Be sure to get to Kroger this week(click here for you local ad) if you are a Coke product shopper. Now, obviously, going healthy means that we are going to have to give up our sodas a bit, but as I said, we are working on it. LOL

We do have a passion for Coke Zero around here. From the looks of the grocery store shelves most often, so do many others. I have learned to watch the various grocers for the week that they sale their sodas at .99 cents or $1 because going through two to three two liters per week can add up if you save .50 cents or more per two liter. I've been known to wipe out the entire stock in the store if possible. This can add up to a savings of at least $20 per month.

So this week I will be heading out to Kroger to get my Coke Zeros for the months as they are 10/$10 this week. So be sure to stock up yourselves.

One last thing. Anybody ever find any good deals on Cokes or coupons? I have not located any yet. Let me know if you do. Thanks

Set up a designated coupon and offer code email account

Today's Bargain Woman Helpful Tip is a simple one, but one that really makes a difference is setting up a separate email for all your bargain and coupon sites. Even having this can get a bit overwhelming as your sort through the various email updates, but I definitely didn't want my personal email account to get inundated with offers, advertisements, and newsletters. Most sites require you to register to get to the printable coupon or offer codes so having a designated email address for this purpose really eliminates junk mail to your personal account.

Then each week or however often you are looking for offers and coupons, you can check that email, type in the search engine of you email account what you are looking for, such as: kroger or target or Huggies and you should be able to pull each email with that title or subject line.

So, go ahead now and set up that coupon email. You can title it something catchy like couponclipper@gmail.com or bargainfinder@yahoomail.com, et cetera. You get the picture.

Bargain Woman 101- Helpful Tip #1: Organizing Coupons

The internet is a valuable tool in bargain shopping and finding great high dollar coupons. Many great sites already exist and you can find some of them by visiting my Great Bargain Sites page. Here are a few great tips I learned from Hip2Save when I first started coupon clipping.

1. Create a coupon organizer
2. Within your organizer create categories most appropriate to how you shop. For example, if you shop mostly at one or two stores you may want to organize by aisle or if you are like me and shop around for the best ads and coupon matches, you may want to organize by category. Example categories include:

Personal Care items

Cleaning Supplies

Breakfast Foods

Paper Products

And don't forget a section to keep your store specific coupons, i.e. Target, Kroger, Walgreens, etc.

3. You can find sleeves for organizing at your local department store or office supply store. Check out the baseball card collection area or scrapbooking department. I chose two sizes for my organizer. One with larger sleeves for the bigger coupons like this and another with a smaller sleeve, allowing more coupons to be seen with one glance.

4. I recommend you choose a flexible binder that isn't too rigid or hard to carry so it fits easily into a large bag or the front of your buggy and allows for easy flipping as you shop.

5. Finally, even though you have all your coupons nicely organized, I still recommend making a shopping list alongside your weekly sales ad and matching up the specific coupons for that week with the sales first. You can use a nice organizer in the front of your binder like this to keep those coupons out separate. Then as you find your items, you can place the coupons already found in one of the sleeves in the front pocket so you don't keep flipping through the same coupons while you shop. (Which can get rather time consuming and difficult while shopping with an impatient toddler. :-)

6. Keep in mind, however, there are often unadvertised specials in your stores and on the end caps so don't forget to check your coupons if you run across a great deal for extra savings.

Why I Love Target

I love Target. I do not shop at WalMart and to keep from getting too bashed, let me just say I have my own personal reasons. I don't think you are a bad person if you shop there and, I don't mind if you buy things from there for me or my family.

Okay, now that I have that out of the way. Let me just say that one of my newest reasons for liking Target is their coupon policy. You will find if you spend much time on the net researching coupon bargain sites and blogs, that there can often be some issues with the particular cashier or management at your Target store so it is important to be armed and ready with the Target Corporation coupon policies found here.

But, once you get into the habit of couponing and especially if you shop the same store with the same cashiers, they begin to know you and are familiar with your bargain savvy ways. In fact, more often than not, they want to know how in the world to save that much money.

Target is great because they will let you double an in store coupon with a manufacturer coupon. If you can manage to snag two coupons and a sale item, you can really rack up. I'll talk more about coupon tricks and ways to save in a later post, but for now be sure to stop by here, here, and here to get your weekly ad for Target, your current Target coupons, and find a great site dedicated solely to Target and Target lovers.

It's called VocalPoint

It has some great features like recipes, newsletters about homemaking, and much more. But, my favorite feature is that you get to become a sampler of new products for companies. They will send you a sample of their new product along with some really great high dollar coupons. In exchange, you just go online and give your feedback.

