Lulabird is a hot new brand created by design conscious Mamas Louise and Rachel. They have created a range of retro inspired characters which will appeal to both children and parents alike. Their characters adorn a collection of clocks and wall art made from eco-friendly sustainable birch plywood. Having received a little box of delights from Lulabird yesterday I can tell you that they are even more gorgeous than they look on the screen. As soon as we began to open the package the smell of the wood wafted out (accompanied by Monty’s squeals of “Oooh, oh wow!”) Not only do they smell sublime but they are fabulously tactile. The images seem to almost float above the wood which certainly makes them even more beautiful to look at. Luckily for us Lulabird have more products in development and I for one can’t wait to see what they create next.

Finger Printing Art Set

Tamielle Kids Handkerchiefs

We’ve been having a major nose blowing fest in the BG household due to all manner of colds and bugs. Saria’s now old enough that we’re trying to instil the whole covering your mouth when you splutter and blowing your nose concept to great amusement. Should you want to take a step up from soft tissues or too big muslins, it turns out that the forgotten handkerchief is still alive and well. Ethical label Tamielle designs a range of cute handkerchiefs which are made in a Bulgarian workshop that supports disadvantaged women. £12.50 for a pack of three with various printed motif’s, there is also a vast range of handkerchiefs for ‘big people’, with many featuring embroidery detail.

Love It Love It Love It

What a name for a shop! Love It Love It Love It is a brand spanking new online 0 – 5 clothing boutique where everything on offer is saturated in glorious colour. It is officially opening the doors on Sunday (21st March 2010) but you can browse now! The initial line up has some cute outfits for the coming Summer.

I’m loving the nature prints from Duns Sweden (top left) the whole collection has a really folksy feel as well as being made from organic cotton. There are dresses which grow into tops from Bambino favourite Sophie4Sophie (bottom centre) and Red Thread Design (top right) a Canadian designer who has used some of my favourite Anna Maria Horner fabrics in this collection. You will also find wonderfully playful clothing from Lipfish (top centre) and gorgeous graphics from Glug (bottom right). I am really keen on the vests from Zee Spot (bottom left) – after two babies I can safely say that long and short sleeved vests in every colour imaginable are like gold dust not to mention the fact that they are organic too.

It is safe to say that I will be shopping here and can’t wait to see what they get in next!

Big Pencils for Small Hands

Both of the kids (even 11 month old Nia) love drawing and I’m on a constant hunt for sturdy art materials. The most sturdy crayons we own are little pyramid crayons from Habitat that the bambino, Saria, hustled me for on a shopping trip last summer. A fiver, but they are the most resilient and seem indestructible. That’s why I like the sound of these chubby pencils – Big Pencils for Small Hands. Nursery Stories for Toddlers

There are some stories which thread their way around the Globe and through time. Connecting generations and cultures nursery stories are the bread and butter of family story telling. I recently reached for a collection of stories a friend had given to my daughter and read what turned out to be a very graphic and blood-thirsty version of The Three Little Pigs. After inspecting the edition more closely it quickly became clear it was not suitable for a two year old!

Here are two collections of nursery stories which won’t leave your children scarred for life. My First Nursery Stories by Tony Ross and Yummy: My Favourite Nursery Stories by Lucy Cousins both have superb illustrations and a good range of the classics – Goldilocks, The Gingerbread Man, Little Red Riding Hood, The Billy Goats Gruff, Henny Penny and The Three Little Pigs. There is no escaping characters getting eaten but they don’t dwell on the gore!

Happy Hopperz

I recently took both of the kids to The Baby Show at the Excel Centre (never again, took me a couple of days to recover) and Saria went nuts when she saw the stand full of Happy Hopperz, a range of bouncy animals made from phthalate free PVC. I literally had to beg her to leave as she had a ride of nearly every single one on the stand!

They actually look ‘louder’ in the photos than they do in the flesh and the idea is that your child can increase their balance control and co-ordination, plus strengthen their core muscles whilst having fun. The ears are there to be gripped for support plus they can be inflated to various sizes depending on age.

Available in a host of designs including dogs, a panda, horses, bulls, and the cows and elephant shown, they’re also in a several colours. Tactile and flexible so will no doubt be cuddled as well. I shouldn’t be surprised that she loved them as I spent a lot of time on my space hopper when I was a kid!

The age recommended is age 3 although Saria, a very tall 33.5 months and had no problem using it.

Moomin Bags

Despite my efforts to leave the house free from enough gear to last a week if we’re out for the day there is no escaping the need for a bag for our swag. As we’re moving beyond the baby stage I’m looking for a nice bag I can swing onto my shoulder as we set out for the day.

As soon as I saw these funky Moomin bags I was in lust. I love the blue and red colouring on the Moomin Day Bag (left) and the details are so whimsical. It measures 35 x 23 x 10 cm and has two external pockets. The Moomin Weekend Bag (right) is a little bigger so if you really do like to have the kitchen sink *just in case* then at 54 x 35 x 18 cm you may just be able to squeeze it in. I am really keen on the all-over print and the bright red straps I think the whole effect transforms it from a character product into something altogether more desirable.
