Our team just returned from the mart this January. Twice a year the Bangles and Bags team spends a week searching the newest products, styles and trends to bring back to our boutiques. We generally must forecast the next season’s trends long before you ever see them on the shelf. So what is one of Spring 2018’s hottest upcoming Trend?

While a lot of the classic 70’s styles have remained this year, the biggest new trend is Definitely Mermaids and ocean. From Tails to jewelry, everything for spring will be centered on those bold sea colors of Blue and teal green. To combine this you will see a ton of colorful outfits with darker shades of indigo, Purple and aqua. The fish prints are still big this season and look great when paired with these darker sea colors.

You will see many new prints and designs centered around the mermaid design. 
Even home decor is taking its cue from this hot new trend. Mermaid blankets, lamps and art are taking over in the home decor department. These styles still pair great with sea shells and that rustic look we have all come to love. 

But don’t worry, if you can’t seem to channel your inner Ariel there’s still some basics from last year that will still look great with ocean based color accents. From a sea foam solid dress to indigo necklace to coordinate, you really can’t go wrong. Also if you are still recovering from last year’s unicorn colored rainbow, you can still use a few of those items and just mix in some new sea trends.

Overall our team was less impressed with the new trends as we see them as being temporary, but we still love the aqua and bold blue green colors. Our fashion forecast just says to be safe and only dabble in the Mermaid trend, but not over do it unless the little mermaid is your favorite character of all time.

So Valentines Day is fast approaching and we couldn’t help but share this cute idea. If you’re into crafts, or just have a few extra minutes you can create this Do it yourself Valentine Tote in around 5 Minutes!!

You’ll need to go to your local Michaels or Hobby Lobby craft store and pickup a cheap canvas tote. We’ve even seen these basic bags at the Dollar store.

You need to also pick up some gold fabric (or fabric you would like your heart cut out in), Some No Sew Fabric Glue, scissors (if you don’t already have some), construction paper (you can use printer paper if you prefer), a ink pen and some sequins if you want to make the backside of the bag or a totally different bag.

Now for the instructions

Step 1: Gather all your supplies from the store or around your house

Step 2: Take the construction/paper and make sure that it’s big enough to cover most of the front your bag

Step 3: Now take the construction/paper and fold it in half.. Then draw a half a heart on one side (it doesn’t have to be perfect, just do the best you can)

Step 4: Take the scissors and cut out the heart you just drew. We are going to use that paper as a stencil to cut out the cloth heart.

Step 5: Use the paper stencil and lay it flat on your cloth. Trace the heart onto the back of your cloth. (quick tip: use dots instead of a solid line, to keep It from bleeding and to keep your cloth from bunching as you trace)

Step 6: Take the scissors and cut out the heart you just traced on the cloth

Step 7: Use the No Sew Fabric Glue and cover the back of the cloth. Make sure you cover the edges and put some in the middle of the heart to ensure it doesn’t come off.

Step 8: Lay the heart on your tote on the center side and press it down firmly. Let it sit until it dries and viola!! You have a awesome Valentine Tote custom made!

To make the sequin style or put this on the back side of you tote just follow these instructions

Step 1: You will need the tote, the sequins, the no sew glue, pencil/pen and scissors

Step 2: Sketch your letters on the tote lightly with the pencil and lay your sequins on the lines to measure and cut out the lengths you need to cover your lines

Step 3: Using the lines you put on the tote, put a line of glue on top of your line. Then attach the sequins on top of the glue.

Step 4: Press the sequins firmly down to ensure that they don’t come loose.

Step 5: If you want to separate some of the sequins from the ribbon to glue little dots all over your bag you can

Step 6: let it dry and enjoy!

Even if you aren’t crafty this tote is super easy to make and costs only a few buck. Plus it’s super cute!!

The Blessing Flower is a real flower for the Desert of Judea in Israel, that has the amazing ability to bloom on demand, again & again for decades!  (Yes there are flowers that bloom in the desert lol)

Each flower is hand picked and chosen to adorn each piece of jewelry from the desert garden in Judea (Judea Desert shown in this picture).  
The most amazing part of the flower is that fact that it closes it's petals and stays dormant until you place a drop of water upon the top.  That single drop soaks into the flower and causes this marvel of nature to open it's petals and show the inside.  The flower never dies and will continue to open and close for the rest of our lives.

To open the flower just drip a few drops of water on it, or dip it in water for 10-30 sec. It will fully bloom in 1-2 min and stay opened for about an hour each time. If you want to leave it opened - just touch the middle with a wet finger.

