Acclaimed Dublin born and LA based singer and multi instrumentalist Marc Carroll releases a new single, “Always”, on High Noon Recordings, Monday 13th July, 2009.

“Always”, with its haunting melody and heartbreaking lyrics is the lead single from Marc’s new album ‘Dust of Rumour’, released 6th July. Its uplifting refrains and beautiful repetition are reminiscent of pioneering Krautrock band Neu and Marc plays all the instruments on the track.

The new album, ‘Dust of Rumour’ is set to continue the critical acclaim that flowed following the release of Marc’s previous two albums, ‘Ten Of Swords’ (2003) and ‘World On A Wire’ (2005) and songs such as the exquisite “Against My Will” and the sun-drenched “You Just Might Be What I’ve Been Waiting For” show Marc’s timeless west-coast influenced songwriting.

MUZU.TV has teamed up with Marc Carroll to give you the chance to win 5 signed copies of the new album. Competition closes 14th July, 2009.

For full competition details just go to Marc Carroll TV on MUZU.TV

On August 4, 2009, Ramseur Records will release ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ by The Duke & The King, an album recorded in the the coldest Catskill winter, that shimmers with the light of memory and hope.

‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ features ten new songs, all co-written by The Duke (Simone Felice of The Felice Brothers) and The King (Robert Chicken Burke), and was recorded on a two-inch tape machine in Burke’s one-room, woodstove-heated cabin – affectionately known as The Chapel – in Woodstock, NY.

FREE download: “The Morning That I Get To Hell” MP3

The Duke & The King grew out of Simone Felice’s decision to take an extended break from The Felice Brothers at the end of 2008, after three years of non-stop touring.

He set to work on his third book, and began writing and recording with his longtime friend Burke, himself on leave from recent stints with George Clinton, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and film scoring work for acclaimed french director Cedric Klapisch.

The two holed up in splendid isolation at The Chapel with a cache of vintage instruments, and emerged with an album of inspired contradictions. Made in the depths of winter, ‘Gold’ feels sun-faded and warm. It emits a bucolic calm, yet was mixed and mastered in Brooklyn by hip hop legend Bassy Bob Brockmann (Notorious B.I.G.).

Fusing unlikely elements of blue-eyed soul, Topanga Canyon cool, and Marc Bolan-esque acoustic reverie, The Duke & The King sing of a time and place they can never return to, but will never forget.

The Duke & The King will tour extensively this summer and fall. Stay tuned for updates.

Super 400 is slated to hit the airwaves this month with their new single “Flashlight” from their forthcoming junior album. Denver, Colorado based Response Records is releasing the album in the September 15, 2009. ‘Sweet Fist’ will be manufactured and distributed through Rock Ridge Music with an exclusive license.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Response Records to distribute and promote Super 400″ , says Jason Spiewak, Rock Ridge Music. He goes on to say, “Sweet Fist” is a tremendous rock record, one that will please the band’s current fan base and surely make them new ones.”

Lifelong fans of the influential Memphis sounds of Stax Records and Big Star, Super 400 chose the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee to record their third album, ‘Sweet Fist’.

As much history museum as functioning studio, Ardent has captured the essence of such greats as Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top, Isaac Hayes and Big Star, to name a few. As the legends before them, they recorded the album entirely on tape, capturing most final cuts on the first take.

Hall of fame mastering guru Larry Nix, along with son Kevin, refurbished the one and only Stax Record Lathe that before being moved to Ardent, created the first copy and master for every Stax Record and later classic albums such as Led Zeppelin: III, Stevie Ray Vaughn: The Sky Is Crying and ZZ Top: Afterburner. Months of valuable time and unmentionable resources were spent to insure that the historical lathe made its’ return debut to cut the new Super 400 album. It can humbly be said that history has been made.

Adam Anderson, Response Records states, “The new album Sweet Fist marks a magnificent pinnacle in the sonic evolution of Super 400. Both powerful and soulful, the band took the analog Memphis sound and gave it a shot of adrenaline on this record.”

The band has become one of the most loyally followed rock bands in the Northeast, and the fan base is growing; last year’s national tours started a chain of bootleg recordings that have been traded and coveted around the world.

Back home, the Mayor of Troy, NY gave Super 400 their own official holiday, ‘Super 400 Day’, to recognize the band’s musical achievements as well as the love and support the city has shown for them.

Each of their completely unique performances evokes the raw, euphoric essence of Rock and Roll. Their upcoming release, ‘Sweet Fist’, truly reflects the light and dark of this new millennium; it unravels the tales of this modern world with an analog tongue rarely heard in the digital age.

Did you hear the one about the band who was actually two bands? Yeah, now I’ve been a Damned fan ever since I could spell my own name. Yes, I can remember the arguments about “New Rose” being the first ever punk single – or not – and when they split up and reformed. All this and it still wasn’t even the 80’s yet. I can recall seeing The Damned in many different places with various different members.

Then it was 1984 and I was sifting through the albums in Subway Records in Portsmouth underneath The Tricorn and I found this album. It was like a 1960’s soundtrack to some B movie, on the sleeve it said Naz Nomad And The Nightmares – ‘Give Daddy The Knife Cindy’. Well at that time in my life I was buying albums just out of interest, I mean if the cover looked good I would buy it and if I didn’t like it I could always take it back and change it.

