Sally Shapiro Releases Elsewhere LP May 28 on Paper Bag Records

Remixes From The Field, Little Boots, Nite Jewel and More

Swedish italo-disco pop duo Sally Shapiro has announced the release of their forthcoming Elsewhere LP, a curated collection of remixes taken from tracks off their critically-acclaimed third album, Somewhere Else, which features Canadian duo Electric Youth (from the Drive soundtrack), Anoraak, Le Prix and more.

Elsewhere includes remixes from The Field, Little Boots, Dan Lissvik (Studio), Nite Jewel, Young Galaxy, Henning Fürst of The Tough Alliance, and more, and is set for release May 28, 2013 on Paper Bag Records.

Shapiro recently released a charming new video for the track "If It Doesn't Rain."

The clip features the handy work of director Iris Beatrix, who edited footage of a Czech cartoon from 1953 so that the visual perfectly fit with the song's aesthetic.

As Sally and producer Johan Agebjörn put it, "We happened to watch this old Czech cartoon from the '50s and thought it would fit perfectly to 'If It Doesn't Rain ' - it has the same chilly feel and it asks the same question as the lyrics in the song: are they really made for each other? So we asked Beatrix, who earlier made fan videos of 'Hold Me So Tight','Spacer Woman From Mars' and 'Deeper Space Woman', if she could edit the cartoon to fit the song, and we are really happy with the results."

Receiving accolades from Pitchfork, Stereogum, The FADER, The Independent, Filter, OUT, Paste, Idolator, SPIN, Interview Magazine, Huffington Post, and much more, Somewhere Else breaks the synth-pop duo's silence as the first release since their 2009 full-length Guilty Pleasure. The melancholic harmonies and 80s disco feel are still present, but there are also indie pop influences (á la Belle & Sebastian), as well as touches of funk, IDM, trance, jazz and ambient.

In 2007, Paper Bag Records released Shapiro's debut, Disco Romance, a nostalgic trip back to romantic italo disco of 1984. The album was revered by the press, and was deemed one of Pitchfork's 'Top 50 albums of 2007.' The duo was subsequently remixed by Lindstrøm, Tensnake, Junior Boys, CFCF, and Juan MacLean.

Known for her shyness, Shapiro does not reveal her real name, will not even let Agebjörn into the studio when she sings, and has never performed her songs live.

"...heartbreaking lyrics underneath shades of jangling dream-pop." - Billboard

"...our go-to when needing to blow off steam and dance around our bedroom." - NYLON

"...if 'Somewhere Else' doesn't blow your legwarmers off, nothing will." - BUST

Elsewhere Tracklisting:

2. If It Doesn't Rain (Dan Lissvik Remix)

WARREN HAYNES DISCUSSES UPCOMING SYMPHONIC TOUR CELEBRATING JERRY GARCIA IN LIVE CHAT ON THURSDAY, MAY 23, 2013 VIA FACEBOOK

Haynes Announces Lineup Of Band That Will Join Him In Performances With Symphonies Across The U.S.

Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes Kicks Off Eight-City Summer Tour On June 18

On Thursday, May 23, 2013, GRAMMY®-winning vocalist/guitarist Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule) will chat with fans regarding his upcoming eight-city symphonic tour celebrating American musical icon Jerry Garcia.

The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes is a groundbreaking orchestral adventure - curated by the Garcia family - that will feature his storied original compositions as well as classic interpretations of timeless standards that were hallmarks of Garcia and the Grateful Dead's shows. The chat will take place at 4:00 pm ET on the Jerry Garcia Facebook page (link below).

"I'm very excited about doing these shows. We've chosen a very diverse list of songs from the extensive Jerry Garcia related catalog and in the true spirit of the original music will be leaving room for improvisation and approaching the symphonic arrangements from a non-traditional direction. We are also going to vary the setlists to some extent for fans that want to attend multiple shows," says Haynes, who brings an intimate knowledge of the material, having performed extensively with The Dead and Phil Lesh & Friends.

The premiere performance of the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes will take place on June 18, 2013 at Heinz Symphony Hall in Pittsburgh, PA. The outing will pair Haynes with some of the country's most respected symphonies, including The Boston Pops, the Colorado Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony. A band assembled especially for the tour will accompany Haynes at all eight concerts.

