Urban Decay 15 yr Anniversary Eyeshadow Collection Review

I have been eyeballing this palette of shadows for awhile now. So when Urban Decay was offering the 20% friends and family sale, I went ahead and got myself an early Christmas gift. This palette hooked me with all the beautiful colors. I am a sucker for color! This is an excerpt from urbandecay.com, "It’s our party, and we’ll launch 15 NEW (and only in this kit!) eyeshadow shades if we want to! With just the right balance of neutrals and brights, darks and lights, the 15-Year Anniversary Palette is both versatile and the ultimate UD junkie collection. Shades like “Junkshow” (a bright pink), “Evidence” (a deep metallic blue) and Midnight 15 (an oyster pearl shade) mesmerize the eyes. The collectible gunmetal outer box features a luxe faceted jewel “UD” on the cover and an eye-grabbing laser-cut filigree design on the sides. Inside, the shadow tray pulls out to reveal a velvet-lined compartment that can be used to stash jewelry or personal mementos."

Urban Decay started, in 1996, as a cosmetics line that offered unique colors with unique names such as: Roach, Smog, Rust, Oil Slick and Acid Rain. They are a globally known company and what I like most is that they are 100% free of animal testing, paraben-free, and carry many vegan products. They have a couple of products like their eye shadow primer and the Naked Palette that almost have a cult-like following. I have both and love them!

Now, let's talk about presentation. I was impressed when I got the palette and it had some weight to it. It came in a purple box and the was very aesthetically pleasing. The colors that interested me initially were Deep End and Evidence, but all of them are beautiful. Most have a lot of sheen to them, but Blackout is a very matte, deep-black. Also, one of the things I love most about Urban Decay eyeshadows is the pigment. It doesn't take much to get a lot of color. They are very pigmented. One thing I can't stand is seeing a shadow the looks pretty in the package, only to be disappointed when I put it on and can't see it and/or it doesn't look like the same color. This won't happen with Urban Decay's shadows.

The colors I used in the photograph were Deep End all over the lid, Evidence under the eye on the lower lid. I also pulled Deep End under the lower lid too. I used Midnight 15 as a highlight on the brow.

So, if you are looking for a high-quality, eye-shadow palette that can take you from day to night, the 15-yr Anniversary Shadow Palette by Urban Decay would be a perfect choice!

Splurge vs Steal: Eyeshadow Primer

I absolutely love to wear bright, extravagant eyeshadow on a regular basis. So I always try to get more with less. I have found that I can buy less expensive eyeshadows as long as I use a great primer underneath. (For those of you who have never used an eyeshadow primer, you should. It will give you super rich color that lasts all day without fading.)

In my search for an eyeshadow primer, I tried several different brands looking for a perfect fit.

Ulta Eye Primer, Pop Beauty Eye Magnet Primer NYX Shadow Base

Here is a list of a few of those primers that I have ranked in order of effectiveness:

1. LA Splash Eyeshadow Sealer/Base:

This is one circumstance where I have found the cheaper product works the best! This primer has a gel consistency and holds glitter and loose pigment like a magnet! I get compliments all the time about how rich my color looks, and my shadow and liner stays on through sleeping (naughty me, sleeping in my makeup!). Apply a THIN layer with the applicator and wait until it is almost, but not quite, dry to apply your liner and shadow. Keep your eyes closed while it dries or you could suffer creases. For a mere $6.99, this product lasts months and is a makeup lovers dream! (LA Splash also makes a mascara primer which is well worth it.)

2. Urban Decay Primer Potion:

This one is very effective for eyeshadows, but pricier than the previous. I also had a harder time getting glitter to stick to it due to its creamy consistency and felt like I needed more to make my shadow brighter. The benefit is that they make it in four different shades: Eden (dries matte nude), "

Sin" (a popular champagney shade), "Greed" (a yellow gold shade), and original (invisible nude). Price ranges from $10-$30, depending on the size and container type.

3. Tarte Lifted Natural Eye Primer with Firmatol:

Only slightly less effective than the UD, but has the added benefit of lid firming, a nice benefit for aging eyes. Also has the creamy consistency. A benefit of using Tarte is all the products are paraben, phthalate, sodium lauryl sulfate, petrolatum, synthetic dye and fragrance free. Plus, they don't test on animals! $20 for a small tube with an applicator.

