Free money? What a crazy idea. No one gives away money, right?

Wrong. Because when you make contributions to your companies 401(k) savings plan, you usually get matching contributions. It really is like getting free money.

What's that? You say you haven't enrolled in your companies 401(k)? Well, why miss out on getting your free money any longer? If you haven't already enrolled, consider joining your companies plan. Enrollment is simple! Or, if you already participate, consider increasing your contribution to 10 percent--the very least you should be contributing is your companies match, but you should really contribute more if you can.

Here's how matching contributions work. For every dollar you put in to your 401(k), a portion of your contribution will be matched by your employer. This can very with employers, but usually it can be anywhere from 2 to 6 percent of your contribution. I many cases, if you are not considered a highly compensated employee, you can contribute up to 15 percent of your pay to your 401(k).

Why contribute more than 6 percent?

If you contribute more than 6 percent to your companies 4019k), your company may not match those contributions, but there are reasons to contribute more than 6 percent.

The more you contribute, the more you reduce your current year's income tax liability, since your contributions are made with pre-tax dollars.
Generally, any earnings on your contributions also grow tax-free until you withdraw them. So, your tax savings compound year after year.
You're going to need income after you retire. If you don't set aside money now, chances are you won't have the income you need and want at retirement. One way to start saving is to make contributions to your 401(k).

Growth and Choice

Your companies 401(k) will usually f=give at least five different investment choices for your money and the company match. Plus, since it's a "tax-qualified" plan, you generally don't pay income taxes on your savings and earnings until you withdraw them. That lets your account build up more quickly.

In an emergency or to pay for your principal residence, college expenses, or unreimbursed medical expenses, you may be able to get your money through a hardship withdrawal. You should be keep in mind that, although there may not plan penalties for a hardship withdrawal, there may be both federal and state penalties.

You can also may be able to take out loans from your 401(k)--to buy your personal residence or for another purpose. I've been tempted many times to take out mine to buy a replica Batmobile, I'm standing pat. However, the interest you pay on your loan is not tax deductible.

The January 2018 Goals and Plans Reaction

The Batcave Toy Room is beginning to take a new shape with plenty of Star Wars and Batman toys to come.

Oh, he's not dead. Not yet anyway.

I'm alive...alive! I have not posted this regularly since 2015 and more than likely those that have followed me in past, haven't even noticed that I am back. Recently, Brian over at Cool and Collected, did a post on how the great toy bloggers of the past have closed shop and left the planet.

I'd like to think that I am included in that list of bloggers, who gave up the ghost. In my case, and not
necessarily speaking for anyone else, but we took the quick and easy path. Becoming slaves to Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. I know this because I am friends with many of them on social media and I can see they fell into the same old dull routine too.

So, I picked a pen and some paper and made personal plan. Not writing strictly of toys, but changing the format instead. So, I wrote on my blog again and felt the idea wasn't half bad.

If you hadn't noticed the Toy Room now has a financial theme behind it, which my finance background provides me with my other passion...money. This has given me a fresh perspective and at least for me, has sparked a new interest in writing. It is also helped me get back in gear with other areas of my life as seen below.

What I committed to for 2018:

I committed to writing at least one post a week on this site and by golly gee I've done just that. Every Wednesday in January, I did a post, which included the format for the blog. February continues with that goal as this the first post of the new month.
I committed to completing one new Cosplay costume every six months. This site does have paid advertising on it and I received a check for $100.22 in advertising revenue this month. I put that money to use by buying a new component for my next costume.
I committed to getting the rest of my crap cleaned and the new toy room ready for display. This had already started at the end of 2017, but people can now walk in the room (actually the toy room is now a loft) without getting killed. Displays of Pop Culture goodness is in full swing.
I committed to reading at least one new book a month. Didn't quite make this one yet.
I committed to losing ten pounds by March 1st. I lost 6 pounds in the month of January. If the pace keeps up I expect to achieve or even surpass by goal.
I committed to staying away from people who suck the life out me. 2018 has started off to a great start as I have been re-connecting with old friends. We've decided to get together for a movie night with a Mystery Science Theatre flavor to it once a month and just have fun.

