Open Ed 2011 Recap and Invitation to Vancouver for Open Ed 2012

Hi Craig, glad to hear the post was of some use, and good to meet you!

As luck would have it, your question about Open Ed 2012 has come to the right place - BCcampus is the lead organizer, partnered with BYU, UBC and Athabasca, for Open Ed 2012, to be held in Vancouver October 16-18. Expect to see the Call for Papers (and indeed the website!) In March. Hope to see you there - Otago has long been seen by myself and others as a real leader in open ed, and it would be great to meet face to face. Cheers, Scott

Hi Scott

Thanks for this post. I followed a few of the links to content that I would not have found otherwise. Jim Groom's talk was great - very passionate. Do you have any idea regarding plans for Open Ed 2012? I haven't been able to find a CFP anywhere.

The SOL*R model looks interesting (just browsing now). My Uni (Otago, New Zealand) is next door to Otago Polytechnic and the Open Educational Resources Foundation (Wayne Mackintosh). The foundation hosts WikiEducator (an OER repository) and I've been following their OURu Initiative. So, even way down here, interesting things are happening!

Cheers.

Intellectual Property, Internet and Higher Ed in BC

Legislative bodies must of course focus and balance their efforts on both economic matters and human interest matters. According to a Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics Report on Hate Crime in Canada hate motivated crimes account for less than 1% of all incidents reported to police. Hate crimes are motivated by either
race/ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation. Race/ethnicity hate crimes are by far the most common accounting for about 61% of those incidents. These stats give no indication of how many of these hate crimes were online. I expect it is very small. However, perhaps you are focusing on online bullying which certainly has been a topic of concern. Overall I agree that human interest issues require as much attention as business interests. Thanks for sharing your views.

Live Chat update

Thanks for your comment Nganda.

A directory of online courses can be found at coursesbc.ca.

Please keep in mind BCcampus lists courses offered by B.C. post-secondary institutions, but we are not an institution offering courses ourselves. You will apply to the individual college or university offering the course in order to register.

Our colleagues at B.C. Council on Admissions and Transfer operate a web site called EducationPlanner.ca where you can find more about all programmes offered at B.C. post-secondary institutions, and plan your higher education accordingly.

Hope this helps!