But this album grabbed my imagination, so I bought it and took it home. After one play of the first track (”Nobody But Me” a Human Beinz cover) I knew straight away that this was The Damned being a bit cheeky again.

Yes, this album sparked a lot of conversation over late night beers around the country. You see on the actual record sleeve there was no mention of the band, Mr. Vanian or Mr. Scabbies or indeed Roman Jugg. They all had aliases. Like Dave was Naz Nomad and Roman Jugg was Sphinx Svenson etc. You could tell that this was The Damned by Dave Vanian’s trademark voice straight away, but it didn’t stop the arguments as to if it was just some session musicians who could sound like The Damned and where was Captain Sensible in all of this?

I Can’t Stand This Love Goodbye clip:

They even took this out on to the road and toured Naz Nomad & The Nightmares around the country starting on Saturday 30th April at The Greyhound in Fulham. I am gutted that I missed their live shows but here is a clip of them playing “Action Woman” back in 1989:

There are a lot of rock/folk stories out there and one that I’m a fan of is how B.B. King got to call his Gibson ES-335 Lucille.

It was the winter of 1949 in Twist, Arkansas. B.B. King had just rolled into town to play a gig at this old music hall. Now it was cold outside, and so the best and cheapest way to keep a building warm in those days was to use kerosene. Yeah a barrel and a half would do it. So people were partying, having a laugh and dancing when a fight broke out between two men. This scuffle knocked over the barrel of kerosene and the whole building went up. People were running for their lives as the building rapidly burnt to the ground. The only thing on B.B’s mind was his guitar. This was the tool of his trade, the only way he had of making a living. So he braved the flames and ran back into the burning building to rescue his guitar.

The next day Mr. King was to hear that two people had died in the fire that night and that a woman named Lucille was the reason for the fight that started the fire which ended their lives. B.B. King then named his Gibson and every other guitar after that “Lucille” just to remind himself not to ever do stupid things like running into burning buildings or fighting over women.

Orem, Utah’s The Used, who have been tantalizing fans by previewing new songs during the Bamboozle and Bamboozle Left Festivals and during recent headlining dates, are proud to announce the release of their fourth studio album, entitled ‘Artwork’, on September 1, 2009. Starting July 21st a deluxe pre-order package of the release will be available only at www.theused.net.

Buy Music:

The Used on amazon.com

Produced by Matt Squire, ‘Artwork’ is a raw collection of eleven songs that not so delicately teeter the line between being aggressively discordant and charmingly hooky.

The first single, “Blood On My Hands” premiered June 30th; it sold over five thousand copies in the first day and shot to #9 on the iTunes Alternative Chart.

The track, which guitarist Quinn Allman describes as the song that “sums up everything about The Used” hits radio July 14th.

“Blood On My Hands” is confined chaos, brutally thrashing one moment and proffering a pop-driven, sing-along chorus the next. “Empty With You,” a track frontman Bert McCracken says is “about feeling empty and lonely but as long as you have someone who can feel lonely with you then everything’s okay,” surges with passion and gripping honesty, while “Kissing You Goodbye” balances the album’s predilection for propulsive rage with its quieter, piano-driven exploration of what it means to have someone to lean on.

“This record is more sincere,” Allman says. “It’s got a sound more reminiscent of the first record. Lyrically, it completely engulfs you and makes you feel safe but it’s all about feeling alone and empty and knowing there’s always a light. If you’re frustrated that much it means you care that much. The lyrics carry you through the record and you’re right with Bert and where he’s at. The music isn’t showing off. It’s just being what it is. I think the fans will appreciate all that.”

“This record is about coming together,” McCracken adds. “Whether it’s through positivity or negativity, it’s about coming together through anything.”

‘Artwork’ encapsulates the past eight years of this hard-touring band, which has made the rounds of Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Projekt Revolution, Give It a Name, Reading, Leeds, and Taste of Chaos. The Used have sold more than two million albums in the U.S. Their previous release, 2007’s ‘Lies For the Liars’, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200.

CORNBURY FESTIVAL – THIS WEEKEND – JULY 11th & 12th

The UK’s most beautiful boutique festival continues its eclectic musical tradition as it announces the line up for its 6th glorious year.

With a fusion of indie pop Brit nominees Scouting for Girls and ‘Belle de Jour’ Imelda May, the stage is shared with inimitable girl group Sugababes and Chrissie Hynde’s legendery rock outfit The Pretenders.

“Cornbury is a unique experience in all manner of ways”, says promoter Hugh Phillimore. “We’re immensely proud of our musical diversity and family friendly ethos. Where else could you see The Damned and the Sugababes on one bill?”

The festival embraces the ‘something for everyone’ approach. From alt rockers The Magic Numbers and rising stars Teddy Thompson and Archangel, to the retro classic chic of Sharleen Spiteri, perfect pop from The Lightning Seeds and Fleetwood Mac founder, Peter Green, appearing in the UK for the 1st time in over four years, Cornbury attracts festival goers from all age ranges and with all manner of tastes.