The Wants and Needs Paradox

There is a definite difference between needs and wants

Anytime I ask a toy collector or cosplayer what holds them back from achieving their collecting or costuming goals, the answer is always...money.

Some are responsible adults and pay all of their bills and look at their hobbies as wants, working on their costumes and purchasing toys only after they put food on the table. Others, look at toys and costumes as needs and make those purchases first,
to ultimately end up short on their rent or car payment. Some people just don't see the difference between a need and a want. If that's you, let's take a look at how to find a way to satisfy both.

What Is A Goal

A goal is an achievement you consider important enough to work for. Owning a complete run of Kenner vintage Star Wars action figures, career, spiritual, educational, and health goals are just a few of many that might be important to you, But no matter what your personal goals are, chances are it'll cost you money to reach them. So you need to set financial goals to reach your personal ones.

I am going to ask you to write down your goals. I am also going to ask you to sort your goals by wants and needs and by whether they're short , intermediate, or long term. Why do this? Because it will help you set priorities. You see, once you figure out how much it will cost to reach your goals, which I'll show how to do shortly, you'll probably find that you can't afford them all. At least not right now. That's why you need to identify which are most important and which you want--or need--to reach first.

Wants and Needs

Wants are goals you'd like to meet, but even though only a Sith deals in absolutes, they are not absolutely necessary to your health and well being. Only you can decide what's a need and what's a want. For some people, a mint in box removable cowl Mego Batman is a want. A vintage Kenner Yak Face is a want. So is buying a home or funding a college education. For others, those goals may be needs.

Unlike wants, needs are necessary to your financial or physical well being. Insurance to protect your property, your income, your savings, and your family is one example of a need. Savings to cover a financial emergency---most experts suggest you put aside at least six to nine months salary in liquid investments for this purpose---is another. Paying off your debts---especially credit cards---is yet another need, because finance charges can cost you 15 to 20 percent or more over the original price tag of your purchase! And enough money for your retirement is also a need.

Time to Reach Your Goals

Some wants are short term---like going out to dinner tonight. And some are intermediate-term---like going to Star Wars Celebration 2019, wherever it may be that year. Similarly, some needs are short term---like paying rent and car insurance, and buying food and clothes for work. Some needs are intermediate term---like building a savings fund. And some are needs, like looking forward to a secure retirement, are long term.

Here are some guidelines for sorting your goals based on time:

Short term goals are those you'd like to accomplish over the next year or so.
Intermediate term goals are those you want to achieve over the next two to five years.
Long term goals are those you'd expect to take more than five years to reach.

Setting and Saving for Your Goals

Below are instructions for setting your goals, assign priorities to them, and figure out how much you need to save each month to reach them. To see how I set and estimate the cost of my goals, Make 7 columns on piece of paper, spreadsheet, or whatever works best for you and follow the 7 easy steps below:

Write down your goals in Column 1, sorting them by time (short term, intermediate, and long term). Note that the most common intermediate and long term goals--a car, a home, a college education, and a secure retirement---should be included. If these don't apply to you (other than retirement, which is a need for everyone), simply leave them off, and add others that do apply.
Note whether your goal is a need or a want in column 2. This may help you determine the priority, or order of importance, of each goal to you.
In column 3, number your goals in order of importance. Remember your priorities may need to change when you learn the cost of your goals.
In Column 4, write the number of months in which you'd like to accomplish the goal. For example, if you want to save enough for the down payment on a car in three years, write "36 months" in this column.
For your short and intermediate term goals, add any estimate costs in today's dollars in Column 5. (For goals you want to reach in less than five years, you can disregard the effects of inflation and any interest your savings might earn.) If you don't already know the cost to reach your other goals, shop around! Look into discount "price clubs," discount stores, etc. You can use "ballpark" figures for planning purposes.
For your short and intermediate term goals, figure out the amount you need to save each month to reach each goal by dividing the amount in Column 5 by the amount in Column 4. Enter this amount in Column 6.
For long term goals (those you want to reach in more than five years), it's impossible to precisely predict the effects of inflation or interest, so be sure to review your estimates fro long term goals every three to five years.