4. Too Faced Shadow Insurance:

Another great product. Similar to the UD and Tarte, just pricier for less benefit. $18 for a pretty small squeeze tube.

There are several other primers out there. A few products I have only briefly used and would like to try more extensively are Ulta Eyeshadow Primer ($8-10), NYX Shadow Base ($6.99) and HD Shadow Base ($6.99), Pop Beauty Eye Magnet Primer ($18), and Palladio Herbal Eyeshadow Primer ($7.99).

Pretty in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness!

I wanted to do a makeover using pinks as a small way to honor and show support to those affected in one way or another by breast cancer. Also, I want to thank everyone out there who donates and participates in supporting breast cancer awareness! Just this month, Giuliana Rancic of E! News (whom I love) was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has had surgery and is doing well. She advises everyone to go and get checked whether or not you have a concern. I think that is a great idea. Every October, schedule your annual mammogram or doctor's exam.

It was fun to create this tribute to breast cancer awareness, and I hope you like it!

Makeup Guide for Every Decade - Part 2

Your best Makeup now: Your skin may be just starting too show its first stages of aging. But don't worry! Primer is going to be your new best friend such as Smashbox's Photo Finish Light. This primer will absorb oil where needed, but add moisture to dry areas. Making sure to use moisturizer daily will also help keep your skin nice and plump. If you have oil skin, use oil-free vs. skipping the step all together. Clear, luminous skin will now start taking the place of neon eye shadow.

Get Cheeky: Play up a youthful glow by using highlight on the top of your cheekbones or a soft and suttle pink blush or a coral cream color to add to the apples of your cheeks.

Mascara Steps, Tricks, & Tips

Mascara Steps, Tips, & Tricks

Step 1: Application

Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of lashes. It's the mascara placed near the roots -- not the tips -- that gives the illusion of fullness.

Step 2: Separate

Pull the wand up and through lashes, wiggling as you go. This helps to separate lashes.

Step 3: No Clumps

In this final step, close the eye and place the mascara wand on top of lashes at the base and pull through to remove any clumps. You also want to do this after your eyeshadow application to over shadow dust on the lashes.

Step 4: Final Step

Once this dries, I recommend using a disposable mascara wand or an old (cleaned) mascara wand to comb through the lashes to further clear up any clumps. Then apply another layer. To avoid a lot of clumps in the first place, wipe off the wand on a wet wipe or scrape off excess product before applying. You can always add more layers as you go.

Tip: I personally like the look of mascara on the lower lashes. Although I would recommend just one layer. So as not to make it unnatural or harsh use brown instead of black on the lower lashes. If you have issues with mascara 'running' just on the lower lash, I recommend using a waterproof mascara on the lower lash. L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara Carbon Black is a very popular mascara among makeup artists.

There are many different types of mascara and you want to choose one to suit your needs. Do you want your lashes to appear longer or fuller or both?

Tip: Fat brushes (like Lancome's Hypnose mascara), create voluptuous lashes, while skinny brushes (such as Lancome's Definicils) will coat each lash perfectly without clumping. Curved wands will help curl lashes Lengthening mascaras have dense bristles that allow you to get more mascara on your lashes and especially on the tips of your lashes. Thickening mascara's contain a thicker formula of waxes and silicone polymers that coat lashes and make them appear bulkier. If you like the look of both, alternate one coat of thickening and one coat of lengthening mascara.

Tip: For extra help use a mascara primer it claims to doubles lash volume and boosts the benefits of whatever type of mascara you are using whether it be lengthening, volumizing etc. You apply it first, let it dry and apply mascara using the steps above. Revlon Lash Fantasy Total Definition Mascara & Primer is nice because they both come on one tube.

Tip: For best results and to stay hygienic, buy a new mascara every 3 month. Try not to squeeze or pump the brush into the tube when applying!

Tip: I recommend everyone use an eyelash curler before applying mascara. They is nothing to be afraid of ladies and they can make a big difference!

