Garuda Wisnu Kencana ( GWK )
Garuda Wisnu Kencana atau sering disebut dengan GWK terletak di Bukit unggasan- Jimbaran atau sekitar 35 menit dari kota Denpasar. Patung ini dibangun pada tahun 1997 oleh Putra Bali yang bernama I Nyoman Nuarta yang akan dijadiikan patung terbesar didunia. GWK adalah jendela seni dan budaya Pulau Dewata yang memiliki latar belakang alami dan letak yang sangat strategis sehingga bisa melihat bali yang indah dari atas.

Pantai Dreamland
Pantai Dreamland terletak di kawasan pecatu atau sekitar 45 menit dari kota Denpasar. Disekitar pantai Dreamland terdapat tebing-tebing yang menjulang tinggi serta pantainya yang berpasir putih sehingga membuat pemandangan di sekitar pantai ini begitu memukau. Pantai dreamland sendiri hampir mirip dengan pantai kuta namun jauh lebih Sepi dan airnya pun masih nampak sebening Kristal serta memiliki ombak yang tinggi dan besar sehingga pantai ini sangat cocok untuk melakukan olahraga surfing.
Pura Uluwatu – Tari Kecak
Pura Uluwatu terletak di Desa Pecatu, Kecamatan kuta , Kabupaten Badung atau sekitar 30 km dari Kota Denpasar. Pura Uluwatu menempati lahan diatas tebing yang memiliki ketinggian sekitar 70 m diatas permukaan laut. Didepan pura terdapat hutan kecil yang berfungsi sebagai tempat penyangga kesucian pura serta menjadi tempat hunian puluhan kera. Pura uluwatu juga menjadi terkenal karna tepat dibawahnya adalah pantai pecatu yang kerap kali digunakan sebagai tempat pelaksanaan event- event internasional seperti olahraga surfing. Disamping pemandangan alam yang begitu memukau anda juga bisa menyaksikan pertunjukan Tari Kecak dimana tarian ini menceritakan tetang kisah Rama dan Shinta dari cerita Ramayana.

Nama Besakih berasal dari kata "Basuki", diambil dari kata "Wasuki" yang berarti Keselamatan dalam bahasa Sansekertanya. Sedangkan, dalam mitologi Samudramanthana, nama "Besuki" sebenarnya mengacu pada "Naga Besukian", yang mendiami Gunung Agung, gunung berapi utama di Bali.

2.Elephant Conservation & Education Show di Kampung Gajah. Ini merupakan area dimana terdapat museum gajah, kandang gajah, tunggang gajah, souvenir, dan, warung gajah.

3.Elephant Bathing di Ganesha. Taman Ganesha ini memiliki sebuah patung Ganesha setinggi 9 m yang merupakan pintu masuk menuju Bali Theater. Di sini juga dapat dilihat replika relief yang berada di Gunung Kawi. Di Taman Ganesha anda dapat menyaksikan gajah yang sedang mandi di Tirta Gajah. Pengunjung dapat berinteraksi secara dekat dengan gajah-gajah yang sedang mandi.

4. Balinese Holy Water Procession di Tirta Sulasih. Tirta Sulasih adalah tempat untuk mandi dan merupakan tempat pemandian suci. Ranthambore is a national park and tiger reserve in Rajasthan state of western India. the park lies at the edge of a plateau, and is bounded to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River. there are several lakes in the park. it is named for the historic Ranthambore fortress, which lies within the national park. the park covers an area of 392 km2, and is famous for its tiger population, and is one of India's Project Tiger reserves. in 1972 the Indian government conducted their first ever census operation on the tiger. on the same year, the original "Tiger Task Force" had selected nine areas to become special reserves, and in 1973 "Project Tiger" was inaugurated in Corcett National Park in Uttar Pradesh. By 1974 Ranthambore had also been designated a "Project Tiger" reserve. it got it's status of a National Park in 1981.

