Azari & III, aka Alixander III & Dinamo Azari, make their Essential Mix debut.
The Canadian duo met in 2008 whilst working in a vast warehouse studio complex in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood. They released their self-titled debut album in 2011, which included Pete Tong’s Essential Tune of 2011 ‘Hungry For the Power’. They’ve also collaborated with the Friendly Fires and remixed Cut Copy, Booka Shade and Creep from of the XX).

L Vis 1990 has entered the building for his debut Essential Mix!
L Vis 1990, real name James Connolly, runs one of the UK’s hottest club nights and label ‘Night Slugs’, alongside Bok Bok. His debut album, ‘Neon Dreams’, was released towards the end of 2011 and featured collaborations with Teki Latex, Para One, Julio Bashmore and Javeon McCarthy.
And the name L Vis 1990? Connolly explains it comes from a line in ’21st Century Boy’ by 80′s pop punks Zig Zig Sputnik. In the intro to the track they describe the ultimate band who are going to change the future by revisiting the past. Following a theme for this Essential Mix, L Vis 1990 merges timless classics from the likes of Carl Craig and Laurent Garnier, with brand new music for 2012.

Adopted by the Swedish House Mafia, AN21 and Max have been propelled onto the world stage in the last two years. AN21, aka Antione Josefsson, is Steve Angello’s kid brother, whilst Max Vangeli was born and raised in eastern europe before moving to California.

Berlin’s Modeselektor take over Radio 1′s Essential Mix.
Modeselektor are Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary and formed shortly after the fall of the infamous Berlin Wall in 1989. They soon found a home on Ellen Allien’s Bpitch Control label and have released acclaimed albums like ‘Hello Mom’ and ‘Happy Birthday’. They’ve collaborated with artists like Apparat and Parisian rap group TTC; and toured with Radiohead. Gernot and Sebastian have just released their third artist album ‘Monkeytown’, which features Thom Yorke.

Detroit legend Stacey Pullen returns to Radio 1′s Essential Mix. Hailing from the home of techno, Pullen was mentored by the ‘big 3′; Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. He got his first gig at high school in 1985. He established himself touring with Derrick May around Europe in the early nineties. He released music on legendary techno labels like Transmat and his own label, Black Flag, which he resurrected last year. And he remains at the cutting edge as a DJ, with storming sets at Pacha and Cocoon in Ibiza this summer.
