A pair of silk pillows that I designed and made were borrowed by Oliver M. Furth's for his beautifully designed room at the Greystone Show House this past December. In this expressive bedroom, lives quite the forward thinking girl; the pair of Victorian Silk Pillows--details below--I pieced together from a beaded and ruffled Victorian dress. You may be able to make them out in situ above on the bed. The images are from Los Angeles Luxe Interiors +Design. Winter 2012. The blue and white striped pillow is one that I pieced together out of an indigo African textile and some home spun Laotian fabric. It's on page 96 of the Dec-Jan 2012 issue of House Beautiful. The interior is by Commune purchased from Pat McGann Gallery.

These embroidery pieces were taken from a frilly frilly piece of fabric that I cut & appliqued to a linen ground--machine stitched with threads of green pink and blue. 16x16 feather and down insert.

Roman Shade

One of the 3 Roman Shades that I've done for my bedroom. They are unlined white black out fabric that have been pieced randomly to create ripples and a light design of stitch holes--I'm debating my love for them, but in the morning it's pleasant to look at the stitching. I'll like them more with curtains installed and then they won't be so bleak.

Silk Pillow

A pillow I made from a 1960's silk scarf with a marbleized swirl pattern.

Lately, I've been focused on my bedroom and have spent all my ~~free~~ time doing it up. A French vintage linen sheet for a slip cover on the headboard and I've kept the Euro-shams from the Rose Cumming Indienne Toile. I had an inspired moment and made a dust skirt out of the plaid Hmong hemp-- they were for pillows to sell-- it is the exact amount to go all the way around so what can you do? I've also kept the indigo German linen panel from several months ago- the color helps to make sense of the fucked up 1890's Caucasian rug fragment. One Roman shade is installed (two more to finish) and the curtains are to be a deep purpley-red washed linen. I also found a very simple Victorian English chest of drawers that would be perfect but I have built in drawers so I don't need it (I remind myself) and my money is to go to buy textiles on my Christmas trip to Hong Kong and Beijing--yay. More pics tomorrow.

A new commission from the client whose pillow I crafted from Nana Joseph's sweater. Click on the photos for a clearer view-- I don't know what's up today.

This is from a favorite Pendelten Shirt--a gift for her sister.

The back is a linen cotton. It's 18 x 18 and has an invisible zipper.

I have a new label

I've been doing commissions of pillows out of vintage clothing--old to something new- that otherwise might just stay folded in a drawer, hanging in a closet, or be boxed up in the attic. Hopefully the things that we own are beautiful and having meaning.

Silk Pillow

This is made from a silk that I have had for about 8 years. I had yards and yards of it. It has for me a narrative about where I got it, what I've used it for, and the ups and downs of liking it and not liking it. For this pillow I've washed the silk and dried it and then ironed giving it a rich patina. I've showed it to you before but I'm running short.

Our Undine Pillow

Pontius Design one of a kind pillows can now be found at Gary Gibson on Beverly in Los Angeles. The above pillow was made by me out of a late 19th c European homespun linen and embroidered with vintage cotton thread.

The quote is from my favorite Edith Wharton novel, Custom of the Country. Wharton describes her main character Undine as being fiercely independent and yet passionately imitative...

She wanted to surprise every one by her dash and originality, but she could not help modelling herself on the last person she met, and the confusion of ideals thus produced caused her much perturbation when she had to choose between two courses.

Sheer applique panel. Not made for my window.

But I wish I had made them for my windows.

Areas of the fabric are cut away to let more light in.

These have a center draw for the front of a vanity.

Surging on the back side so you see both black and white threads on the front.

A curtain panel and pair of curtains that I made for a local designer. This is from a vintage 60's Marimekko panel that I had stored away for six or seven years. The shorter curtains (23 x 29 ea) were done for below a vanity. The top single panel (54 x 78) was made for a window next to the vanity. It is applique on a thin Indian cotton. Let the light in!
