Tumblr is great but the mobile posting app sucks!

I have been using my tumblr app for quite some time and really enjoy publishing my random thoughts to my tumblr blog.

The problem is I cannot add an image to my posts when blogging on my mobile smartphone.

As I like to enjoy using Pinterest to share my links this is always a problem as there are never any photos on my blog post.

Well I can add photos later using my laptop or desktop computer, this is an extra staff I would rather avoid.

By using my voice to text apps on my android phone, I can quickly create content for my readers without having to spend a lot of time typing.

If only I could add photos to my tumblr blog while using my mobile phone I would be happy. However, the Tumblr mobile app leaves much to be desired!

This is what led me to my search for better mobile blogging posting apps.

My search for mobile blogging let me back to blogger. Blogger has been around for a long time and was eventually acquired by Google. How silly of me to forget that Google usually has the answers to my content creation needs.

I am about to try to add a photo to this blog post using nothing but a smart phone. Let's see if it works.

Well I can add a link by selecting text first, I find myself rather disappointed by the fact I can still not add a photo to this blog post using my smartphone.

There is a growing trend happening in the Google Plus community that is making it difficult for aspiring content creators and curators to be seen and noticed by their readers.

To the user who wants more followers or just wants to actually be read:
- Help your users organize their content streams so they will see you!

To the avid reader tired of sifting through irrelevant content posts:
- Help the people you follow to get your quality attention at the right time

_This is just a short introduction post to give readers an idea as to where I am heading in this series. I have been putting a lot of effort into this subject and hope this and subsequent articles will be helpful. Rather than wait for all my notes to be edited and finalized I decided to start publishing in small chunks.

Reasons Why Circle Management Is Necessary

By organizing your circles effectively you are able to see what you need and at the right time you need it. By having your content professionally organized you are ensuring that you do not get distracted, you do not miss important updates and you do not get a headache from information overload.

Organizing Circles by Topic Alone is Not Enough

Instead of thinking I hope someone shares my post
Think: Who's post can I share?

Instead of thinking How can I get people to my profile?
Think: What discussion can I get involved with?

We attract what we need by giving what we need to others.

It is easy to get hung up on wanting instant results and fast growth when trying to create a network of readers. A better approach is to remember that you have some time to put in before things take off. For example if you accept that you will post at least one thing a day and share one thing, plus comment on 3 people's posts then after 3 months you would have created 90 posts and reached out to 270 people.

Never quit and be persistent and consistent. Success in any endeavor usually appears to happen overnight but in reality it was the collective culmination of all the tasks you performed to get to that point. When you allow yourself a period of time to get results you no longer approach tasks with a sense of urgency. Urgency only breads stress.

If you are just starting out, and no one seems to be reading your content just remember that you are creating a history of activity. One day after what seems like an endless period of being ignored, just one key person with share one of your posts and then a momentum will kick in.

Mapping Your Life Into a Vision

Success is more than economic gains, titles, and degrees. Planning for success is about mapping out all the aspects of your life.

Similar to a map, you need to define the following details: origin, destination, vehicle, backpack, landmarks, and route.

Origin: Who you are

A map has a starting point. Your origin is who you are right now. Most people when asked to introduce themselves would say, “Hi, I’m Jean and I am a 17-year old, senior highschool student.” It does not tell you about who Jean is; it only tells you what she does.

To gain insights about yourself, you need to look closely at your beliefs,values, and principles aside from your economic, professional, cultural,and civil status.

You can also reflect on your experiences to give you insights on your good and not-so-good traits, skills, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. Upon introspection, Jean realized that she was highly motivated, generous, service-oriented, but impatient.

Destination: A vision of who you want to be

“Who do want to be?” this is your vision. Now it is important that you know yourself so that you would have a clearer idea of who you want to be; and the things you want to change whether they are attitudes, habits, or points of view.

If you hardly know yourself, then your vision and targets for the future would also be unclear. Your destination should cover all the aspects of your being: the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.