Taman Safari Indonesia is an institution that deals extensively with ex-situ conservation of Sumatran Elephants. However, it has also established important and pioneering links between in-situ and ex-situ elepahant conservation efforts. since 1985, Taman Safari Indonesia has been involved in helping to solve the human - elephant conflict in sumatra. one achievement was the establishment of Elephants Training Centre (ETCs). TSI started the first ETC in Way Kambas National Park in Lampung Province than established other ETCs in Riau and Aceh. There are now six Elephant Training Centre in Sumatra. Bali Safari & Marine Park also established for Elephant captivity. We call it "Kampung Gajah" or Elephant Village. We have 20 Sumatran Elephant right now. here, we can enjoy with the Elephant trail,cuddles with the baby Elephants, take some pictures, elephant feeding and also we can see the elephants education show. this elephants education show is tell about the characteristic, their habits in the wild, the different between of Sumatran elephant and African elephant. elephant is the biggest wild animal since its body weight can be 5000 kg, while the female weight is lighter. the spreading out of Asian elephants is in India, Peninsula, Sumatra and Srilangka. Comparing to the African elephants, asian elephats have smaller body. these wild animals live in groups, consisting about 10-30 elephants in a group. their foods are all kinds of grasses and fruits. only male elephants have ivory tusks. the tusks start to grow at the age of 2 or 3 years old. tusk of female is not appear. the pregnancy period of an elephant is 22 months and they give birth 1 or 2 baby elephants.

The food in Bali is generally safe to eat. Most expats eat a combination of western and Indonesian food on a daily basis. The odd stomach bug does occur but don’t let fear prevent you from enjoying what Bali has to offer. Restaurants now know to wash their vegetables in filtered water, salads are fine to eat.

Bali has its own cuisine, masakan Bali. Balinese food consists or rice as a staple, often served with dishes made of pork, a variety of sate and vegetables, often mixed with chili. Two of the most famous items in Balinese cuisine are lawar and babi guling.

• Lawar:
Lawar is one of Bali’s most famous local dishes. Made from pig’s blood and spices, together with an assortment of other goodies, lawar can be found in every village in Bali. Balinese traditional spices such as kunyit, shrimp paste, salt and ground pepper, galangal and other roots; grated coconut, green beans, boiled young jackfruit and occasionally, singkong leaves, all chopped up and blended together.

• Babi guling:
Babi guling is Bali’s most famous dish. Ask a Balinese person what their favourite food is and there is a good chance they’ll say “Bali guling”. Indonesia is a Muslim country, so pork isn’t celebrated as it is here in Bali. The Balinese however often keep pigs at home behind the house, feeding on food scraps, for that important time when they will be killed and eaten. The young suckling pig is used because of its tenderness, spit-roasted to perfection. Finding Bali Guling is a bit hard in tourist areas as it takes a while to prepare and is not really a dish most foreigners will ask for. As soon as you get away from the tourist scene in Kuta / Seminyak and head to Kerobokan, Mengwi, Ubud, or any other local place, the babi guling stands pop up.

• Vegetarian Indonesian food:
Vegetarians visiting Bali will have no problem at all, finding delicious food. The selection of international restaurants is amazing. You might go for a spinach lasagna at Warung Italia, a vegetarian Indian dish at Gateway to India, or a vegetarian Meditereanean plate at Zula, on Jl. Dhyana Pura. But how about Indonesian food?

Hitting a Padang food place, the Sumatran style places with pyramids of food in the window, you will notice many vegetarian options. Rice will be a staple, vegetable choices are often free and other items cost more. For example I might choose fried temple (made from soy beans), kangkung (the leafy green vegetable), nangka (curried jackfruit), hard boiled egg and a potato cake.

In other Indonesian-style places, you will find dishes such as Gado Gado, which is steamed cabbage and sprouts, with rice, tofu and peanut sauce. Its quite tasty!

A good option for a vegetarian is nasi campur (mixed rice) I get this all the time, with meat of course, but if you specify no meat, you will get, rice, various green vegetables including spinach, green beans, tofu, tempe, egg, peanuts, sambal, etc.

• Popular Dishes in Bali: Nasi Goreng:
Nasi goreng (fried rice) is a dish popular, not only in Bali, but all over Asia. Nasi goreng is made by tossing a small plate of steamed white rice, into a wok, with oil, vegetables and sometimes seafood, or chicken. It is usually served with a fried egg slapped on top and giant prawn cracker.

Javanese food:

Javanese cuisine originates from the island of Java. Here is a little guide to the cuisine of Java.

• Common spice ingredients:
Common ingredients are nasi (rice), bawang putih (garlic),
bawang merah (red garlic), tumeric, merica (pepper), pala (black pepper).

Usually use coconut oil for cooking, which comes in a bottle.