Cornbury is about its beautiful Cotswold location, fantastic food, hot air balloons, the madness of the many morris dance pageant, children’s theatre workshops, great festival shops and a huge fairground all held together by a carefully selected spectrum of top music talent. Typically English – eccentric, eclectic and inclusive – a farmers’ market with a dancefloor, a county fayre with a rock ‘n’ roll twist indeed!

“The Most charming festival you will ever attend” – UNCUT

“Lush rolling countryside…champagne…VIP tents – I had a great time” – Dom Joly, THE INDEPENDENT

“Set in the natural bowl of the oak-strewn, verdant slopes of the Cornbury estate, it lays claim to the cleanest, cosiest and classiest fest that I have ever frequented” – MARIE CLAIRE

“Family friendly, with plenty of face-painting and sideshows to keep the kids happy” – THE OBSERVER

Fat Possum Records is proud to announce that the Heartless Bastards have confirmed a very impressive and exciting summer 2009 touring schedule.

The band recently finished their first tour overseas and are fresh off a powerfully memorable performance at Bonnaroo as well as some dates supporting Wilco; one look at their summer tour schedule proves 2009 is undoubtedly their year.

Next up for the Austin, TX-based quartet are three of this summer’s most high profile tours supporting Jenny Lewis, The Decemberists and The Avett Brothers, as well as being invited by Andrew Bird himself to open for him at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and festival performances at Lollapalooza, All Points West, Outside Lands and Austin City Limits.

Buy Music:

Heartless Bastards on amazon.com

Main Bastard Erika Wennnerstrom and her fantastic new backing band (Dave Colvin on drums, Jesse Ebaugh on bass and Mark Nathan on guitar) are touring in support of the critically acclaimed ‘The Mountain’, and garnering new fans and rave reviews at a feverish pace.

After the band’s set at SXSW this year, the New York Times exclaimed, “Wennerstrom took the stage and knocked everybody down,” while Details called her an “unstoppable frontwoman.” Rolling Stone hailed, “Wennerstrom finds a softer side on her band’s third album — but still finds time to howl like a ‘nads- free Robert Plant.”

The Decemberists‘ guitarist Chris Funk said, “It’s been a few years since I’ve had a voice on repeat in my mind. This voice seems to arrive in my ears while sound checking, often before the shows on a pre-show play list and after shows too — the songs are just perfect and the band has found their spots behind this incredible woman. A unique and enduring artist arrived into our world once again.”

Heartless Bastards recently had the opportunity to record their incendiary live set for the Austin City Limits TV show, which will air nationwide later this fall.

The episode pairs them with one of their favorite bands and musical influences, Sonic Youth, and includes a special guest appearance by good friend Alex Maas of The Black Angels recreating with Wennerstrom the classic June Carter and Johnny Cash duet on Tim Hardin’s “If I Were A Carpenter.”

FREE Download: “If I Were A Carpenter” by Sweet Tea

Wennerstrom and Maas (with a little help from Colvin and Ebaugh), started a side project called Sweet Tea.

Recorded earlier this year, Sweet Tea is their unique collaborative take on classic country and Fat Possum will release the first single digitally later in July, comprising the studio version of “If I Were A Carpenter,” and the Ray Price classic “Crazy Arms.”

A collector’s, limited edition white vinyl 7″ will be made available in both band’s websites and at live shows later in the year; it will hit stores nationwide Sept. 1, 2009.

Drummer, the new band featuring Patrick Carney, drummer for the critically acclaimed duo The Black Keys, is poised for the release of their debut album, ‘Feel Good Together’. The album is set for release September 29, 2009 on Carney’s label, Audio Eagle.

Carney, who plays bass for the group, joins up with four long time friends – all Ohio-based drummers – to bring the project to life.

Drummer is rounded out by: Jamie Stillman of Teeth of the Hydra, formerly of Party of Helicopters (guitar), Jon Finley of Beaten Awake, also formerly of Party of Helicopters (vocals, guitar), Stephen Clements of Houseguest and Six Parts Seven (keys, vocals) and Greg Boyd of Ghostman and Sandman (drums).

The band will embark on a fall tour in support of the new album.

Drummer took shape in early 2009 with one goal in mind – to have a good time. Carney says of the band’s incarnation, “We started playing together in February and within two months, we had a whole record. We have all been friends for a long time and decided that our time would be better spent making music than making snowmen and watching YouTube.” ‘Feel Good Together’ was recorded and mixed in Akron, OH by Ben Vehorn (Love as Laughter) at his studio Tangerine Sound.

With his Black Keys bandmate Dan Auerbach, Carney has recorded five critically acclaimed full-length albums, beginning with 2002’s The Big Come Up. Feel Good Together arrives on the heels of The Black Keys’ 2008 album, Attack & Release, which debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #14, marking the band’s highest position to date. The album earned praise from The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times, which called it a “savage, bitter concoction built on a snarling punk-rock riff.”

Carney has also been busy with Audio Eagle, which has recently released material from the Royal Bangs and Other Girls.
