Official Note from The City of Rome

Starting 1st january 2011, the City of Rome is requesting the payment of a new tax from tourists.

The official name is “Tassa di Soggiorno per Turisti”.

From now on all accomodation facilities will be asking their clients an additional 2 euros per day for maximum 10 days. In 4 and 5 star hotels that will be 3 euros.

Hopefully this won’t stop you from coming to the Eternal City sooner or later, and if that day is now just send us a note or book today your fabulous stay!

Once again STOMP returns to Rome at the Teatro Olimpico from the 9th all the way to the 17th of November 2010.

For those of you still unaware of what STOMP is, we are looking at a unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy, a sort of wild dancing at the rythm of music created using everyday items such as garbage cans, basins, brushes, brooms, tires and who knows what else they will come up with this time.

It is an absolute “must do” experience as soon as life gives you the chance to visit with them.

The STOMP dance troupe was created in Brighton, UK, officially in the summer of 1991 by Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell, as a result of ten years of collaboration.

Today the Google Logo has one of it’s changes on and it’s to celebrate 140 years of Rome the Capital of Italy.

The 20th September 1870 the “Bersaglieri Troupes” entered the City of Rome through Porta Pia, under the command of General Luigi Cadorna. Actually they broke through a breach in the “Mura Aureliane”, near Porta Pia.

At this point Pope Pio or Pius IX declared himself prisoner of The Vatican, and Rome became part of the Reign of Italy and was declared Capital. The day before Capital was Florence. 

One of the symbols of Rome is the SPQR Badge or Stem. “Senatus PopulusQue Romanus” – “Senate and Roman People”. The yellow color of the letters represents the sun that gives light, prudentia et signoria. The red color represents the god of battles “Marte” for who follows him will obtain power and victory.

This stem was officially approved on the 26th August 1927.

Nowadays if you ask among youngsters the meaning of SPQR you will probably hear Sono Pazzi Questi Romani (These Romans Are Crazy) which actually came to life thanks to the italian translation of the french cartoon Asterix.

Once again a world known artist that we all know about, Mr Elton John, will be in Rome on the 19th and 20th September at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, near Stadio Flaminio, to entertain and to be entertained by the hottest of world audiences: the Romans.

It is well known by many artists coming to the eternal city that our audiences really take part in the show soooo much that they all seem insane!!!

Mr Elton John has sold over 450 million records in his career. He has been actively involved in the fight against AIDS since the 1980′s and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1998.

Elton will be accompanied in his two night show at the Auditorium by his old friend Ray Cooper, a top percussionist from Britain that played during his career with the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bryan Ferry, Garfunkel and many more.

Another great article to share with you about visiting Rome..

…24 hours really make it a bit tight, but for a lot of folks it would just be a great day anyways so I decided to share with you this article written by Michayla Sullivan on the Venere Travel Blog. The link to her article is at the end of this post.

The city of Rome is filled with world-famous historic sites. One could spend a week in this ancient city and still not see everything it has to offer

However, there are a few places in Rome that are considered “must-see” attractions due to their high-profile artistic, historical, and cultural values. They are some of the world’s ultimate sites to be seen and are on every world traveler’s checklist.

Ideally, you should plan to spend at least two days in Rome in order to see all of its main sites properly. Unfortunately, sometimes circumstances allow a tourist a limited amount of time to enjoy the city. Given Rome’s historical significance in world history, though, it is important to make the most of the time you have there. With careful planning, though, Rome’s biggest attractions can be seen in only one day and one night.

8:30 AM: The Roman Forum

Arrive at the Roman Forum entrance on Via dei Fori Imperiali as it opens and buy your combined ticket for the Forum and the Colosseum and wander around the Roman Forum for a while. The ticket line at the Forum entrance is always much shorter than the one at the Colosseum, so it saves a lot of time to purchase tickets there.

Many people opt to skip seeing the Forum in favor of heading directly to the Colosseum, but the Forum is full of history and is awe-inspiring in its own right. However, the Forum is, at first glance, a jumble of rocks and columns, and there are no museum-like plaques to speak of, so take a decent guide-book with you to make sure you leave with a decent understanding of what you have seen. You also might consider picking up some pastries from an Italian café on the way there and having breakfast while sitting on top of the remains of a 2,000 year old building.

9:30 AM: The Colosseum

Leave the Roman Forum from the exit closest to the Colosseum on the East side of the Forum. On your way between the Forum and the Colosseum, make sure you note the The Arch of Constantine to your right. Built in the early 300s, it is well-preserved for its age, and its size is nothing short of impressive. Like the Forum, it is often underappreciated due to its proximity to the Colosseum.

