Bakugan, Vol. 4: Heroes Rise

All Bakugan fans should mark August 4, 2009 on their calendars because Warner Home Video has just announced that they're going to release Bakugan, Vol. 4: Heroes Rise on DVD.

As with Volumes 1-3, this DVD is about Dan and his friends and their Bakugan pals who are trying to save the parallel universe of Vestroia and also our good old home planet, Earth from destruction.

There were no details about bonus features or extras that may or may not be included with the DVD at this time.

The Bakugan Video Games isn't going to be released until the fall but a teaser trailer for the game is making it rounds on the internet lately. We really can't tell much about the game from this trailer but it's still cool to watch.

The game will be available on the Nintendo DS, Wii, Xbox and PS3.

Bakugan Books

You'd think that there would be tons of Bakugan Books by now since they're the one of the hottest toys around but there really aren't. Getting a book published and printed and out in the stores takes a long time. But here's what available in for the Bakugan Book lover in your family.

The Battle Brawlers (Bakugan, Book 1)
This is the origin story of Bakugan. It pretty much mirrors the first episode of the Bakugan TV Show. It's perfect for kids who might not have seen all of the TV show episodes and want to know how it all began. This is an 80 page chapter book for readers ages 9-12. This is not a picture book. Bonus: It includes a character guide too.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers: The Battle Begins!
Now this book is also based on the first episode of the Bakugan TV Show but it's in the form of a comic book. Color illustrations are on every one of the 96 pages in this book and it starts out with a character guide.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers 2: The Masquerade Ball
Next up is another comic book edition. This is the second part and picks up where The Battle Begins left off. Another 96 pages of full color Bakugan action.

How To Draw (Bakugan)
Here's something different. This is a guide book on How To Draw Bakugan. It has 32 pages of instructions and examples and it's recommend for children ages 9-12. I've seen a lot of the "How to Draw..." books and this one isn't for beginners. Anyone can draw Pokemon with some practice, but Bakugan are pretty tough.

Sticker Book (Bakugan)
This last book is a good one for the young children. It's a sticker book so even if they can't read they can still get some enjoyment from the over 100 stickers inside. It's good for a young collector too because not only are there stickers in the book but it's also a guide book. For example, find the Drago sticker and put it on the Drago page and learn about Drago. That's how most sticker books work now a days.

Here's something that every young Bakugan fan will be interested in. These packs of Bakugan Temporary Tattoos contain 35 Tattoos of your favorite Bakugan Characters.

All you have to do to put them on is peel the tattoo and place it on yourself. Then hold a wet sponge over it for about 30 seconds and you'll be all set. When you're done showing off your cool tattoo to all of your friends they can be easily washed off with baby oil or rubbing alcohol. Or if you're like my kids, after about a month's worth of baths, it'll eventually wear off.

Bakugan Video Game

If you're looking for a Bakugan Video Game, you're not alone. There's been talk of a DS game in the works and I've even seen rumors of a Wii game under development. Well until a week ago, those rumors were nothing but rumors. Now, thanks to Activision, we've got the facts.

On February 23, 2009, Activision announced that it has purchased the rights to produce Bakugan video games.

The games are now under development and should be released in Fall 2009 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 & 3, Nintendo Wii & DS.

So what would the ideal Bakugan game be like? With the Wii you could definitely have some sort of Bakugan marble rolling action added to the game. Or if you're more into Bakugan Tournaments, online play would be a must. What sort of features do you want to see?

Bakugan Trap

This weekend my sister called me up with an emergency. Her son was playing Bakugan and didn't know what the rules were for the new Bakugan Traps. And sadly, both me and son were clueless.

A search for "Bakugan Trap" didn't help too much either. All we found were YouTube videos of people showing off their Bakugan collections to music. After some further digging, I did manage to find some information on the Official Bakugan Site.

Here's what it says:

"Bakugan Trap^TM Official Rules:

A Bakugan Trap^TM can only be played after the Gate Card is flipped over, when a battle has started between two Bakugan. The Bakugan Trap^TM must match the attribute (Pyrus, Aquos, Darkus, etc.) of your Bakugan in the Battle.

Place your Bakugan Trap^TM on the Gate Card to reveal the hidden attribute or G-Power rating on the inside of the Trap. If an attribute shows, change the attribute of your battling Bakugan to that of the Bakugan Trap^TM. If the G-Power shows, add that to your battling Bakugan's G-Power.