Vehicle: Your Mission

A vehicle is the means by which you can reach your destination. It can be analogized to your mission or vocation in life. To a great extent, your mission would depend on what you know about yourself.

Travel Bag: Your knowledge, skills, and attitude

Food, drinks, medicines, and other travelling necessities are contained in a bag. Applying this concept to your life map, you also bring with you certain knowledge, skills, and attitudes. These determine your competence and help you in attaining your vision.

Given such, there is a need for you to assess what knowledge, skills, and attitudes you have at present and what you need to gain along the way. This two-fold assessment will give you insights on your landmarks or measures of success.

Landmarks and Route: S.M.A.R.T. objectives

Landmarks confirm if you are on the right track while the route determines he travel time. In planning out your life, you also need to have landmarks and a route. These landmarks are your measures of success. These measures must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound.

Anticipate Turns, Detours, and Potholes

The purpose of your life map is to minimize hasty and spur-of-the moment decisions that can make you lose your way. But oftentimes our plans are modified along the way due to some inconveniences, delays, and other situations beyond our control. Like in any path, there are turns, detours, and potholes thus; we must anticipate them and adjust accordingly.

The Power Of Quality Followers vs. Quantity of Followers

Whether you are just getting started with Google+ or you are
an established member looking to improve your readership
it is easy to fall into old web 1.0 tactics where the most
exposures resulted in the most subscribers.

In todays social marketing world it is more important to make
smaller numbers count. Quality content plus user interaction
are the 2 main keys to success. This post covers the first.

Google Plus members with large follower numbers are not all created
equal. Aspiring members who want to get real results from their
networking and publishing activities should be focused on the
quality of their readers and not just the numbers.

Rather than following a bunch of people with large follower counts
in hopes of getting follow backs (can you say Twitter), you should
instead become an active member of the community by
reaching out to others.

Make your comments on topic by reading the discussion before
you arrived instead of making half assed me too types of
comments (ie: comments without engagement)
with the hope of getting noticed by other commentors.

It is not difficult to find posts on your topics of interest and get
involved in the discussions. By doing so you will get more ideas
for your business and maybe make a few friends at the same time.
You should not expect people to follow you though. it is not
necessary. You can easily have a circle of people that you
follow and stay in their awareness by visiting and contributing to their
posts.

I have several people I admire that I am learning from just because
we both participate in the same discussions. Having them follow me
back would be nice but I do not get offended if they do not. In some
ways it is better they do not follow me if they already have too much
to read in their streams.

I am working on an extensive lesson called Circle Management 101
that I hope will help the community to be able to follow more people
but for now just assume that most people will not follow you back.
You only want a few people to follow you in the beginning because
your objective should be to engage with your new followers.

Conclusion

It is clear to me that there are quality people out there making a difference
so there is hope. The key is in finding these people and making a
connection with them. Stop looking for followers and make your
contribution to the Google Plus community.

Followers will come later and they will be real people!

A funny thing happened on the way to the Internet.

So I get home today and find my Internet is down. Not sure why but there it is. Add to that the fact that the truck I am not using parked in front of my house got a ticket and a warning to remove it. I hasn't been insured for a few weeks.

I really wasn't planning on dealing with it till next week. But rules are rules. We are a society of laws after all. Government needs their money.

I am using Android today so I will not be available much. But just as I checked in +Eric Cantu had something kind to say. What great timing the universe unfolds on us when we least expect it! This is all confirmation to me that I am at the right place at the right time. After losing a few thousands contacts (long story) last year and basically starting from scratch, I have only been using Google+ a few weeks, but already I am grateful to those of you kind enough to follow my stuff, and those of you I follow for inspiration.

Let me end by saying, (once again) it is not the size of your follower lists nor any pre conceived expectation we may have about gain, but the plain honest exchange of information without agenda is what will transform many of us into huge successes in the next 12 months. If you are frustrated or wishing more people were reading your posts, just stick with it.