Now onto the main attraction: The Colosseum. Go to the entrance, and make sure not to get into the line to purchase tickets; you already have yours from the Forum. Go inside the Colosseum and wander around a bit.

10:30 AM: Getting to the Vatican

Leave the Colosseum and head across the street to either get a taxi, or if you would like to save some money, go to the Metro stop. The Roman metro system is reliable, clean, and easy to use. In this case, taking a taxi will not get you to the Vatican much faster than the metro will.

When you arrive to the Vatican area, head to the Vatican walls by Piazza del Risorgimento. There, you will find about a dozen people selling guided tours to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica on behalf of several fly-by-night tour companies. While they have unorthodox advertising methods, these tour companies are generally a good value for the amount of knowledge they impart, and most importantly, will allow you to skip the line to get into the Vatican Museums, which can be hours long at the high point of tourist season. The price will be about 40 euros per person. Ask when their tours are, and choose a company that has a tour in the early afternoon (usually around noon or 1 PM). Be sure to double-check as to whether the tour company has permission to skip the Vatican Museum lines.

While you are waiting for your tour to start, poke around the tourist shops in the area and go eat some lunch at one of the nearby restaurants. If you are really pressed for time before the tour, most Roman cafes have sandwhiches to go. Your tour should start at 1:00 PM at the latest, since the Vatican Museums close at 4:00 PM.

4:00 PM: View of Castle San Angelo

You should be done with your tour around 4:00 PM, if not earlier. It all depends on which company you used and what time you started your tour.

Walk directly East from St. Peter’s Square up the Via della Conciliazione. As you are walking, be sure to turn around every now and then for the picture-perfect view of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Veer off to the right onto Via San Pio X and go onto Ponte Vittorio Emanuele, one of Rome’s many bridges over the Tiber River. This particular bridge is a work of art in its own right, and almost everyone that crosses it overlooks the statues that decorate it. However, the real goal here is to see the impressive view of Castle San Angelo, the ancient fortress that has also served as a tomb, dungeons, and papal refuge throughout its long history. Unfortunately, there is not enough time to go inside, so the view from the outside will have to suffice.

5:00 PM: The Pantheon

Hail a taxi and direct the driver to go to the Pantheon. While there are bus routes that could get your there, I do not recommend using the Roman bus system if you have a limited amount of time in the city. The buses are notorious for never being on schedule, and it is often difficult to know at which stop you should get off. A taxi ride should set you back no more than 10 euros.

After you see the Pantheon, you can do the rest of the itinerary at your own pace, since the rest of the attractions do not have closing times you have to worry about.

6:00 PM: The Trevi Fountain

Make your way from the Pantheon to the Trevi Fountain (the street you want to take is to your left when you are facing the front of the Pantheon). It is about a ten minute walk, although you might want to poke around the souvenir stands that line the pedestrian street leading up to the Trevi Fountain.

Once you get to the fountain, spend some time looking at it. You might consider getting some pre-dinner gelato from one of the nearby gelaterias to eat while you sit on the steps of the fountain.

7:00 PM: Piazza Navona and Dinner

From the Trevi Fountain, walk the 20 minutes to Piazza Navona. Wander around the piazza a bit and perhaps buy some art from one of the many artists who sell their wares there. Find a place to have dinner. There are dozens of little restaurants to choose from in the area.

9:00 PM: The Spanish Steps

When you are finished with dinner, find your way to any of the main roads near Piazza Navona and hail a taxi. Direct the driver to go to the Spanish Steps. When you arrive, find yourself a seat on the steps and absorb the lively atmosphere around you. Bring a bottle of wine or a few beers with you and drink at your leisure- sitting and drinking (in moderation) on the Steps is a fairly popular night-time activity during the summer.

When you have finished your drinks and seen your fill of the nightlife at the Spanish Steps, you can head back to your hotel room to collapse after your busy day.

sorto alle spalle del GRA e che circonda il nuovo centro commerciale
che porta lo stesso nome e che comprende IKEA e LEROY MERLIN.

Siamo circondati dai quartieri di Monte Sacro, Vigne Nuove, Talenti
e Nuovo Salario.

Nelle vicinanze ci sono anche il centro commerciale DIMA Carrefour,
il Centro Fitness Virgin di Talenti, il Parco Naturale della
Marcigliana,
gli Studi Televisi RAI Nomentano (ex Studi DEAR), il Circolo Ippico
Tor San Giovanni, l’Istituto Buddista Italiano Soka Gakkai.