Making Choices: Setting Your Personal Priorities

When setting your goals, you may find it difficult to decide which are important to you. If so, you are not alone. Many people have trouble choosing between spending for what they want and what they need. How do you start making choices? One of the keys to financial planning is realizing that---unless you're very wealthy--you can't have everything you want. You need to make choices by setting priorities and making compromises. In other words, follow the process above and figure out the goals that are most important to you, and put those that are less important aside for the time being. Be sure to plan your actions and choices so you're in control. Otherwise, you risk letting circumstances control you.

The It All Starts with Your Goals Effect

Mapping your own road map is easier than finding Luke Skywalker.

I can relate to the comparison between goal-setting and following a road map. Although, I will admit, I don't always do it myself. I do know the quickest way to reach your destination is to plan a detailed road map to get there. And once you're on the way, continue to check your progress to make sure you stay on course.

Financial planning can be just like toy collecting. You need to set your goals, chart a course of action for reaching them, check your progress periodically, and make adjustments when necessary.

But before you can get there, you need to figure out how to get where you're going, you need to know where you are today! You can do that by figuring out your net worth: the amount of money you'd have if you sold everything you own and paid off all your debts today. If you check your net worth regularly -- say every year or so -- you'll know if you are making progress on your financial journey.

Net Worth: Your Starting Point

A Net worth statement is a tool that you can use to determine whether you're putting money away in investments that you can draw in the future. Figuring out your net worth may take a little time, but it's an exercise worth doing at least once a year. Why? Because the process of figuring out your net worth helps you answer these important questions:

Are you spending money faster than you're earning?
Is your debt under control--or are your debts growing faster than your investments?
Have you set aside enough cash to get you through a financial emergency? Or would you have to sell something just to get by?
Is your emergency fund large enough?
How much are your investments earning? Is your net worth increasing?

By reviewing your net worth each year, you'll be able to spot your own financial trends. For example, you want your assets to increase faster than your liabilities. If they're not, you need to understand why.

3 Easy Step to Determine Your Net Worth

Write down the current value of everything you own (your assets)

Investments such as your bank account
The fair market value of your home, other real estate you own, art, toy collection and other collectibles. and your car.
the cash value of life insurance policies.

2. Now right down everything you owe (your debts and liabilities):

credit card debt;
mortgage, car, student, or personal loans;
property or income taxes.

3. Subtract your total liabilities from your total assets. What's left is your net worth. (if you owe more than you own, this amount can be less than $0.)

If your net worth is negative, you are most likely in debt and don't have any kind of savings. Are you choosing your wants, such as new toys, or are your needs being met first?

You Can Get There if You Plan Synchronicity

Keep your head out of the clouds and make a plan.

How do you pull your dreams out of the clouds and down to Bespin so you can reach them? Like any other place you want to go, your journey to reach your goals requires a map--or a plan. Maybe your goal is to have a new Sideshow Collectible action figure. Or a new car that doesn't break down once a month. Or a Wayne Manor of your own with space for your growing family. Or you might be thinking of a longer-term goal--like a replica Batmobile from Fiberglass Freaks. Um. I mean a college education for your children or a comfortable retirement, for example. Or maybe all of the above. Well, to make any of these goals a reality, you need a plan. A financial plan.

When you develop a financial plan, you set specific goals and attach price tags to them. then, you start making trade-offs. For example, you might be dreaming of a new car, but decide instead to save the amount of the monthly car payment for your child's college education. Decisions like this are part of setting priorities--in other words, deciding which goals are more important to you. The outcome of this process? You make the most of your money.

At the beginning of the year I shared one of my goals for 2018, of putting together a new Cosplay costume every six months. In order to that, I've started to set aside $50 every payday. However, something had to be cut from the budget in order to save the funds necessary to achieve that goal. By nature, staying at home and cooking during the week is the norm for me. Typically, I would eat out all weekend long, whether it was fast food or a sit down dinner. Eating out also tends to be one of my biggest expenses every month. I love to cook. So, by just eating at a home another day or two a week, I am not only able to meet my costume savings goal, but saving extra money for something else important to me, like a honeymoon to Disneyland.