• Vegetables:
Wortel (carrot), kacang panjang (long beans), buncis (green beans), jangung (corn), sawi kankung (green vegetables), kentang (potato), terong (sour vegetable), taro (root vegetable), cabbage, kacang (peanuts).

• Meats:
Ayam (chicken), sapi (beef), kambing (goat), burung (bird)

• Fish:
Udang (prawn), bandeng (boney white fish), cumi-cumi (squid), kepiting (crab), tuna, gurame (flat white fish), tongkol (barracuda).

Javanese food has a sweet taste, without many spices, so if they want ot cook one meal they use special spices, they don’t like to mix spices. for example Balinese food often contains a mixture of many hot and powerful spices, whereas Javanese cuisine often says ‘this dish should have onion, but no garlic, this other dish should have garlic but no onion’.

Sumatra has more spicy food, Javanese food is famous for sweet, west Java is famous for raw vegetables, Central Java very sweet.

Often items containing, fried fish, tofu, tempe etc, can be cooked and served cold, just as in a warung. The rice that accompanies it is usually served hot, whether it be plain rice, yellow
rice or rice with coconut milk. In Java it is popular to use a wajan (wok) for cooking, over a gas burner.

The most popular methods of cooking are goreng (deep frying) in the wajan, rebus (boiling) is used for eggs, noodles, tofu, tempe. Bakar (grilling) is used for fish.

Javanese love using coconut milk. This is applied to dishes, by cooking the meat and vegetables in a wajan with hot oil. After they ingredients are ready, they are transfered to another pan / wajan and the coconut milk is added with particular spices.

Javanese cuisine doesn’t really have the ’starter-main course-dessert’ set up of western cuisines. Javanese often prefer to get straight into the main meal with various dishes, accompanied by a sweet drink.

From C. Java the most famous meal is called Gudeg, made from Jackfruit, boiled in a pot with spices. People say the brown colored vegetable, actually tastes better a couple of days after
cooking, the difference in taste noticeable.

Restaurants serving Javanese food give a fork and spoon, but many Javanese people prefer to use hands. In my opinion many westerners would appreciate Javanese food, as it is not overly spicy, interesting, colorful and complex.

• Bubur - The Breakfast Delight:
Go into any restaurant or warung in Indonesia, pick up the menu and you are guaranteed to see bubur on the list. Bubur ayam or chicken porridge are early morning favourites with many Indonesians.

• A Food called Maize: Indonesia:
One of the greatest delights is to get a corn cob or jagung that is toasted over hot coals, put on some salt and coarse pepper, and then make a pig out of yourself devouring it. One will often see grilled corn vendors at the beach, especially on Sunday afternoons, a time popular with Balinese families.

• Vegetarian Tucker in Indonesia:
Vegetarian food in Indonesia is not that hard to find, Asian food in general not having the preoccupation with a big chunk of meat like some European cuisines.

• Eating in a Warung:
One of the many aspects that makes Bali a sensational place to visit is the availability of cheap and tasty food. The most common type of eating establishment in Bali is the warung, the small local cafe type places that traditionally serve local food, but have adapted to accommodate foreign palletes.

• The Pisang Goreng Delight:
Fried bananas or pisang goreng, are one of the tastiest delicacies to devour for a quick snack between meals. Even better, add a couple scoops of ice-cream and it is the yummiest!.

• Guide to tropical fruits in Bali:
Visitors to Bali are often unaware of the delights that await at the local fruit market. Odd looking fruits and strange names can put people off being as adventurous as they might like to be so here is a quick guide to some tropical fruits found in Bali.

• True local: The Bali pomelo
Let us enjoy a citrus fruit of true Indonesian origin. It is a rather large fruit sometimes nearly as big as a football. Its name is jeruk Bali or Bali pomelo.

• How expensive is it?
Tourist warungs in the Kuta area on the narrow lanes leading to the beach will serve you a plate of food for $1-2, depending on what you order. An example of this type of place is Bamboo Corner on Poppies I. Warung Murah on Jl. Oberoi and also Jl. Double Six will do the same with an Indonesian selection. Mid-range places serving western food may found all over. Good options in Seminyak include Ultimo, Trattoria, Rumours, Warung Bonita, Taste and Mykonos. A typical meal can be had for $5. High end places also exist including KuDeTa on the beach in Petitenget, where you can spend $30 or more for dinner. BaliEats does a good job of detailing popular Bali restaurants.