At the end of the battle, your Bakugan Trap^TM goes to your used pile.

When you move your Bakugan from your used pile to your unused pile (because you need one to roll), move your Bakugan Trap^TM as well.

You may only use 1 Bakugan Trap^TM in the basic game."

That explanation was a little heavy on the Trademark logo but it was still good none the less. Unfortunately I found it too late to help my nephew.

Bakugan Serpenoid

The Serpenoid Bakugan likes to slowly strangle the power out of it's opponents. This snake-like Bakugan is extremely fast and quick to strike. Another trait they exhibit is that they can absorb the power that they squeeze out of their enemies.

They may slither along the ground but during a battle then can rise up to meet any Bakugan face to face.

The Bakugan Serpenoid is a common Bakugan and Amazon has lots of them available for sale. Don't be afraid to buy them loose, you'll get a guaranteed G Power instead of just randomly hoping for the best.

Draw Bakugan

If you're a Bakugan fan, you've probably tried to draw them at some point. It's not too easy to draw any of the Bakugan characters. I've tried a few times and I've decided that I had better stick to drawing Pokemon.

Here's a few YouTubes done by people who don't have the same problem as me. They're excellent artists and their Bakugan look great.

Bakugan Hydronoid

If you're looking for a Bakugan Hydronoid, you are not alone. But first, let me correct you because they are actually called Hydranoids and not Hydronoids. They are also very rare.

I've managed to track a few down on Amazon. Here's one that is shipped loose and comes with random G Power. I guess they open the packages at the store and keep the Bakugan with the highest G Power and then sell the rest. You know what? That's fine with me. I'd do the same thing if I owned a hobby shop.

Bakugan Hand Launcher

In the Bakugan TV show, Dan and the gang have these cool launchers that send their Bakugan in battle. In real life, you probably have to dig into your pockets to find the Bakugan that you want to use before you roll it on the floor.

Well your rolling days could be over with one of these Bakugan Launchers. The wrist mounted launcher looks the most like the launcher that Dan wears in the cartoon but it doesn't come with any directions. Let's just say that most people are confused by this and don't really know how to use it. But don't worry, I've attached a YouTube video to this post that shows you exactly how to use it.

There's also a smaller launcher (which unfortunately is about the same price as the bigger one) that's called the Bakugan Hand Launcher. Operating it is a little easier to figure out with instructions but really both launchers work just fine.

Bakugan Drago

Everyone knows that Dan is the star of the Bakugan TV Show as far as humans go. But he's a pain in the butt most of the time. My favorite character on the show has to be Drago.

Drago is a Dragonoid Bakugan. This is what the Official Bakugan Site has to say about Dragonoid.

The Dragonoid is designed to seek and destroy. Equipped with high intelligence, they are limited in Battle mobility but compensate for through powerful strikes. Dragonoids will also fire high-speed oscillating, electromagnetic waves from their venomous mouths, annihilating anyone who gets in their way.

And here's the blurb about Drago.

Pyrus Drago, is Dan’s guardian Bakugan. He is a gigantic dragon-like Bakugan from “Pyrus”: a space attributed to fire. He is one of the most powerful species living in Vestroia, able to infinitely evolve on his own. In battle, his power is to radiate intense heat from his body, dissolving everything around him. He is the leader of the Bakugan; a true knight with strong convictions and a deep friendship with Dan.

Drago must have a deep friendship with Dan, especially because he forgave Dan for tossing him in the river in the first episode.

Deka Bakugan

If you're looking for the giant Bakugan balls, then you need to remember that they're called Deka Bakugan.

They work exactly the same way are the original Bakugan Battle Brawlers. They come with cards and they still spring open. But the Deka Bakugan are giant baseball sized Bakugan.

There's one more thing to remember when you're buying them online at sites like Amazon or Ebay. Don't confuse the Dekas with the B2s. B2 Bakugan are only slightly larger than the original style. You should be able to find B2 Bakugan this holiday season at stores like Wal-Mart. They seem to be fully stocked and offer the best prices around.

The Deka are too big to fit in the launchers or the carrying cases and they'll totally roll off your Bakugan Battle Arena but you won't see many of them on the playground. They're definitely more rare and they'll be hard to find in stores. If you want a Deka Bakugan, you'll most likely have to buy it online.

