Cool iPhone Apps for Toddlers: Paper Town Friends

You know that a kids iPhone app is pretty cool when you look around surreptitiously to see if anyone can see you playing it. Yes that would be me…

Anyway Paper Town Friends is a visual crafty delight. It’s a dressing up game done to wonderful collage effect.

The creation of graphic designer and illustrator Robin Ronsenthal who used to be the art director for Martha Stewart Kids magazine, this is a digital burst of wholesome cool!

Your child chooses between six friends to dress and then they pull up the clothing type from the right hand menu and then scroll intuitively through a selection, for example of tops, and then tap on their selection to dress their animal pal. As an aside the little Lacoste tops look super cute as do the Mary Jane shoes and Croc style shoes. They can also save pictures of their dressed up friends to your camera roll. The menu for saving and moving back and forth between characters isn’t as intuitive as it could be but in the way that toddlers do, Saria, 3, has found her own solution which is coming out of the app and going back in.

I like to imagine Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) is an avid reader of Bambino Goodies, that her fingers drum on the keyboard as she looks at the latest must have toddler products…

Mini Shopaholic is the latest release in the long running Shopaholic series written by Sophie Kinsella. Becky has returned two years after the birth of her daughter, Minnie, and is now facing hard times as the banks collapse. Worst of all she makes a promise not to buy any more clothes for herself until she has worn everything in her wardrobe at least three times. As usual Becky gets herself into one or two tight corners and invents a series of ever more elaborate cover stories to get herself out. Will she manage to pull off her big surprise in the end or will it end up a hopeless disaster?

Completely unable to stop myself from reading, I have read it over the weekend and can say it is a Shopaholic classic. From the very beginning the familiar shopping compulsions had me in stitches and Becky’s unique sense of drama doesn’t fail to suck you in. Exciting to the last page with one or two big surprises thrown in it is this season’s must read.

I’m a major fan of their coats which give plenty of style bang for your affordable buck and tend to cover off lots of different styles and have a good variety in colour. We’ve bought several Zara coats for the kids and we can confirm that they’re high quality making them great for handing down. Here are just ten of our favourites:

3. Husky Coat. Another staple for their autumn winter collection, this years colours are navy and crimson. Quilted and lined for warmth, they look supercute on and I love the embroidered loveheart on the pocket. From size 3-6 to 24-36 months. 4. Double Breasted Fleece Coat. We have a strong appreciation for anyone that can make fleece look bang on military trend. From size 6-9 to 24-36 months. £29.99

Olli Ella Nursing Chairs

Inspiration: Red, White and Blue

Finding inspiration for boys’ rooms seems to be harder than girls’ somehow. So when I saw this gorgeously styled room on stylist Marie Nichols’ blog Whole Lotta Lovely I was instantly inspired by the simplicity of the colour scheme.

By limiting the palette to three colours this room has a real unity in its appearance. The white nicely dilutes the two stronger colours and the red highlights stop the blue from feeling overwhelming. In terms of livability I think it has scope for growth and won’t look babyish by the time your son is starting school.

If you want to get the look start with the wallpaper, this is Ferm Living’s Traffic Jam paper which you can get from Little Baby Company and the matching cushion from Cloudberry Living. Look for white in your furniture and curtains then add smaller dashes of red with cushions, storage and toys.

My Friendly Lunchbox

If there is one memory of packed lunches which remains from my childhood it is the faint taste of plastic and banana which tainted the food. Frustrated by leaking containers and a poor selection of BPA, PVC and phthalate free lunch products on the market, Mama Anna set about finding out what the rest of the world had to offer. Realising that there was a gap in the UK market for a website offering safe, leak-proof and waste free products for packed lunches Anna founded My Friendly Lunchbox.

My Friendly Lunchbox has everything you need to pack a lunch. There are lunch bags, boxes, containers, sandwich wrappers and water bottles. All of the products are free from BPA, PVC and phthalates. Everything has been tested to ensure it is leak-proof and practical and above all reduces waste. We were sent some of the products to check out and I have to say we were higly impressed.

Having previously relied on a series of variously sized tubs and pots to house Milla’s playgroup lunch inside her bag we are now in love with the Easy Lunchbox. The Easy Lunchbox (above) is a compartmentalised box which is the perfect size to fit any number of lunch combinations inside. It comes in a set of four (which is handy for those like me who are always behind on washing up) and costs £14.50 for a set. Their wrappers are ingenious and completely do away with the need for cling film or tin foil in lunch boxes. Milla has found them easy to fold and seal so if your child wants to save some for later they shouldn’t have a problem. Their range of Onya Bottles come in two sizes and have a range of lids you can buy the right kind for your child. Of course they will need something to carry their lunch in and keep it cool and My Friendly Lunchbox have a nice selection of lunch bags. The Easy Lunchbox bags are a little larger than regular insulated lunch bags and come in a range of colours. Their Crocodile Creek range are closer to traditional school lunchboxes and without a doubt Kids Konserve wins on style.
