SF Ferry Building

Saturday January 21st was the 34th World Wide Sketchcrawl, and after missing the last event it was nice to get back out there and spend the day sketching. I got to see some friends I hadn't seen in a few months and the Ferry Building is always wonderful to visit. I pretty much spent the day in front of the Blue Bottle kiosk outside since there's always a line and plenty of

SOPA/PIPA

So, this is awesome! I've been working with my beautiful and talented friend, Nina LaCour, author of The Disenchantments, on fictional tour posters for the band, The Disenchantments. Pretty soon the posters wil be available for purchase but this is the first look at one of the posters in the series in the world premiere trailer for the book that was posted on MTV.com.

Sketchbook: SF-NY, NY-SF

Welcome to 2012! Before the Holidays my wife and I went to New York for two days and I tried to make the most of the short trip. I tried to set up a few meetings but who knew people would be so busy just before Christmas, and during finals week for those who were teaching. My wife was there for business so that left me with both days completely open.

Happy Holidays!

I've waited long enough to show my page in the Sketchtravel book, and since it's published I think it's time to put it on here for all to see. I had a wonderful time at CTNX and would like to thank Dice and everyone at Stuart Ng for a great signing. I was completely humbled, as I always am in these situations, to be sitting next to some of my heroes signing a book with them.

Sketchtravel Signing at CTNX!

This show is a virtual juggernaut of animation industry talent that gives a peek at what goes on creatively after the office hours end.

Just so I don't leave anyone thinking that I've forgotten about the blog, here are some treats I've been working on in my sketchbooks. A little departure from my observational drawings but fun nonetheless. I got this idea a long time ago and finally fleshed it out in my sketchbook last week. It's a pretty simple idea and a quick pass of color but I think it has a nice feeling. Sometimes you just need to put your ideas on paper and hopefully this little experiment is a success.
I'll be in two group shows in March with a host of superb artists so stay tuned for more info on those. Here's a page from my sketchbook that surely alludes to work to come in the future. March fourth and fifth are going to be noteworthy dates so keep them in mind. I'll be showing new work at a couple of shows that I'm excited to be a part of. More details about that soon. I have a finished piece I'll be showing off in the next day or two so be sure to come back for more. As I begin this new sketchbook, I look at the empty pages and see new adventures that will form the next chapter in my life. There may be a few days missed here and there, but the general plot will maintain it's depth, and push the story forward. I sketch because it defines what I am.
