Long or short road trips in our family's automobile is an exercise in patience, creativity and contortionism (is that even a real word?. Let me explain...My two boys aged 3 and 6 are OBSESSED with Lego and any toys with smaller than smaller parts. However, this leads to dropped pieces, screams and wails... which then leads Mom into a complicated yoga sequence of spine twists, lunges and downward dogs in order to save the precious piece and complete their "creations". How to Survive a Summer Road Trip with the Kids.

Two years ago, I decided to take our family on a road trip to Maine. At the time I didn't think it would be a challenge. My son was 6 months old and my daughter was 2. We didn't really have a plan for entertaining the kids on the ride. Then again, how do you entertain a 6 month old in a rear facing car seat for that amount of time. The fact that the little one was breastfeeding made it even more of a challenge.

Turns out that the ride was a total disaster and my husband and I vowed to never again attempt such a long ride with our children. We really enjoyed our vacation, but not the travel aspect. Well like most traumatic experiences, the bad memories faded and we decided to try it again 2 years later. This time the kids were a little older and we had a plan!

First we mapped out our root and looked for a few places to stop on the way. We found some very nice parks in Maine to have a picnic. A stream or a river nearby is always a plus. We made sure to pack lunches and bring plenty of snacks for our breaks. I will admit that we had a DVD player in the car and we picked up a couple of Disney movies for the ride as well. But TV can only entertain the children for so long..

I chose a few toys from the BebeGoGo store that I thought were appropriate for travel with young children. My picks were the Star Kids Snack N' Play Travel Tray. This tray quickly creates a solid surface for kids to play on. This really helps to prevent the "Mommy, I dropped my toy" scenario.

We brought along our Trunkis to pack all of our stuffed animals and games for the ride. Children really enjoy having their own luggage like mom and dad.

Finally, the Octo Beach Tote by Melissa and Doug was excellent for carrying our sand toys as well. The net on the sides allows for water to drain out and the kids love the cool design

Je suis une grand-maman totalement en amour avec ses deux petits-fils. J'adore passer des fins de semaine et des petites vacances avec eux sans leurs parents - on apprend à mieux se connaître ainsi. Dans le passé, quand je les emmenais en vacances, je rentrais chez moi exténuée après avoir trimballé tout leur équipement de chez leurs parents à notre résidence et ensuire à notre lieu de séjour et ensuite tout retourner au point de départ. Je suis fatiguée rien qu'à y penser! Tout a changé lorsque j'ai commencé à utiliser les services de location Bébégogo. Mon mari (grand-papa) et moi avons récemment passé cinq jours dans la région de Montréal avec Olivier et Charles pendant que leurs parents déménageaient. Nous sommes restés dans un petit hôtel près du Jardin botanique. Nous avons passé de merveilleux moments au jardin botanique, avons visité un petit zoo et fait des randonnées dans la campagne, ainsi que des piques-niques dans les Laurentides. Et, il est bien entendu impossible d'éviter les centres commerciaux pour aller voir ce qu'il y a de plus récent dans les boutiques de jouets. Tout s'est passé sur des roulettes grâce à l'équipement que Bébégogo nous a loué. Le personnel de Bébégogo s'est rendu à notre hôtel, a installé un lit de bébé avec literie pour Olivier qui n'a que deux ans et nous a laissé deux sièges d'auto faciles à installer dans notre voiture personnelle, ainsi que deux sièges d'appoint pour faciliter les repas. Road Trip Time

The other night, my little family and I were travelling home from the cottage on the Laurentian highway, minding our own business when we were almost run off the road by a bunch of Yeeha's (I have a much more colourful word in mind, but I choose to remain classy for the sake of this blog) driving 180km per hour. After our heart's stopped beating a million miles a minute and I was able to calm down, I realized that we really are so vulnerable out there on the road. Our babies and kids are strapped in tight (we think) but in the event of a crash or collision, are they really that safe? It's that time of year again-Summer. Meaning lot's of trips with the kids. Whether it be down the street to the lake or to the parc, or a couple of hours away to Grampa's. It's super important to double check again that our kids car seats are properly installed. How many times do we take those seats out and put back in over the year. At least half a dozen. But are we really installing them properly?

According to an SAAQ 2007 survey, 2 out of 3 children are not safe when riding in a vehicle. Approximately 83% of children are in a seat that is suited to their height and weight, but seats are used correctly, that is, the child car seat is properly anchored on the seat of the vehicle and the child is properly restrained in the seat, in only 41% of cases.

It's time to announce the winner of our Klean Kanteen contest.

The winner is..... Suzanne Blalock of Beaconsfield, QC.
"Love love love the Klean Kanteen products!! My 20 mos old loves drinking from his Klean Kanteen Sippy...it is just like his older sister and brother's Klean Kanteens. I love how it cleans up and doesn't pass any of those bad plastic enzymes into his milk...I can imagine it tastes better too...nothing tastes good in plastic, and now my children can enjoy the true flavor of their milk or juice or even water....it is the next step from a glass bottle!!"