I'm sorry I've been so busy this week that I haven't had time to post. I recently assumed the responsibility of being the onsite prayer room coordinator for my church's prayer room. This is a brand new undertaking and I am responsible for writing all the content and policies and procedures for the prayer room and collection of prayer requests. It is so funny because it seems like I went from having very little extra curricular activity to having everything hit all at once. So much so I have contemplated halting this blog altogether. However, my husband has asked that I give it at least 30 days so I am going to honor him and do so.

The actual coupon searching and learning how to do the gaming is taking so much computer time right now that I don't have much time left over to write, but I know that once I get past the learning curve that won't be a problem.

This post is to announce the contest I promised. I have thought about a few different ideas and settled that the easiest thing to do would be gift cards. So here is what I am proposing:

Okay, I'm posting like crazy today...trying to get a week's worth in one day. I'm not doing you much good by posting this weeks bargains at the end of the week, am I? Sorry. I have noticed, however, that some of the other ladies just post one or two items as they find them. That makes sense. I'll try to do that more.

So here's what I did at Walgreens this week. I will say that I got a little burned because I needed diapers and would usually NEVER buy them at Walgreens, but I thought if I did two transactions that I could use my register rewards and some coupons from the first transaction and come out better than driving all the way to Target or Toys R Us. (The Walgreens is only about 5 miles from my house). Well, low and behold, I didn't do my Walgreens homework and was sadly disappointed to find out that the RR don't work like cash. You can only use 1 RR per item (and the cashier rang up my $1 first instead of my $2 RR Ugh!!) I didn't have the heart to make her rering it because she already had some trouble with a void on my first transaction.

Soooo needless to say, I overpaid for my diapers, but here are some good deals that I did rack up while there.

Tot School 9/11-9/18/2009

Working on opposites with these great little matching cards I got at Ross. Surprisingly, Jacob could do several of them. I was impressed. I can't take the credit.

God has truly given me an amazing child!

Jacob loves little books with flip up cards. This one is teaching him all the states. I also found one that has geographical places in the world. (Mommy is learning lots with him :)

He loves this little dry erease alphabet book I found for a steal at Ross. I love to pick up little educational books/toys at places like Ross and TJ Maxx. Even if they are too advanced at the time, I know I can use them later and anything less than $5 is a great deal!

Helping mommy make her first ever blueberry pie from scratch..or rather helping her eat the ingredients. :)

Jacob LOVES, LOVES, LOVES music! His daddy bought him his first guitar last week.

Aren't they both just sooo cute??

He was into his musical instruments this past week a lot.

Tot School Tuesdays

Hello everyone,

One of the things I hope to do here at The Bargain Woman is to get regularly involved with the ladies at Tot School and Totally Tots. I've been following Carisa and her beautiful family's adventures in Tot School for about a year now. Her site, and the others that link up, offer great ideas and activities for teaching and playing with your tot. Don't let the word "school" scare you because Tot School is about making play time into teachable moments. There is not rigidity to what I do, except that I enjoy making the homemade teaching crafts and turning every opportunity into a time to teach Jacob something new.

He is currently 27 months old and to my surprise about three weeks ago demonstrated that he recognizes about 15-20 letters in the alphabet, can count to 10 and count pictures in a book, and is gaining understanding of many of the shapes such as circle, heart, and star. He is, however, still having some difficulty mastering his colors, but I am not sweating it or anything. We just play and identify them as often as possible.

One of the great things that has come from Tot School for us is Jacob's love for books. While he does watch probably a bit more TV than James Dobson would approve, Jacob is very content to read. Most nights now, instead of calming him with a soothing musical video, we turn off the TV and go to his room with daddy for story time. He is so animated and just loves to act out all the scenes in the story. He and his daddy are a hoot and mommy enjoys sitting back to watch the show! :)

So here are a few pics from some of the things we do in Tot School. I hope on Fridays to do a post called, "Family Fun Fridays" where I will share the activities from our weekend family time. My husband is blessed to have a three day weekend every week (which is one reason we have decided to home school) and we really enjoy finding new adventures for the family. Last weekend we went berry picking and had a blast!

I've decided to join the Menu Plan Monday ladies to help keep me focused on my menu planning which is part of my new effort to organize and be more efficient as a biblical wife. Here is my menu for this week; let's pray I stick to it. I tried to pick recipes that I know I already have most ingredients for, but I will have to make a quick trip for a few items.

This was so fun; although a bit time consuming. The results, however, are quite pleasing. I have seen several of my friends posting on Facebook about their success with coupons and grocery gaming, so I decided to give it a whirl. All I can say is I can't believe how much money I saved and I CAN'T BELIEVE I haven't done this before.

Target was running a get $5/every 5 FiberOne products and you can stack manufacturer coupons with Target store coupons. You can get the in store Target coupons here and FiberOne coupons here. After stocking up on the FiberOne muffins, cereal, and granola bars, I used the gift cards to pay for my second transactions. Running two transactions also allowed me to use duplicate in-store coupons. Target will no longer let you stack store coupons in a single transaction. You, can however, use multiple manufacturer coupons for the same product.

