It is this status that made Lipa a city. Coffee is still the major crops planted and traded in the city. Though the production is not as big as before, Lipa still provides quality coffee to its drinking patrons.

The province is also a home for a wild civet cat, locally know as alamid. Before, farmers used to kill the cat because they eat the coffee beans, especially the ripe one. Until the discovery of the most priced coffee out from the poo of the civet cat. It became known worldwide because of its unique taste. A cup of this coffee even priced as high as $50.

Civet cats are nocturnal animals that use their sense of smell to pick the ripest coffee cherries. They eat the outer shells of the coffee cherries. Their bodies can't fully digest the coffee cherries, but as the beans pass through the civet cat's digestive tract, the enzymes and acids involved in their digestion process affect the beans, giving the coffee beans a distinct new flavor.

In Brgy. Sto. Nino in Lipa city, there is a cooperative who deals with this lucrative business of gathering civet cat poo, processing them and selling as coffee. They are the Malarayat Coffee Farmers and Consumer Cooperative. They currently have more than 50 members who are helping on their venture.

In 2005 however, their mother Corito was diagnosed with a terminal disease. To help her recuperate from treatment, the family oftenbrought her to the garden because the place made her relax and temporarily forget her sickness. Two years later, Coritofinally succumbed to her illness.Her husband together with his 4 childrenthen decided to focus all their efforts into making the garden a paradise since she loved the place so much. They wanted the beautiful memories they shared there to live on thus the creation of Cintai… love for their mother and love for his wife.

Cintai Corito’s Garden is an hour drive away from the bustling city. It is a perfect place to unwind, relax and meditate. It offers 2 pavilions that cater to special events such as weddings, debuts, birthdays or corporate parties. The Garden also has 18 villas, each uniquely designed, available for rent. Guests can enjoy the use of 4 swimming pools of different sizes during their stay. They dance in the streets in celebration of the feast of the humble smoked fish called the tinapa that fed multitude of peasants and laborers. It is a a three-day affair that showcases a trade fair of agro-industrial products, lectures about livestock raising and food processing, and food demo competition.

The event is held every year to promote the local tinapa industry as well as to boost local tourism industry.

Fishing season in Lemery starts from November to May. Bountiful catch of tulingan, galunggong, tamban, dampilas, milkfish, among many others are unselfishly blessed by the sea. So abundant the harvests are that fishermen usually sell a substantial portion at very low price. With this, the local government introduced the tinapa-making business, a solution to the excess catch.

History

Excited the people were, the Department of Agriculture introduced the skills and proper training for the people in the coastal areas in making tinapa and assisted to start business. Right after, they aimed to create a wide market for the new industry and promotion, thus the birth of the Tinapahan Festival.

Since no town in the Philippines has claimed to be the Tinapa Capital of the Philippines, through continous effort, Lemery has earned the title. They may be the country’s producer of best tinapa.

Compared to the usual reason to celebrate a festival, as commemorating something that has been an integral to the life and culture of a place, the Tinapahan Festival is the reverse, using the festivity to incorporate the celebration to the lives and culture.

Soon, street pageant and group dancing competition were organized. On the morning of May 1, the people of Lemery has celebrated their first festival as the street pageant paraded and danced in the thoroughfares, and converged into a humble court at the back of the municipal hall.

Floats from private sectors populated the streets while contingents of the local governmnent walked in bright yellow peasant costumes.

Main part of the parade was a competition for the court dancing tilt, participated by five schools of the town. The competition began in the court where contestants made good use of any tow of the things used in making tinapa such as fish nets, bilao of fishes, baskets, and round bamboo.

Sugar is considered as a major industry, in which the municipality of Nasugbu ranked 2nd place after the Haciend Luisita in Tarlac.

Central Azucarera Deon Pedro is the current largest sugar producing company located in Nasugbu Batangas. It is able to provide the refined sugar requirements of traders and industrial cusotomers such as multinational food and beverage and pharmaceutical companies in Luzon.

The company is under the new name Roxas Holdings who was just recently reorganized towards new investment. The Roxas patriarch, Don Pedro Roxas is a Spanish who was once considered as one of the richest man in the Philippines in the 19th century. The company is now under the management of Antonio Roxas who is 65 years old.

Brief History

After the Jesuits' departure 140 years later, vast haciendas of Nasugbu, Lian and Calatagan were leased by the King of Spain to Don Fernando de Araya, a Spaniard. Upon the expiration of the lease, the Nasugbu Estate was sold by the King to the Isaac family, the head of which was a Spanish mestizo.

When Isaac died, his widow Isabela sold the estate to Don Jose Bonifacio Roxas, also a Spanish mestizo, in the 1830's. Don Jose foresaw the commercial potential of sugar cane and planted large areas of the estate to produce it. His only son, Don Pedro Pablo Roxas, managed the estate during the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution.

Don Pedro's son, Don Antonio Roxas saw the need for a modern milling plant for centrifugal sugar. A sugar mill was thus constructed in 1912 in the barrio of Looc, which was transferred in 1920 to Sitio Campo. That mill, named after Don Pedro, was transferred to Barrio Lumbangan where it has since grown to become the Philippines' largest manufacturer of refined sugar. Central Azucarera Don Pedro (CADP) has continued to be a dominant presence in Nasugbu.