• What are the rules of etiquette in Bali concerning eating?
The rules of etiquette are virtually the same as in the west, except in the budget places you do not have to wait to be seated. In Padang style Indonesian warungs, where the pre-cooked food is in full view, you will get a plate of steamed rice and choose what you want, receiving a ticket and paying before you leave. If you need the waiter / waitress just look in their direction and raise your hand, no need to click your fingers or tap your glass with the knife. In Indonesian the word ‘permisi’ means ‘excuse me’, so “Permisi blee” to a waiter, “Permisi mbah” to a waitress.

In a restaurant / tourist warung your food may not arrive the same time as the other members of your group. In Indonesia it is fine to start eating before other people. Service and tax equaling 21% will be charged in restaurants, not in warungs. Tipping is not a Balinese tradition, however if you would like to leave an extra 5-10% the staff will appreciate it. Warungs will not usually accept credit cards, but restaurants will. If in doubt ask the waitstaff before ordering.

The usual western cutlery is found in restaurants in Bali. Warungs often substituting a spoon for a knife. Eating with one’s hands is perfectly okay in an Indonesian warung.

KEDISAN - OVERVIEW
The fishing and farming village of Kedisan, the community almost directly beneath Penelokan (three km), has foodstalls, pasar area, extensive gardens (oranges, corn, peanuts), souvenir shops, bemo terminal, a big parking lot, ticket office, and boat landing.

The weather is exceedingly mild and enjoyable. Few mosquitoes but some flies due to the extensive gardens. No telephone or fax machines. There are a number of accommodations, several in attractive settings only minutes from the water.
These are the best places to stay if you plan to take a boat trip across the lake. The lake is clean and nice to swim in. Sometimes a bit noisy with dogs at night and cocks in the morning. Always park your vehicle within your hotel grounds, where it will be safe. At night restaurants are convivial meeting places.
The big drawback of Kedisan's accommodations is the swarm of peddlers demanding you buy sarung, shorts, and paintings. They flash you large, sad eyes, show you their guestbooks filled with signatures of satisfied tourists who've bought from them before. Don't fall for it unless you want to buy mass-produced and tacky merchandise and encourage obnoxious behavior in so doing.
Kedisan is also full of people trying to get you to pay them to guide you up the mountain. Again, don't do it; you don't need a guide.
If you feel you must employ someone, choose I Wayan Pineh, a legendary figure who works out of Surya Homestay. Ask him about the 1963 eruption, when he led a geologist safely away from a fountain of hot lava. His knowledge of the region's volcanoes is extensive and his friendly character and exceptional skills make him the undisputed king of volcano guide

Kedisan Floating Restaurant , The small restaurant in Kedisan offers such romantic hide out place for that purpose. The village is located on the side of Lake Batur, close to Kintamani.

To get there from Kintamani, you should take the steep right turn just before Sanjaya Restaurant in Panelokan, around 100m from the ticket gate of Kintamani if you come from the south. After this turn is a very steep road downhill to the lake.

All this effort is paid off with spectacular view on the way down, even in bad misty weather uphill.

The restaurant has 2 private floating room, each can be used for around 10-15 person. Each of this room has a full view of the lake, the surrounding mountain range, and the peak of Mount Batur.

Other than the floating room, the restaurant has a bigger building for more people. The building in the center should hold up to 30 people. For those who like to enjoy the nice cool weather and breeze of the wind might choose the “Bale Bengong”.

The signature dish in this restaurant is Tilapia Fish, which is known as Nila Fish in local language. It is cooked with Kedisan sauce, created by the owner of the restaurant. The sauce is based on coconut oil, mixed with local spice and chilly. Even though mixed with chilly, the sauce is not so hot in your mouth. Other menu, which should complement the fish is Plecing Kangkung, another spicy dishes of water spinach mixed with chilly and peanut. We also ordered fried duck for our lunch.

Finish with your lunch? Order a cup of Balinese coffee, and sit on the chair, facing the huge lake and the mountain range. You might have few minutes of nap here.

The restaurant also provides water sport facility for you to enjoy, such as jet ski and banana boat.

Now, you love the place, and want to stay overnight, either to catch the beautiful sunrise, to wander to the neighboring villages, or maybe climb the Mount Batur? The restaurant provides 2 bungalows for visitors who would like to spend the night. The bungalows are located right next to the lake with nice view.