If you already have a financial plan, that's great! But now is the time to review your goals and set your priorities. Even the best plans may need to be adjusted now and then if personal or economic conditions change. When you've finished setting your goals for the year, you'll have made good progress on one of the most rewarding journey's you'll ever take.

Stop dreaming of what could be and make a plan

We all have dreams. Some dreams are fantasies; they're fun to think about, but we don't expect them to come true. Other dreams reflect goals and ambitions that are important to us.

We may dream of having the world's greatest toy collection, being a popular cosplayer, or doing some adulting and dream of buying a home. Continuing our education. Or living comfortably during retirement.

Well, the truth is, most of us can't have everything---at least not all at once. On the other hand, we don't have to give up everything we enjoy to meet our future goals! Whatever your dreams may be, they can only come true if you stop dreaming and start doing. The secret of getting what we want now and in the future is good planning.

You Can Make Your Dreams Come True

Sometimes we're torn between dreams for the future and those we want to come true now. When we dream about a goal that's important to us, we may tell ourselves, "You can do it if you put your mind to it." Then another voice might remind us that we work hard and deserve some pleasures now, such as picking up the latest Star Wars toys, buying a new Batman cowl, eating out, buying new clothes, taking weekend trips, or going to concerts.

Whether or not we fulfill our dreams depends on the choices we make each day. You can choose to spend your money for today, or "spend" your way to your dreams so you and the people you care about can have a better life. It may not always be easy, but it doesn't have to be all sacrifice. Even if you feel you are living from payday to payday, you can make choices that allow you to enjoy your life today---and make the most of your money for the future.

The New Year Resolve Antidote

Toasting the New Year with plans and goals for the future

I've ditched resolutions this year in lieu of goals.

To resolve is means to find a solution to a problem. However, I don't think that resolutions are attempts to solve problems, but they are generally ways we want to grow and improve ourselves. At least they are for me.

Whenever I have made resolutions they have always been goal driven and are intended to better me in some way or another such as lose weight (improve health), save money (improve finances), go back to school (gain knowledge/increase income), etc.

To me it always seems that when people make resolutions they just don't stick to them because they aren't specific enough. People say. "I am going to lose weight," when instead they should be saying something like, "I'm going to lose ten pounds in the next three months." I've been guilty of this myself and as a matter a fact, I've have not set any specific goals in quite some time.

When we say something like, "I'll try." We just don't commit ourselves. Trying is failing with honor. So, instead if you say, "I'll be there at 8:00, I'm doing this right now, I will have a set a time frame and do it!

What I am committing to for 2018:

I'm committing to writing at least one post a week on this site starting now. It's going to be different than what you've seen in the past, but it will be more in line with the tagline "Better Living Through Toy Collecting." It will however include toys, Cosplay, and other Geeky things.
I'm committing to completing one new Cosplay costume every six months. The clock starts now. So, by June 2018, I'll have a cool new costume to share.
I'm committing to getting the rest of my crap cleaned and the new toy room ready for display. This already started at the end of 2017, but I'll be able to walk in the room without getting killed by the first of March. Damn! I have a lot of stuff.
I'm committing to reading at least one new book a month.
I'm committing to losing ten pounds by March 1st. Hey, I have a unitard I need to fit into.
I'm committed to staying away from people who suck the life out me effective immediately. If your Debbie Downer and just aren't fun anymore...you're out.

This year is going to feel so good. So, this is what I am committing to for 2018. We'll revisit in December and see how I did. What are you committing to in 2018?

Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con 2017...Big on Security, but Even Bigger on Fun

Kikibell Cosplay rocks her Tinker Bell/Rebel Pilot mashup at the 2017 Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con

Geek Life Industries' Batcave Toy Room was on the floor at this years 5th annual Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con held at the Las Vegas Convention Center June 23-25. Amidst the updated safety procedures of banning several types of cosplay weapons and props, this years event housed a record breaking 33,000 attendees.