Trend: What about color? I say Yes! I grew up in the 80's and I am still a fan of blue mascara! Navy Blue, plum there are many nice colors to compliment your eyes that won't look too wild. But, on occasion it is fun to use a purple color. Again, try using the plum on just the lower lashes to make blue eyes more blue, and green eyes greener.

There are major do's and dont's for every stage of your life and makeup is a common area of confusion. My name is Sergio, a new makeup artist with Dollface by Jules and I'm going to give you great makeup tips from 20 something to 40 something with this decade guide to staying fabulous. 20 something.....

Your best Make-up now: Wear whatever that little hand and brush desire Honey!!! Having the best skin of your life , and the youthful vigor and pores to pull it off, right now you have the freedom to experiment with looks and find what goes best with your facial structure. This is the time to re-live the 80's in the Twenty-First century (bold splashes of color). Be it blue eyeliner, hot-pink blush or matte purple lip-stick (just don't try more than one at a time!).

What not to Wear: Skip heavy moisturizers, your soft wrinkle free skin does not need it, and ultra-hydrating ingriedients are better for more mature skin. Heavy moisturizer such as shea butter may make you look too oily, clog your pores, and cause breakouts.

What to wear and try: Start you day with a light moisturizer that contains SPF and antioxidants, such as Murad Energizing Pomegranate Moisturizer Spf 15. I cannot emphasize this enough but you have to protect your skin to keep it wrinkle and spot free in your 40's and beyond. For some sun kissed color, there is no boundries there, try it all because there is no point, in investing in something that you will only wear once. Try Rimmel Special Eyes Precision Eyeliner Pencil, for an abundance of different colors. also for the lips try Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstain for a color that lasts all day.

On the farm! Don't tell anyone I'm not in uniform ;)

Oh I had fun on a pig farm, twice! Thanks to my client and dear friend, Libbie Summers. I have had the pleasure nay the honor of hanging out with her and an amazing crew for 3 days. We were there and a little bit of everywhere for Libbie's new book, The Whole Hog Cookbook, releasing in September. A small crew can go one of two ways, good or bad. I was fortunate to be a part of a crew that made me feel like we were at summer camp.

Fun stories, great photography, and recipes with a twist! I do make a small cameo at the dinner table, which was so much fun! Cheers to Libbie, the crew, & your mouth watering!

Bridal Beauty Skin Tips from Karen!

Karen is a Dollface Certified Artist and a Licensed Esthetics Instructor. She has worked and trained with many industry leaders across the country. Read her tips for brides-to-be:

Having a flawless face on your wedding day begins months before you say "I do." Great makeup begins with great skin.

First, start a good cleansing program which includes a cleanser, treatment serum or gel, and a moisturizer all appropriate for your skin type. You also want to include a gentle exfoliant to your routine one to three times a week. I really like Oil of Olay Microdermabrasion. You may want to consult an Esthetician and discuss your skin-care goals. Remember, even oily skin types need a moisturizer. Just choose an oil-free one. Recently, I tried DDF Ultra-lite oil-free moisturizing dew and loved it.

Don't forget your lips! Exfoliate your lips by using an old soft bristled tooth-brush or wash cloth in the shower. Rub gently for 30 seconds. Apply vaseline or heavy lip balm every night.

One of the best things you can do for yourself and skin is drink plenty of water. Keep a water bottle with you at all times. Drinking more water will help rid your body of toxins and hydrate your skin. While you are at it consider decreasing your caffeine consumption.

Use SPF: Always remember to wear your sunscreen and put in on the back of your hands as well.

Start shaping your eyebrows 12 weeks in advance and do your last waxing or threading one week before the wedding. Avoid waxing if your are using a glycolic acid, retin-a or retinol product on your face.

Beauty sleep works! Get plenty of rest to allow your skin time to repair itself. Try to get as much as you can done early so you can focus on keeping yourself well rested and relaxed. Sleep is the body's natural beauty treatment and more effective than any other treatment you could buy.

