Speaking of Andy Warhol, one of life's little treasures is the mens cologne called simply "Pour Homme" by Andy Wahol which came in a metal box with huge dollar signs on a field of green with signature. Inside the box is a bottle of the juice and a watch. All kind of cheap in appearance until you try the juice. Some Base Noter's have done a good job of reviewing it so I will not compete where a good job has already been done. I think this gift set may have some collector value later on but, it is also a good way to acquire the juice which is quite nice. I have stored the box and have yet to change the battery in the watch but, the juice is under refrigeration. You can still find these boxed items from time to time. IMO worth consideration, they can be had fairly inexpensively.

These others are either dollar store pickups like glass bowls and sand or thrift store finds for very cheap like the wooden box I altered with more of that pliable sheet metal. These cheap items work terrific.

Hey guys,

I bought a brand new bottle of Heritage from a friend @ staff price and it turns out to be the newer bottle. He told me 50ml is not available. However, a few months back i remember that Heritage is sold in 50ml Bottles. When i finally got it yesterday, the box was different than the "standard" box. i also noticed that the top notes of lavender and bergamot are more muted than the last time i tried. The drydown is still amazing but somehow or rather it feels toned down. The vanilla and sandal drydown accompanied by patchouli and (iris root?) was amazing and they were so hard to tell!

Then i checked the Guerlain website and saw that the notes listed were a bit different than the one listed here. I also find Heritage to be more wearable than i initially thought (when i tested it out earlier this year i find that it was too strong and complex for daily use) so my question is: did Guerlain redesigned/remarketed Heritage to make it more wearable? was there a reformulation?

This is what mine looks like:

Hi all,

I just received my bottle of Burberry London (somewhat blind buy, tried it once and thought it was ok, then looked on the forums for a winter scent) because I wanted a nice woodsy scent suitable for the cold weather and maybe doubling up for evening wear. However i've been wearing London for the day now and it's just not doing it for me. It's much too sweet, all I can think of is cherries throughout the entire progression. The drydown is actually really nice as there's a tiny bit of the sweet cherry I can still pick up, but the tobacco and wood notes balance it out. However by the time it does dry down, it's already starting to fade. and I just can't shake the cherry during the first 2-3 hours; I feel like i've spilt cherry coke on myself.

Ever since I tried Td'H, i've been obsessed with finding a warm, woodsy, almost earthy masculine scent that would be good for evening wear during mild/warmer days, but also able to double up as something suitable for these colder times during the day. I know this is a pretty tall order for just one single scent, but who knows, maybe i'll get lucky?

I have some paper tests with some smell faintly left of Gucci's Envy for Men and Pour Homme II, but there's something just a tiny bit off for both. Envy I feel is a bit too mature for me. It's certainly sophisticated and perfect for evening wear, i'll give it that, but I feel like I need to be in a suit or something to pull it off. PH-II is actually very nice, but doesn't feel quite as warm and inviting...it has faded quite a lot though, so i'll probably need to go try this again sometime soon.

Anyway, in summary I guess i'm looking for a warm and inviting woodsy fragrance, suitable for evening wear during most seasons, but also suitable for daytime during these colder days. Again apologies for being so horribly specific and picky. Hopefully there's the perfect scent out there though!

...

I have seen several threads where people are wondering what fragrance to wear to a job interview,
church, funerals, to surgery, etc. etc. etc.

The recurring piece of "sage" advice I see thrown out is usually something like:

with all the allergies out there, you don't want to cause anyone to have a reaction, anaphylaxis......

I am a physician, and I don't buy it.

Let me start by saying I am NOT an allergist or dermatologist, so take the fact that I am a physician with a grain of salt. I will say, though, that I know more about immunology than the average person. Most people who have allergies to specific antigens suffer from contact dermatitis. Atopic and contact dermatitis are VERY common in the general public. Unlike contact dermatitis, the physiologic mechanism behind atopic dermatitis is less well defined. The reason I bring this up is that I have seen people use the terms interchangeably and they are not the same disease.

Most people with an unknown nidus for an allergic reaction get asked a serious of questions by their doctor in an attempt to narrow down the possibilities. If that fails and the reactions continue, they may even have antigenic testing to figure it out (although this is usually done to track down an allergy to food). No allergist would ever tell a patient, well if nothing else, tell your co-workers to stop wearing lotions, perfumes, stop using scented detergents, etc. etc. They would tell the patient to stop, as it may be the cause of their CONTACT dermatitis.

I have never seen, nor do I think it could ever be definitively proven, a case of anaphylactic shock, or even a simple case or urticaria (hives) attributed to a perfumed substance IN THE AIR. Now, do not confuse this assertion with perfumes in general. Contact dermatitis could definitely produce a severe reaction in a sensitized individual if they placed the substance on their skin.

Theoretically, if I sprayed 15 shots of Vetiver on my neck, walked past someone with a severe allergy, tripped, fell onto their neck with my still wet coating of Vetiver, maybe, just maybe then I could trigger some allergic dermatitis.

People get easily confused between a sensitive nose and an allergic sensitivity. Pollen in the air is also a CONTACT allergy with a substance in the air. An allergic reaction to someone's fragrance is no more likely than an allergy to the smell of raindrops on cement, or the smell of rotting fish in a lake, or an ocean breeze, or hot pavement, or a fire, or of a pine tree.

Next time someone tells you they have an allergy to someont else's cologne, ask them what symptoms they have. I can't tell you how many of my patients tell me they have an allergy to a medication, and when probed they tell me that it causes a headache, or an upset stomach, or makes them tired.
