In a perfect world, you’re keeping your direct sales home party calendar booked anywhere from four to six weeks out, giving you plenty of time for host coaching and your host time to plan her home party at a nice, leisurely pace. In reality, however, there will always be times when, either because of a cancellation or just a dry spell with bookings, you find yourself with empty spaces in your calendar within the next few weeks. What can you do? Is it even possible to “pull a home party together” in just a week or so with any success?

• Since you’ll be asking your host to work a little harder (and faster), you’ll need to sweeten the pot for her. I called my close-in dates “bonus” dates. When a host chose one of my bonus dates, she got a special gift (usually worth at least $25.00 retail) when I showed up to do her home party for her. IMPORTANT!! This gift is given at the home party, not before. Part of the idea is to ensure that the party actually holds. If it didn’t, I wasn’t out the item.
• Normally, I advise that you set up a host coaching appointment within about a week to meet with your host either over the phone or in person to get her guest list and put together her home party plan. Since you’re looking at a short time frame with this type of booking, however, you’ll probably have to do this host coaching and put together the home party plan at the home party she’s booking from or on the same phone call from which she’s booking.
• Be sure you have a self-addressed, stamped envelope to give her so she can mail you her guest list within the next few days. You’ll want to send her invitations out asap. In this case, I also recommend that you encourage her to invite people via e-vite and over the phone.
• Choose a fun theme for her home party and coach her how to get outside orders and follow up with her guests to ensure good attendance.
• Follow up often, continue coaching and make sure your host feels supported. Pulling together a home party in such a short period of time can be stressful and your job is to alleviate as much of that stress as possible.

You hear a lot about it, but do you have it?

It’s the process of being found on Google and other search engines without the searcher (the person searching) knowing your name, your website or really anything about you. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is about making your website/blog search engine “friendly” so you can be located through search terms and links rather than by your web name (URL).

Once your website/blog has been indexed in the search engines (if it isn’t already, I can take care of that!) you can now start to “optimize” your site! It’s fun, it’s like a game and often it may be useful to have someone who knows what they are doing handle it for you. Basic SEO does involve working with your Meta Tags, Title tag, Descriptions, Keywords, Content and Links.

Meta Tags

For SEO, the Meta tags are information that is not visible to searchers on a website, but they loaded into areas of a web page that are found by Search Engines and help them rank the site in results; in other words they tell the search engines what your site is all about.

Meta tags need to be very specific and include a variety of things about your site/blog. In order to be really viable, the Content on your website/blog should be original and specific to what your site is about and follow what your Meta Tags.

You need to have at least 400-600 words on your web page and continually write to your keywords (another thing I can help you with!). However, you don’t want to overload your page or post with your keywords, this can hurt you more than help you in the search engines.

It’s important that you also get your site linked with as many sites as you can – now there is an art to that and comes a little later down the road. Linking your website/blog builds your popularity on the web and the search engines, such as Google, can give you high SEO scores for the more links you have.

What is a Title Tag

A Title Tag has been and will always be very important and it can be a bit “techie” as well. It’s one of the most important factors in achieving high search engine rankings. A title tag is a piece of HTML code that belongs on every web page which best describes the information that will be found on that page. A title tag should contain the main keyword phrases that best describe the page, which a person would type into a search engine.

In SEO, Title Tags tell what is in the content of a specific web page, it says what your page is all about. Creating an appropriate title tag is one of the most important things you can do to achieve high ranking SEO. (See, told you it was rather “techie”…)

What should my Title Tag say?

Your Title Tag should include your keywords along with the most important services you offer. OK, the bottom line, for SEO, your keywords must stand out in the title of your index page before anything else you might add.

How long can my Title Tag be?

You cannot make your title tag real long, there are limits that need to be met. Your title tag should be 6 to 12 words (so they, the experts say) and be approximately 60 – 80 characters and this includes your spaces. Title Tags are extremely important to your Search Engine Optimization so if you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, let me help you.

You want to make sure that you provide the search engines with important and specific information to have your website/blog found.

The cool thing here is that you can have different Title Tags for different pages. So this means you can spread your keywords over your various pages. The main thing is having a strong Title Tag for each page which will increase your visibility on all the search engines and improve your SEO.

Here’s a little more of that “techie stuff…” Here’s a little more of that “techie stuff…” The title tag can be found in the “source code” of a web page or at the top of your browser window. The easiest way to see the title tag is to right click on your web page, click on “View Source” which may be towards the bottom of the pop up box and it will open in a new window. You can always ask me to show you too. Sometimes that’s just a little easier.

The Meta Tag Description

The Meta tag description is an added real important and very powerful SEO tactic. The Meta description tag is a snippet of HTML code that belongs inside thesection of a Web page. It usually is placed after the Title tag and before the Meta keywords tag, although the order is not important.