You can activate the flower numerous times a day, or every few years. It will still continue to bloom for decades!

These amazing flowers are grown in the Judean Desert in Israel, where they bloom once a year and naturally dry in the desert sun. They are then collected & brought to a jewelry studio, where they go through a journey of unique grooming & preparation. Question 1) How do I apply these things?
To keep this short I’m going to link to a Full Tutorial that we created HERE. It contains written instructions as well as a video tutorial

Question 2) How do I get Vinyl Decals off?
Decals can be removed by usually picking at a corner and peeling. After you get the actual vinyl off, you may be left with a sticky residue. To remove that just use some “Goo Be Gone” or standard Windex. If you have issues removing any of the top vinyl, try getting a hair dryer to heat it up first, then see if you can peel it off easier. For glass windows you can even scrape it off using a razor blade.

Question 3) Why are Bangles And Bags Decals more expensive than other places?
Simply put… you get what you pay for. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. People get cricket machines and other personal cutters and usually buy materials from hobby and craft stores. Well the vinyl that they sell is just that. Hobby (exhibition )vinyl… This means that it’s generally thinner and the adhesive is not as strong. Bangles and Bags ONLY sells Professional grade vinyl with a 7+ year Outdoor life. This means that our vinyl is the same vinyl used on Police cars, business signs, and even the pin stripe going down the side of your car. It’s as much as 3 times thicker which means the colors last longer without cracking and the adhesives stick even under the worst conditions, like in a dishwasher. If you buy vinyl from somewhere else for a cheaper price, you are getting what’s known as hobby or exhibition vinyl. It is made to last less than a year or two outside. You know you’ve seen those cars with crackled and peeling vinyl monograms.. Yeah they probably thought they were getting a great deal at the time but now they have to buy another and spend even more. We believe in doing it right the first time so that you don’t have to do it again so that’s why our vinyl decals cost more.. Because the quality is 10 times better.

Question 4) What’s the difference between the Outdoor and Indoor Vinyl you sell?
Simple, it’s designed so that it can go on your wall without ripping the sheet rock off. The indoor vinyl Bangles and Bags sells is just as thick as our outdoor vinyl The major difference is the adhesive on the back. It’s not as strong so that it doesn’t hurt walls and things like that. We don’t recommend using it outside because of that reason. The indoor vinyl is also a “matte” finish instead of a “glossy” finish. That’s how you can tell the difference when you receive it. Outdoor vinyl has a much stronger adhesive and if you put it on your wall, it will rip the sheet rock off so you have been warned!

Question 5) How BIG can I make my monogram decal?
That’s completely up to you! We can make you any size decal you need, just keep in mind that most vinyl rolls are only 2-4 feet wide so it may have to be spliced together if it’s bigger than that. This just means you overlap the edge to piece it together, but don’t worry, we will send you EXTREMELY LARGE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS if you ever need anything that big. Lol

Question 6) What’s a good size monogram decal for the back of my car?
The perfect size is between 4 and 6 inches. Much smaller and you can’t see it from a distance. Much larger and you just look like you are advertising something. Lol

Question 7) What’s the best color to put on the windows of my car?
Honestly, WHITE… We have put nearly every color on car windows but the one that always shows up the best is white. Why you ask? Because your windows from the outside of your car look dark gray or almost black. So a white vinyl monogrammed decal is a great contrast to the dark color of your car windows.

Question 8) What is “application” or “transfer” tape?
It’s the clear or paper covering on top of your vinyl decal. Without it the tiny little pieces of your design would be so hard to stick on to stuff you would never be able to figure it out. Unlike a sticker that is usually just a big round thing that you can peel and stick, vinyl decals are actually cut out designs. So in order to “transfer” them onto something we use that application tape to hold all the little pieces of the design together to transfer it over to an item. The glue on the “transfer” tape is not as sticky as the glue on the back of the decal.. So once your decal touches the item you want it on, when you peel off the transfer tape it easily comes off leaving your decal behind on the item.