Aside from the usual creativity of Coplayers in attendance, this year also appealed to Geek Culture in the way of celebrity appearances. Marvel Comics Legend Stan Lee was in attendance along with actors from the Star Wars franchise, Ray Park (Darth Maul) and Peter Mathew (Chewbacca). Although, the late Adam West was scheduled to appear before his untimely death, Batman co-stars Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, and Lee Meriwether also made an a showing.

After a man carrying a loaded gun was arrested at the Phoenix Comic Con a month prior, Cosplayers were ask to dress down a bit weapon wise. A small inconvenience for being able to attend a Con that was tons of fun.

Seventy-five percent of our work force is unhappy. Why? To me it because most people aren't doing what they are meant to do. A Hundred years ago most people went to work for themselves. They learned a trade or used their natural talents to make a living for themselves.

With the rise of corporations people traded their abilities for security and the promise of a secure future, but those days are long gone. You have to get out there and follow your path. No one is going to do it for you.

Don't be afraid to share your talents and abilities. You're not showing off, you're just doing what you are meant to do. I mean, is it showing off if somebody's doing the things he's capable of doing? Is a bird showing off when it flies?

We're all searching for our purpose in life. I feel deep down we know what we want to do, but their are those who are lost and don't feel like they have a purpose. One thing I do know and that is you are here for a *reason*. I don't know whose reason, or whatever the reason is...but I do know it's to be who you are called to be.

What if a child dreamed of becoming something other than what society had intended. What if a child aspired to something greater. Even if it takes the rest of your life, you owe to yourself to find out what that reason is.

The world needs that special gift that only have. The Force...It's calling to you. Let it in.

Do You Have Time For Your Toy Collecting Hobby?

Between "adulting" and everything else life throws at me, I find it hard to pursue my collecting interests, much less maintain my collection of ephemera. How do you manage to have "Geek" time?

Do you block time out per week?
Do you live a Geek lifestyle and collect 24/7?
You have no time and fit it in once in a Blue Moon? Whew! 2.7 years is long wait between collecting.

The Impedimenta Obstruction

You should have seen the blood.

Behind this door is...a lot of stuff.

Actually, behind it is a room full of impedimenta that when cleared will be the start of something cool.

As of now, I've been stockpiling it full of the past as I shake the remains of a time long since forgotten. Well, stored away, but never forgotten.

Until this obstruction is cleared the project I have in the works will not be started. If I truly want what I want bad enough, the clearing will need to take place in order to move forward in life in more ways than one.

So, here's my plan for my "stuff" overload or unload as it were.

Resist more stuff - I'm going to take a breather from ephemera collecting. Until I get a handle on what I currently have, there is no sense in bringing in more and adding more clutter.
Release what I don't need - If I haven't used it, worm it, or looked at it over the past year, it needs to go.
Recycle what doesn't get released - The items I let go will mostly likely be donated for someone else to use, but there are items that can be repurposed and used elsewhere.
Resell what is left - My toy collection is heading for a big purge. Aside for the more recent '66 Batman collectibles, my collection will primarily be reduced to vintage items. More than likely, I will be focusing on high quality, more rare specimens.

Sometimes projects can be overwhelming, but if you break it down, it really isn't that bad. One small task everyday can add up to be a huge accomplishment over time. This is stage one of an overall plan to live the Geek Life. De-cluttering, setting goals, and taking baby steps, feels oh so good.

The Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con 2015: A Look Back At The Best In Cosplay

Las Vegas may have reached record temperatures the weekend June 19 -21, but the 113 degree heat wasn't the only thing that was hot in Sin City as a myriad of Geeks stormed the South Point Hotel and Casino to attend the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con. The convention returned for its junior year bigger and better than ever. Boasting high profile guest that included superstar comic book artists like George Perez, Rob Lifled, Steve McNiven, and Greg Capullo, as well as, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle co-creator Kevin Eatman, pop culture TV favorite John Barrowman (Arrow, Doctor Who) and many more.

Once again this year there were Coplayers galore! As always Steff Von Schweetz was one of my favorites as Carrie Kelly Robin and later in the weekend as Rocket Raccoon. I was also hypnotized by the Penguin's umbrella, a TIE fighter pilot in his morning robe and slippers, and a couple of Jokers.

I Have a Dream...To Make a Living Being a Geek

I have a dream...to do what I think about daily and that's being a geek.

