Someone’s been neglecting their updates, but I can assure you that you didn’t miss anything. Just like everyone else, I’ve been hibernating on and off over this winter. I probably would have slept all the way through but I’ve been tricked on several occasions that it’s spring here in Brooklyn. Like today it’s nearly sixty-five degrees here. When I woke up I did what every other bunny does and I checked the internet for the latest stuff.

I found the craziest thing. This person on flickr took a photo of a tiny bunny every day for a year! Who would take a picture of a bunny every day? That takes a lot of work and commitment to keep up with the little creature. They call it “One Object 365 Days Project” and it’s the cutest tiniest little pink bunny in all sorts of places. Go check it out here.

I was thinking maybe I should do something like that? Can an object take photos of another object? The thought of it is so weird, my little bunny brain hurts.

If you squint you'll see the Capital behind me

I came all the way to Washington DC because I heard there were grassroots movements going on here. It’s hard to find any kind of grass in the middle of winter so I thought this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I mean, who ever heard of grass roots moving? Not me! I figured it would be a big thing and there would be millions of bunnies, real and stuffed, trying to be the first to see the grassroots movement. I heard it on the radio. They said something about D.C. being occupied and it was a grassroots movement. I came to the conclusion that any kind of grass thing going on had to be masterminded by bunnies….well, it could have been deer too, they like grass, but they tend to stay in the wooded areas. It also could have been birds too, but they like grass seed, not the roots.

We drove down from New York. It took nearly five hours because I drive pretty slow…mostly because I am not really driving, I am just telling the driver what to do.

We saw Capital Hill. This is where all the bills get passed and rejected. The House votes on things like, ummmm, things, I think, almost everything, but I’m not sure exactly what they vote on.

Capital Hill is across a very long lawn from The Washington Monument. This monument is gigantor and I think that the people in Capital Hill look at the monument and think about stuff. It’s really nice to look at because it’s so big. You can’t really avoid looking at it because it’s really tall. Luckily it was closed for fixing because I didn’t want to hop all the way to the top of the monument.

I wanted to meet the president of the United States but his house was surrounded by a lot of security officers wearing walkie-talkies. I’m pretty sure they are telling the President who is standing outside so I tried to jump around a lot to attract attention, but they wouldn’t even look at me. I went to the gate where they had a speaker and I tried to tell the president myself that it would be good publicity for him to meet me and take a photo with me because I am a pretty popular bunny who has received TWO fan letters in the mail. The lady behind the glass waved to me. I said I was here for the Grass Movement and they had nothing to fear because my friends and I would eat all the grass before it moved up the white house stairs.

She just smiled and then said something to the president into her walkie-talkie.

I was very disappointed when I asked the guy in the secret service car about the grass movement. He explained to me that a grass movement had nothing to do with grass and that it usually consists of a bunch of people who lobby for a change in politics. I am lobbying that they change their name of their movement to something else!

Aside from my disappointment about invader grass, I had a pretty good time and it was a good feeling to be in the nation’s capital.

The Secret Service guy told me not to tell anyone else about my grass movement theory because they might throw me in a hutch for funny bunnies!

What is he talking about???

I thought it would be fun to give away one of my very own Baxter Bunny books. It’s a book I wrote and published myself on Lulu.com. It’s a sample book that I sent to publishers so they could learn all about my mad cuteness skills. I have to say, I am pretty cute in print and I think you will love my little book.

If you leave a comment on my Facebook page or right here on my blog you will be entered in the giveaway. If you’re not already a friend on Facebook go ahead and add me if you like. You can also subscribe to my blog by putting your email in the box on the right hand side of this page.

For my Twitter friends you can tweet this blog or reply to @thebaxterbunny on Twitter and you will be entered!

I wish I had a book to give every one of my friends but since I don’t yet have a publisher I can’t do that. Who knows maybe I’ll get one by giving away a book…that would be pretty cool if that happened. I do believe in magical things happening, especially around the New Year on cold days.

