate and white candy melts then dusted with Super Pearl. The orchids, hibisus and filler flowers made using gumpaste. I was really happy how this cake turned out. I did not wait through the whole wedding, but before I got home, I received a text of "Thank you..." and how well it was received.

If the bride and groom are happy, then I'm happy.

Walk good till next time...
Yes; it is a piece of art. Because every forming, molding, shaping and colouring, for me, is an expression of the creative essence that God has placed in me. If I should never earn great wealth doing cake decorating, I will still have joy because I feel I am doing and using what God has given me to make others happy.

In the way Noah received the promise from God after the flood subsides; I see my rainbow in the sky too...what a wonderful God we serve!!

Remember: baking is a science; cake decorating is an art...
Invitations had buttons and foot prints. Gumpaste baby in cot. I removed the block the cot stood on and placed it on a gold plate instead. Forgot to take that shot.

This is my first attempt at making a cake and cupcakes to go along. I really enjoyed doing this cake for Lisa. I was inspired by a cake I saw on Cake Central:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 238px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UP4-zpHE7-4/Sex8PwLsG4I/AAAAAAAAAQU/0fiUeJDi_xI/s320/LeslyRaymond+003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326769069346265986" />
It was a lemon cake with raspberry filling covered with buttercream and fondant. This weekend is her wedding. I am so happy for her...she asked Lizca and I to do her wedding cake!

Walk good and happy caking!

Jeannie

The Shoes are Made for Eating

This is a true statment: "Women love to buy shoes, pocketbooks (handbags or purse) and articles of clothing." The reason I said this is true, is lately I have been getting a number of request from friends to make them a pocketbook cake or a cake with a pair of shoes on top. Sometime, the party has both - pocketbook and shoes!

This is Apryl's birthday cake. It was my first of this type (animal print and shoes)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 276px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UP4-zpHE7-4/Sex4PkaHIgI/AAAAAAAAAP8/w-TdSvTZJIM/s320/Apryl-pocketbook+004.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326764668139020802" />
This is also Apry's birthday cake. The pocketbook is similar to her baby bag. I just left off the baby stuff since it was a "birthday cake".
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UP4-zpHE7-4/Sex5AdIwEkI/AAAAAAAAAQE/Ollopsm93As/s320/Apryl-pocketbook+009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326765508000748098" />
This cake is for my friend, Linda. A yellow cake covered in buttercream and a pair of shoes. The cake was for her Bible Study group. Lois was celebrating her 80-something birthday!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UP4-zpHE7-4/Sex5diAJSXI/AAAAAAAAAQM/lwFMOB6PaBg/s320/Apryl-pocketbook+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326766007523035506" />
I have four more cakes to do around Mother's Day. Last night I knock-up these yellow cupcakes; cover them with buttercream (not Swiss Meringue Buttercream - it was almost as fluffly) and fancy them with fondant/gumpaste decorations. I was in "sugar heaven." Check them out:<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 242px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UP4-zpHE7-4/Sc0mKmAPqjI/AAAAAAAAAO0/m_gxXr21mBA/s320/cupcakes-blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317948698436545074" />
By the way, I made 12 cupcakes...the cupcake caper strikes again!
Walk good and happy caking...

Free Signature Generator

Dol-fan Cake

Have you ever heard of a “Dol-fan?” Well a Dol-fan is a diehard, win or loose, hands down, supporter of the home team, The Miami Dolphins kind-a-fan. In other words, this is the unofficial name for my nephew, Michael – he is a Dol-fan.

So it was no surprise for his birthday cake he wanted a Miami Dolphins theme cake. A few years ago I made him a Miami Dolphin cake for his birthday and ended up having to make a New York Jets cake for his older brother, Dominic, two months later. I am sure he thought I was going to make a sheet cake and put the Dolphin logo in buttercream on the cake. I surprised him with this cake gift:

Michael was turning 11, so I placed it above the Dolphin on the helmet. He plays Impact football and his number is five, so the five yards line fell right in place. The Dolphin I drew on sugar paper and coloured with gel food colour. He wanted a chocolate cake, so I made a cake filled with whipped chocolate cream filling and covered with chocolate Swiss Meringue Buttercream then covered with fondant. The biggest challenge was stacking and carving the cake; plus making the grill out of gum paste. The grill broke and I had to patch it (forgot to make an extra one) in a number of places – oops!

My sister told me that he said, if his NFL career does not take off he would like to become a baker. Sweet! We have another baker in the family.

Walk good and happy caking!

Jeannie

Cheetah Cake

In January I had a special request for a birthday cake from my niece, Lady Katherine. That request was for a “Cheetah Girls” theme birthday cake. Well, I was up to the challenge, because that’s exactly what it was – a challenge to my cake decorating skills. I got a few ideas from a few bakers from one of my favorite addiction: Cake Central.

The cake was a French Vanilla cheesecake-flavored yellow cake with cheesecake filling and Swiss Meringue Buttercream. The cheetah print was on sugar paper along with pictures of the group on the side. Additional decorations were done using fondant. Lady Katherine was so thrilled! She said the cake was so delicious. With this cake I scored extra “Sweet Auntie Brownie Points!”

Walk good and happy caking. Sweet!!!
