This is going to be an AMAZING show!

Star Anna, Kim Virant, Victoria Wimer Contreras, Carla Torgerson and yours truly will sing our luscious hearts out to you… performing all songs by female artists who have inspired us over the years — including some of our own original tunes. Plus there will be a delicious wine tasting by female winemakers, and scrumptious appetizers that will make your taste buds do a jig. All of this under the magical glowing eyes of the Greek god sculptures in the Neptune Theater (recently remodeled, always cool). Last year we performed this show to a sold-out crowd… Don’t miss it! Elegant, fun, tasty, soulful, and sassy! For tickets click here. For more info, click here. Come and give all of your senses a special treat for the night!

MUSIC

I was at a rehearsal last night for the upcoming ‘Wine, Women & Song’ show that I’m part of. When I wasn’t singing, I started observing. Observing the joy and laughter on everyone’s faces; the non-verbal communication between the musicians; the way people (often the non-musicians in the room) would close their eyes or shake their head when a passage really touched them.

Debra Heesch, who produces this and other music shows, has a knack of bringing together just the right musicians to make some kind of magical spark of joy and camaraderie. It’s a real gift – certainly for all of us musicians, who often don’t all know each other at the first rehearsal, but quickly develop a bond and a ‘vibrational intimacy’ that is uniquely a result of playing music together. It is also a gift for the audiences that come to Debra’s shows because they are the direct beneficiaries of . . . → Read More: THE MYSTERY AND JOY OF MUSIC

In creating a list of the film directors who have most inspired and influenced me, I realized a theme running through all of their works: These are directors who use dream imagery in their films; they flawlessly combine reality with non-reality; and make the inner world of a human being just as real as the outer world. They are all visual masters, giving us images and characters we have rarely, if ever, seen before. I thought about why that was so important to me, and realized that I experience even ‘ordinary’ life as exquisitely strange and unbelievable, and these directors are able to translate the unreality of real life in the most beautiful and artistic way possible. And I love that.

There is a term used in cinema called the ‘auteur theory,’ which states that although filmmaking is a collaborative art, the director is the primary ‘author’ or voice of a movie. . . . → Read More: THE TOP SEVEN FILM DIRECTORS WHO MOST INSPIRED AND INFLUENCED ME AND MY FILMS