Popular Cosplayers are paid to travel the globe and earn an income selling merchandise based on the characters they portray.

Jordan Hembrough collects and sells vintage toys and even has a reality show.

Steve Sansweet is one of the biggest Star Wars fans in world and ends being head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm and having the biggest Star Wars collection in the galaxy.

These people live a life that I not only dream of, but that I want. Geek part is down pat. Need to use my skills and serve a purpose. It's in the works.

What's your dream? What's stopping you? Or is nothing stopping you and you're living the dream?

The Failure Variable

It doesn't matter if you win or lose, but that you try.

Nothing ventured...nothing gained. Does the fear of failing have any correlation with actually failing? And if you do fail, does that mean you give up?

Many people do more than anyone could possibly imagine, yet still feel like they can't get over the hump, are behind the curve, and ultimately like a failure.

What is failure? It's a moment in time when an expectation isn't met or a project isn't completed as planned.

The feeling of failure is often perceived through the stories we play in our heads. Or from people who tell us the same stories.

If you have an itch you will scratch it and if you believe your false presumptions then they will forever dominate your destiny.

Feel don't think.

The Cast of Characters from CWs Legends of Tomorrow

Oh, I'll just do it tomorrow.

What is always coming, but never arrives? Tomorrow. Because when it gets here it is today.

Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can do today.

Making decisions or completing tasks on time can be a struggle for me. Not due to being lazy or irresponsible, because my mind is full of options and possibilities. Choosing just one can be problematic for me. It's easy to avoid making decisions because I am an over thinker. I obsess and dwell in the depth of my own mind.

It's never too late to start over. If you weren't happy with yesterday, try something different today. Don't stay stuck. Do better. Organize that toy collection. Finish that next Cosplay. Get that project started. Pick one and do something already.

Are there enough readers to even keep the lights on anymore?

It's been more than a month since there has been any kind of post here and it's definitely not due to lack of the ability to produce content or any kind of time constraints. Well, actually, if you follow me on Facebook, you'll see my time is spent doing plenty of Geeky things and pretty busy for sure. Lot's in the works, but no sense of focus just all over the place.

I just had the urge to write at the moment. I guess the Toy Room, the actual room itself as well as, the blog or maybe something else, is attempting to get my attention or is looking for some clarity or focus as I mentioned a couple of sentences ago, but I figured I would get something on paper, touchpad, keyboard, whatever for the sake of getting something on paper, touchpad, keyboard, whatever. Just a post to talk, no thinking of any sort of topic or pics to take and upload, just write.

Lots of ideas, just write and see where things head. Something wants to be born or possibly be re-born for that matter. What's happening? Let's chat.

Calling all Superheroes! The Children's Discovery Museum Recuits For Superheroes Day

Rocket Raccoon stand tall during Superheroes Day

Have you ever wondered what sort of superhero you would be if the opportunity was given to you?
Could it be Solar Power? Can you whip up tornados? Could you travel back to the prehistoric times? What better place to decode your inner hidden powers than the children's discovery museum! On August 1st The Children's Discovery Museum gave the Las Vegas community the opportunity to test out their abilities and brains for Superheroes Day!

Within the vibrant lively chambers of the Children's Discovery Museum was an ocean of superheroes of all ages. In every direction symbols of justice were proudly displayed. There was no doubt that calendars were marked all across the city for this convention for aspiring geeks.

Arts and Crafts were endless as The Children's Discovery Museum held activity booths scattered around the floors. True identities could be safely concealed behind masks. Costumes were geared up with utility wrist bands. My eyes took in hundreds of unique superheroes this universe has yet to know. Some of my favorites had to be the colorful Marvel tutus and a cape with "MOM" in Superman's notorious S-Shield.

Vegas Batman and Critical Care Comics always answer the call to lend a hand in the Vegas Valley

You could always tell when a hero was making an appearance nearby as the excitement became nearly overpowering! At one point in Fantasy Festival the stage starred Wonder Woman with both Spiderman and Batman on either side of her. My guess was that with all the new sidekicks The Gotham Knight recruited that day Robin is taking a mini vacation.