You may or may not have noticed the Dollface by Jules Facebook page was pretty quite last week. Well, we (myself along with Dollface Photobooth) of traveling to Tampa, FL for a fantastic wedding. Savannah based photographer, Dylan Wilson, captured the love & fun of the evening. More to come of the makeup but here's a sneak peek of the happy couple:

After the wedding fun was complete, we travel to the makeup manufacturing plant we are working with to create the MAKEUP LINE! The line is scheduled to launch in 2012, stay tuned for details!

After 8 days of traveling, we will be back on the road again Saturday evening. This time Team Dollface is Orlando bound for the Premiere Beauty Show to enjoy too much shopping & classes from top pros. We will be back in Savannah next week & sharing tips for all of our fans. Just wanted you to know I hadn't forgotten about ya!

Best Day Ever.. You Tell Me...

To recap how I spent the day... I was at Paula Deen's home w/ Libbie Summers (Paula's Senior Food Stylist who has her own cookbook coming out in Sept), met the incredible icon - Liza Minnelli, & Bobby Dean gave me his new cookbook inscribed to "Jules & The Fritz". Just when you didn't think it could get any better- I was paid top dollar to do all of this!

I say all of this for a reason, and also because it IS pretty damn awesome! I want to encourage you along with myself to never let go of your dream. I remember when many, and I mean lots & *LOTS* of people thought I was absolutely crazy for ever thinking I could leave my tiny hometown to do makeup. Makeup?! On location and not out of a hair salon?! Full time?! Well a little over 2 years later- a thriving business with a team of 5, portable photobooth division, & a makeup line in the works, I say with a smile- "Yup."

No matter what your dream is, no matter how crazy it seems to everyone else.. follow it anyway since living your dream is the best ride you can ever take but living in regret of what could've been is a miserable option. Today reminded me of how sweet life is and how it's worth taking the chance on yourself.

Adding Intensity to a Smoky Eye

For a flawless way to do dark eye makeup, we recommend using two eyeliners. Start by dotting on a dark liner to the base of the lashes. Then, simply go back over the line with a gel liner, dark shadow or liquid liner. Just by retracing the line, you'll get more intensity, help keep your makeup in place, and your lashes will look thicker. Try using this with a brown pencil and then using jet black for best results.

DIY Salt Glow Recipe & Directions

Yesterday I had a fantastic salt glow, a salt scrub which exfoliates your body to make your skin feel baby smooth and glow! I wanted to share the tips & recipe I was given to make this happen more often. Did you know exfoliating with salt is better for your skin that sugar? Salt helps to pull toxins out of your skin and will not dissolve in the oil. Sugar is still good, salt is just bit better.

You will need:

Fine Sea Salt or Epson Salt
1/2 cup of massage oil such as almond or grapeseed - no cooking oil
10-15 drops of essential oils such as lavendar or lemongrass
1/4 cup of honey
Mixing bowl
A jar with a lid

Mix the oils & salt together until the oil has completely soaked the salt in your mixing bowl. Next mix in the honey. Transfer the goods to your jar & take a bath or shower.

If you have a bathtub, allow the excess salt to fall into the tub which will now create a soothing soak. Using the scrub in the shower prior to shaving is a great way to avoid ingrown hairs. Make sure to use a soothing shave cream such as Ambrosia from Lush.com.

Use your scrub 1-2 times per week. This recipe will give you about 3 scrubs. Feel free to add any oils you fancy. Creating your own perfect salt glow is half the fun!

Question on Red Lips: How do you pick out and apply the perfect red lipstick? I would Love to wear it, but always feel like a clown. Any suggestions?

Answer: Sticking to berry tones vs orange is key in it being more flattering. I like to use the lip color, then outline softly with a pencil that is 1 shade darker to lock in the lipstick. You can also try a lip stain to get you used to the impact and build from there. My favorite reds: Pure Matte Lipstick from Nars. You can find them at Sephora.com or use those colors to guide you. I also really like the Doubletake Lip Color from Smashbox in Cranberry.

Question on Tinted Moisturizer: Can I make my own tinted moisturizer w/ a liquid bronzer & moisturizer? Is that what's essentially sold @ stores?

Answer: Yes! And I absolutely encourage you too! If bronzer scares you or it isn't giving you the look you want, mix your moisturizer & foundation. This is a great answer for finding a sheer coverage in your shade for the summer. For a glow or dewy finish- mix in a drop of illuminator.