Right now we are building equity, earning a reputation. it all pays off down the road, trust me.

I know, kind of a cryptic title but It does reflect what I am thinking about. I am going to assume that most people would like to have a few more people reading their posts, right? Well we all like to have people read us, like us and essentially follow us.

Sometimes it just does't seem to happen very fast. Some of you might be here on Google+ just to connect with a few friends and family and if that is you then welcome! We love you too. The rest of this post however is dedicated to those who really do care about their follower counts and want toincrease their Google+ network.

Rule #1 Size Matters ... NOT
It is all too easy to think the number of your followers matters when in fact it is only a small part of your online presence. People with small networks of people can often wield more influence that those with thousands of readers. It all comes down to the quality of your contacts. This is why people who already have a large following are always on the look out for new contacts. (see rule 2)

Rule #2 No one is unapproachable
The people you admire are not in some unapproachable ivory tower forbidding you entrance. If you need someone's help, ask for it. We all love to give our opinions on things. Successful people are real people and no decent human being is going to shut you out unless you are breaking rule #3,

Rule #3 Focus on the sharing
Simply put, just start sharing what you know with the community. It does not matter if anyone is reading it now or not. You are building up your futue credibility so when people are deciding if they should follow you they can see a history of your posts.

Be excited when you get just one awesomely successful person you admire to comment or respond to your comment.

This is huge people! Just by conducting a search, which we already do every day, we can interact with the people posting the information we seek and it immediately can improve our influence and the size of our networks because the very act of searching - reading - responding leads back to people checking our profile and joining our circles.

No longer do you have to engage in aggressive marketing tactics. All you have to do is what you already do. Google Plus will eventually be much more than a social network. It is a way to connect everything we do, say and create in a way that helps us be not only more organized but more successful as well.

The entire digital world social network is changing dramatically whether people like it or not. Sooner or later our friends,competitors and peers will be using Google Plus. It is only a matter of time. The only choice that remains is if they are going to be ahead of their competitors or scrambling to catch up after everyone else has established their foothold.

It does not matter if you are a big business or a single individual. Anyone can position themselves to have a huge following of loyal contacts even if you are starting from scratch. Even if you have no product or service to sell. The way the world is going to transform in the next several years will be such that Google will be inter-twined in every aspect of our lives both personal and business alike.

Doom-sayers may cry out against this but in truth it is a good thing. If the entire world is going to be connected like thisanyway then it might as well be done by who can do it the best. The way the + sign works by popping up the name of everyone is amazing. Just that one aspect alone has made such a difference for me.

Lastly I want to publicly thank +Chris Lang again for the ebook he spent all week putting together. It really lays out why people should be on G+ and it has given me the inspiration I needed as it mirrors exactly what I have been thinking.

Being Followed Is Not Something You Make Happen,It is Something that Happens to you.

Every day I come across people that need help with their business and they are focused on the result they are looking for, and the things they think they need to do to get there. They tend to be more focused on what tools they need to use or what services they need to employ. They want to know how best to create messages that bring people to their products or services.

This is a flawed approach because when you are focused on bringing people to one of your end points whether it be a sale or a subscriber, the tendency is to mess things up in the details. Success is not about what you sell it is about who you are. You are the product, you or your company is the brand but in fact you should not even be selling at all!

This is a major reason for the misconception that you need hundreds and thousands of followers and subscribers to turn a good profit. This is due to another false assumption that only 2 or 3 per cent of the people will hand over their money.

They know instinctively that most people will not even be interested in what they are offering so rather than increasing their worth in their prospects' minds they just try to reach more eye balls.

Attacking People In the Pursuit of Quick Profits is a Killer

Most of the great wealthy entrepreneurs online started off by sharing a large amount of their intelligence free of charge without any expectation of rewards. In this quick, quick we want it nowmentallity of the world we get sidetracked by information and hung up on details. Suddenly hours have gone by while we have been doing so called research or trying to broadcast to as many people as we can or checking our stats or any one of another dozen things we think are important. While these things are important they should not be the primary objective.

