Microsoft has introduced a preview newest operating system, Windows 8. Good news for users of Windows 7 that want to upgrade. Microsoft said users of Windows 7 does not need a higher hardware specification to run Windows 8.

"Windows 8 will be able to run on multiple machines because it has system requirements that equal or lower than Windows 7," said Michael Angiulo from Microsoft.

Windows 8 itself is said not only intended for a computer, but also focus developed for tablet devices. Interface Windows 8 is quite similar to Windows OS Phone 7, which optimized for touch navigation.

In addition to having the hardware requirements are similar to Windows 7, Windows 8 is claimed to have no trouble running Windows applications 7. All this seems expected to make the adoption of Windows 8 will grow rapidly as users of Windows 7 does not need the hassle.

Windows 8 plan would be released in 2012 and is expected to Microsoft's success as its predecessors. Similarly, as reported by PCMag and quoted on Saturday
Copy the artifact was then on display in the Cairo Museum and attracted the attention of researchers. Since then, several artifacts have been found again. This discovery is considered important by the Egyptian government that they create a committee to examine it further.

Because of its characteristics are shaped like that, these artifacts came to be called as a Saqqara Bird or Saqqara Glider.

In 1991, Dr.Messiha published a paper titled "African Experimental Aeronautic: A 2000 Years Old Model Glider" which contains his theory about the Saqqara Bird. He believes that this artifact is an indisputable proof that the Ancient Egyptians had aerodynamic technology.

Dr.Messiha theory quite interesting to note because this theory supports the supposition that in the past our ancestors had actually had a pretty high tech.

THE COSO ARTEFACT

During 1961 three rock collectors; Wallace Lane, Virginia Maxey and Mike Mikesell were hunting for geodes near the town of Olancha in the state of California when they discovered a potential specimen that would stimulate more than five decades of controversy. While cutting through the geode they discovered that instead of the normal cluster of crystals they expected to find they discovered a white ceramic cylinder that had a central iron core that was surrounded by an accretion of rust coloured stone. A faint hexagonal discolouring of the surrounding material could also be made out with the naked eye. According to Ms. Maxey the artifact was examined by an experienced geologist who stated that material surrounding the cylinder was at least 500,000 years old.

1920's technology in the form of a spark plug encased in a 500,000 year old stone geode. This is the Coso Artifact - real mystery or mistaken analysis?

X-rays of the Coso Artifact revealed further metal components that several independent experts have identified as parts of a 1920’s spark plug or something similar. If the item is a genuine “Out of Place Artifact” then it throws our understanding of history into total disarray. Today the Coso Artifact has been largely discredited for three reasons. Firstly, iron objects that are exposed to rain and the correct type of sandy soil or clay can quite quickly build a concretion of rust that appears very much like sandstone. Secondly, the artifact has disappeared. It may still be in the possession of one of the surviving discoverers but according to various sources they are no longer prepared to discuss the matter. Thirdly, the identity of the geologist who dated the Coso Artifact has never been revealed. We’ve only included this item in our list because of the persistent interest in the discovery and the ongoing conspiracy theory that the Item was confiscated by the US Government and a gagging order placed on those that found it.

THE BAALBEK MEGALITHS

Located at Baalbek in Lebanon are the largest megalithic stones ever carved from the “living” rock of a quarry. Often referred to as Cyclopean, they range in size and mass but the most sizeable is estimated to weigh nearly 1,300 tons and lies unused. It seems that thousands of years ago they were shaped into gigantic rectangles and moved over a kilometer to be used in the early construction of the Baalbek Archeological Complex which was expanded during the Roman period when the town was known as Heliopolis (City of the Sun). They are not merely foundation stones as it is quite clear that they rest on a deeper layer of smaller, but still very large, blocks. These massive units each weighing approximately 750 tons were built into the western retaining wall of the plaza and are known as the Trilithon.

The precision with which these megaliths have been carved is incredible and would be nearly impossible to achieve even today. How they were moved and placed within the construction of the greater Baal-Jupiter (Zeus) Temple plaza remains unexplained. Over the years various experiments have taken place that show that while it is possible for vast numbers of men with levers and rollers to move large building stones of up to 300 tons for short distances these megaliths are more than twice as large. The size of the largest megalith and the fact that moving it even with modern technology would be extremely difficult does suggest that the ancient civilizations may well have had more advanced technology than we currently believe. Still, what that technology was and how it worked will have to remain a mystery for now.

