Replace Brake Pads And Rotors on Toyota Tacoma | Alright today we’re going to replace the brake pads on a ’98 Toyota Tacoma. It’s actually a super simple process. These are what the brake pads look like. I’m going to link these in the video description below so you have a quick and easy place to buy them from. Amazon has them for pretty cheap so go ahead and check that out. And then what I’ve done up to this point is I’ve loosened up all of the lug nuts on the tire before I lifted it off the ground. Then I went ahead and put the jack on the knuckle underneath the tire and that lifted the tire up and off the ground. And then I put a secondary jack right there just in case, you know, anything happens when the tire’s off the vehicle. That’s just more of like a precautionary thing. Now that the tire’s up and I have the lug nuts loose, I’m going to go ahead and loosen up the rest of the lug nuts and then pop the tire off and then I’ll show you the caliper where the brake pads are located.

This is called the caliper right here. This is what holds the brake pads. You can kind of see down inside of them right here how worn down they are. This guy is called the rotor and with the rotor, you can kind of see this is where the brake pads press against it to stop your car, and right now there’s kind of a little lip up at the top, and that just kind of goes to show like what’s being worn away when the brake pads clamp down on the rotor itself.

So for me it’s about time to replace my rotors as well. On the caliper itself, if you look around on the backside you’re going to see two 17 millimeter bolts: this one and then the one a little bit farther down. And those need to come out in order for the caliper to slide away from the vehicle. So I’ve pulled the caliper up and off the rotor itself, and I’ve also supported it with a little bungee cable so that it doesn’t put any pressure on this brake line right here, cuz if those break you’re in it for a much more expensive repair. So here’s how to release the brake pads: there’s this little wire thing that you just press down and pull out. And then you’ll be able to pull the wire out of each of these little pins. Then these pins come out like this and that releases the brake pads so they can slide out through the other side. Also this little metal thing can just be pushed down and then lifted up and out. It also helps if you take like a nail or something, or a screw, and stick it through that little hole.

And then you can hit the end of this and that will also push the little pins out. I found that that helped out a lot as well. Anyway, so now these two brake pads will fall through the other side. So one thing we have to do right now…as you can see with the old brake pads, they’re a lot closer together because they’ve been worn down so much. The new brake pads take up a lot more room. So what we have to do here on the caliper itself, we have to push back these pistons a little bit to make room for the extra thickness of the new brake pads so that it will still fit over the rotor when we go to put it back on. So inside the engine bay there’s this brake fluid box right here, so I’m going to go ahead and unscrew the cap of this and pop it off so that brake fluid will be able to rise up as I compress that piston down.

So I’m going to leave it on the top so no debris or dust falls inside of there. But since we don’t need the old brake pads anyway, I went ahead and tossed one of the old ones back in there and used a giant c-clamp to clamp down on the brake pad itself, which in turn is compressing these little pistons right here to make room. So with each turn of this, I compress that piston down just a little bit more. And then with the new brake pads remember that the holes on the top go inside the caliper so that those little metal rods can slide through them again. Go ahead and clip that up. Lock it in place. Now everything’s in place. The two pins, the metal plate, the little latch thing. I did have to rotate these a little bit to get the holes to line up for this little bracket.

Anyway, if you are going to replace your rotors, usually you replace your rotors if this ledge is too big or if it’s kind of jerking when you’re slowing down. When you’re compressing your brakes and the car kind of chugs, good chances are it’s the front rotors that are warped a little bit. All that these are is they’re just loose and you can just pop them off the vehicle like that. And that’s your rotor itself. And then that’s the part of your truck. So these are actually relatively inexpensive. I’m going to leave mine on for now. If you need to replace these I will link them also in the video description below. I painted these calipers probably about 2 years ago so if you want to see a video on how I did that go ahead and click right here and that will give you a little walk through on the type of paint that I used and the whole process behind that.

Anyway all I’m going to do right now is just pop on the tire and cap the brake fluid again after I finish the other tire. When you replace one set of brake pads you’re going to want to do both the left and right side of the vehicle. If you have any questions go ahead and leave them in the comments below. And also, before you drive anywhere you’re going to want to make sure to pump the brake pedal a few times and that will make sure to clamp the brake pads closer to the rotor so that you won’t have any delay when you’re braking for the first time. So make sure that you press on the brake pedal enough times till it feels like normal again. It’ll feel really loose for a little bit. Probably only took me like 20, 25 minutes to do one side of the vehicle.

