109 bar girls held in Mira Road raids

MUMBAI: The social service branch of the Mumbai police on Saturday night raided several dance bars in Mira Road. A total of 109 bar girls were arrested in the raids, reportedly carried out following instructions from state home minister R R Patil.

A police team swooped down on Red Alert, Red Horse, Mili, Saddel Up and Millennium 2000 bars located near the Thakur mall at Kashimira. The Kashimira and Mira Road police were caught unawares. Police sources said that secret chambers were busted inside the bars. It was in these chambers where bar dancers and customers were hiding.

According to police sources, Patil, who had led the campaign against dance bars that led to its ban in August 2005 had received several complaints about the bars mushrooming beyond the Dahisar check naka. The Thane (Rural) police are believed to have been pulled up by Patil for failing to take action against such bars.

As soon as the raid party swooped down on the bars, there was chaos. Bar girls were seen running for cover. The raids began at 10.30 pm on Saturday and continued till the wee hours of Sunday. The police recovered over Rs 5 lakh of cash.

The bars in Kashimira double up as brothels that work till 3 to 4 am, especially on weekends, sources said. Two buses full of bar girls were brought to the Thane court on Sunday afternoon. The police also arrested the managers of the bars. Customers however, were let off by the police, said sources.

Thirty miles west of the taj mahal, on the road to the pink city of Jaipur, tourists on buses pass a sight that the guide books rarely mention.

Suli, 14, is a virgin and a bidding war is being held for the right to be the first to sleep with her.

The collection of shelters where she lives houses 59 families, all members of the Bedia tribe, which has a long tradition of caste-based prostitution. Girls born here become prostitutes in a rite of passage into “adulthood” as routine as marriage is to the rest of Indian society.

The “first time” is a valued commodity for which the middle-class businessmen who pass this way are prepared to pay a premium.

The normal rate is 100 rupees (Â£1.30) but a virgin is sold to the highest bidder for anything over 20,000 rupees. If she is very pretty, the community would hope to get up to 40,000 rupees. For this, the man can have access to the girl for as long as he likes - several hours, days, or even weeks. When he tires of her, there is a celebration. Because it is considered unlucky for a girl to keep the money from her first time, it is spent instead on an extravagant party. Jewellery is bought for her and for her relatives, goats are slaughtered and alcohol runs freely. There is dancing, and offerings are made to the gods.

Once a girl has lost her virginity she cannot marry. The choice has been made and the community celebrates it - this is her non-wedding night.

Suli said she was happy to enter the trade. “I chose it,” she said, though she admitted being “a little” frightened. “I do not know how it is going to be. I know other girls who are in the trade but I have not asked them how it is.”

She claimed it did not matter what the man looked like. “I will go with whoever pays the highest price,” she said, before running off as her mother called her for supper.

Nita, a virgin in the hut next door, has four sisters, all prostitutes. She wears jeans and a skimpy top, and giggles a lot. One sister boasts that as Nita is particularly pretty, they hope to get 40,000 rupees (Â£600). “We have been offered 25,000, but it is not enough.”

Nita is only 13 but has opted to follow her sisters into the trade. It is her own “choice”, because, she giggled, “I won’t have to do any housework.”

A police raid on a dance bar at 1 am today led to the recovery of Rs 11.29 lakh and the arrest of nine bar girls. The social service branch of the Mumbai police also arrested the manager and cashier of Star-night bar in Santacruz.

"The bar is said to be very high profile, with several rich and celebrity customers," said R. R. Joshi, senior police inspector, Social Service branch.

"We were tipped off that the bar was kept open till late in the night and had dancers. We sent in fake customers to verify the information. After they confirmed that the allegations were true, our officers raided the premises. We saw the customers showering money on the dancers," said Joshi.

The owner of the bar is still on the run, added Joshi.

26 people held during Dhadkan bar raid

Police Thursday, Jan 1 2009 IST arrested 26 people, including 24 bar girls, and seized Rs 1.33 lakh during a raid at a bar in suburban Goregaon here.

During a raid at Dhadkan Bar in the wee hours, police arrested the women as they were working beyond the prescribed time of 2130 hrs and engaged in indecent activity, Social Service branch of city police said. They also nabbed the bar manager and cashier. The accused were later granted bail by a local court, police said

"why cant this social service branch arrest the cops who come daily to Dhadkan bar to collect their so called as "hapta" i have been there plenty of times and seen all these cops. They come from Dindoshi, Gorgaon, and Mahananda police stations; they also take away alcohol, water, and snacks to have party in so called as petroling van...... i guess these buyz have not reveived their Hapta yet....! Mumbai, Nov 11 : Twenty-three girls were arrested by police for allegedly making obscene gestures at patrons sitting inside a bar at Dahisar in North Mumbai late last night.

Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Social Service Branch (SSB) raided Ashish bar at Dahisar at 0030 hrs and arrested the girls along with 11 orchestra singers. They have also seized Rs 3.20 lakh cash during the raid.

The officials also arrested hotel manager Chandar Bhala Upadhya and cashier Vinay Shukla. However, the bar owner, S Sheety, is at large, police said today. ’’The girls were not dancing but were making obscene gestures at customers by coming close to them or also from a distance,’’ said Senior Inspector of Police R Joshi of SSB. Under the law, girls can only work as waiters serving food and liquor till 2130 hrs inside a bar. But in this case, they were found making obscene gestures, he added.

Friends. Greetings..!

It’s been a long time since I have made any posts in this section. Have done lots of research but couldn’t find time to post it. Anyways today am gonna show you some pics of "Dhadkan Restaurant & Bar"; this is an orchestra bar. Surprisingly sometimes this bar remains open till 3:00 in the morning.

I used go visit this bar very frequently and got to know loads of stuff about the "ladies bar" life and their operating. Have recorded lots of conversations with the bar girls as well as the staff.

This bar is 1+1; means an orchestra bar at the ground floor and upstairs the recorded music is played.

I have taken pictures of both the floors..! :)

The below given pic has been taken on the ground floor; unfortunately the girls are not visible in the pic because that day the police we visiting the bar very frequently. So, they sent all the girls to some secret hiding place.

Raids were conducted at "Sunday" and "Madhuban" bars in Sector 17 of Vashi area, a police official said.

They have been booked for indecency, he added.