ABYDOS CARVINGS

Located approximately 450 kilometres south of Cairo in Egypt is the very ancient city-complex of Abydos. Believed by many to be one of the most important historical sites relating to ancient Egypt it is also the location of a set of carvings that have caused significant controversy amongst archeologists and historians. Within the Temple of Seti the 1st (Seti I) you can find the outer Hypostyle Hall and on one of the lintels you can find a series of carvings that look very much like helicopters and futuristic space craft. The Helicopter is particularly recognizable and this has led to questions being raised about how this can possibly exist. Naturally, every UFO enthusiast or believer in a once technologically advanced Atlantean civilization has pointed to these images as proof of their theories.

The Antikythera Mechanism

They found calmer seas and dropped anchor in unfamiliar waters near the tiny island of Antikythera, located southeast of Kythera. Hoping to find sponges, they decided to dive but had no luck. What they did find however, was a badly decomposed, encrusted hull of a trading ship that sank around 80 B.C. – just before the Cleopatra era and Imperial Rome.

This was the first ever discovery of an ancient ship, so the government of Greece sent the divers back on a Navy ship to dive 140 feet back down to the wreck. They dove for a year, recovering statues, amphora’s, and other artifacts from the ship wreck. Keep in mind, this was done before scuba tanks and breathing apparatus were invented. It took a total of nine minutes to get from the surface of the ocean down to the dive site. By the time they were done, one diver had died and two others permanently crippled.

Of all the artifacts recovered, one item in particular drew the interest of scholars. A badly corroded set of brass gears encased in a wooden frame. The face of the mechanism had been crushed by the weight of the vessel but the rest of it was coated with a hard calcareous deposit and metallic salts, preserving much of the former shape of the bronze during the almost 2,000 years it lay submerged.

The fragments of this mechanism lay in a museum until 1971 when Yale historian Derek de Solla Price viewed the remnants of this device using gamma rays, enabling him to see through the build up of calcareous in which the gears were embedded. His findings forces us to re-examine what is believed about technology in the ancient world, among others things. Needless to say, there is no trace of anything like it until 1000 A.D.

Price’s monumental study shows “the box contained 32 gears, accurately assembled in a box that reproduced the motion of the sun and moon against the background of fixed stars with a differential giving the relative position and the phases of the moon.” His report goes on to say, “the careful counting of teeth and the way the gears are meshed showed that the gear ratios could be associated with astronomical and cylindrical parameters and allowed the almost complete description of how the device must have functioned.”

Price attempted to reconstruct the mechanism and theorized that the user would rotate a shaft and get a readout on the dials that would determine the progressions of both the lunar months and synodic months (the period between consecutive new months) over four year cycles.

In 2002, Allan George Bromley, an Australian computer scientist, along with Michael Wright, built another reconstruction model of the mechanism. Wright built a reconstruction model using better X-ray images taken by Bromley. They challenged Price’s theory stating his findings were not entirely accurate. Bromley and Wright believe both back dials have different functions and also that there was a mechanism under the front dial that was lost. This model alludes to the fact that the Antikythera Mechanism was actually an orrery, a device mentioned in ancient literature that showed the positions of the heavenly bodies using a large clockwork mechanism.

The Antikythera Mechanism is currently being studied by scientists from Cardiff University, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, X-Tek Systems UK, and Hewlett-Packard as part of the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project.

The Antikythera Mechanism is probably the most complicated piece of ancient machinery ever discovered.

Baghdad Battery

The Baghdad Battery, also known as the Parthian Battery, is a curious artifact that was discovered near Baghdad, Iraq. There is something around a dozen of these artifacts and their purpose is a matter of controversy. However, the most prominent theory regarding their purpose is quite astounding. It is thought by many that the Baghdad Battery is an ancient battery. The amazing thing about this possibility is that if it is in fact, a battery, that would mean that batteries were invented roughly 2,000 years before modern history suggests electricity was discovered by humans.