Among the neighboring villages, you might be interested to visit Trunyan. This village has a unique custom, in which that the corpse of the dead is not buried, but instead placed below a huge tree near the village. The corpse however, does not spread bad smell. It is said that the tree absorb all the smell. To reach the cemetery, you will need a boat, either from the nearby dock, or you can talk to the restaurant owner to use their boat

Pulaki Temple or Pura Pulaki is a Hindu shrine located in the hill bank and in front of the beautiful beach in north part of Bali. It is one of the biggest Hindu temples in Bali situated in the coastal side west part of Singaraja town or 1 hour drive to the west from the town. Pura Agung Pulaki, a large, dramatic temple only 25 meters from the sea, is located 30 km of Seririt (48 km west of Singaraja) near the grape-growing village of Banyupoh. This important temple commemorates the arrival of the Javanese saint-priest Nirartha to Bali in the early 16th century.

Pulaki Temple is a famous temple among the Hindu people in Bali located in Singaraja regency, north part of Bali.

Legend has it great village exist here, invisible for its temple. It said when Nirartha lived in Gelgel, he was forced to hide his daughter lest she abducted by the king. He finally brought her to this remote place, rendering it invisible to keep her safe. To this day, the people who occupy the visible village is known as gamang and are said to wonder the countryside.

Black stone gate will greet the pilgrims and visitors to this temple; this gate was built in 1983 and heralded with a great ceremony that need holy water from various places range from east Java in the west to Lombok in the east. At the far end in the right hand corner there is an eleven-tiered meru which is dedicated to the rice goddess Dewi Sri. On the left side is placed the third bale and which is believed to be the domicile of numerous different gods.

The complex of Pura Taman Ayun was built in the year 1637, during the reign of Raja Gusti Agung Anom. But it was considerably enlarged and given its present form in the year 1937. The tourist site is open 24 hours a day for the tourists to visit anytime of the day. The tourists can easily locate Pura Taman Ayun on the main road as one move to the east in Mengwi Village, Badung Regency. Nusa Lembongan (Nusa = Island) is one of three neighbouring islands of Bali, approximately 12 miles from south east Bali and 20 miles from Lombok. The other two (2) islands are Nusa Penida being the bigger and Nusa Ceningan being the smaller.
Nusa Lembongan is the most popular of the 3 islands across the Badung Strait (the others being Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida). The island is popular with surfers for the 3 breaks (Playgrounds, Shipwrecks and Lacerations), day cruise people and overnight tourists. Nusa Lembongan is only 4km long and no wider than 3km wide and takes 3-4 hours to walk around. There are motorbikes for hire in Jungkutbatu. The reefs are enjoyed also by scuba divers and the snorkeling is awesome.
Nusa Lembongan has several thousand locals, engaged in seaweed farming activities as well as serving tourist needs. Similarities to the Bukit Peninsula create a quiet environment, ideal for relaxation.

Nusa Lembongan is a pristine tropical island, its highest point is 50 meters above sea level. Lembongan has an average rainfall of approximately 1000 mm per year. Little temperature variation from 30 degrees Celsius occurs between the only two seasons this island experiences being the wet and the dry. The wet season is from December to February and the dry is from March to November. As it has only three months of rainfall, this island is dry for the remainder of the year. Little cultivation occurs, as almost 2/3 of the island is infertile. Seeding is normally done on the wet season and only corn, cassava and peanuts are farmed. Also found on the island are cashew nuts, mangoes and coconut. Fresh water is limited and most of the supply is derived from wells up to 60 meters deep.

Nusa Lembongan is located on the Wallace line. Sir Alfred Wallace, a historic naturalist who conducted extensive studies of this area, determined the Wallace line. The Wallace line is still recognised as a biological division between Asia and Australia/Pacific. Many species of bird, animal and flora indigenous to Australia are not found West of this line, as the flora and fauna on the west ‘Asian’ side are not found to the east of this line. The ocean currents that funnel their way between these islands are rich in macrobiotic life that support abundant coral and fish life in shallow waters surrounding these islands.

•Getting to Nusa Lembongan:
Public boats from Sanur beach, leaving daily at 8am and 10am (90 minute one-way, 35,000rp). Coming back the boats leave at 7.30am from Jungutbatu.

Perama does a shuttle from Sanur, leaving at 10.30am and returning at 8.30am, for 50,000rp. It is possible to charter a private boat for 300,000rp. Tanah Lot is a famous rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali. It is home of a famous pilgrimage temple, the Pura Tanah Lot and a popular picture motiv for tourists.