This tag is found in the “techie” part of your HTML code –rather close to where the Title Tag can be found. Your Meta description is another one of the very important tags in achieving a good SEO ranking with all search engines.

What should your Meta Description Tag say?

This description tag needs to be a powerful statement using your keywords as to what this particular page is all about. It’s generally felt that the Meta description tag should be 12 to 24 words and up to 180 characters. The main thing you need to know though about a Meta description tag is that it’s really important and needs to be great. End of story. And of course, we can help you make it great!

What is a Meta Keyword Tag? (Last Meta Tag I Promise!)

Ok, this one is really not as important as the others, BUT it is still very relevant for SEO. The Meta keyword tag lists the specific keywords and/or phrases that will tell the search engines what your page is all about. To write this tag you would use your “keywords” or “keyword phrases” or just have me do it for you.

How can I check out my Meta Keyword Tag?

Go back to that “techie” part of your website (referred to in the Title Tag/ Tag Description section). That’s where you will find the Meta Keyword Tag for your website/blog.

Things to remember about Meta Keyword Tags

Your keywords need to be listed in order of their importance, for example, what your page is about and so forth. Now don’t forget to include variations of a keyword, the singular and plural versions. Don’t overuse your keywords search engines don’t like it when keywords are over used. Or, just call me and I can work it out for you.

• Submit your web pages to different “Ping” sites. Letting search engines and other sites know that you have updated, added new content or made changes to your website. You can and I would suggest that you ping your site at the end of each day but only if you have added, changed or updated your website.

• Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and processes and modify your web pages accordingly so your search engine ranking remains high. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing.

• Monitor your competitors and the top ranked websites of your competitors and niche to see what they are doing right in the way of design, navigation, content, keywords, etc.

• Use reports and logs from your web hosting company to see where your traffic is coming from. Analyze your visitor location and their incoming sources whether search engines or links from other sites and the keywords they used to find you.

• Demonstrate your industry expertise by writing and submitting articles for your website or for article sites so you are perceived as an expert in your field.

• When not sure, hire professionals. Though it may seem costly, but it is a lot less expensive than spending your money on a website which no one visits.

• Don’t look at your website as a static brochure. Treat your website as a dynamic, ever-changing marketing tool, because your website is and will be ever changing. You will be tweaking, adding articles, graphics etc. as needed on a regular basis.

For new bloggers Goals, that word can be very scary, but it doesn’t have to be, especially if you know what to do. What is a goal? A goal is something specific, something you want or need to accomplish in a specific period of time. To establish a clear, central purpose or goal in life is the starting point of all success.

There was a study several years ago at a business school and the results of the graduates who had been out of school for at least ten years illustrates the power of goals. Upon graduation the graduates were surveyed and the following was found:

As new bloggers, you have goals; you may just not realize it now. I want to help you realize, develop and achieve your goals. Your goals are your promises to YOU! Goal setting is just like creating a blueprint. Lets get started creating your blueprint!

Everyone not just new bloggers, needs to learn how to set effective, realistic and SMART goals. Start the process by first creating a list of dreams. Make sure you list places you would like to visit, things you would like to experiences, items you would like to have, skills you would like to acquire and the amount of money you would like to make. Maybe you want to travel to Hawaii or Europe or you want a new house or car. You decide what you want and write it down on paper.

You will need this list to develop SMART Goals.

There is no limit to the number of goals that you set. You need to make sure your list includes goals that you are committed to attaining.

There are a few steps as new bloggers to take to set effective goals and we will cover those here:

A=Actionable
There must be specific action steps you can take toward realization of the goal.

R=Realistic
Your goal must be one that is realistically based on your current level of skills, environment, and the time allotted.

T=Time Based
Your goal needs to have a deadline that you are committed to.

Look over each goal you have on your list and ask yourself, “is this a SMART goal? Why or why not? Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself about each goal you want to set:

After you have written your “SMART Goals” you need to prioritize your long-term and short-term goals. This is a very important step in the goal-setting process because it enables you to step back and examine which goals are most important to you. This does not mean that you should ignore the goals farther down on your list, but it does help you to identify where and how to focus your efforts now.

Your goals will change over time, you will achieve some goals, and others may lose their importance as circumstances in your life change. As this happens you need to re-examine and re-prioritize your goals.

Once you have defined your SMART Goals you will need to define an action plan.

As new bloggers, an Action Plan is an essential element of setting goals. The details that you specify in your Action Plan enable you to see what you need to do and avoid, in achieving your goals. As you develop your Action Plan, be sure to keep the following in mind:

*Write SMART Goals
*Develop your goals with a positive attitude
*Expand your knowledge
*Shape your Action Plan and commit to it
*Invest in developing effective skills and habits
*Gain results by building relationships

Here is a great way to write your goals. Be sure to use an outline for each goal you want to set. These steps will help you to define your wants.