Dendera Light

The "Dendera light" comprises three stone reliefs (one single and a double representation) in the Hathor temple at the Dendera Temple complex located in Egypt. Badly made or non-standard cabling is a foolish thing to spend time on - do it once and do it right. This guide may help you to forget cabling problems and spend time time doing really useful things - like pondering the meaning of life!

NOTES

LAN cables are generically called UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and are identified with a category rating. When installing new cable, unless there is a very good reason not to, you should be using category 5, 5e or 6 UTP which is rated for both 10 and 100mb LAN operation.

You CAN use 100base-TX wiring with a 10base-T network (but not always the other way round). ALWAYS use 100baseTX/T4 wiring standards.

If you are using category 5, 5e or 6 wiring EVERYWHERE you can use the 100base-TX standard (this only uses 2 pairs , 4 conductors). Most of the information below assumes you are using category 5, 5e or 6 cables.

If you are using category 3 or 4 cables with 100M LANs ANYWHERE you MUST use the 100Base-T4 standard and this has ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS documented throughout (it uses all 4 pairs, 8 conductors). LAN connections/pinouts are defined by IEEE 802.3u.

Maximum LAN cable runs are 100 meters (~300ft).

Crossed and Straight cables - when to use them

The following diagram shows the Normal use of Crossed and Straight cables (see also the notes below).

Notes

We show Straight cables as BLUE and Crossed as RED. That is our convention the cable color can be anything you choose or more likely the vendor decides.

To avoid the need for Crossed cables many vendors provide UPLINK ports on Hubs or Switches - these are specially designed to allow the use of a STRAIGHT cable when connecting back-to-back Hubs or Switches. Read the manufacturers documentation carefully.

Category 5(e) (UTP) colour coding table

The following table shows the normal colour coding for category 5 cables (4 pair) based on the two standards supported by TIA/EIA.

100base-T Crossed cable (PC to PC or HUB to HUB)

Crossed cables are used to connect PCs to one other PC or to connect a HUB to a HUB. Crossed cable are sometimes called Crossover, Patch or Jumper cables. If your connection is PC to HUB you MUST use a Straight cable.

The following description shows the wiring at both ends (male RJ45 connectors) of the crossed cable. Note: The diagrams below shows crossing of all 4 pairs and allows for the use of cat3/4 cables. Pairs 4,5 and 7,8 do not NEED to be crossed in 100base-TX wiring. See notes below.

NOTES:

All our crossed wiring is now done to the 100base-T4 spec which you can use with 10base-T networks - but NOT necessarily the other way around.

Most commercial cables these days seem not to cross pairs 4,5 and 7,8. If there is no cat3/4 wiring in the network this perfectly acceptable.

Gigabit Ethernet uses all 4 pairs so requires the full 4 pair (8 conductor) cross configuration (shown above).

If you are using Power-over-Ethernet (802.3af) then Mode A or Alternative A uses pairs 1,2 and 3,6 for both signals and power. Mode B or alternative B uses 4,5 and 7,8 to carry power. In all cases the spec calls for polarity insensitive implementation (using a diode bridge) and therefore crossing or not crossing pairs 4,5 and 7,8 will have no effect.

RJ45 Connector Pin Numbering

NOTES:

The RJ45 connector is the critical connection always use the highest quality connectors you can afford. The most common cause of connection faults is bad connectors. There are different connectors for stranded and solid cable. Sometimes you have to work quite hard to make sure you are getting the right type. Spend the time to make sure you have the right connector type. If you use the wrong type of connector the cable may or may not work initially but it will almost certainly fail very quickly.

Make and test practice cables until you get it right every time - especially before you destroy a cable you just spend 2 hours fitting.

When cutting the exterior cover of the cable be very careful not to cut the insulation cover of the conductors since this can cause shorts - bottom line: the cable won't work.

Expose a maximum of 1 inch of individual conductors when preparing the cable for connection.

Line up all the conductors according to the wiring standard you are using.

Measure the cable and trim the conductor ends so they are are all the same length and no individual conductor wire is visible outside the plastic cover of the RJ45 connector.

Carefully slide the prepared cable into the RJ45 connector making sure the end of the conductors reaches the end of the RJ45 connector.

Using the crimp tool make the connection using one firm squeeze operation.

Test the cable before fitting if possible.
