So there was a sample out in a good sized bottle and i must admit it smelled very similar to FFL. the berry overtone was paramount, subtle, and totally reminiscent of it, maybe not as elegant but noteworthy nonetheless, plus, for 99 cents, at around 3.4oz, that's pretty good.

Anyone else smelt the 99 cent version? :D

Have seen this online (but not in shops) selling cheaply. Reviews and notes on BN sound good and am considering as blind buy. Generally referred to as typical 80's masculine scent with good longevity .

Have seen it compared to Chanel Pour Monsieur, which I really like, but doubt if it can match that one. Interested to hear what anyone thinks abut it.

The other frag I'm thinking of is the original Carlo Corinto, agin selling cheaply online - any opinions there welcomed too?

'...Last summer I was in Isham Park, above 207th Street, and smelled a phenomenally seductive scent. It was exquisite. It completely refused the current ultra-neon, sweet pop-music tropes currently in vogue, as well as any trace of freshness or citrus or the anorexic oceanics of the 1990s. It was, rather, a rose-jasminic floral with a touch of aged wood of wonderful heft and substance — completely coherent, with shadows, lights and darks. I followed it about 40 feet and finally stopped before a woman, 50-something. When I asked her what she was wearing, she regarded me skeptically. “Aromatics Elixir.” “When did you put it on?” “A bit over an hour ago.”

It was perfect. Deeper and more thoughtful than 90 percent of the launches in the 21st century, as well as expertly constructed. ...'
IE, I've got a crapload of fragrances that I wouldn't mind making other products with in addition to spraying myself with them :)

On occasion Caldey Island Lavender is discussed here and generally in positive light.

I went to the their website and note Caldey Island has several other fragrances, none of which seem to have been discussed here!

Here is a list from their website:

NUMBER ONE: Elegant and light - delicately balanced with undertones of jasmine and rose

ISLAND BOUQUET: Smooth and luxurious - a deliciously rounded perfume with a classic floral bouquet

ISLAND GORSE: The aroma of gorse - capturing the rich wild sweetness of spring

ISLAND FERN: Crisp and fresh - a leaf green fragrance with a breath of woodland magic

ISLAND MADRIGAL: Subtle and sophisticated - with an enticing hint of spice

BROCADE: Alluringly feminine - with a woody tang and a touch of tropical mystery

ISLAND ROSE: The classic fragrance of roses in summer

CALDEY FOR MEN: Wholly masculine - blending subtle strength with restained notes of incence and spice

Anyone try any of these? Any opinions?

In praise of miniatures: Cute money-savers. WHICH DO YOU RECOMMEND?

I was planning to start a thread about miniatures when Nostalgie's velvet settee (http://community.basenotes.net/showpost.php?p=1558774&postcount=25)...

I was planning to start a thread about miniatures when Nostalgie's velvet settee gave me an idea. That stunning and appropriate backdrop to her new coffret inspired me to find some suitable support for a photo of my favorite minis. Voila: Barbie's & Midge's official queen-size chifferobe*. Isn't it wild how the minis look like giant store factices in this context?

Anyhoosits ... on the subject of minis, there's much to praise:
• Cuteness ~ Like jewelry, small bottles possess a charm reserved for only those things small.
• Concentration ~ Minis usually provide higher concentrations (parfum or eau de parfum), which mean they can fragrance you longer than larger quantities of more dilute solutions.
• Savings ~ As with samples and decants, minis keep you from spending money on juice you'll never use up. They can even pay for themselves (she rationalized) if they help round up a store order that then qualifies for free shipping.
• Scent-split options ~ Some companies sell three-packs (called refills or travel-size bottles) of their scents. That's how I got the Sel de Vetiver (far left)--Haunani, Redneck and I shared a purchase from Four Seasons. Also pictured are Boucheron edp, Yves Rocher Iris Noir edp, and Henry Dunay Sabi parfum.

Since I've been a member here for a fair amount of time (shortly after Basenotes crawled out of primordial ooze and began walking upright), I don't recall us devoting much attention on minis, so let's. What do you appreciate in miniature form?

*From Christmas 1965. Mom and Dad never threw anything away, and Mom wrote the date on the back of anything that would hold still. Bless her archival ways.