Questions of Foundations:

--What is the best base/foundation product to use for an all day event that is both out and indoors that lasts but doesn't look cakey?

--Yes, I have a similar question, I need a foundation that looks smooth but won't get in creases half way through the day.

--I have a problem with under eye bags. I do everything right to help make them go away but they won't leave. My main problem is makeup gets in between the creases and makes them look worse. I use a primer on them, concealer, and then loose powder to set it but makeup still clumps between the creases! Any suggestions?

Answers: The best way to keep your makeup in place & out of creases is by using primer. Think of when you paint, you use a primer first- same applies to makeup. Some may need an extra boost by using a primer that also "plumps" fine lines such as MUFE's HD Exliir or Vitamin E. Depending on your skin, you may need a primer which also helps absorb oil (Smashbox's Photo Finish Light) or MUFE's All Mat. A misting spray will also help to refresh your makeup with having to add more. Blotting sheets are a great tool to have on hand as well.

--For under eye bags, try fresh aloe under your eyes. This will help bring down the swelling. Murad has a great product called Lighten & Brighten. Keeping spoons in your fridge for cold compression is also helpful. Pollen levels are at a world record high, so consider allergies as a culprit. Remember, the more makeup you use to cover- the more chance for a cakey build up.

Top non-airbrush foundations I use in my kit in order of coverage:

Sheer- Nar's Sheer Glow or tinted moisturizer

Medium- Laura Mercier's Foundation Powder (can be used over tinted moisturizer or wet for heavier coverage & MUFE's HD invisible foundation

Heavier- MUFE's Mat Velvet or Smashbox's Camera Ready Full Coverage

Kate Middleton's Wedding Day Face Chart

Now we have all heard that yes, the gorgeous Catherine, did her own makeup. And yes, I'm completely disappointed that she didn't call me! But after seeing her, I was beyond impressed with her color choices and skill. What you may not know is that she did have training. A Bobbi Brown artist did show Kate how to glam up her everyday look into the bridal beauty we all loved. She was also on hand providing not only guidance but also makeup services for the members of her party.

Why didn't she just have her makeup done? Well after several makeup trials for her engagement session, she wasn't happy with the results. The future Dollface artist aka The Duchess of Cambridge, decided to do her own makeup for the photo shoot and eventually on her big day.

I do like her approach on knowing what would work best for her. Doing your own makeup on your wedding day may not bode well for many brides-to-be. When you factor in nerves along with many other causes for stress, most brides look forward to their time in the makeup chair when they relax.

Dewy Makeup - Just in time for Summer!

Most of us, especially those of us in high humidity areas, have no problem achieving a natural "glow". By glow I mean oily. How can you get the "glow" to work in your favor? A dewy look is great option for summer since you are working with your skin and not against it.

Start by using a primer/moisturizer before you do your makeup. Don't forget to moisturize under your eyes as well. Prepping your skin is very important. You can also use a primer with illuminators or a pink tint. This will help in giving your skin a healthy look. You can also mix in an illuminator in with your moisturizer or use it alone. If you have very oily skin, use an oil absorbing primer such as Photofinish Light from Smashbox. Top picks are: Orgasm Illuminator from Nars, That Gal from Benefit, & L'Oreal Studio Secrets' Face Primer.
Use a lighter foundation only where you need it. Try using a tinted moisturizer and concealer for spot coverage, or lightly using liquid instead of tinted moisturizer.
Try using a cream blush or even a lipstick on your cheeks for a lighter finish.
Opt for using an illuminating or mineralized powder. Healthy, natural skin isn't matte- so go easy on the powder. Note- this will reflect lighter in photos. Top picks are: Stila, Laura Mercier, Mark from Avon, & Physician's Formula.
Use a setting mist for a natural finish. This step also sets your makeup and keeps in place longer. Hydrating your skin with a mist will also give a nice dewy glow! Top picks are: MAC's Fix + Spray, Make Up For Ever's Mist & Fix, & Evian's Brumisateur Mineral Water.

Avoid powder white faces in pictures!