Siamo anche molto vicini all’Ospedale Sant’Andrea, la Casa di Cura
Villa Domelia, la Casa di Cura Villa Valeria, la Casa di Cura Villa
Salaria e l’Ospedale Sandro Pertini.

Siamo collegati direttamente con la Stazione Termini grazie alla

Come raggiungerci con i mezzi pubblici.

Dalla Stazione Termini

Prendete l’86 in Piazza dei Cinquecento, la piazza antistante la
Stazione Termini. L’86 si trova nella Corsia N. Potete chiedere
informazioni appena usciti dalla stazione ai moltissimi impiegati
delle linee ATAC, lo società che gestisce il trasporto pubblico
a Roma.

Una volta a bordo mettetevi comodi e godetevi il viaggio. Scenderete
al capolinea in Via Vincenzo Marmorale. Una volta scesi noterete una
chiesa proprio di fianco al capolinea. Dietro la chiesa è Via Carlo
Muscetta ed il terzo palazzo a sinistra è il 180.

Dalla Stazione Tiburtina

Prendete l’autobus della linea 211 e chiedete informazioni per
scendere a Piazza Sempione. A questo punto potete prendere l’86
in direzione Cinquina-Bufalotta e scendete al capolinea seguendo
le istruzioni come descritte sopra.

Da Fiumicino Aeroporto Leonardo Da Vinci

Seguite le indicazioni per la Stazione del treno che si trova di
al Terminal degli Arrivi e Partenze.

A questo punto avete 2 opzioni

Il treno “Leonardo Express” fino alla Stazione Termini e poi l’86.

Il treno FM1 fino alla Stazione Tiburtina, il 211 fino a Piazza
Sempione e poi l’86 in direzione Cinquina-Bufalotta come descritto
sopra.

Da Ciampino Aeroporto

Prendete il Bus Navetta che vi porta alla Stazione Metro Anagnina,
prendete la Metro A fino alla Stazione Termini e quindi l’86 come
descritto sopra.
Oppure scegliete di prendere il Bus Navetta fino alla Stazione
Termini e quindi l’86 come descritto sopra.

Come raggiungerci con la macchina

Da ovunque arriviate ossia da uno degli aeroporti dove avete
noleggiato
un’auto, oppure da altre città direttamente, arrivando a Roma avrete
la possibilità di imboccare il (GRA) Grande Raccordo Anulare.
Sceglietelo quindi nella direzione della Roma-Firenze (RM-FI) visto
che la nostra uscita è subito dopo, o subito prima, a seconda da dove
state arrivando.
Seguite sempre le indicazioni per la RM-FI ed una volta nelle
vicinanze seguite i cartelli per Bufalotta. Seguendo le indicazioni
vi troverete a passare sotto il GRA per poi dover svoltare
immediatamente sulla destra. Vi troverete su una piccola rotonda
sulle quale prenderete la prima a destra. Subito dovrete svoltare
a sinistra prima del semaforo.
Continuate dritti su questa strada che è Via di Tor San Giovanni
e al secondo semaforo svoltate a sinistra in Via Emanuele Tesauro.
In fondo alla strada svoltate a sinstra e imboccate la prima a
destra che è Via Vincenzo Marmorale.
In fondo troverete Via Carlo Muscetta e l’ultimo palazzo a sinistra
è la vostra destinazione.
Scriverlo è molto più complicato che farlo.

Termini attraversando zone commerciali e quartieri di Roma durante il tragitto.

Se state arrivando in macchina a Roma per le vostre vacanze, siamo situati
strategicamente vicino al Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) vicini all’uscita
dell’autostrada Roma-Firenze, e sarà molto semplice trovarci e partire da qui

Finalmente stiamo per aprire le porte al Bed and Breakfast di mia madre Patrizia nel quartiere Bufalotta vicinissimo al Grande Raccordo Anulare di Roma.

Lo abbiamo chiamato Bed and Breakfast Bus 86 perché il capolinea di questo autobus è a due passi da casa.

Il palazzo è di nuova costruzione, Patrizia ci abita da circa un anno.

2 delle 3 stanze da letto sono dedicate agli ospiti, abbiamo una doppia con bagno in camera ed una singola con bagno condiviso con la padrona di casa.

Siamo in attesa dell’installazione della rete Internet con collegamento Wi-Fi per gli ospiti.

Le stanze hanno televisione ed aria condizionata.

Ormai manca pochissimo al via quindi teneteci d’occhio perché Patrizia ha intenzione di mettercela tutta per far sentire a casa i suoi futuri ospiti.
