Keeping in Touch

An individual’s high school years and the relationships formed during those years are the basis for future relationships and also an important part of their life. Many students don’t realize how easily they can become separated from even their closest friends. College, military, marriage and work opportunities can all create great physical distances between friends.

Unfortunately, and most often unintentionally, this gap slowly turns into the great divide and contact is slowly lost. Maintaining contact takes effort and some planning prior to graduation. Without this effort, friends can lose touch and wind up only seeing each other at high school reunions.

Graduating classes most often have an assigned group of people to be in charge of reunions. This committee will be responsible for collecting and maintaining contact information for graduates in order to invite them to the class reunions.

However, most friends would prefer to stay in touch more often than every five or ten years. Even though they are friends and think they will always be in touch, they should still be proactive and have methods of communication in the event that life takes them on extreme opposite paths and they lose that communication.

Crossing the Great Divide

In the past there were only three basic means of communication, in person, on the telephone or by postal mail. These processes could easily be disrupted by unforeseen circumstances: death, divorce, name changes due to marriage and others.

Finding lost contacts during those times, before technology advances, was close to impossible. If mail forwarding was not used or had expired or the phone number was unlisted chances were that it would take a private investigator to find lost contacts.

Technology has changed that and now crossing the great divide of distance and even time lapses is not impossibility. Chances are high that all graduating students today have an email address, even if they don’t own a computer. School and library access allows anyone to set up an email address on sites like Gmail and Yahoo. This one piece of information can be all that is necessary to have lifelong contact.

Be Proactive

The key to remaining in contact with friends is being proactive prior to graduation. Students should take steps prior to graduation to make sure they have contact information. Some good ideas that could be used include:

Exchange email addresses. In addition to making sure the reunion committee has addresses, exchange them with each other. It is also a good idea to establish a web email that doesn’t change. Often, moving means changing email addresses, particularly if the email account is associated with a cable or phone company.
Facebook Accounts: Encourage class members to set up Facebook accounts. The profile section asks for school information and is an excellent way of locating friends should other contact information be lost.
Web Site: Create a web page for the graduating class that includes a forum. Class members can connect and keep in touch via the web page. There are many free website hosts on the Internet and once it’s established it doesn’t have to be updated. The forum could be for contact information updates.
MyYearbook.com. Ask classmates to join MyYearbook.com. This website is specifically designed for keeping classmates connected.
Standard Address/Phone Information: Exchange standard address and phone information. Even though it will likely change, it is good to have just in case. Also, cell phones don’t often change numbers unless the individual requests a change.
Family: Close friends usually know someone in each other’s family or inner circle. Let that person know should contact information change or become lost. They can then relay the message or even update contact information themselves.

After Graduation

After graduation make every effort to stay in touch with close friends. Even though lifestyle may change and things that were once a commonality may go away, the feelings friends share don’t change. An occasional email or letter to say “hi” is enough to keep the communication lines open. Keep a calendar of special dates, like birthdays and send a card. Even something that minute shows that the person is being thought about and is a considerate gesture.

Down the Road

It’s not uncommon years down the road to reflect back on high school years and wonder what happened to so-and-so, its normal. What is sad is to look back and be regretful that contact was lost. Keep in touch as often as possible to the friends made in high school; after all, in one way or another, they helped form the person in the mirror.

Laarni Lozada, Mary Grace Pama, Eugenio Meliton, Jean Diaz, etc..Do they ring a bell?
They were once a wanna-bes but now proved that dreams are just a 'hardwork' away. And yeah, they're Bambad High School alumni.

Thinkin like your world starts and ends only on ur farm-filled small barrio? like being 'SOMEBODY' one day is just a fairytale and only meant for sleeping? Well don't just be a wanna be.
You can be what you wanna be if only you will enliven the dreams that you're having.

Way back my high school years, i was just one of those dreamers who thought i can never the 'one' that i wanna be someday. I thought dreams were just meant for sleeping and money is the sole access to it. And i started to think that I, Analou Monajan will just be a part of 'frustration' history.