It is more important to lead the way than to act like a leader. Form relationships by communicating with people. Just look at how many people post 10, 20 or even 30 twitter feeds in the space of like 3 minutes and there is not one single solitary bit of actual information in it at all! Nothing but 12 or 13 links is not going to suggest integrity to me and is a sure fire way to get yourself blocked by any serious user.

Even worse is 15 seconds after I post something, some joker tags my user names in a message and there is no message at all! No continuation of my topic, not even a 'hello, nice post'! This makes one look really clueless. The good news is that with so many people making these mistakes it is VERY easy to stand out from the crowd.

Now you may have some short term success due to the sheer volume of your activity but it is doomed to not last because you are not making any
connection with anyone.

Information overload and the splitting of our attention makes it increasingly difficult to keep up with the ever growing amount of information in our social network stream Google plus offers the aspect of creating circle that act to filter both incoming and outgoing stream of data and this is a great start, but we need to dig in and customize our accounts to get the maximum use of the system

When you follow someone you need to be clear as to why you are following them. Some people you will follow because you simply love their content and what they have to say, while others you may be following in hopes of them following you back. it is this latter category of contacts where the problem arises. Since everyone else besides you are also flooded with too much information you need to be sure that they 1) want to follow you and 2) will not regret following you.

Post your best general topical content to your public stream, less often

Rather than having potential followers see too much potential information from you, they need to see a modest amount of high quality content from you. You also need to let them know that you have other great stuff available in other circles. If someone comes to you and follows you they need to be able to tell you where to circle them.

Ask new followers which circles they are interested in.

If you for example publish most of your content to your public stream in the hopes of providing plenty of good reasons for your future follower to circle you back you may end up over doing it. A powerful tactic that I have not seen anyone else talk about yet is the concept of pre circling.

I did some experiments with my Google+ circles and learned the following:

I find someone I want to follow me back
I read their posts and profile and get a good idea about which of my topics they would like most
I follow them and add them to the circle I want them to read
They visit my stream and see a few public posts I made
But they also see the posts I made to their circle before they followed me!

This is a powerful feature of circles. If you add someone to a circle, even though they are not yet following you yet they will see the content of that circle before they follow you, regardless of what circle they put you in.

Personal Branding For Social Networking Success

Creating a following in social networks requires sharing quality content and building relationships over time. One of the challenges many people have is in understanding who they are. It is difficult to inspire others when you do not truly know where your talents are or how you can best share what you know.

While I am just getting started here on Google Plus I am still working on topics and appropriate circles to post to but I think most people following this stream will agree that personal branding is an important key in today's content driven environment.

Personally I am finding that because I have a diverse background from software development to music production and half a dozen other interests and talents (like we all do) that zero-ing in on what I should focus on is becoming a challenge. So one of my research projects is personal brandingand what follows are some good resources on that subject.

Hung Up On the Details?

Does anyone else get Hung Up On the Details?

In the past I was posting at several different blogs until I ran into a dillema. The more ideas I came across, the more confused I started to get.

I started seeing conflicts between by topical interests. I would think to myself “should I post to this blog or that blog?”. Before too long I got burned out with information overload and ended up creating nothing for a while!

I kept reading all over that you need a tightly focused niche topic for a blog to be successful. If you want a lot of traffic from the search engines it is important to keep your topics to a narrow range. Well I tried that by diversifying across multiple websites and months later I still found that competing for search engine traffic was just too time confusing. When you care too much about SEO your content starts to suffer.

The problem with having a lot of websites is that you end up wasting too much time jumping around from place to place. Then, when you try to keep your topics tightly focused you just limit yourself and your creative abilities. So I finally made a choice. I choose to not care about search engine optimization more than I care about creating the actual content.

Google Plus works fairly good as a blogging tool, well kinda. It lacks the html editor only found on the Profile/about page but I am warming up to doing more article posting here instead of on a blog.