2016 Toyota 4Runner | CarGurus Test Drive Review

2016 Toyota 4Runner CarGurus Test Drive Review | Hey, this is Mike Perkins from CarGurus, and today I'm driving the 2016 Toyota 4Runner. The Entune infotainment system gets a nice upgrade this year, and towing capacity is raised as well. This is the Trail Premium Edition, which means that it gets unique 17-inch wheels, a hood scoop, and some off-road goodies as well. Now here we have a locking rear differential and variable terrain and crawl modes, and if you're not really sure what those things mean, the 4Runner probably isn't for you. This is designed for off-road, and I don't mean pulling into the grass parking spot at your local campground.

So even right out of the showroom the 4Runner can handle some pretty gnarly terrain. It's got stock skid plates and part-time 4-wheel drive, and here in the Trail Edition you're going to get a locking rear differential, which will prevent that whole one-wheel-spins-while-the-other-one-refuses-to-budge issue. Plus you have variable terrain control as well so you can choose what you're going to be driving on - mud, sand, rock - and it'll adjust the suspension and throttle settings based on that just so you'll have the best traction. And that actually works with the kinetic dynamic suspension system here, which disengages the anti-roll bars when you're going over rough terrain for more wheel travel, but keeps them nice and stiff at speed, and it actually works really well.

For a tall SUV that weighs nearly 5,000 pounds this thing stays really flat in the corners, it doesn't roll too much at all. It's an impressive system. There is also crawl control, which basically acts as a low-speed cruise control. There's five different speeds you can choose from, and it'll just maintain that so you can concentrate on steering when things start getting a little hairy. The 4Runner has always been criticized for its low towing capacity. Even with a 270-horsepower 4-liter V6 here, it's got 278 lb-ft of torque, it still only manages a max towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. Now, that's up from 4,700 pounds from last year, but competitors can certainly beat even 5,000 pounds. So speaking of the interior, things are actually really nice in here. It's very reminiscent of the Tundra I had last week, but it's even better. The glossy trim here is black - it's much preferred over that metal-painted plastic that the Tundra had.

And honestly things just feel a lot more upscale in here than in that Platinum trim Tundra. The one thing I do wish it had was the knurled knobs that the Tundra was sporting. These just end up looking and feeling a little cheap, and this infotainment system, actually the whole thing just kind of sticks out here. It feels like somebody glued the whole system on after they were done designing everything else. And that little 6-inch touchscreen, while it works well, it just makes the whole thing look even worse, it makes that sticking-out feeling, just exacerbates it. The 7-inch would be really nice here. However, this year the 4Runner gets an upgrade to Entune Audio Plus, which has satellite and HD Radio, plus up-to-date HD weather and traffic. Even better, it gets standard cell-phone navigation integration. Just a lot of small updates that make things a lot more comfortable in here. Now that said, comfort's not really the 4Runner's strong suit. Even with these really nice seats and the upgraded suspension, things can still get a bit busy at speed.

There's a lot of bouncing around, and honestly it's just a testament to how much of a difference in ride quality the unibody construction actually makes. You know, with most crossovers, what you're getting is essentially a car, just with a truck-ish body on top. Here, you have an actual truck with a full frame, and you can totally tell, this rides just like SUVs used to ride - a bit better, but there is still a lot going on here. It's not going to be the ride that you're used to having in most other cars and crossovers. Now the Limited trim actually comes with full-time all-wheel drive as well as an adaptive suspension with dynamically adjustable adapters and dampers, but really if that's what your main concern is, why not just go with the one of the many many other crossover options out there that don't suffer from the negatives of the 4Runner, like the woefully bad fuel economy - just 18 miles to the gallon combined here.

Cargo space is really impressive. It's got 47 cubic feet with the rear seats up, and if you put them down, it's nearly 90, plus this one has an optional $350 rear sliding deck, although honestly it feels a bit gimmicky to me. If you're looking for a truly off-road-capable SUV, there really just aren't a lot of options out there. Now the 4Runner's been sticking true to its truck roots for nearly two decades, while competitors like the Explorer and the Pathfinder have all gone for compromises like all-wheel drive to front-wheel drive and unibody construction.

What you really need to do is be honest with yourself. Are you ever going to go off-road? If not, there are a lot of better options out there, but if you really need a truly off-road-capable SUV that's still great to live with every day, the 4Runner's a great option. Toyota Entune Premium Audio & App Suite Demo!