The Huntress is ready for action for Superheroes Day

Superheroes Day made me wonder if I look just as enthusiastic at the conventions I attend! One thing I really liked about this event was that it was everything but limited. Among the comic book inspired superheroes I also saw various appreciation for video game characters like Super Mario, and Disney's beloved Buzzlight Year and The Incredibles. Imagination was continuously growing where kids could experience their own 'Day in the life of an Adult'. I mean, who wouldn't like a Jamba Juice smoothie from Xmen's Storm? Or to see Spiderman and Batman shopping down the same isle at your local grocery store?

Holy Catastrophe Batman!

Just to be clear off the "Bat", the above caption is from the packaging of Mattel's latest Batman action figure and does not have direct correlation with my opinion of this toy. Or maybe it does. So, with out further adieu, To The Batcave!

Well, not really the Batcave, but another revamped version of Mattel's original Classic TV Series Batman action figure. It appears to basically be a repackaged Batman figure, which includes an interchangeable Adam West sculpted Bruce Wayne head, and is consistent with Mattel's typical style of repurposing it's figures.

I think Mattel really made an attempt to hide the fact this is a repacked figure as it could have been simply called Batman with removable cowl and accessories or something to the effect. However, I feel even Chief O'Hara could see through that ruse.

Third times a Charm!

As a completest I felt I the need to add this in my collection and I actually went on the hunt to three of my local Toys 'R Us to finally find the last one on the shelf at the third store.

The packaging states says, "Includes Batcomputer +15 Accessories." However, by my count the 15 accessories includes the Batcomputer and the Batman figure itself. Kapow! Another one Mattel's dastardly ruses!

The Batcomputer on the TV series

The 1966 Batman TV series featured the Batcave extensively, and portrayed it as a large but well-lit cavern filled with all sorts of computers and devices.

In keeping with the show's camp style, a number of whimsical devices were portrayed as part of the cave's computing suite. These included:

Bat-diamond (power source for the Batcomputer, must be far more pure than a natural diamond, it is well over 10,000 carats (2.0 kg))
Accelerated Concentration Switch (increases computing power of Batcomputer when it is strained)
Dual Identity Bat-sensor
Bat-analyzing Gears
Batcomputer Ingestor Switch
Batcomputer Bat-resistance Signal (light comes on when the Batcomputer does not understand the question)
Special Escaped Archcriminal Bat-locator
Bat-correction Signal (alerts Batman or Robin when they say something incorrect)
Anti-crime Voice Analyzer

Batcomputer Input Slot (enter some information source, such as a phone book, so a search can be performed)
Illustrated Bat-slides (Alfred created these to be more informative than the usual cue cards)

The "Batcomputer" was actually surplus equipment from Burroughs Corporation and was one of many pieces of such equipment not only used in the Batcave in the 1966-68 Batman TV series, but also in other 20th Century Fox TV productions of the period, such as Lost in Space and The Time Tunnel (coincidentally, the former aired in the same time period as Batman during 1966 and part of 1967). Not All That Bad

Overall, it does make a nice addition to my Classic Batman TV Series collection and if you didn't get a chance to get the first released figure now's your chance, but come on Mattel. How about making an actual Batcave playset? Or taking Figures Toy Company's lead and giving us some fresh characters. Maybe you've heard of Egghead, Mr. Freeze, Bookworm, King Tut? Perhaps not. In the long run, here's to next years release. Or is this the end?

Mattel's 66' Batgirl SDCC Exclusive

Holy femininity! Mattel has finally made the Dynamic Duo into the Terrific Trio.

When comparing Figures Toy Company's production of '66 Batman action figures with Mattel's, the later has been definitely slacking. While Figures Toy Company has been regularly cranking out new characters from the beloved Batman TV Series, we have been lucky to get one figure a year from Mattel since toys based on the TV series had their initial release. Although new figures have been promised, toy collectors and Bat-Fans finally have their yearly fix fulfilled by Mattel with the addition of the Batgirl action figure as a San Diego Comic Con Exclusive.