I will pick a name at 8pm Eastern time tonight January 4th.

I’m sure this book will help you feel all warm inside when it’s so cold outside.

Good Luck!

I thought the Twelve Days of Christmas started today and ended in 12 days on Christmas, but I was wrong. The twelve days of Christmas starts ON Christmas and ends on January 5th. This is according to Wikipedia, which unlike me, is never wrong. I was kind of bummed to find out the 12 days didn’t start for another 12 days. Instead of getting all depressed about it I figure I’ll just start my own Christmas tradition and celebrate 12 days before Christmas ending on Christmas….

Wait a minute! Why should I stop celebrating on Christmas? Isn’t everyday special? I can celebrate 365 days of Christmas and take days off to celebrate other holidays like Valentine’s Day and Ground Hog Day. You can’t have it be a day of Christmas and the 4th of July…that wouldn’t make any sense, not that I need to make sense. It’s not like there’s a bunch of people out there making sure things make sense.

I’m starting my 1st day of Christmas today! On the first day of Christmas we write a letter to Santa. If you’d like to follow along with me on this 12 days of Christmas tradition you can write a letter too. They have free postcards at Macy’s that are addressed to Santa in The North Pole. According to their website Macy’s has already received nearly 800,000 letters. The United States Post Office also runs a program called Operation Santa, where they fulfill the wishes for letter writers in need. You can pick up blank postcards from a participating post office, or you can just address your own postcard! The post office helps redirect Santa’s mail because Santa’s real address is a big secret. Can you imagine the paparazzi outside his home if his address was leaked?!

I wrote my letter this morning and I’m sending it out today. Here’s what it said:

Dear Santa,

I don’t really need anything because I am a stuffed bunny. All the clothing and toys I do have I received “gently used” from kids who no longer wanted to dress up their dolls. Sometimes people give me their dog’s sweater that doesn’t fit their dog anymore. I have way more stuff than one stuffed bunny would ever need for this lifetime.

I think you should give the new toys to the kids who don’t get new toys very often. It’s really fun to open a brand new toy and be the first to use it. It has that “new toy” smell and everything. Kids like that.

I do have one request. If you happen to have a pair of Elf shoes that one of the elves isn’t wearing anymore, I would love to have them; green or red is fine. I mean seriously, who wouldn’t want a pair of Elf Shoes? They are pretty cool.

I hope your holiday season is going well.

Love,

Baxter Bunny

Just because I didn’t ask for stuff doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. Stuff is fun, but really, I am a stuffed bunny and scientifically I really don’t need anything.

That’s all I have to say about it.

Some of you may know that sometimes I volunteer as a dog toy for the canine community.

Dexter at the hospital

*

*

I had been going to see a new friend that came into the Dog Habitat community and he got really sick and had to be hospitalized. The Dog Habitat does a lot of work for rescue dogs but they are a small organization and they don’t really have a lot of extra money to take care of really sick dogs. When Dexter had to get some special treatment the the dog loving community really pulled it together. We were able to raise the funds needed for Dexter’s treatment in just a few days.

The story of Dex is on his Chip In page, so click here to read the details.

The doctors are working really hard to figure out exactly what is wrong with Dexter, but so far it looks like a thyroid problem is making him really skinny. Dog Habitat is doing their best to fatten him up for Christmas…wait isn’t that the story of Hansel and Gretel?

Dexter had to be alone for a few days because the docs didn’t want him to get any other dogs sick. Yesterday the doctor said he could socialize! I met him at the park and he ran with the other dogs and snuggled with the ladies. I got to snuggle too.

I think I’m going to retire as volunteer dog toy because there was this dog at the park that really didn’t want to let go of me. People had to chase him around to get me out of his clutching jaws. Thankfully I was unharmed, but I think I’m going to move to the administrative side of my volunteer job or maybe just be a volunteer snuggle bunny.

Snuggling with rescue Daisy

Daisy-Kitty is available for adoption.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting Dex. And thanks for being my friend. Bunny hugs and kisses to you or high-fives if you’re a dude…or a punch on the arm.