Question 9) What goes into making my Custom Vinyl Decal?
First we had to buy the machines that cut the vinyl. They are known as a plotter. They cost around $2000 dollars.
Second we had to buy the vinyl materials including the vinyl itself, and the transfer tape. We buy them in HUGE rolls over 50 yards long!
Third we had to buy extremely expensive software to design your decal. Pro grade software is ridiculously expensive and upgrades are just as expensive. Our embroidery software cost of over $3000. 
Fourth we had to buy commercially sellable fonts. We can’t just use a font.. believe it or not but fonts are Copyrighted by their creators and if we sell something using that font without permission we could be fined or worse. Some fonts we have bought for over $300-$500 each.
Fifth one of our team members takes your order and digitally programs it into our software.
Sixth it is sent to the plotter to be cut out
Seventh a team member loads your vinyl onto the plotter, aligns everything and starts the cutting process.
Eighth the design is cut from the machine and sent to a “weeder”. This person literally picks out or “weeds” out the parts of the vinyl that you don’t want. So all those little cut out places inside your monogrammed decal someone had to manually pick out piece by piece. It’s time consuming and difficult, but our Bangles and Bags staff handles hundreds of them at a time.
Ninth, after it’s weeded it’s sent to a team member for Transfer tape application. They apply the Transfer tape to the top and cut out the design for shipment to you.

So as you can see there are a lot of things involved in making a Custom Monogrammed decal. You can always trust Bangles And Bags to give you the best decals around, the highest quality, at the best prices.

Step 1) Run a small plastic squeegee or a credit card over the surface of the decal to activate the decal application tape. (it may be clear plastic or white paper)

Step 2) Clean and dry the flat, smooth surface where you want the decal to be applied.

Step 3) Slowly separate and remove the application tape with the attached decal from the paper backing. If the decal stays on the paper backing, just run over it once more with the squeegee before trying again.

Step 4) Place the decal onto the surface and run over it with the squeegee to smooth out any bubbles. (When placing the decal, it may help to arc the decal and set it starting from the middle, working your way toward the outside.)

Step 5) Slowly remove the application tape so that the decal remains on the surface. If the decal begins to peel up, run the squeegee over it and try again.

Step 6) Discard the application tape and enjoy!

All of our decals are pressure sensitive and seal after about 10 minutes of application. So once it’s applied be sure not to wet it or scrape it for at least 10 minutes after applying.

PRO TIP: Don’t apply when items are extremely HOT or COLD. If applying to your car window, leave the car in the shade for a bit to allow the windows to cool first.

THE TRUE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MONOGRAMMERS

Being in the Embroidery / Monogramming business for over 13 years has taught us a lot.  We always hear customers say “my friend has a home embroidery machine, why pay you to do it?”

We always answer with the same reply.  “We encourage you to get them to sew your items for you”.

I’m sure you’re thinking, why would you send customers away?

The answer is simple.  We know that those customers will usually return and bring all their items to us to sew.

Home sewing machines that do embroidery require setup, understanding of materials, purchased fonts or designs, and tons of time. 

Through our years of experience we have all of this down to a science, while most home embroiderers or home sewers have not had the massive amounts of trial and error in embroidery that we have had.

We have had customers bring us destroyed  items that they have had sewn from home embroiderers and even other embroidery companies, crying over the quality of the stitching, size of the monogram, placement or even worse the massive puckering of the fabrics, all in the name of saving a few dollars. 

Why don’t they take it back where they had it done to get it fixed?  Most people are afraid to tarnish their friendships or tell someone they have known for years, they did a horrible job.   So instead they bring the damages to us to try and repair.

The problem with embroidery is this:  It is a destructive process.  Meaning, the threads go in easy, but don’t  come out easy.  They leave permanent holes in your fabrics when removed and can sometimes destroy an item.

All too often I have seen irreplaceable items destroyed and brought to us to try and “cover” over others mistakes.

So why should you trust us to do your embroidery and monogramming?

• We don’t use home sewing machines.  We actually have 7 state of the art digital commercial embroidery machines, capable of stitching up to 1500 stitches per minute.  (Other commercial machines max out at 800, home embroidery machines max out around 200).  This means that we can sew your items faster with more precision than any other embroidery machine.
  
  
• Over 13 years experience embroidering.  Items as small as a babies shirt cuff, to as large as a shower curtains and bed spread with a 14” Monogram on the front, we have had lots of practice.  We have learned from our mistakes over the years and have perfected what we do and stand behind that experience.
  
  
• Our stitching is tighter, more consistent, and made to last.  Some other companies create loose or uneven stitching.  We use 100% polyester thread that it is color fast and maintains its shape and color for years to come vs. the cheaper Rayon thread.
  
  
• We hand measure every item to ensure placement is dead center on your items, or in the exact place you want it.
  
  
• We use commercial backing on nearly every product giving the embroidery support and helping to avoid puckering.  This backing also keeps your embroidery looking great even after washes.
  
  
• The ability to sew any thing from 1-5000 items.  All of our embroidery is done in house, including designing and digitizing logos, or fonts.  What that means is that if you need something changed on a design or monogram, we can do it in minutes instead of having to send it out or hire another company to make those changes.
