আড়িয়ল বিলে বিমানবন্দর নির্মাণের প্রতিবাদ কর্মসূচিতে বাধা দেয়ার কারণে বুধবার ঢাকা-মাওয়া সড়ক যে রণক্ষেত্রের রূপ নিল তার ষোলআনা দায় সরকারকেই নিতে হবে। ওইদিন রাজধানীর মুক্তাঙ্গনে আড়িয়ল বিল রক্ষা কমিটির বিক্ষোভ সমাবেশের কর্মসূচি ছিল। এ সমাবেশের আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল আড়িয়ল বিলে আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দর নির্মাণের সিদ্ধান্ত প্রত্যাহার করার দাবিতে। সমাবেশে যোগ দিতে দুপুরে মুন্সীগঞ্জের শ্রীনগর উপজেলার অন্তত ১০ গ্রামের নারী-পুরুষ বাসযোগে ষোলঘর থেকে রওনা দেয়ার প্রস্তুতিকালে বিমানবন্দর নির্মাণ সমর্থনকারী কিছু লোক বাধা দেয় এবং কয়েকটি গাড়ির চালককে বেধড়ক মারপিট করে। এ ঘটনাকে কেন্দ্র করে বিক্ষুব্ধ হয়ে ওঠে আড়িয়ল বিলবাসী। পরে হাজার হাজার মানুষ শ্রীনগর উপজেলার ছনবাড়ি চৌরাস্তা থেকে উমপাড়া পর্যন্ত ঢাকা-মাওয়া মহাসড়কে প্রায় দু’কিলোমিটার জুড়ে অবস্থান নেয়। বিক্ষুব্ধ জনতা এ সময় যানবাহন ও দোকানপাটে ভাংচুর চালায়। একপর্যায়ে পুলিশের সঙ্গে বিক্ষোভকারীদের শুরু হয় ধাওয়া-পাল্টা ধাওয়া। পুলিশ বিক্ষোভকারীদের প্রথমে লাঠিপেটা করে। পরে টিয়ারগ্যাস নিক্ষেপ ও ফাঁকা গুলি করে। পাঁচঘণ্টা ধরে চলে এই হাঙ্গামা। এতে পুলিশসহ আহত হয়েছে ৩০ জন।
ঢাকা-মাওয়া সড়কে যখন বিক্ষুব্ধ অবস্থান চলছে তখন রাজধানীতে চলছিল আরেক নাটক। আড়িয়ল বিল রক্ষা কমিটি মুক্তাঙ্গনে সমাবেশ করার জন্য ঢাকা সিটি করপোরেশন এবং ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের কাছ থেকে অনুমতি নিয়েছিল। কিন্তু পুলিশই আবার কাউকে মুক্তাঙ্গনে ঢুকতে না দিয়ে সমাবেশটি পণ্ড করে দেয়। কমিটির লোকজন সেখান থেকে চলে গিয়ে প্রেস ক্লাবের সামনে সমাবেশ ও মিছিল করতে চাইলে পুলিশ সেখানে গিয়েও চড়াও হয়। পুলিশ তাদেরকে লাঠিপেটা করে, ব্যানার কেড়ে নেয় এবং খেদিয়ে প্রেস ক্লাবের ভেতর ঢুকিয়ে দেয়। বুঝতে কষ্ট হয় না, সমাবেশে আসতে ইচ্ছুক আড়িয়ল বিলবাসীদের ওপর যাত্রার শুরুতে শ্রীনগর উপজেলায় হামলা চালানো থেকে মুক্তাঙ্গনের সমাবেশ পণ্ড করে দেয়া পর্যন্ত সবকিছুই ‘উপরের’ অঙ্গুলি নির্দেশে ঘটেছে। ‘উপরের’ নির্দেশের এই বারবাড়ন্ত অবস্থায় গণতন্ত্র দৌড়ে পালানোর পথ খুঁজতে বাধ্য। তেমন পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি হয়েছে বলেই বাংলাদেশের মানুষ আজ শান্তিপূর্ণভাবে প্রতিবাদ জানানোর অধিকার থেকেও বঞ্চিত।