"The rhythm section will consist of Jeff Sipe on drums, who - aside from being an old friend - has worked a lot with Phil Lesh and Friends and was an original member of the Aquarium Rescue Unit, and bassist Lincoln Schleifer, who was in the Warren Haynes Band in the early 90's and who has worked with such artists as Donald Fagen and, most recently, Levon Helm," notes Haynes. "Alecia Chakour (Warren Haynes Band) and Jasmine Muhammad (Pittsburgh Opera) will be providing soulful background vocals reminiscent of the Jerry Garcia Band. This is a beautiful challenge for me and I'm honored to have been chosen as the first guest artist in what will hopefully become a continuing series."

The tour will include two performances at Davies Symphony Hall in Garcia's hometown of San Francisco - August 1 (Garcia's birthday) and August 2. It will conclude on August 4 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. See below for a full itinerary.

About Jerry Garcia:

Jerry Garcia (1942-1995) created an unparalleled legacy across the American landscape, most notably in his role as a founding member, singer, songwriter and lead guitarist of the Grateful Dead. Garcia's unmistakable guitar tone enchanted multitudes of "Deadheads" throughout the band's 30-year career and beyond. His work with the Jerry Garcia Band, Old and in the Way, Legion of Mary, Garcia/Grisman and projects with Merl Saunders only scratch at the surface of his musical influences as he set out to master the Great American Songbook. Unequivocally devoted to the craft of music, Garcia continues to inspire future generations through the body of work he has left behind and his creative spirit.

About Warren Haynes:

Grammy® Award-winning artist Warren Haynes is a member of three of the greatest live groups in rock history: The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead and his own Gov't Mule, which has sold more than two million song downloads from their own MuleTracks web site. Haynes, named as one of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" by Rolling Stone, has also released three solo albums and performed or recorded with such artists as Phil Lesh & Friends, James Hetfield, Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Matthews, Kid Rock and B.B. King.

The video marks the first time the band's singer/songwriter Zooey Deschanel has stepped behind the camera to direct; the result is an amalgamation of everything that makes She & Him so damn charming - an incredible chorus, choreography by fellow HelloGiggles founder Sophia Rossi, vintage dresses, M. Ward's genius guitar playing, and a whole lot of fun.

Says Deschanel about directing, "After 7 years and 4 albums with She & Him, I figured it was about time I took a crack at making a video for a song I wrote. The process was so much fun, and gave me a chance to give a nod to some of my favorite 60's musicals."

"I Could've Been Your Girl" is one of the highlights on the band's new album, Volume 3, out now on Merge Records. In Volume 3, they've created an effortlessly effervescent, bleached-out-in-the-sun pop record, featuring some of the most dynamic, complex songs Deschanel has ever written. The album allows for tempo shifts, disco grooves, string arrangements on multiple tracks, and horn flourishes that perfectly suit the She & Him sound.

Praise for Volume 3:

"…Volume 3 has an alluringly casual feel: Deschanel has a certain kind of charisma that allows a song to hang loosely but never fall apart….M. Ward's production is at once detailed and featherlight…Ward gives [songs] enough room to sway leisurely, as though a warm breeze is rustling through." - Pitchfork

"… Playful, soft, sunnily melancholy and springlike, its songs once again subsist on the strength of their own agreeability. Timelessness has long been key to She & Him's charm … led by a confident singer-songwriter who, on records and elsewhere, knows exactly what she's doing." - NPR's "First Listen"

"The lyrics throughout the album are dreamy and full of unrequited love…She & Him has a winner." - Associated Press

Everything Everything release "Don't Try" via RCA Victor on June 16th

Fresh off the back of their top 5 second album and previous single "Duet", Everything Everything have announced their new single "Don't Try" from the critically acclaimed full-length 'Arc'.

Released earlier this year, Arc has been widely praised, obtaining huge radio support from Radio 1, XFM and 6Music, a multitude of shows & festival bookings and a recent performance on Later With Jools Holland.