People get all sentimental around the holidays and they become more susceptible to Retail Scams. I don’t want that to happen to my readers so I did a little research on toys. I am sure everyone wants a Baxter Bunny for Christmas so I looked it up on Google and I was horrified to find a giant white bunny that they are trying to pass as Baxter!

Impostor!

Look at that guy! He is like 5 feet tall! I think most of the readers here know that I am only 13 inches tall (including ears). I am not white, and look at the price: $100 !

Don’t be fooled by impostor Baxter Bunnies.

I suggested you stick with tried and true toys that you can get a lot of use from. I just read this great article from GeekDad at Wired Magazine that has the best suggestions for your Christmas shopping list.

Geekdad suggests that a stick, string, a box, a cardboard tube and dirt are the best toys and I would have to add that they also make great gifts. Just think of all the fun you can have with a stick; kids can pretend like they’re on hikes and stuff.

Read why these simple items make great toys for kids:

The Best Toys of all Time

playing in the dirt

The cardboard tube is really fun as well, you can pretend that it’s a megaphone and yell positive things to people in Central Park or at your local shopping mall.

What would you do with a box if you got one for Christmas?

The thing is, I’m not really sure what they mean by getting “in shape.” I mean, aren’t I already in the shape that I am supposed to be in? What other shape could I take? I don’t want to be shaped like a square or a circle or a potato or a lizard. I don’t even want to be shaped as a delicious carrot.

I kind of like the shape I’m in.

I like my big round butt and fluffy tail. So what if I don’t fit into those American Girl Doll pants, they are too girly for me anyway. I don’t see her at Spin Class trying to get in the shape of a bunny, in fact, I don’t see anyone at this Spin Class!

I’ve been seeing it all around the bookstores and I thought I would share my own story about a very unusual encounter. Her name is Linda Luci. It’s a little bit of a love story…Sigh.

She cautiously approached me at the petting zoo. She sniffed me and I sniffed her back and then I unintentionally crinkled my nose because she smelled kind of like grass and pee.

She saw my expression and lowered her head.

“I don’t mind the smell,” I said. “I’m sure I smell unusual too.”

She whispered in my ear, “I like you.”

“Really? That’s so cool,” I said and we both smiled.

*

She took my hand.

“Come on,” she said. “Hop on. Let’s go for a ride.”

She helped me get on her back and we walked all around the enclosure. I had some quarters and I bought pressed goat kibble from the machine for us to share. It was the best goat kibble I ever ate; I think it was imported.

We talked about our dreams. She has plans to live on a farm in Connecticut. She says she likes the cold winters. She wants to snuggle by a fireplace one day.

She told me her failures too. She once started a shoe restaurant. They served fried, boiled, and steamed shoes. Her signature dish was Shoe con Queso in a mild sock broth. Mmmm Delicious! It turns out her brother was eating all the expensive shoes before they came off peoples feet. Sadly they lost a lot of money.

*

*

She became my best friend in just a few hours. It felt so natural to be with her.

When it was time to leave tears came to my eyes. Why do the good things have to end so quickly?

We promised to become friends on Facebook and talk on Skype.

I miss her already.

You don’t even have to know the history about the President because there are people with t.v. monitors and computers plugged into a car battery on the corner right where it happened. They are playing the original footage of this day in 1963. They explain the details in slow motion as you watch.

The President’s death seems to have spurred the imagination of people all around the world. There are millions of theories surrounding his death and hundreds of books written on the subject. If you Google the subject, you can get lost in a maze of websites dedicated to the death of the president. If your interested you can start on John McAdams website for all the conspiring details.

I mean it’s probably easy to get that patch of grass confused with the patch across the street, but I think they should invest in some proper signage, not that I’m an expert on signs, but the yellow and black one seemed a little tacky.

I didn’t eat any of the grass on the Grassy Knoll out of respect for the late president.May he rest in peace.