It is also called Tanah Let which means ancient land and also Tanah Lod, which means the land to the south.

Tanah Lot means "Land in the Middle of the sea" in Balinese language. The temple sits on a huge offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

Tanah Lot is said to be the work of the 15th century priest Nirartha. The story goes that during his travels along the south coast he saw the rock-island's beautiful setting and rested there. Some fishermen saw him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine on the rock for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods.

The Tanah Lot temple was then built and has been an important part of Balinese mythological history for centuries. The temple is one of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. It was said that each of the sea temples was to be within eyesight of the next so that they formed a chain along the south-western coast.

At the base of the rocky island, poisonous sea snakes are believed to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders. There is said to be one giant snake which also protects the temple. It is believed that this snake was created from Nirartha’s scarf when he established the island.
The temple Pura Tanah Lot, simple in its construction, is dramatic in its ocean-front location and is one of the main temples in the worship of Balinese gods.
Tanah Lot has a long history in the world of tourism.The temple itself is built on a small promontory which is only accessible at low tide.During high water the rock takes on the appearance of a large boat at sea, such is its shape.

Nyepi - a day to make and keep the balance of nature.

Westerners open the New Year in revelry, however, in contrast, the Balinese open their New Year in silence. This is called Nyepi Day, the Balinese day of Silence, which falls on the day following the dark moon of the spring equinox, and opens a new year of the Saka Hindu era which began in 78 A.D.Nyepi is a day to make and keep the balance of nature.

Balinese use many different calendar systems. They have adopted the Gregorian calendar for business and government purposes. But for the endless procession of holy days, temple anniversaries, celebrations, sacred dances, building houses, wedding ceremonies, death and cremation processes and other activities that define Balinese life, they have two calendar systems. The first is the Pawukon (from the word Wuku which means week) and Sasih (which is means month. One is Pawukon system, a 210-day cycle that divided into ten separate week system. The other one is Saka Calendar, a lunar calendar that originally from South India and brought to Indonesia around 465 AD. One Saka year has 12 month and each month ends on a new moon. The Saka Year is 78 years behind the Gregorian calendar. The calendar begins on the first day of the 10th lunar month or ends on the new moon of 9th month. It usually falls on March or April on Gregorian Calendar. To mark the New Saka Year, Balinese celebrates a Nyepi Day.

The main purpose of the Nyepi Day ceremonies is to pray to the God (Hyang Widhi Wasa), wish that HE to clean the universe (bhuwana agung) as well as the 'universe" within men (bhuwana alit). Based on the history of its birth of Saka Year, Nyepi Day also means to be a momentum to increase genuine solidarity and tolerance between people, accept the differences and similarity as natural factor of life and put them in a balance proportion so they can be in a positive side of life. We do not to fight each other because our differences.

The lead upto Nyepi day is as follows:

* Melasti or Mekiyis or Melis (three days before Nyepi)
Melasti is meant to clean the pratima or arca or pralingga (statue), with symbols that help to concentrate the mind in order to become closer to God. The ceremony is aimed to clean all nature and its content, and also to take the Amerta (the source for eternal life) from the ocean or other water resources (ie lake, river, etc). Three days before Nyepi, all the effigies of the Gods from all the village temples are taken to the river in long and colourful ceremonies. There, they have are bathed by the Neptune of the Balinese Lord, the God Baruna, before being taken back home to their shrines.
* Tawur Kesanga (the day before Nyepi)
Exactly one day before Nyepi, all villages in Bali hold a large exorcism ceremony at the main village cross road, the meeting place of demons. They usually make Ogoh-ogoh (the fantastic monsters or evil spirits or the Butha Kala made of bamboo) for carnival purposes. The Ogoh-ogoh monsters symbolize the evil spirits surrounding our environment which have to be got rid of from our lives . The carnivals themselves are held all over Bali following sunset. Bleganjur, a Balinese gamelan music accompanies the procession. Some are giants taken from classical Balinese lore. All have fangs, bulging eyes and scary hair and are illuminated by torches.The procession is usually organised by the Seka Teruna, the youth organisation of Banjar. When Ogoh-ogoh is being played by the Seka Teruna, everyone enjoys the carnival. In order to make a harmonic relation between human being and God, human and human, and human and their environments, Tawur Kesanga is performed in every level of society, from the people's house. In the evening, the Hindus celebrating Ngerupuk, start making noises and light burning torches and set fire to the Ogoh-ogoh in order to get the Bhuta Kala, evil spirits, out of our lives.
* Nyepi
On Nyepi day itself, every street is quiet - there are nobody doing their normal daily activities. There is usually Pecalangs (traditional Balinese security man) who controls and checks for street security. Pecalang wear a black uniform and a Udeng or Destar (a Balinese traditional "hat" that is usually used in ceremony). The Pecalangs main task is not only to control the security of the street but also to stop any activities that disturb Nyepi. No traffic is allowed, not only cars but also people, who have to stay in their own houses. Light is kept to a minimum or not at all, the radio or TV is turned down and, of course, no one works. Even love making, this ultimate activity of all leisure times, is not supposed to take place, nor even attempted. The whole day is simply filled with the barking of a few dogs, the shrill of insect and is a simple long quiet day in the calendar of this otherwise hectic island. On Nyepi the world expected to be clean and everything starts anew, with Man showing his symbolic control over himself and the "force" of the World, hence the mandatory religious control.