Toyota Entune Premium Audio & App Suite Demo! | Hey guys! Andru Edwards here from GearLive.com. Now that we've learned what we can get out of the Entune Multimedia Platform, we thought we'd give you a look at what Toyota offers in the vehicle to make your life a little more convenient and safe. So these are some features you'll find on the premium trim of Entune. First of, one-shot address, basically you use your voice command to enter the address that you wanna go to through your navigating system, you don't have to enter anything manually, you just use your voice to promote that safety and also get where you're going a lot easier. Here's how it works. First thing you do, hit the command button on your steering wheel. "What would you like to do?" "Address" "For directions to an address, please say the full address, including the city, and the state or province." "19001 South Western Ave, Torrance, California" "I heard, 19001 South Western Ave, Torrance, California. Is that correct?" "Yes" "Starting guidance for a new route" And as simple as that, you can be on your way, you can be driving, you can be at a stoplight, you don't have to be fully stopped so you can type something in.

You just do it with your voice, and you're on your way. One feature you'll find in a lot of vehicles now is pairing your phone with Bluetooth, which allows you to stream music, take phone calls, all wirelessly hands-free. So I'm gonna show you how to setup your smartphone with Entune Premium. Here's how you do it, for an easy shortcut, as you see right here at the top right side of the screen, there's a phone icon with a slash to it, press that and it takes you right to the bluetooth setup very quickly. Then, you're gonna wanna add a phone, and then on your smartphone, go into your settings, bluetooth, and turn it on, and then find the device, in this case Toyota Highlander, tap on that, and it's pairing as you can see was successful. Now, if you wanna be able to also get your notifications, you gonna wanna tap on the finishing icon, turn on show notifications, and now your notifications from your smartphone will appear to you on the Entune display, leaving you again hands-free with your communication.

Now, that bluetooth process will work all across Entune vehicles, again you just hit the shortcut on the top right side of the display to get started. Another cool feature you'll find inside the Entune premium trim level, is that you can actually cash am and fm radio. What I mean by cash is if you have something DVR or something that you could actually pause when your watching and then continue watching it later, you can do that with am and fm radio. Where that might be convenient for example is if you're driving along and listening to your favorite , let's say sport station, and a call comes in, the call will actually pause your sport show and let you take your call, and for up to 20 minutes it'll save the content, so that when the call ends, you can actually continue right where you left off. Now, if you change the channel or if you turn the car off, you'll lose what was saved but while you're driving, if you want it to pause you can do that and keep listening, so here's how you do it. At the bottom of the screen, you see there's a pause button right there, you can hit pause , and again while listening to fm radio right now.

As you can see, you'll see the timer right there, showing you how much we have recorded, again it can record up to 20 minutes. Once you're ready to listen again,let's say it's worth five minutes or whatever, all you have to do is hit play, and now you're listening right where you left off, you can rewind, you can fast-forward, or you can go right to live just like that, and you're back live where you're started. So, even if you hit live, it still maintains 20 minutes of content, so you can still rewind , if we record the first song, you can just go back full-tracks, and again go back to live.

Super easy, great feature right there. That is cashing of AM and FM Radio. Another way that Entune Premium trim helps you with distracted driving, and therefore convenience is by actually letting you see your text messages on your screen, even you haven't red to you, depending on your device, here's how it works. You're driving along and you get a text message, now as you can see, my phone got a text message and it comes up here, and came a text text message from Andy Lam, Ignore that or I can have the vehicle read it to me. "Gear Live and Toyota are awesome" You can read it on the screen itself or the vehicle can also read it to you and with some devices you can even respond with some context messages you know, I'm busy, I'm late, I'll call you back later, little things like that so you don't have to think about your response just hit something quick and get your eyes back on the road.

Super safe, super easy, nice feature. One new feature of the second generation Entune system is that, now when you get an incoming call, it doesn't have to take over your entire screen experience. I'll show you what I mean, so here we have our screen showing and when a call comes in here's what it looks like, do see when you have a call coming in and the entire screen just got taken over by that phone call, I'm gonna go ahead and say no, because that happened, I don't wanna take that call, because what if you're driving and you're paying attention to your map guide, you wanna see when your turn is coming up and a phone call interrupts that, you could get lost, so we can change that setting by going in the phone settings, phone display settings and change it from fullscreen to drop-down and now, when we get a call,let's see what happens here you go, phone call in progress with the incoming call right across the top, my map is still there, my weather is still there and I think the button if I should take the call or not is on the steering wheel.

I'm still busy driving and I better not be distracted so I'm just gonna let the call go to voicemail. But you can see that it didn't take me out of the experience that I already set-up and wanted to be in..