Batgirl, Batgirl

The figure comes in the likeness of actress Yvonne Craig in her iconic Purple and Yellow attire and the Fem Fatale fits right in with her previously released counterparts of Batman, Robin, Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman. She has 16 points of articulation and stands 6 inches tall. She also comes with a base for display, as well as two retro city back drops.

The Domino Dare Dolls Appearance On the Batman TV Series

Batgirl was introduced during the third season of Batman as ratings had fallen by the of the end the shows second season. In hopes to attract new viewers, Executive Producer William Dozier decided to introduce a new female character. Although, Bat-Girl originally appeared as Batwoman's niece in Batman comics from 1961 - 1964. A new version of the character was introduced in issue # 359 of Detective Comics as Commissioner Gordon's daughter, Barbara, in 1967 and it was this version Batgirl that Dozier asked Batman comic editor Julius Schwartz to further develop the character.

In order to convince ABC executives to introduce Batgirl as a regular on the show, a promotional short was filmed with Yvonne Craig as Batgirl and Tim Herbert (Whitey from the first season episodes "A Riddle A Day Keeps The Riddler Away/When The Rats Away The Mice Will Play") as Killer Moth. The ABC executes bought the idea and Batgirl became a regular for the shows final season (1967-1968).

On the show, Batgirl's true identity was unknown to Batman and Robin, and their true identities were unknown to her, only Alfred, Bruce Wayne's Butler was aware of Batgirl's identity.

Reportedly, Craig felt a connection to the character she portrayed on TV and complained to DC Comics about her fate after Barbara Gordon was shot and paralyzed by the Joker on the 1988 graphic novel, Batman: The Killing Joke.

Other figures in the line have come in a typical blister card style. However, Mattel went a little bit further with Batgirl giving her a window box. Although, from behind her packaging looks identical to her counterparts and keeping with a similar style artwork. The rest of the package resembles a smaller scale Batman and Robin 2 Pack.

Batgirl came to be a bit of a pricey figure with a total cost of $28.08 with shipping and tax and was originally available at both the 2015 San Diego Comic Con and Online at Toys 'R Us.com. She is currently sold out. So, if you really want her in your collection you'll want to run by your local Toys 'R Us and pick up the Batman, Robin, and Batgirl 3 pack for $49.99. Hopefully, you don't already have the Batman and Robin 2 pack. Otherwise, you'll be getting them again, but hey, at least their capes are different.

Will there be a Batgirl Batcycle? Will our favorite purple clad, crimefighter need to hitch a ride from Batman? Tune in Tomorrow…Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel. One hint…the worst is yet to come.

Marvel's Strangest New Hero Ant-Man Is Anything But Small On The Big Screen

It’s time for another Marvel film to take over the big screen this summer. Thanks to Maximum Comics I was able to see Ant-Man before most at their special screening that took place at Town Square, Thursday, July 16^th at six pm. Though I have to admit by saying I wasn’t making major plans to see Ant-Man immediately upon its release date, how can you turn down the offer to a special screening where the nerd community gets together for a movie night like one big family?

Among the crowd many wore red and yellow buttons adorned with sketch heads of Ant-Man or Yellowjacket compliments of Ninjabot. These accessory pieces were handed out upon entering the theater. Across the lobby it was easy to identify who was apart of our own colony. My evening was already promising to be one I wouldn’t regret.

After grabbing our soda (candy already long-since devoured) I sat with my friends surprised by the little display of prizes at the foot of the theater. The audience became an uproar of excitement for Maximum Comics’ ticket raffle. Winners were awarded with Ant-man themed goodies and praise.

Without giving any spoilers away I can safely say that Ant-Man is one of the funniest and strangest Marvel movies I have ever seen. The movie hit the ground running since the opening scene. We are met with familiar faces – one a personal favorite – as well as references that had the audience’s reactions me with cheers and laughter.

By the end of the night I can definitely say that this was an experience that was anything but small. As always Marvel has met up to yet another fantastic action-packed movie. Whether a person is familiar with the superhero verse or not, Marvel rolls out enough for anyone to enjoy beloved stories and characters as many have over the decades.

So. Should you see it? Definitely. Just note to stick around for two surprise scenes between the credits!