* Ngembak Geni (the day after Nyepi)
Ngembak is the day when Catur Berata Penyepian is over and Hindus societies usually visit to forgive each other and doing the Dharma Canthi. Dharma Canthi are activities of reading Sloka, Kekidung, Kekawin, etc.(ancient scripts containing songs and lyrics).

From the religious and philosophy point of view, Nyepi is meant to be a day of self introspection to decide on values, eg humanity, love, patience, kindness, etc., that should kept forever. Balinese Hindus have many kind of celebrations (some sacred days) but Nyepi is, perhaps the most important of the island's religious days and the prohibitions are taken seriously, particularly in villages outside of Bali's southern tourist belt. Hotels are exempt from Nyepi's rigorous practices but streets outside will be closed to both pedestrians and vehicles (except for airport shuttles or emergency vehicles) and village wardens (Pecalang) will be posted to keep people off the beach. So wherever you happen to be staying on Nyepi Day in Bali, this will be a good day to spend indoors. Indeed Nyepi day has made Bali a unique island.

Practical Info for visitors
To witness the Melasti procession, it is best to be around the beach either in Kuta, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Sanur and others. Ask people at your hotel which part of the beach that usually use for the Melasti near by your hotel and when they usually held the procession. If you happen already on the road and see people dress in white and yellow on a parade, just follow them. Please dress properly with sarong, sash and shirt. Should you are on the beach sunbathing with your bikini and the procession pass by you please kindly change your bikini with proper cloth or stay away for a while. It is just too much contrast, you with your bikini sunbathing, and one meter away Balinese with traditional cloth perform a serious religious ceremony.

Most likely each village will make at least one Ogoh-ogoh, the giant doll, and this particular thing will amazed you a lot. Do drive around in the morning of the day before Nyepi when the Ogoh-Ogoh will usually placed side of the road. It is a great picture time for the scary face of the Ogoh-Ogoh. The actual procession of the Ogoh-Ogoh will be held around sunset so make sure you come back with your vehicle before that if you do not want to get stuck behind the procession. It is wiser and easier to witness the procession near by your hotel by foot. In some main town like Sanur, Kuta, Denpasar, Ubud and others, there are contest for the best Ogoh-Ogoh. .

Should you be in Bali or first arrive in Bali on the juncture of Nyepi Day, you must take the subsequent orders into account:
The silence begins at 5 a.m. of March 21st and the next 24 hours.The airport will be totally closed on March 21st, so there will be neither arrival nor departure in the airport on that day. All connecting airports around the globe have been informed about it in advance. If you take surface trip, you should not plan your arrival in Bali on March 21st, there is no activity in the bus terminal and most importantly there will be no traffic on that day in the whole Bali Island.

You should stay inside your house/hotel. Do not go out of the house/hotel. Should you need food or anything to buy, do it on the previous day because on Nyepi Day all shops do not open. Since all activities throughout the island are paused during the Nyepi Day, put your plan before or ahead. Should you want to make a light or play the music, keep it minimum, no light and sounds are allowed.Don't make any noise while you are at home/hotel.

There will be local officer on duty to ensure everybody including visitors obey the prohibitions. Some exceptional are made only for hospital, emergency situation and family with very young babies. If you experience any emergency situation please report to the hotel staff or manager on duty to obtain proper permission.