Unlike the Pokemon Trading Card game, Bakugan actually requires some physical skill to play. Some people have called it a updated version of marbles but it's really a lot more.

Rolling your Bakugan marbles takes some practice but becoming a good roller will help you win more Bakugan Brawls.

These two videos show a few different techniques of how to do the Bakugan Roll. And remember that when you're playing in a Bakugan Battle Arena, don't forget to use the bumpers as part of your strategy. Not only will the bumpers keep your marbles from rolling out of play but if you bank they just right, you'll be able to roll over a gate card that might have otherwise been out of reach.

I made this Bakugan Movie using Animoto. It was actually pretty easy to do. All I had to do was upload all of the pictures, select the music and that was it. And if the pictures were already on Flickr, I wouldn't even have had to upload them. And see for yourself, Animoto makes a great Bakugan Movie.

What's the most annoying thing about buying Bakugan Toys? Most of the Starter Packs or Battle Packs don't tell you the names of the Bakugan inside the box. Most are just labeled with a color like, Bakugan Starter Pack Red. That's nice but it doesn't tell you the Bakugan Names!

So if you're like me and haven't committed all the Bakugan names to memory yet and don't want to sit through Bakugan TV Show marathon with a pencil and paper in your lap, then this is a pretty good video for you to watch.

Bakugan Battle Arena

Bakugan Battle Arena
This game board is very stylish and definitely cool looking. If you want to have Bakugan battles, the Bakugan Battle Arena isn't mandatory but it does make your battle brawls more enjoyable.

How does it make your battle brawls more enjoyable? Well, first off, the board has bumpers at the edges of the playing area. You won't be rolling your Bakugan marbles across the playground anymore. And a player who can learn to bank the marbles off the bumpers will have a definite advantage.

Plus, it's easier to arrange your Bakugan Cards on the playing surface. All of your cards will be lined up nice and straight.

Lastly, the Battle Arena is just cool. On the Bakugan TV Show, when Dan starts a battle, he yells, "Bakugan Field Open". Now what kid wouldn't want have an actual arena to play on. Yelling, "Bakugan Field Open" and then playing on the ground isn't as much fun.

The Good:

Slick Game Board for playing Bakugan
Very Portable for playing at a friend's house
Bumpers keep your Bakugans from rolling off the board
Great surface for positioning your Bakugan Cards

The Bad:

Expensive
Doesn't come with any Bakugans
Doesn't come with any Cards

Overall:
You can play Bakugan without a Battle Arena but it's more fun to play with one.

The first thing you'll need if you want to play Bakugan is a Bakugan Starter Pack. The Starter Pack comes with three Bakugan Marbles and three Metal Cards.

The marbles are the actual Bakugan creatures like Dragonoids, Juggernoids, etc. When the marble is rolled over a Metal Card it will open up to reveal the Bakugan inside.

The Starter Kits are available in a few different colors but you shouldn't be picky if you find one in the store. Bakugan Toys have been on several Hottest Toys of 2008 lists so they are expected to sell out.

There are Bakugan Battle Arenas and other toys to play Bakugan with but a Bakugan Starter Pack is a great place to start.

Bakugan Opening Naration

This is basically the Bakugan primer. It's the narration that starts off each show and gives first time viewers an idea of what's going on.

I know this is going to sound weird but one day my whole world changed. You see cards starting dropping from the sky, coming down like rain. At first we didn't know where they were all coming from or who sent them. We only knew that they were more than just ordinary playing cards.

And it was happening all around the world. In the North and the South.

They landed everywhere. Together with my new online friends from around the world, we invented a wicked new game we called Bakugan. That's when the power of the cards was revealed. Each one held it's own battling beast which came to life when you threw it down. The Battles where intense. and if you chose the wrong card, you lost it and the beast inside.

But that's only half the story. Another even bigger battle was taking place in a parallel universe called Vestroia.

My name is Dan and together with my friends Runo, Marucho, Julie, Mr hot shot himself Shun and Alice.

We are the Bakugan Battle Brawlers.

The Bakugan Theme Song plays at the beginning of every episode and it usually gets my son all fired up for the show. The creators of the show were trying to go a little more edgy than something like the Pokemon Theme song and I think they succeeded.
