    The Nonsuch has just one halyard to raise the sail (and this Nonsuch 33 has an Electric Winch to do that work, as easy as pushing a button the sail goes right up), and one line to control the position of that sail (again, with the Electric Winch, if you want). This is the famous Ljungstrom Rig which allows a single person to easily handle the driving power on this 16,500 lbs boat. This is the Rig for the Sailor who wants to sail when he wants to sail without having to line up some “strong lads” to hoist and control the canvas. With the Summer Sailing Season just around the corner, we're readying the Docks, preparing the Moorings, continuing the age-old annual tradition of launching the fleet. Soon the Long Island Sound will be filled with cruiser's enjoying the Boating Life.

This season make Barron's Marine your Marine. With your own mooring, you have access to water and electricity at the dock. Full-service facilities include indoor boat storage, wood-shop, shower and head. Feel free to bring your dinghy or kayak, however with seven-day a week Launch-service, getting to your boat at any hour is routine.

Nestled between City Island and Hart Island, our mooring field is protected in three directions, making the perfect anchorage to access the calm waters of the Long Island Sound, as well as safe harbor from the seldom downturns in weather. Our proximity to the Throggs Neck Bridge makes us a perfect stop-off for transients travelling into New York Harbor.

Along with your mooring, include fresh water, electricity on the docks, daily launch boat service, 24-hour limited access, and absolute privacy.

City Island Weathers Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene

Through intense preparation and with a little luck we kept Hurricane Irene from causing damage to the fleet. By mid-morning on Sunday August 28th, the winds had turned out of the west and Barron's Marine was spared from Hurricane-force damage.

However, not all of City Island fared well.

On the windward side of the Island, docks were sunk, crushed by the seas as boats broke from their moorings and washed up on the rocks.

This season has certainly produced some marvelous summer sailing. With record high temperatures on land, the wind strewn Sound has been a great escape from the heat.

Yet, the best days of sailing may still be ahead. Late season weekends can host some of the best, most consistent winds. At Barron's Boatyard, sailors are getting the most out of their boats, foregoing winterizing plans and necessary repairs to throw caution to the wind. Old Man Winter is due in soon. Until then, make the most of great sailing.

Among the half dozen Winter Storage Marinas and Boatyards on City Island, Barron's Marine stands out in size, and ability to host large vessels up to and above 50ft. Our facility holds more than One Hundred and Twenty boats, accessible electricity and parking. Our self-servicing policy means that almost all boat work and maintenance can be done, while we still offer you a full range of professional marine services including engine winterizing, shrink-wrapping, bright-work refinishing, mast-stepping, and boat cleaning.
