Today Dear Sidewalk hit the presses. Big ups to Deadline Hollywood for breaking the story. This Barcode Films & NHO Entertainment picture is being helmed by Jake Oelman, written by Jake Limbert, and produced by Ford Oelman. “For being a first time feature director I’m grateful to have incredible acting talent to work with. Joe Mazzello, Michelle Forbes, and Josh Fadem are all top notch talents who breath life into the characters and execute with precision and brilliant insight. Combine that with a great supporting cast and a fantastic DP in Tom Lembcke and we have a movie that’s fun to make.

The Countdown Begins

About a year ago NHO Entertainment’s Ford Oelman and Barcode Films Jake Oelman began work on bringing Dear Sidewalk to the screen. Written by Jake Limbert the script is a whimsical tale of 25 year old mail carrier, Gardner Langway, who falls for an older woman on his mail route. Obviously there’s much more to the story but we will be unearthing many of the film’s treasures in future posts. After a long year of casting, rewrites, fund raising, and a temporary relocation to Austin, TX the film is finally ready to start production two weeks from today.

Films are comprised of thousands of different pieces and ideas. Many professional craftsman are involved in the process with the writer, director, and producers all working together in a collaborative way to make all of those pieces take shape into one cohesive form. This photo is of the Cathedral of Junk. Vince Hannemann aka the “Junk King” started construction on the cathedral in 1989 and it’s grown throughout the years into the magnificent structure that it is today. We are honored to have the opportunity to shoot at this location for the film and feel that it’s vary form embodies the essence of what indie filmmaking is all about.

Agata Destructs Technology

The music video for Destructo’s “Technology” was finally released today after months of secrecy. Directed by Agata Alexander this piece breaks the trend of modern day music videos by leaving the artist out of the equation and solely focusing on story. I take my hat off to both Destructo and Agata for taking such a risky approach because in doing so the result is the inverse of what you might expect. The song resonates more then it would if we were to see Destructo perform to thousands of rabid fans. This in no way is meant to take away from his stage presence or his ability to command a crowd but the sharp story line and provocative imagery allows “Technology” to penetrate the listener leaving a lasting, almost eerie impression. This is the stuff of cutting edge Sci-Fi genre films without the need for special effects and multi million dollar budgets. The video cuts through all that and asks the question, “Is this what the future will look like?” Themes of loneliness, materialism, and addictions on various levels are brought to light in haunting fashion. Shot by DOP Tom Lembcke and Dave Warshauer the video is beautiful in its simplicity.

Filming the Bull Shark

Here’s an amazing video piece on big wave surfer and world class free diver Mark Healey on a recent trip to Fiji. Mark can be seen diving with one of the most dangerous and unpredictable ocean predators, the bull shark. Good friend Chris Zamoscianyk directed the spot that he co-produced with Director of Photography Dave Warshauer who brought his ‘A’ game to the under water cinematography. With steel nerves and grace under pressure Dave was able to capture Mark interacting with the sharks in their natural habitat and the results are breath taking. With help from Monster Energy Chris and Dave give us this unique look inside of an eco-system that is seen up close by only a handful of people in the world and for this we tip our hats. Shark week eat your hearts out.

Ethan Oelman to Open Zurich

Barcode Films director Jake Oelman comes from an image gathering family, with both his father and brother working as photographers. On the 20th of January in Zurich, Switzerland Ethan Oelman will be doing a photo exhibit of all of his latest work. Ethan’s unique eye and interest in a wide variety of subjects will be on full display for the city of Zurich to enjoy. Jake had this to say about his brother, “Ethan has always been a good photographer but it hasn’t been until the last couple of years that he’s really focused solely on his art and in doing so he’s taken it to the next level and I couldn’t be more proud of him. Deadmau5 Tapes Up the Dragon Girl

On December 17th, 2011 as a part of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo promotional tour, Trent Reznor teamed up with Gary Richards from HARD events to put on secret shows. The HARD Mouth Taped Shut events are free and showcase the worlds best DJ talents. This show in particular featured Deadmau5 (unhooked), Eye, Proxy, and James Murphy all performing at the Palladium in Los Angeles. Manifest, Inc.’s Kevin Kerslake was brought on board to direct and produce this live video of “Aural Psynapse”. Barcode Films, Jake Oelman produced with Kerslake as well as shot the event with camera all stars Tom Lembcke, Chris Zam, Mike Scherlis, & Dave Warshauer with Clark Eddy as the editing master mind. The event was a great vibe for an LA show and both the kids and the music rocked.

After long last the Electric Daisy Carnival Experience rock-u-mentary movie has made its way on to iTunes. Barcode Films, Jake Oelman worked as a producer on the film with the notorious director/producer Kevin Kerslake of Manifest, Inc. The film highlights the 2010 EDC electronic music festival that saw 200,000 concert goers at the historic Los Angeles coliseum. The film was also produced by long time friend Kelly Lewis and executive producers Pasquale Rotella and Ed Bates. Agata Alexander did an amazing job on the edit and for any one who has ever been into DJ’s and electro music this movie is for you.

Van Productions Electrifies Audi

Our friend Dana Vorhees and her production company Van just produced and directed a spot for the all new electric Audi A3 e-tron. It’s a beautiful car and the cinematography does justice to the smooth lines and feel of this futuristic automobile. Director of Photography duties were split between Tom Lembcke and Dave Warshauer who both captured the essence of the car with editor Agata Alexander delivering a wonderfully paced cut. Hats off to the production team for nailing a great spot. Cheers.

Barcode’s own Jake Oelman produced the film with Manifest director/producer Kevin Kerslake for Insomniac Events. The film documents the largest Music Festival in North America, EDC. The film features the top DJ’s from around the globe.