Question:

"Jules...why am I seeing so many celebs with this happening to them? What products are they using to get that look? I know that SPF in products gives that white look but you'd think the makeup artist would know better! "

Answer:
I have seen this way too much! Nicole Kidman & Eva Longoria both had this happen a couple of months ago. If can be a few of things:

1. SPF 25+ is notorious for reflecting white since the active SPF ingredient is Mica (a white mineral). It could be the under eye product had too much SPF.

2. Translucent powder (also white) is often used under the eyes to catch loose shadow so it can be easily brushed away. But you can't forget about it!

3. MUFE's HD powder if not properly blended can also show super white! It's a fine velvety powder which can bounce light just like the SPF.

With all of that said, a professional makeup artist should be trained enough to avoid all of these possible blunders! Hope this helps!

Dollface has been very busy & growing strong with new projects and our newest division, Dollface Photobooth. Along with growing comes "growing pains" with having more business than artists. Yes, this is a fantastic "problem" to have but it's never ok with me to say no to anyone based on availability, especially when a vendor has recommended me. It's not too often I get to play tourist, but I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity. An Easy Smokey Eye

One of the most popular questions I get is about doing a smokey eye. Smokey eyes can either be sexy or trampy, it all depends on your blending & products. Here's a quick & easy guide!

You'll need:
- a soft eyeliner (soft kohl)
- eyeshadow of your choice (black, brown, navy blue, deep green, purple)
- a highlight eyeshadow of your choice (I prefer shimmering champagne shades)
- a pointy smudge brush (such as MAC 219)
- a clean blending brush (Sonia Kashuk for Target has a very good one for $3.99)
- an eye shadow brush
- mascara

Let's get to work:

Step 1: use an eye shadow primer (Urban Decay Shadow Potion) & line your eyes with the soft eyeliner. Use the smudge brush to smudge it out.

Step 2: use the blending brush and blend the dark color upward from the crease to the lid. This will give the smoky effect of your eyes. Blending is crucial in obtaining the smoky eyes look because if you don't blend enough you'll have panda eyes.

Step 3: use the same smudge brush to apply the dark eyeshadow over the place that you just smudged the liner. This will "set" the eyeliner. Be patient and apply a little bit at a time. It's easier to add more makeup than to remove the excess. Dust away any fallen shadow with a fan brush.

Step 4: use the eye shadow brush, apply the highlighting color underneath the eyebrows. This will give you a clean look. Then use the blending brush to blend the highlighting color downward to erase the lines.

Bonus step: curl your lashes with an eyelash curler, then apply 2, 3 coats of mascara.

My mascara suggestions:
-Drugstore brands: L'Oreal Voluminous or Double Extend.

With smoky eyes, you can omit or add eye liner depending on the level of desired intensity. Good luck and have fun, it's only makeup! Practice makes perfect, so don't give up if you aren't happy the first time. Don't plan to do this before you are going out! Do a test run on a day when you can play!

2011 Oscar Makeup Favorites!

I always love watching the Oscars not only because I love movies, but also for all of the gorgeous hair & makeup! The gowns and jewels are 2nd on my list ;)

This year we saw a lot of dress color and also plenty of brown/bronze smokey eyes and red lips! Award season usually sets the tone for the year's makeup trends. I must say, I'm excited to recreate some of the beautiful looks.

With so many to chose from it was hard to pick the top 5! Chanel was responsible for many of these flawless beauties. Other favorites included; Halle Berry, Melissa Leo, & Hailee Steinfield. I loved Hailee's age appropriate makeup!

Mila's Beauty Breakdown:
Face: For a flawless canvas, her makeup artist Tracey Levy prepped Mila's skin with Lancôme Teint Miracle Lit-from-Within Foundation ($37), then applied Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourose ($30) to the apples of Mila's cheeks.

Eyes: Mila's eyes received a double dose of shadow. Levy layered shades from Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Coral Crush ($48) and Color Design Eye Shadow in Impress on the lids, and lined Mila's top and bottom lash lines with Le Crayon Khôl EyeLiner in Black ($25). She finished with two coats of Hypnôse Waterproof Custom Volume Mascara in Black ($25) on both the upper and lower lids.

