A Dubai sheikh died there, Beyonce has slept there and now it could be yours for a cool $80 million.

Palazzo Versace — one of the world’s first fashion-branded hotels — has been put on the market.

The 12-year-old hotel boats 200 rooms, its own private marina, three restaurants and an Oscar Oscar hair salon.

It underwent a multi-million dollar makeover in the past 18 months and despite the continuing global economic woes hitting the Gold Coast real estate market hard, McVay Real Estate principal Dan McVay – who is handling the sale of the hotel – said it was a perfect time to sell.

‘‘It’s time to sell, [owner] Sunland Group has had interested buyers ever since they opened the hotel and its unusual for a developer to hold onto a property for so long,’’ he said.

‘‘Developers build properties and then they sell them, that’s what they do.

‘‘…there will be a lot of interest, you couldn’t build this kind of hotel for $80 million.’’

Mr McVay is taking expressions of interest for the next six weeks and predicted the buyer would come from Asia.

‘‘It’s a very close next-door neighbour so I’m expecting some investment interest from Asia, probably China,’’ he said.

‘‘I doubt we’ll get any interest from Europe but we might get some from America.’’

Palazzo Versace was the brainchild of Sunland Group founder Soheil Abedian, who approached the Italian fashion house in 1997 with the idea of a Versace-branded hotel.

Three years later Palazzo Versace had opened its doors on the Gold Coast and has hosted a swag of international celebrities including U2, Beyonce and Jay-Z.

In 2006 the Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, died at the hotel after he suffered a heart attack in his room.

Mr McVay said the sale of Palazzo Versace would allow Sunland Group to focus on other projects including the development of a parcel of land in Alice Street in Brisbane.

Sunland Group last year received preliminary approval for a 47-story apartment block development called Carrington.

The $250 million residential tower will be built on the corner of Alice and Albert streets, opposite the city botanic gardens.

The futuristic style design includes a lower level architectural “skirt”, which the council’s development assessment chair Amanda Cooper described as innovative last year when the council gave the project the green light.

Hugh Grant wants a Terry’s Chocolate Orange for Christmas and Claudia Schiffer would like a male tortoise and trainers.

Schiffer and Grant revealed their Christmas gift wish lists for the annual Christmas Stocking Auction held Dec. 3 and organized by Macmillan Cancer Relief. “Dream stockings” full of gifts based on the celebrity gift wish lists were offered for auction.

Schiffer also wants a book about yoga, a box of After Eight chocolates, a bottle of red wine and Agent Provocateur underwear, reports the Daily Mail.

Grant would also like a Richard James shirt, Gucci sunglasses, three pairs of black Pantherella socks, and Adidas trainers

Hugh Laurie wants a Steinway concert grand piano, a Triumph 955i motorcycle, and a 30-foot yacht, reports the Daily Mail.

Scarlett Johansson says her Christmas gift wish list includes four more years for President Obama. “I hope 2012 brings a re-election for President Obama,” Johansson told Hollywood Life.

A pasta maker is on Taylor Swift’s holiday wish list. Swift says she also hopes to receive antique picture frames and “anything from Free People or Anthropologie,” according to People.

Brooke Shields wants fruit. “All I want for Christmas is something that will encourage my family to eat healthfully all year long, which is why I love the Harry and David Fruit-of-the-Month Club”, Shields told Shape Magazine. “It’s a long-standing tradition in my family that started when I was a kid.”

Sandra Bullock said her 2-year-old baby, Louis, will not get a Christmas gift. Bullock went on to tell Access Hollywood that she was only joking. Bullock said she actually plans to throw a lavish holiday party for Louis.

Avril Lavigne wants chef’s knives for Christmas. Lavigne also told Popcrush she’s received some strange Christmas gifts from her fans over the years, including a a wedding dress from a Korean fan.

Paris Hilton bought one of the gifts on her Christmas list in November. E!Online reports the 30-year-old heiress got herself a red 2012 California Spyder Ferrari worth about $300,000. Hilton bought the car on Black Friday, Nov. 25. The same day, Hilton posted a twitter message: “Just drove my new car for the first time. Such a beautiful car and so much fun to drive! I love it! #YES! I ♡ Fast Cars!”

Gary Busey, star of “Celebrity Wife Swap,” told FOX News he’s sending his love to everyone for Christmas, and in return, he’s looking for love. “All I want for Christmas is love and respect,” Busey said.

Justin Bieber says underwear is on his Christmas gift wish list.

Hollywood Life reports that Bieber told Hollywood Teen TV he wants briefs, and some family time. “For this Christmas, I just want to be with my family,” Bieber said. “I don’t really have any requests…except for socks and underwear because I just run out of them a lot.”