It has also donated the lands on which now stand the Plaza de Roxas, the town plaza; the church of the parish of St. Francis Xavier; and the munisipyo (municipal building).

Most of the coconut fruits are being brought over to various places for sale. We had a small piece of land with several coconut trees planted on it.

Every month, coconut harvester or "magbababa" as we call it come and climb to the tree to pick the fruits. I was a kid then and was so amaze as how they go up the tree so fast and the way they bring the coconut fruits down from the top of the tree using a long rope.

Then another set of people will bring the harvested fruits near the road for easy loading. They use a bamboo stick, large enough to support loads of several buko attached on both end using a rope.

It may sound strange but this thing is for real. Batanggenyo like me grew on this kind of medicine that we can easily purchase in sari-sari store. Though in some part of Batangas, this is not a known fact. I’m surprise that my girlfriend from Rosario Batangas didn’t know about it so I take time to do my research and here it goes.

Magasawang gamot refers to a combination of antibiotic Chloramphenicol with the analgesic/antipyretic paracetamol. Drug trade is not strict in the Philippines so people can easily buy medicine over the counter. They usually remember the last medicine that they used and work out so they use it again the next time to save the hassle of going to a clinic for checkup. Most especially in rural areas where the nearest doctor is several kilometers away.

It is usually taken as a single dose for a variety of illnesses and complaints: flu-like syndromes, colds and febrile gastrointestinal diarrhea disorders. The antibiotic part of the combination has been substituted with amoxicillin. A second or third dosing is determined by the user, depending on severity or persistence of symptoms.

Cost of ready-to-dispense, cellophane-wrapped single-dose magasawang gamot: amoxicillin 250 mg and paracetamol 500 mg is ranging from Php 8 to Php 12.

No wonder they choose sinukmani as their pride and highlight festival, considering that they produces rice for the region. Local residents of around 200 establishments were able to make 462 meters of sinukmani stretching on the street. On top of this rice delicacy are peanuts, marshmallows, crispy rice and coconut shavings.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_p4pp9fAC3-U/TQZHqcB5QSI/AAAAAAAACLo/pMeQkNbzwaQ/s400/sinukmani-festival-4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5550202385184932130" />

The celebration was celebrated successfully this year with the participation of all its barangays. Architecturally designed with vast open spaces, it offers sweeping views of the sea. Scattered around are groves of trees, left to grow in their natural habitat, that frame the view from each of the decks of the nipa and bamboo cottages.

Relaxing comes so easily that one almost forgets that Balai is just minutes away from some of Batangas' most colorful dive spots. Open everyday and all year round, Balai offers SCUBA diving and other sports equipment to guests who are out to discover the wonders of another world under the sea.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_p4pp9fAC3-U/TOFWqbTBo3I/AAAAAAAACLI/b4xr9u3y52Q/s400/balai-sa-laiya-anilao-1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539804303524471666" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_p4pp9fAC3-U/TOFWmPZ1XmI/AAAAAAAACLA/blv2UJBoDIM/s400/balai-sa-laiya-anilao-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539804231612325474" />

Rates

A. It started as a sister company of Carfel Shell Export which was then among the top shell exporters of seashells and handicrafts in Asia, supplying shell shops and shell collectors worldwide with specimen shells as well as rare collectibles. Carfel Seaventure Phils. was one of the country’s pioneer dive companies that offered dive tours, SCUBA instruction, equipment sales and rentals.

In 1991, the company ventured into the resort industry and established Vistamar Beach Resort & Hotel in Anilao, Batangas, Philippines. Strategically nestled between sea and lush mountain, its modern 4-building hotel has 96 rooms that provide comfortable rest and leisure for up to 500 hotel guests. The sprawling 3 hectare resort can hold up to 3,000 day trip guests at any one time, making it the biggest picnic destination in the area.

Anilao is widely acclaimed for its crystal clear water and rich marine life, a haven for water sports enthusiasts. Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities during their stay, from quiet walks to exhilarating water sports. Aside from providing guests with the latest amenities, it is the only resort that boasts of an impressive marine seashell museum, which makes one’s visit truly memorable and educational.
Just recently, Carfel-Vistamar Inc. opened its own SCUBA training facility in Makati—the Vistamar Dive Center. It has a one-of-a-kind training pool that has dual levels (5 feet and 15 feet deep) and viewing window that offers an eye level view for observers during actual training sessions. Among the country’s indigenous energy resources, geothermal is the largest source of electricity with an estimated total untapped potential of about 2,600 MW.

Source: www.businessmirror.com

This tree adapts easily to the temperature of Batangas, as well as the soil contents and nutrients. The tree is very useful in various things, especially it's branches.

Marikakaw tree usually grew up straight, so big tree's are ideal for a house pillar. Those who are orchid lovers also know that most of the woods used in their orchids, with a concrete cement stand, is marikakaw. Smaller trees and branches are mainly called "urang" in our Batanggenyo dialect. It is used mainly for firewood in bakeries and other similar establishments that uses it. And for those not so big branches, it's used mostly for vine plants like beans. I remember my uncle always putting one in every "sitaw" he planted. The vine plant use the marikakaw branch for growing upward.

This tree is truly connected and plays a very important role to a Batanggenyo like me.
