 A trawler sinks, 17 killed

At least 17 people have been killed after a motor boat capsized in Haor of Netrokona's Madan upazila. The boat with 48 passengers sank in Gobindashri area of the upazila around 1.30pm on Wednesday.
Upon receiving the news, the rescue workers of the fire service started the rescue work with the help of the locals. Although 30 people managed to swim ashore, fire service divers recovered the bodies of 16 passengers. One of the passengers of the boat that left Madan's Uchitpur Ghat is still missing

The district administration has formed a committee to investigate the incident. The fire service suspended the rescue operation as darkness fell.
The deceased have been identified as Mafuzur Rahman, 45, a resident of Kanapara village in Mymensingh and teacher of Markasunna Hafizia Madrasa, his son Asif Mia, 15, Mahmud Mia, 12, Isa Mia, 45, son of Helal Uddin, Zahid Hasan, 20, and Waz Uddin. Daughters Lubna Akhter (10) and Zulfa Akhter (8), Rezaul Karim (18), Saiful Islam (30), Jubayer (22), Hamidur Islam (35), Azaharul Islam (35), Shafiqur Rahman (40), his son Saman (10), Shamim Hasan (10), Mujahid (18) and Shahidul Islam (40).

Madrasa teacher Manjurul Islam, 35, who survived the accident, told reporters that they were all residents of Kanapara village in Mymensingh. They went out to Haor by boat.He said he was on the roof of the boat when the boat suddenly capsized in the air and he jumped from the roof and started swimming. At one point, as he was about to drown,he tore off Guy's Punjabi and took off his pajamas. Then he swam ashore. He said the boat was carrying more passengers than its carrying capacity.

Deputy Commissioner Moin-ul Islam said the families of each of the victims had been given taka 7,000 each. A four-member committee has also been formed to investigate the incident. However, he did not immediately name the members of the committee.

Lebanese Health Minister Hamad Hassan said the blast had injured many people and caused extensive damage. The Lebanese Red Cross says hundreds of injured people have been taken to hospital. In the local media, people were seen trapped under the rubble. An eyewitness said the first blast took place in a loud voice.

The Lebanese government's coronavirus crackdown, public outrage over the collapse of the economy, and political tensions erupted beforethe verdict in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.

Tensions are also running high over Lebanon's border with Israel. However, Israel has denied any involvement in the bombings.