There are several excellent websites to help you with collecting deals and bargains. For example below is an example of a deal I found out about at Target from Stretching a Buck.

Bargain #1 example:
Fiber One Cereal - $2.50/ea
Use $0.75/1 here or Use $1/2 here
I stacked this with the $1/1 General Mills Cereal Target coupon here.

Granted, I have enough cereal to feed my family for a while, but hopefully I will find bulk bargains on other products in the coming weeks. I averaged about a 55% savings at Target.

Since Kmart was running their double coupons through Monday, I made two trips which enabled me to take advantage of not only the double coupons, but I also got $5 off each order for spending over $50. You can also do two transactions, but I didn't have all my couponing finished when I made my first trip. The trick is to give them this coupon first before all the others and then your over $50 order turns into a $30 order. I averaged about a 45% savings at Kmart.

At Kroger I also racked up a 55% savings and at Food City I saved about 25%.

After trying this out this week, I've decided to do a couple of things here on the website. There is an actual website called The Grocery Game which is a great place to start. She actually has a plan that you can sign up for and pay a fee. I have decided I am going to try what I have done this week for this month, then I will give Terry's 4 week free trial a run to see if she can save me enough to justify the fee. I'll be sure to report my results.

Secondly, I am planning a give away to launch the site. I will bring more details soon, but I am planning on sharing some of the excess coupons I have as well as a free shipment of $50 worth of dry goods. So check back soon for the details.

Designing, Shopping, and Catching Up

Good morning,

Thanks to my friends who have already encouraged me, followed me (not stalked me :) and inspired me to do this site. I just wanted to drop in and give you an update.

First, please bear with me as I try to achieve the perfect look for The Bargain Woman. A great blogging lady and fellow sister, Amy Bayliss, has a lot of great advice on her site. I decided after reading this on her site, that I needed a cleaner and fresher look. Like her, I am creative and really like the graphics and pictures, but I must confess that I find myself often not drawn to those sites so why would I expect anyone to be drawn to them either? Hopefully, I will have the final look up and running soon, but just hang in there as we undergo the development stage.

Secondly, I want to announce that I have actually decided to launch The Bargain Woman with her own domain name so you can find her at http://www.thebargainwoman.com/ rather than the blogspot address. I am very excited about this and really hope it helps to encourage more readers.

Finally, I have been on my first very exciting and busy introduction to grocery gaming and have really racked up some great bargains. I can't wait to tell and show you all about it. Stay tuned later in the week for the final summary. All I can say is I can't believe I have resisted doing this for so long. It was very fun, exciting, and well...quite addicting to be honest. I think my hubby was ready to go back to work today because he just couldn't stand one more minute of exciting conversation about coupons and grocery bargain sites. LOL!

I must confess, however, one of my flaws is to jump into something head over hills and let all other 'responsibilities' fall behind, so this morning I am staring down a short week with an already VERY MESSY house, a few more shopping trips, loads of laundry, meal planning and prepping, and some major quality time catching up to do with my little man (he's had a way more than healthy dose of Noggin this weekend!) including some much needed Tot School time. Hello and welcome to Bargain Woman. If you are new to me, I am so glad you decided to stop by and I hope you will look around and get to know me better and leave a comment so I can get to know you better.

While this is a new blog, I am not new to blogging. I have been blogging since March 2008 and my first blog is titled One Sacrifice For All Time. I started blogging at the recommendation of my dear husband as a way to use my passion for writing and maybe make a little money on the side. We had both never heard of blogging prior to March 2008, but had seen an ad in the paper about stay at home mom's and blogging.

Well, a funny thing happened. I fell in love with it, but I gravitated to all of the Christian sites and started meeting many wonderful Christian men and women. I found myself desiring to share my walk with Christ with others and One Sacrifice was born. Since I saw this as a ministry and a way to share my faith, I felt it wasn't right to try to make money on the site so I never did. Fast forward a little more than a year and I thought maybe I would try my hand and blogging for money by sharing what I know and do as a diabetic educator and pharmacist (very very part time). However, after having the site up for about three months, it has become clear to me that I have no passion to write about it and it seems way too much like a job for me to ever put my heart into it.

I do, however, LOVE to share my walk with Christ and my passions in life which include my husband , my son, and learning to become a biblical woman and homemaker. I initially did this along with my devotions on One Sacrifice, but I just seemed to gravitate away from it over the past year. I have started following so many devotional and evangelical sites that adding in my homemaking sites was making it difficult to be very effective. Thus, I have decided to start this blog to devote to the practical aspects of following Christ which primarily include my main calling in life: to be the help meet to my husband, the mother to my children, and the keeper of my home.

The topics of discussion you will find on this site will be many, but will center around the mandate Paul gives in Titus 2:3-5.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. (Titus 2:3-5, King James Version)
