As always, my work was so much since the last post I made on this blog that I have been unable to keep up with my promise of posting daily. Nevertheless, I will strive to ensure you get some fodder on a regular basis, and if possible, on a daily basis. So, where were we? Uhmmm.. Where to find article writing work

There are so many places on the internet you can get article writing work. Freelancer, Odesk, Londonbrokers, iWriter, Elance, are all places you can get regular streams of work. Apart from Londonbrokers and iWriter where you select the articles that you want to write (mostly UAWs), in the other sites you are required to bid for a project and if a client likes your offer they will contact you on a Private Message (PMB) and then you can agree on the terms and conditions of service.

· For starters, you have to ensure that your online profile on these sites is impeccable. I would suggest you visit the sites immediately and create an online profile. Even if you are not ready to start writing now, you should create an account and leave it there. Why? You may ask. It is quite simple. When it comes to the internet, the age of a website, account, online profile, plays a significant role in determining how “experienced” you are in a particular field.

Thing about it this way… you will not be the only person bidding for projects from these freelancing websites. Mostly, the “employer” will look at your online profile and see how long it has been in existence. This is a good indication that you know what you are talking about when bidding for the projects online.

· I always advice people to create samples of articles of about 300-500 words. When you have 5-10 of these samples, you can post them on article directories (for free). Article directories include the likes of Ezine, Hubpages, Articlebase etc. Why should you do this? Normally, article directories are monitored by real human beings. The articles undergo a thorough check before they are posted. When your article is approved and published on any of these directories, it will be an indication that you are good at what you do.

Besides, most clients would request for a sample when you will be placing your bid online. Rather than attaching your sample on the PMB, why not provide a link to one of your published articles in one of the online article directories?

Article Writing – How Viable is it when you want to Make a Living from Article Writing?

I personally believe that article writing is by far the easiest and most straight forward way of making money online. See, I have been writing for close to 8 years now, but I think I am at a point in my life where I feel I need to do something different. I started out as an article writer, at a time when I was paid as little as $0.5 per article of 500 words. Because I was establishing base and building my online profile, I did not mind. As of this writing, the much I am getting for a single article of 500 words is $10-15 dollars depending on the article niche and keyword used. As I mentioned, though, I am at a point in my life where I feel I need to do something different. Just last month, I started learning Internet Marketing and so far so good, I cannot complain.

One thing you should understand is that internet marketing encompasses article writing, so you need to have the experience to be able to start out on internet marketing. The reason why I love article writing is because it is quite easy to get started. Unlike internet marketing where you will need a substantial amount of money to invest before you start reaping the benefits, article marketing is simple. All you need is a computer, a reliable internet connection, and a good typing speed.

Let’s do the math here. I have a typing speed of 80wpm, meaning on a typical day I can write up to 20 articles depending on the niche. However, it is not every day I wake up with the moods to write. Sometimes I can do only 2 articles and am so done for the day. Normally, I tend to work with moods… if you are a writer this is what we call writers block. There are times I am so motivated I can write like forever, and at other times I feel like it is too much work.

I take an average of 10-15 minutes on one article… after every 3 articles I take a break, listen to music, drink some water etc. Breaking away from the computer gives you some time to relax and get new inspirations for writing.

So back to the math. Assuming a client is paying $10 per article, it means when I do 20 articles in a day I can make up to $200 a day. (Later on I will post screenshots of my online account so you can see what I am talking about). As is evident, you can make up to $1000 a month, assuming you work for only a few days in a typical month.

Drawbacks of article writing

One thing, it is very hard to find clients who are paying that much amount of money especially when you are getting started. You will need to have a very good online profile, and most clients will expect you to write as the native writers. (Those who were born and bred in English speaking countries).

However, if you are ready to start with little, remember I told you I started out with $0.5; the main reason was I was building my online profile. Today, I have clients calling me from all over the world, simply because they were referred to me by someone who was satisfied by my work. The average you can get as a Kenyan who is getting started is $3 per article. This means that if you are fast enough like me, you can be able to make $30 a day for 10 articles or $60 for 20 articles… multiply that by 24 days of the month… assuming you will maintain a “normal” working schedule as is with most companies in Kenya, and you can rest assured by the end of the month you will have at the very least $720 and utmost $1440. It is not hard, as I always say, I have been there, done that I know it is very much possible!

Sorry guys, I went MIA on here. It has been forever since I updated it but not to worry because am now back in full swing. You see, I have been working tirelessly online, to a point I had to actually take a real one month holiday and just relax as I put my priorities in order. Online jobs plus I decided to go back to school and do something useful with my spare time when am away from my computer. The problem with making money online is the fact that you spend over ¾ of your typical day on the computer (read the internet). There are times I wake up and feel like I just want to lie down and do nothing. I look at my laptop and feel like crying. Anyway, that is a story for another day, will be telling you ways in which you can motivate yourself and get back to making money online.

So how do you start making cash online and probably supplement your normal salary with some $$$$? Well, everyone dreams and wishes to make some real cash, unless of course you are the who is who in the society, dining with the high and mighty, the likes of Ngina Kenyatta, Jaba Kenyatta and June Ruto. You do not have to sit there and whine all day long. How about you get started on what the entire world is doing at this time and age? Who knows? You may be able to change your whole life and turn it around completely.

The good news is that you will be lost for options when it comes to making money online. The other good news is that you will avoid traffic jams, crazy schedules of having to wake up very early in the morning and yes, you will be generating income at the comfort and privacy of your home or office. The best thing about online jobs is the flexibility part where you work when is most convenient for you. The bad part about making money online is the fact that you will lead a very lonely life. Apart from the few social engagements you will have on Facebook and twitter, it is highly likely you will not have real friends to talk to. Online jobs can really get in the way of a person’s social life. Ask me, been there, done that I know how it feels. But if you are cool with virtual friends, be my guest!

I wish I knew then what I know now; I could be a millionaire, dining and wining with the high and mighty in the society. Luckily, it is not very late for me, at least I am still young… or am I? Anyway, my age is not the point of focus here. Before I started working as a web content developer and internet marketer, I always wondered how someone could manage to make a decent living on the internet.
