BAT Toastmasters Club - The Halloween Meeeting

BAT Toastmasters Club held its 39th Club Meeting on Wed, 23 Oct. The theme was "Halloween". The Club President, Richard Ng CL, delivered another of his profound speeches - this time on how every one of us "wears a mask" at one time or another, when we interact and react to people's expectations of us.

Club Meeting #33 - 24 July 2013

Another fun-filled club meeting was held at the Dunhill Room. Our guests this time included Past Area G3 Governor, Chan Siew Peng ACS ALB, who gracefully accepted our invitation to be the General Evaluator; and Joseph Wong CC (VPE II, TAR College TMC) who delivered a very entertaining project speech from the Advanced Communication Series' Storytelling manual.

Three club members delivered their project speeches yesterday:
- Tan Soon Shuen did a wonderful Ice-breaker speech on her nomadic growing up years (for those of you who missed her speech, go ask her). Of course, she received a standing ovation at the end.
- Andy Yeoh nears the completion of his Competent Communication manual by delivering an informative Project 8 (Getting Comfortable with Visual Aids) on "The Human Life Cycle".
- IPP Lee Han Ther CC completed his final project from the Advanced Communcation Series' Special Occasion Speeches manual with an unusual take on "Speaking in Praise": he delivered an eulogy on himself!

Our no-nonsense General Evaluator, Chan Siew Peng ACS ALB, delivered a meticulous, concise evaluation on all aspects of the club meeting. Thank you, Siew Peng!

The Table Topics session was expertly handled by our VP (Education) Goh Ser Yoong, and the new deck of Table Topics cards purchased from Toastmasters International was put to good use.

The Evaluation session proved as entertaining and educational as the Prepared Speeches and Table Topics sessions, as the participants learn from more experienced speakers on what they did well, and areas where they can improve on in future speeches.

Timer, Brajesh Kumar - who derived great pleasure from sounding the "Death Bell" at any recalcitrant project speaker who chose to ignore his red light.

Tan Li Li, our very interesting Ah-Counter - she only counted each speaker's speech crutches up to 7. She then "disqualifies" them. Thanks, Li Li, for making us laugh!

There were some special awards given out, including Half CC ribbons to Lim Chu Beng and Andy Yeoh for completing more than 5 CC projects.

Congratulations to our IPP, Lee Han Ther, on obtaining his Advanced Communicator Bronze award. Well done!

Toastmaster International (District 51, Division E & G) Club Officers Training (TLI 1)

The first Club Officers Training in the new term 2013-2014 was held at Stamford College, PJ, last Saturday, 13th July 2013.

Each club has to have at least 4 Exco members to attend the training, in order to earn 1/2 a DCP point. BAT Toastmasters Club was represented by Andy Yeoh, Tan Li Li, Tony Lau and Peter Yeoh.

Attendance at a COT training is crucial for Exco members of each Toastmasters club, in order to keep abreast of new developments in the Toastmaster fraternity, besides networking with fellow Toastmasters from other clubs.

Area E1 ISTT Contest 2013 : And Our Champions Are.....

The Area E1 ISTT Toastmasters Contest hosted by our club has been successfully concluded 2 weeks back. It was the first area contest hosted by BAT TMC club and this event would not have been successful without the help of all the organizing committee members' effort and contribution.

The contest begins slightly behind schedule with the Organizing Chair, Goh Ser Yoong, TM calling the meeting to order. Without further ado, the OC welcomes everyone and invited BAT TMC club sponsor, Rainer Lippert up the stage for his opening address.

BAT TMC IS TT Contest 2013

The BAT Toastmasters Club International Speech and Table Topics Contest for the year 2013 yesterday and the event was a successful one indeed, with guests and participants from various clubs as well as support from non-club members for the contestants! A big thank you to all members that have contributed to ensuring the contest is a success.

We were honored to have Geoff Andrew, DTM from KL Advanced / Premieree Advanced TMC as our Chief Judge for this contest. Besides that we also have honorary guest, Francis Ng, DTM from Money Mastery TMC as well as Rueben Raja, CC from Bangsar TMC.

Guests started arriving as early as 11.30am for lunch and a bit of get to know each other with the club members. Food and drinks were served immediately and though they certainly looked good, but unfortunately, perhaps due to butterflies in stomach for the contestants, there was plenty left after the contest.

At 12.00pm, the Sergeant-At-Arms for the day, Mohammad Towhidul Islam, TM called the meeting to order with some briefing on house rules. The SAA then invited the Organizing Chair, Joel Wee, TM, whom started the contest with his welcoming speech to the excitement of all attendees. This is followed promptly with Richard Ng, TM taking over as the Contest Chair for International Speech.

And the contest begins!

Both the International Speech contestants are seasoned speakers and they are none other than our club president, Lee Han Ther, CC and Vicknaeswaran Sundararaju, TM. Speeches went underway in no time.

Everyone had a 5-minute break after the International Speech contest is completed. And the SAA then called upon the Table Topics Contest Chair, Goh Ser Yoong, TM to kick-start the next contest. After briefings are done on the contest rules, the contestants are escorted out to the waiting area by SAAs while the first contestant, Masheed Ahmad, TM remained. Topics was chosen by the Chief Judge from 5 auspicious CNY packets and the 4 contestants soon took their turns to squeeze their brain in the effort to answer the statement to their best ability.

Theme: Ushering in the New Year

If there's any way to wait for 21/12/2012 to arrive for the world to end, BAT Toastmasters club did it in style by having its 23rd Club meeting on the 19th of December, 2012 celebrated the year end / new beginning (if the world has not ended on 21/12/2012) gracefully with the theme being Ushering In The New Year!

This meeting was called to order by Sergeant-At-Arms Rachael Renita, TM at 12.15pm, slightly behind time (yet again). That's strike two as the previous meeting was also late in starting.On the other hand, this meeting was quite unique in the sense that it was a Project 2 speeches marathon, i.e. all the project speakers were doing their project 2 speech! We were honored with the presence of Shell Cyberjaya (CBJ)'s toastmaster club's president, Tuan Hui and he took up the role as the general evaluator for the day.

Table Topics Session:

Table topics session was conducted by TM Vicknaeswaran and in conjuction with the date and latest craze on Gangnam style, the participants was treated to a Youtube video and spoken in relation to the video. Yet another new idea of conducting table topics by our favorite table topic master. :)

Unfortunately yet again, there wasn't any recording of the evaluation session this round, perhaps everyone was still amused and entertained from the table topics speakers.

Apologies to our dear readers as due to some minor logistics mix-up, we will proceed with our first meeting blog post with the Bring Your Friend Day meeting instead of the Exco-Installation meeting as promised.

BAT Toastmasters 22nd Club meeting on the 24th of October, 2012 celebrated the Toastmasters “Fellowship” gracefully with the theme being Bring a Friend! Each of the club members were encouraged to bring an outside guest to the meeting to experience the professional meeting with interesting speeches and mind-boggling table topics as well as success celebration at the end.

This meeting was called to order by Sergeant-At-Arms Marvin Miod, TM at 12.15pm, slightly behind time as our President, CC Lee Han Ther was accidentally locked out of the meeting room for a few minutes. Anyways, please follow the link below to watch the opening speech video:

Welcome to the home of BAT Toastmasters club. This is our inaugural post and what is better than to be greeted by all the members with a group photo taken from our recent club's First year anniversary-cum-new-exco-installation celebration.
