Today--Ratchanok Intanon, the only one Banthongyod’s athlete who participated in the Proton Malaysia International Challenge 2009, lost a compatriot, Sapsiree Taerattanachai in the final women’s single 21-11, 19-21, and 22-20.

Five Banthongyod’s athletes are participating in the Proton Malaysia International Challenge 2009 November 17-22 at Bandaraya Ipoh stadium, Perak.

The Badminton Association of Thailand and SCG sent twenty-eight Thai athletes, 17 men and 11 women, from across the country to participate in the tournament.

Five of the twenty-eight athletes, Ratchanok Intanon, Pisit Poodchalat, Sarayuth Saetung, Nuttaphon Narkthong, and Patiphat Chalardchalaem, belong to the Banthongyod Badminton School.

BANTHONGYOD JUNIOR WON GIRLS’ DOUBLE TITLE IN THE 3rd ASEAN PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORT OLYMPIAD (APSSO), 2009

Two Banthongyod junior athletes, Ruethaichanok Laisuan and Arisa Sapnithi, won the girls’ double title in the 3rd ASEAN Primary School Sport Olympiad (APSSO), which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from November 3rd to 8th, 2009.

Moreover, Arisa also got the third place in girls’ single, and Pacharapol Nipornram, another boy athlete, got the third place in boys’ double.

The APSSO project was initiated by ASEAN in 2007. It involves the sport disciplines of athletics, football, chess, table tennis, and badminton. APSSO is regarded as an excellent platform for promoting ASEAN awareness, strengthening regional solidarity, and building friendships among children in the region.

In this year (2009), eight countries participated in the event: Indonesia (with 113 athletes and officials), Brunei Darussalam (24), Malaysia (36), Myanmar (13), the Philippines (36), Singapore (30), Thailand (9), and Vietnam (39). Laos and Cambodia were absent. Thailand only played in the badminton event.

RATCHANOK CREATED NEW HISTORY FOR THAILAND IN WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

Nov. 1, 2009 -- Ratchanok Inthanon, who just won the women’s singles title in the Thailand Championship in September, has made history in the 2009 Yonex-Sunrise WBF World Junior Championship by winning the women’s singles title. In the final, she defeated Porntip Buranaprasertuk, a compatriot, 21-15, 21-23, 21-10.
Before Inthanon, no Thai badminton player had ever won a world title at either the senior or junior level championships. Inathanon also made history as the youngest gold medalist, at age 14.

In the semi-final, Inthanon was also in devastating form and subdued the challenge from Suo Di of China, winning in straight games 21-14, 21-18. Inthanon joins an elite few players who have denied China the girl’s singles crown. Last year, India’s Saina Nehwal won the title in Pune. Prior to that, China were only denied the title in 1992 (Kristin Junita from Indonesia) and 2004 (Cheng Shao-Chieh from Chinese Taipei).

Inthanon’s win was also Thailand’s first singles world title in either the senior or junior ranks. If she maintains her form, Inthanon could even continue to collect an astonishing five world junior titles, as she is eligible to compete in the Under-19 category until 2013.

After clinching the world junior title in 49 minutes, Inthanon has now set her sights on making a name for herself in the senior scene, beginning with the Malaysian International Challenge in Ipoh this month and the SEA Games in Laos in December.

SONGPOL’S RANKING UP AFTER HIS FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP IN SUPER SERIES

Songpol Anukittayawan, our athlete, won his first mixed double championship in the Yonex Japan Open 2009 Super Series on September 27, raising his world ranking from 13 to 9. This is the second trophy Thailand has won at this tournament; the first was won by Sudket Prapakamol, also our athlete, in 2005.

Songpol Anukittayawan and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul beat Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark, who rank 6th in the world, 13-21, 21-16, and 22-20.

BANTHONGYOD WINS THE FIRST WOMEN’S SINGLE TROPHY IN THAILAND BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ratchanok Inthanon, our athlete, won women’s title at the SGC All Thailand Badminton Championships 2009. This was her first national title since she got the Runner-Up last year. She also was recorded the youngest player, 14 years old, in the Roll of Honor.

Ms. Kamala Thongkorn, the President of Banthongyod Badminton School, said, “This is the first single trophy that we got from this tournament. We are very happy with it. The single trophy has a lot of meaning for us. Every year, we always get men’s double and mixed double trophy. The next step, we hope that we will get men’s single and women’s double; this year we had the runner-up by Chayanit Chaladchalame.”

The next tournaments Ratchanok will play in October are the Victor-Chiangmai-Bangkok Open 2009 from October 18 to 25, 2009, and World Junior Championship 2009 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia from October 23 to November 1.
