Learn the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in our BJJ Adult Fundamentals Class. This class will teach you everything that you need to know in order to to be proficient in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. You will learn the techniques and skill sets that will prepare you for randori (wrestling) and in real life if confronted by an assailant.

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Adult Fundamentals classes are held on Mondays and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:30PM & also on Fridays from 6:30-7:30PM.

Our kids BJJ Beginner Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at or around the same time, depending on your child's age, making it super convenient for the whole family to come train at our school at the same time. Mom's or Dads not interested in BJJ can take a Kickboxing Fitness Class upstairs from 5:30-6:30PM Mondays and Wednesdays or a Kettlebell Fitness Class from 5:30-6PM.

Second Location Grand Opening May 1st, 2015

Mr. Gary, owner of Baltimore Martial Arts & Fitness, is having another children’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Camp this Summer. His two boys, Bryce age 8 & Tristan age 6, are the first two registrants.

Our Kids Jiu-jitsu Camp will include an intensive week of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training combined with activities and games that are fun for the kids.

Most of our activities will be held at our facility, however we may schedule some off site field trips to destinations like the Patapsco State Park & other fun places (see the video below).

This Summer our camp will include a field trip to the nearby Patapsco Valley State Park for nature hiking and exploring!  Mr. Gary Berger, owner of Baltimore Martial Arts, will be the camp leader and coordinator. We are proud to announce that Baltimore Martial Arts & Fitness is opening a second martial arts and fitness school in Elkridge, Maryland. Our grand opening is scheduled for May 1st, 2015. We are giving this second location the name Groundgame.

Groundgame will specialize in offering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, kettlebells & fitness kickboxing though we plan to also add Muay Thai Kickboxing & MMA in the near future.

Our kettlebell program in Catonsville will be moving to our Elkridge location and we are expanding our class schedule accordingly. Our kettlebell head instructor,  Danyelle Berger, will be teaching 2-3 days per week.

Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at Groundgame is truly our specialty and is unrivaled. Led by 3X World Champion & 5X Pan American Champion and 3rd Degree Brazilian Black Belt, Denilson Pimenta, Groundgame is an international hub for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and world class BJJ athletes. Brazilians come to Groundgame to train, teach and compete in World Class tournaments. We will be offering BJJ classes for adults and children of all ages and skill levels.

The same popular kickboxing fitness program that we teach in our Catonsville location will also be offered at Groundgame. Owner and black belt instructor, Gary Berger, will be spearheading the kickboxing fitness program.

Baltimore Martial Arts is looking forward to having a big year in 2015 for BJJ and MMA. There are several up and coming new MMA fighters that have scheduled fights in the next couple of months. Veteran fighter Brandon Johnson has a a match set up too! Make sure you guys check with Herb Severn and Charles Gamble to get dates and locations. We should do our best to travel with and support our fighters. Maybe we can get a special MMA fight shirt for these events. In 2014 we learned so much from Master Pimenta and Jhony Fernando from GFTeam. Master Pimenta is coming back February 20th. Matheus Gonzaga is a purple belt from the main GFTeam school in Brazil, the same school that Master Pimenta and Rodolfo Vierra train at and will be with us until June. Metheus is also a IBJJF World Champion Bronze Medalist!

We had great seminars from Master Pimenta, Renato Tavares and Roli Delgado. Roli's seminar was just mind blowing and if you missed it you missed it! However, you can bet that we will be seeing Roli again soon and next time he's going to come a little early and give us some MMA training.

Going forward, I'd like to get more of our members involved with BJJ competition. Adults and kids! Competing will make your jiu jitsu better and will be heavily considered towards your belt and stripe promotions. Mihai has been teaching a special kids competition class alone. He could really use some help. If you are available to help him please let him know. We are trying to organize a teaching schedule for the competition team and your involvement is much appreciated.

We have added some changes to our class schedule notably more beginner and fundamentals classes. The fundamentals class is for complete newbies and will be run by Shadeed with my assistance. The beginner classes are really drills classes that are good for anyone.

White Belt Class

We have White Belt - Beginner's Classes on Mondays & Wednesdays 5:30-6:30PM & Saturdays from 1-2PM. Classes are taught by BJJ Black Belt Gary Berger. Professor Berger's style of teaching emphasizes repetition and practice and includes high percentage moves that are essential to leaning and becoming proficient at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There is no live wrestling (rolling) in this class.

New Students Orientation & Fundamentals Class

This class is perfect for complete beginners and is designed to prepare you for our White Belt Beginner's class &/or our regularly scheduled BJJ classes. You will learn the Basics of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as Jiu Jitsu Self Defense. This BJJ fundamentals class is offered on Tuesdays 5:30-6:30PM and Sundays 11AM -Noon.

Open Mat

Baltimore Martial Arts has BJJ Open Mat on Sundays 5PM hosted by GFTeam World Champion Bronze Medalist, Matheus Gonzaga, and Mihai Petrisor. There is no charge for this training! Non members are welcome! - A signed liability form is required.

BJJ Etiquette

BJJ Etiquette is important to understand and to follow. The etiquette that we follow is the same that most BJJ associations follow. This will serve you well wherever you go, however there are some difference that the Brazilians follow in Brazil. It is customary for any non black belt to approach each and every black belt on the mat and bow and shake the black belt's hand before doing anything else. Some Brazilians do this for every student on the mat not just for the black belts. Those that understand this etiquette take notice of those that do not honor this tradition.

Roli Delgado is an expert in leg locks and trains World Champions. Leg Locks are can fit into any martial arts system or style including Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do etc..

Leg Locks are the Equalizer and have been used extensively to beat top level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters and grapplers for almost a century.

In 1951 a man by the name of Oswaldo Fadda challenged Helio Gracie and his school to a competition. Helio and his students lost 19 out of 20 matches! Witnesses say that most of the matches were won with Leg Locks!

Pre-register for this event online and pay only $50. Also pre-registrants are invited to train for FREE the Friday night before the seminar. Instructors or school owner who bring two or more student registrants get in for FREE!

The seminar will be held at Baltimore Martial Arts & Fitness in Catonsville, Maryland.

Master Pimenta will be giving a seminar - Saturday June 7th at 1:30pm - Gi and no Gi at Baltimore Martial Arts Academy, Inc. All experience levels are welcome! After the seminar Master Denilson Pimenta will be rolling. Everyone is welcome to stay, watch and roll! You might be one of the lucky ones to roll with a word champion!!!

The schedule for the seminar will be: Introductions, 90 minutes of gi techniques and optional rolling. Then we will be taking a 50 minutes break to re-hydrate and refuel in order to continue with another 90 minutes of no-gi techniques and optional rolling.

World Champion - Master Denilson Pimenta is a third degree black belt and one of the top competitors in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s featherweight division (Peso Pena – 70kg/154lbs). He is also part of the prestigious Grappling Fight Team (GFT) from Brazil.