"Don't Try" is the band's summer offering ahead of a packed festival schedule including The Great Escape, Field Day, Latitude, Glastonbury and Isle of Wight. But still there appears to be no end to the demand on this exceptional homegrown band and their new album as they recently announced dates for a huge UK tour in October - and have now added 2 extra dates in both Manchester and London after selling out the original shows.

Singer Jonathan Higgs says, "Don't Try is about letting go of control of your emotions. It's a celebration of feeling, for good or for ill, and a plea to let it show."

"Another tour de force" **** Observer

"Everything Everything remain as dizzyingly inventive as ever" Q

"Arc's ambitions marches in step with its passion" Sunday Times Culture

NYC ARTIST MARLA MASE ANNOUNCES SUMMERSTAGE APPEARANCE

New York rock/crossover artist Marla Mase has confirmed that she and guitarist Tomás Doncker will be bringing her "Speak" show to Summerstage 2013, joining a lineup that includes The Zombies, Django Django, Dead Prez, Lianne la Havas and Rakim.

The CD 'Speak Deluxe' found Marla touring both China and Europe, being honored by Friends of the UN, and receiving top reviews from publications such as The Huffington Post, who said "her feisty message of peace will perhaps wake up the beast in all of us".

"Speak" is a multi-media concert and dance piece inspired by the songs of Marla Mase's acclaimed 2013 album, 'Speak Deluxe'.

Combining live music, spoken word, dance and visual imagery, Marla has teamed up with choreographer Adrienne Hurd, filmmaker James Jankiewicz, and director/producer Sara Berg (who directed A Brief Night Out, Marla's rock opera about a women going through a mid-life rock-n-roll crisis in 2012) for one of a kind show.

"Speak" presents a powerful portrayal of "the universal woman's" confinement, sexuality, body image, trauma, oppression and freedom, celebrating the raw reality of the human condition as expressed through the eyes, bodies, and voices of women. Through the expressive movements of a troupe of seven dancers, each of whom has a distinct voice and tale in the mini-stories, the dancers will explore the archetypes that make up the idea of what it means to be a modern woman.

The music, co-written by Marla Mase and Tomás Doncker is an integral part of "Speak" and features elements of Rock-n-Roll with World Beat, Punk, Funk, Electronica, Reggae and Soul and will be performed live at each performance with both Mase and The Tomás Doncker Band.

Marla Mase's "Speak" performance takes place on June 15, 2013 in Herbert Von King Park and August 17 at The East River Park. Both performances are free to the public.

Bio:

Marla Mase is a writer/performer/producer/singer/songwriter from New York City. She writes songs, plays, monologues, short stories, erotica, blogs, and poems. Marla is known for her provocative, raw performance style and intelligent lyrics and is regarded by her peers as being a true musical pioneer of our time. She is backed by the Tomás Doncker Band. Just off her first tour in China where she
was invited by the Friends of the UN to perform for UN GLOBAL PEACE DAY in Linzhou City, Marla was given an honorary 'Messenger of Peace' award for her visionary work as a songwriter and performing artist. Her fans span the globe.

Marla released the DELUXE Edition of her album SPEAK (Feb 28, 2013) which includes the 10 songs on the original 2010 album plus 6 new tracks including Piece of Peace, AnnaRexia (a reggae track featuring Garrison Hawk from Bill Laswell's Method of Defiance), and Bill Laswell's dubmix version of AnnaRexia. AnnaRexia is spearheading the StayImperfect Project or Love Your Butt Campaign, which Marla created to empower women to not only accept but love themselves and their bodies. Proceeds from AnnaRexia as well as emerging artist, Lael Summer's track, The Good Fight (whose EP Marla co-produced with Doncker) will go towards theprojectheal.org, a non-profit organization founded by two teenage eating disorder survivors, that raises scholarship money for girls whose families cannot afford to send them to treatment.

Her debut album, the rock opera, A Brief Night Out (BNO), tells the story of a woman, having an affair, breaking-down, obsessing on war and re-assessing her life. It is also the soundtrack to a theatrical version of the same story that has been performed in New York City with Broadway Veteran Martin Vidnovic playing all the male roles and also as a one-woman show directed by Sara Berg.