Step 1. List one of the goals you would like to achieve be specific.
Step 2. List 3 to 5 reasons to achieve this goal. In other words, why is it important that YOU achieve this goal?
Step 3. List the steps you need to take to achieve this goal. Break the process down into reasonable steps toward achieving your goal.

Let me show you a sample goal so you can see what is involved in each of the above steps.

Step 1. The Goal: You want a new red convertible 2005 Corvette with black leather seats, automatic, with a 5 disc CD player.

Step 2. What’s in it for me (YOU)

1. I will get the satisfactions of driving the car of my dreams.
2. I will feel important.
3. I will be the first in my family to ever own such a car.
4. I will have achieved one of my goals.

Step 3. Steps to achieve your goal. You will need to increase yearly sales by $55,000 and introduce 204 people to the business opportunity.

1. I need to increase monthly sales approximately $4,500 and increase my new business partners by 17.
2. I need to increase weekly sales approximately $1,125 and bring in 4/5 new business partners.
3. I need to increase daily sales approximately $150 and bring in no less than 1 new business partner per day.

You may want to go into greater detail than I did with this example. I just wanted to share with you how this works. Your goals may not include a car, it could be going back to school to get a degree, buying a new home or re-decorating your current home. Whatever your goals, these steps will help you to define them.

It is also important to share your newly defined goals with your family, friends and business associates.

A few reasons why people fail at achieving their goals are:

1. People take action without any real plan.
2. People give themselves an unrealistic time-frame for achieving a goal
3. Their reason for the goal is unclear; they have not properly defined the goal
4. Lack of focus. Success demands focus.
5. Trying to do it alone, nobody goes through life alone and you should not try to
achieve your goals alone. Ask for help.
6. FEAR OF FAILURE!!!! This is the biggie out of all the above. Fear resides where knowledge does not exist; the more knowledge you have about anything the less intimidated you will feel. Replace your fear with knowledge.

You now have some of the tools to achieve your goals. MAKE THIS YOUR BEST YEAR EVER!

A spider is almost like a book where it contains the table of contents, the actual content and the links and references for all the websites it finds during its search, and it may index up to a million pages a day.

When you ask a search engine to locate information, it’s actually searching through the index which it created and not actually searching the Web. Different search engines produce different rankings because not every search engine uses the same algorithm to search through the indices.

One of the things that a search engine algorithm scans for is the frequency and location of keywords on a web page, but it can also detect artificial keyword stuffing or spamdexing. Then the algorithms analyze the way that pages link to other pages in the Web. By checking how pages link to each other, an engine can both determine what a page is about, if the keywords of the linked pages are similar to the keywords on the original page.

This will tell the search engines that your site contains plenty of the type of content listed in your Title. The more keywords that link to a specific page the better.

Step 3: You need to be sure to include the keywords and text in your Title Tag on your website page as well. Again, this just notifies the Search Engines that your site is relevant to the title that is listed.

Step 4: New bloggers it can be very helpful to your reader/visitors and the search engines to make your Headline, or “H1 tag? text the same as your title text. Now, when you visitor clicks from the search engines, he/she will see the same wording.

This dose show a relationship between your title and the page content as well as lets them know they are reading the page they wanted. Add your keywords in a few times throughout the body of your page, but don’t over stuff your page with your keywords.

Step 5: It’s really exciting to know that each page of your website/blog is actually its own “mini website” so creating a unique title tag for each page can be extremely valuable with the Search Engines. It helps to index your pages better and ranks each page for its own content.

Step 6: When you are creating links to other pages, use strong keywords to identify the links and this will increase their importance in the Search Engines.

Step 7: When you add in images, use the “Alternate Text” feature and describe your images using your same keywords. This will help the search engines that index images find your pages and will also help readers who use text only web browsers. What will the QR Codes do for my business?

Questions…questions…and still more questions running through your head. Don’t worry about the fact that you’re not familiar with QR Codes. You will be the end of this article.

Here’s the definition of what a QR Code is…A QR code is a matrix code or a two dimensional bar code. QR Code was created by Denso-Wave and Japanese Corporation in 1994. The “QR” originated from “Quick Response.” The creation of this code is intended to allow its contents to be decoded at a very high speed.

The QR Code consists of little black “modules” which are then arranged in a square pattern and set on a white background and they hold information such as websites, coupons,phone numbers contact information and so much more.

The QR Code is rapidly becoming a popular method of online and mobile marketing.

With Smart Phones you can download a QR App for free. The QR Code app I use (I have an iPhone) is QR Reader. I”m sure there are several other apps out there that can read QR Codes so go check out the different apps and see which one works best for you.

A few other quick ideas for using a QR Code…promotional videos, product catalogs, scavenger hunts (how fun would this be for a group of kids!) promotional material, events and signage and of course the list goes on and on.