Lips: Levy used Color Fever Gloss in Blazing Pink ($26), followed by La Laque Fever Lipshine in Lucent Nude ($27).

From Anne's makeup artist, Kate Lee:

“For a base, I used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Limpide, which I used throughout the show. For concelear, I used Kanebo Brush Type Concealer in CB 1 Light. To create a fresh glow on her cheeks, I used CHANEL Joues Contraste Blush in Fresque, and defined cheek bones with Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium. I created a black line created with Bobbi Brown longwear gel liner in Black Ink. The eye socket was defined withIllamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Truth, and I applied CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. On her lips, I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rivoli, and lightly powdered over her mouth for a matte effect. In between changes I used By Terry Rose Salve to remove lip colors and keep lips fresh.”

From Michelle's makeup artist, Jeanine Lobell: “Michelle’s skin is so fresh and beautiful. I applied CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup in B10, which allows her skin to shine though the makeup, creating a fresh look. I set the makeup with CHANEL Natural Finished Press Pressed Powder in Translucent 1. For eyes, we went for a light, ethereal smoky look mixing the shades in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Smoky Eyes. I used the silvery shade as a base, and then used the pewter shade, taking it from the lash line up into the crease, adding shape to the eye. I then smudged the same shade in the lower lash line. I used the black shade, blended into the pewter, as a liner. I applied a few individual lashes in the center, and a lot of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir on the top and bottom. I used the CHANEL Precision Brow Definer in Blond Claire to define the brow. To create a glowing pink cheek, I applied CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Pink Tweed. I mixed her lip colour, CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rose Dentelle, with a bit of the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, which creates the effect of the lips blending into the face.”

I let my primer sit for a couple of minutes before applying foundation. If it still feels tacky, wait a minute longer. I will usually take those few minutes to work on my brows. Hope this helps!

Only Line Your Top Lid with Liquid Liner:

While the smoky eye isn't going anywhere, here's a look that's equally sexy but a bit crisper. Try the combination of big lashes and liquid liner. Here, January Jones wears a hint of pinkish/champagne shimmery shadow in the inner corners of her eyes for extra brightness. I have rocked this look since the 90's and I still love it! This sexy look started in the late 40's and was called the "doe eye". Pair with a red lip, and you have pin up makeup. For a modern twist, trade out the red for nude or even pink.

Winter Dry Skin

My skin has been so dry lately it actually hurts. Some of you may know that I have eczema on my face and extremely dry skin everywhere else. But for some reason, this winter literally hurts! So I thought, I wonder if anyone else is having any dry skin trouble as well. Just in case- here ya go!

A few great remedies & products I have been using are:

Neutrogena Body Oil $8
Lavender Baby Oil $3
Skin Nanny $49
Omega 3,6,9 capsules $6

After I shower, before I towel dry, I use the Neutrogena Body Oil everywhere. Using this while your skin is still moist is key. The oil will lock in the moisture while it's adding more. Next step, pat try. You don't want most of the oil on the towel, so take it easy.

For the days where my skin is so tight it hurts, I take a nice moisturizing bath with Lavender Baby Oil. I usually combine this with a bath bomb from Lush. I use Lavender for the aroma therapy and the oil is once again locking in the moisture. I can almost hear my skin sigh with relief. You can usually find this in the baby area. Also a very important side note: DO NOT EVER USE BABY OIL TO REMOVE EYE MAKEUP. The oil can fog your lens and cause blindness.

For my dry face, I love Skin Nanny from Lush. This is not a cheap product but a little goes a long way & it's worth money. Starflower oil moisturizes and hydrates your skin with omega 6 oils and nutritious fatty acids. Vitamin C and E come naturally with almond and hibiscus oils. The girls at Lush will provide you with a sample and I suggest you try it before you buy it. But you will be hooked! This works well at night before bed. Your skin cells repair the most when you are sleeping, hence the name "beauty sleep". The powerful product will also keep your skin looking young & soft.

Last but certainly not least, moisturizing from within. I like the Spring Valley brand that contains every oil I think it could. I'm sure there are plenty of brands that are great, I just happen to use this one currently. This is not only great for your skin, hair, nails, & joints but also great for your brain functions and heart health.