Marla's play, The Canarsie Line directed by Kathryn Rossetter, ran at The Bank Street Theatre to sold out audiences in 2002. Her play Man/Woman was work-shopped at the Abingdon Theatre in 2004.

Marla has her MA in writing and performance from NYU and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

Most importantly Marla is the mother to two beautiful souls.

Bear Mountain Release XO on May 21, 2013; Tour With Bloc Party + Festivals!

XO Out May 21st Via Last Gang Records

Set To Open For Bloc Party + Perform At A Number Of U.S. Festivals!

Vancouver, B.C.'s own electro-dance band Bear Mountain will be releasing their infectious debut album, XO, on May 21st, 2013 via Last Gang Records.

In addition, the band has announced that they will be hitting the road this month serving as direct support for Bloc Party, and will be performing at this year's Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Sasquatch Festival, Governor's Ball, Capitol Hill Block Party, and more. See full list of dates below!

Bear Mountain have created a fresh and captivating electro/dance gem in XO - blending syncopated bass lines, arpeggiated synth chords, live instrumentation, and mesmerizing vocals together to make a sound that's all their own. The band's approach to the traditional "indie-pop" genre pushes boundaries and redefines the genre as a whole.

Singer Ian Bevis explains, "A friend of ours best described our sound as 'a hopeful utopian future.' While we do put a range of emotions in our music, it's important that it always comes from the heart. We want the listener to feel that and to go to those places with us."

Live, Bear Mountain deliver magnetic performances that'll swoop you in right from the start. Billboard, who caught them at this year's SXSW gushed, "The fact they could catch so much attention … says something about the potential and staying power of their music."

From lush synth sounds and chopped vocal samples, to tropical drum beats and house-drenched kicks, XO manages to capture the feeling of the infinite and the impossible, all rolled into one.

"XO works within so many '80s tropes while hitting contemporary pop notes-and refusing to be defined by either." - Consequence Of Sound

"Congo showcases a nice build-up not like an avalanche, but like all the snow on a hill melted at once to slop down and water a big garden." - FADER

"Club-ready dance tracks, arena sized atmospherics, and an indie pop sensibility in the songwriting…it's a pretty great mix and sounds like it will be totally fun live." - Brooklyn Vegan

Ten-Time Grammy Award-Winning Legend George Benson Releases Tribute To Nat King Cole

George Benson - Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole

On June 10th 2013, the legendary George Benson, who turned 70 earlier this year, releases one of the most meaningful albums of his career: Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole.

Featuring heartfelt renditions of some of Cole's greatest songs, the album sees Benson backed by the 42-piece Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra and is complemented by duets with Tony Award winner Idina Menzel and rising star Judith Hill, and a special collaboration with multi-Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.

"I felt every moment of it" says Benson. "You can't put together a record like this without putting your heart into it. I got that from Nat King Cole. He put his heart into everything he did."

The careers of Benson and Cole share a similar arc, both establishing themselves first as highly respected instrumentalists before skyrocketing to crossover success once they began sharing their unforgettable voices with the world. Better known as a jazz pianist first, Nat King Cole's major breakthrough came in 1943 when he added his melting baritone voice to Straighten Up and Fly Right, coincidentally the same year of George Benson's birth.

Benson, who had a well-established career as one of the world's top jazz guitarists, made his major break in the pop world by singing This Masquerade and subsequently had the first jazz album to go platinum with Breezin'.

A dream project for Benson, this album is a love letter to Cole and a tribute in gratitude for his deep musical inspiration. It also demonstrates how uniquely suited Benson is to recreate and interpret these timeless treasures.

Highlights on the album include an adaptation of Nelson Riddle's arrangement of Just One of Those Things, with a signature Benson vocal/guitar scat solo, and Benson's reading of the original chart of Nature Boy, which he previously interpreted and made a pop hit in the late '70s.

The album also contains stunning duets with Idina Menzel on When I Fall In Love, and Judith Hill on Too Young, as well the incomparable trumpet work of Wynton Marsalis on a fresh new arrangement of Unforgettable.

George Benson will be embarking on a world tour in 2013.