Lemme share a story with you. My high school years, well i would consider it a disaster, contrary to what they call it 'the best school year'. I partly enjoyed it. The rest of the moment? Discriminating and ridiculous. It depicts so much of my clumsiness, not to mention how some of my classmates bullied me and my bestfriend, Mary Grace. All those years, i've been thinking why do they treat us like shit. They made us feel like we dun belong to their 'circle of pretty, famous and richy circle of friends'. We don't argue 'bout that and we dun really care if they're all that. My bestfriend and i would just think that "yeah you're famous and we're not, now what?!".
Reminiscing how they're putting us into ridicule, making fun of our ugliness really shakes me. Those scenarious only added up to my disappointments specially when our high school year's fast pacing and graduation day's fast approaching. I've been hearing them telling bout their college plans. Like they're goin to Ateneo de Davao University, in Manila and other exclusive universities in famous places. I couldn't do anything but to get envy and say "yeah, good for you buddies"..."me, my family dun have plans yet..". Oh well, i just kept quiet coz i've nothing to share. And I thought, "my future ends here, if there's one, it's sure dim".

High school days' over, another school-life's yet to come. And i was wondering if all the graduates are going to college. I felt self-pity thinking that i could only be the one who have no plans for college yet. Oh my, ama loser. But with God's grace, i was able to go to. But entering college doesnt' guarantee a sure future. Countless struggles and perplexes were in to put you down and test your endeavor.

Well im not a graduate yet. Still have a sem to go.

Meanwhile...
Laarni Lozada, today's famous singer and a big dreamer of the worldwide-streaming and popular PBB had caught the attention not only of our Alma Mater BAmbad High School but of the whole Sultan Kudarat municipality. She's now being looked up for being brave and determined to sail and win the world. I know she was once one of us, wanting to be someone someday. Now look, she's just proven that a dream isn't a miracle that seemed impossible but it's something which only requires determination and hardwork. And take this, WE DRIVE OUR DREAMS. It's up to us if we'll make it happen or not.

Well same to those whom i heard are now on their way to success. Like mentioned above.

See, dreams doesnt bound only on our minds. It isn't illusion nor fiction. Mostly not impossible. I understand that we're all having doubts achieving it. It's true, dreams are hard to get. But let not barriers remain to be barriers. Specially if it talks bout money, no don't let it hinder your plans. Buddy, if you're really determined, nothing and no one will let you down. Just dont lose sight of your dreams. But before you prove to others what you've got, prove it to yourself first. They wouldn't believe in you if you don't believe in yourself anyway.

So go, live your dreams. Be the one that you've been wanting to be.
Let no one stop you from taking the center-stage.:)

April 15, 2008.. Nagkadto si Rexy Emanig dire sa Davao, kag natabuan gid nga dire man si Sheila Mei Tabanao kag Jean Diaz. Nice moment and bonding! After five years, imagine nagkita-kita kami liwat! Yepey ang saya-saya! Ang istorya daw wala sang katapusan.

Ahay..pero dali lng to sya.. Nagkaon lang kami sa Penongs Barbeque sa may Sta Ana Ave. kag naglagaw-lagaw sa Peoples Park. Kelangan beh ni Rexy mag lakat sa boarding house sang iya kuya(si Roggie Emanig) kay may curfew daw abi asta lang 9:00 pm amo to daw bitin gid.. Si Sheila naman kag Ako need man magpuli sang temprano kay may ara pa kami duty pagka aga.

Chika-chika lang kami about sa past kag sa mga natabo sa amon after college. Good to know that Freddie Vidal(BS in Criminology) graduated as Comlaude in SMIT Tacurong. Sarah Jane Dionson and Mannie Felongco are the new teachers of the batch, Nikki Carol Asuncion working in COA Sultan Kudarat, Irish Jade Dohina fresh graduate of DSC the future programmer, Jean Diaz is currenlty working in Eversun Software Phil Corporation as link builder, Janice Berbaño, Annie Agsalona and Muriel Floro are working in Tacurong Fit Mart. Sheila Mei Tabanao is regular employee of Reisan's Mktg here in Davao City. Anna Gracielle Padios and Marlou Andrew Buendicho are the future nurses. Analou Monajan fresh graduate of BS Mass Com. Rexy Emanig future Police, Roggie Emanig is a regular employee of Toyota Davao, Brandy Barrometro the future Army,.
