When we were growing up, being nice was important to people around us and our elders especially. But if you noticed, that word nice changed to being respectful. Some men get this, while others didn’t, thus the nice guy is born. The nice guy constantly struggles with dating because he always feels that girls want nice guys, however when they get one, they ignore them. Lets explore three things that nice guys do to put themselves where they are: alone.

Being too accessible. Its understandable that you like her, and that you want to spend time and be with her. However, that doesn’t mean that you stop your whole life for her, especially when you are just getting to know her. There are things you have to do, such as live your life. So don’t adjust everything around for her. I am not saying purposely ignore her, that would be rude, however, if she calls and you are busy, its ok to contact her back when you can. If you have plans, its nice to rearrange them for her, however, if where you need to be is important, its not going to crush her heart. Any respectable woman will want you to take care of your business, as she is taking care of hers.

Being too nice. This is the one that has men frustrated a lot. You are nice to someone, or they express to their friends that you are a nice guy, but you wonder why you are still single, especially when you feel you are being respectful. Lets take a look. First and foremost, if your female friends, or the woman of interest, is describing you as a nice guy, that mostly means that she either doesn’t know enough about you, or doesn’t have anything else to say that is more appealing.

Next, being respectful and nice are two different things. Being too nice can appear fake, or even be conceived as a push over. Most people don’t want to be considered a pushover, because its thought of as weak. Women don’t want a weak person as a mate. Think of it this way, everyone loves to buy, but doesn’t want to be sold. Think of buying as respectful, and being sold as too nice. No one wants to be sold, because they feel as if they were duped, or a fast one was pulled on them. People want to feel in control of things, and women are the same. Remember they choose the man, thus they tend to not want a weak one. Why? What if things are tough, and the family needs someone to hold it together, a pushover can’t really do that can they? Im not saying that I haven’t gone down that path before, but I can assure you I will not again. Will you?

Being too agreeable. Have you ever met someone who just agrees with you all the time? Didn't think so. Even people who work for you, and you are responsible for their review and paycheck don’t agree with you all the time. However, nice guys do this all too often and expect brownie points for it. Remember, there is nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone, especially the person you like. Just learn to handle her objections or difference in opinion well. A few ways to do it are, to recognize her point of view, express to her how you see it is important to her, and then say you disagree or you feel differently about it. This is important because you clarify what she said, and express that you see its importance to her. When you explain your point of view, if you do (because its not always necessary to get your point across), say a few words and if she wants to explore it more, then so be it. If not, no worries. Remember its not about who is right or wrong, but that you truly heard each other out.

5 Things 4 2014: #1 Commit to 3 Things & Follow Through

New Years resolutions are a great way to start over and get things done. However, by February, about 90% of people fail on there resolutions or goals. Most likely because its to large or overwhelming. So instead of doing the same thing this year as last, make it simple. Pick three goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them.

Break them down into smaller attainable goals, but don’t relent until you have achieved them. You will feel much better when you commit to these goals and achieve them instead of just failing at a bulk of them.

Commitment is a difficult thing for most. Especially when things are tough, or not looking up. However, always remember that it’s better to drive one home than leave the bases loaded. So get focused, saddle up and give it you all in 2014.

Reduce Stress & Smile More. With all that we have to do, and all the pressure that comes with it, find some way to relieve stress. Its not good or nor fun to carry around all this stress that doesn’t do anyone any good. Find a few new hobbies, partake in something that you love more often or drink a glass of wine. Exercise is also a great way to relieve stress. The idea is to relax a lot more than we were in the past so you can enjoy life more.

Have you ever seen someone out and about, or at the office who seems to be smiling for no reason? That is someone you should get to know or mimic. Smiling is something to surely add to your to do list in 2014. Why not smile more? It has nice health benefits such as reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and puts you in a better mood. Not to mention its way more attractive and helps with confidence. Men always remember a woman’s smile and I'm sure it goes the other way too. So see your dentists 2-3 times this year so those pearly whites are ready to shine and smile.

5 Things 4 2014: #3 Be On Time

Ever here that if you are early you are on time and if you are on time you are late? Punctuality is a simple thing you can do that speaks volumes. No one likes to wait for someone or something, especially in business or on a date. There was a study done once that said one of the major indicators of success is punctuality. Is it hard at times, yes however you can do it.

First commit to being early by 5-10 minutes. This will give you a lot of leeway if things happen such as traffic, that slow mofo that somehow has all the time in the world, or that long long light that always turns red when you are in a hurry.

Next, keep organized. A lot of time is spent finding or looking for things because they are not ready. Also holding a calendar digitally, is has its significant advantages. Not only entering the location can give you a time estimation, it can also help you save time in a crunch to load the directions or make changes right from your smartphone. Google Calendar is great.

Additionally, plan ahead so you know where you are going. Before navigation, we used to all make sure we knew where it was. Now with navigation, we just assume to find it on the way. It is always better to make sure you know generally where you are going. Check it out on Google maps. Great estimator.

Be realistic on time. It is pretty common to underestimate how long it takes to do something. We think it takes 15, but its 25. An hour is good enough, but you look at the clock and almost two hours has passed by. Give yourself some buffer for errors, snags and unexpected issues. If you finish early, then take the time to rest, or review your schedule and make adjustments. The key is to start and stay on time.

If nothing else works, let that person know you will meet them 5-10 minutes later than you actually will meet them. This also gives you sometime. Commit to being punctual again and watch your success soar.

5 Things 4 2014. #4 Give Yourself More Credit

A lot of us work really hard and are striving to become better every day. We fail and get back up. We win some and lose some. However, we can rarely take the time and see what we have done and appreciate it. We can get so caught up on our failures; we sometimes don’t look at our successes.

This year appreciate the victories that you have and know that you are better than you might think you are. Removing a negative mindset is like removing an old bumper sticker. It may take time, but remove it, but do it.

So if you are someone who leaves everything on the table everyday, someone who tries their best or someone who is working to improve yourself daily, don’t stop moving forward, but realize you have done more than you realize and feel proud of what you have done. It’s ok to celebrate you.

5 Things for 2014. #5: Decide To Move Forward

Sometimes we get stuck on events, people or situations that hold us back from moving forward. Somehow the emotions that are attached to the event or person keep us in the moment, and we cant let got. To get things right in 2014, make the decision to move forward.

There is a story of a three guys traveling and they all cross this bridge to the next large city. Each traveling and holding two sacks. The first guy goes across and has them both in front of him. The toll person asks, “Why do you have both sacks in front of you?” He responds, so that I remember all the good the bad things that have happened and keep them close to my heart.” He moves on.

The second guy comes up and he has one sack in front of him, and the other behind him. The same toll attendant asks, “Why do you have one sack in front of you and the other behind you?” He responds, “So I can see all the good I have done before me and carry all the bad behind me.” He moves on.

The third guy walks up and has the same set up as the previous guy, but the toll attendant noticed that on the sack behind him, he cut a small hole in the sack. The attendant asks, “I noticed that you have a small hole in the sack behind you, why is that?” The man said, “So l can leave behind what doesn’t matter anymore because my future is more important.”

Leave your baggage behind and look to something greater in 2014.
It’s hard to move forward when you are always looking behind you. Take the time to make things right within yourself and be the person you can.

Not to long ago, it didn’t matter if you were in Chicago or San Francisco, the cold chill of winter made its presence well known. With many places in the county with the temperatures below freezing day after day, it can be hard Christmas shopping or even just going to work day to day. Keeping warm is can be difficult, however with the right layering, you can surely be warm and stylish at the same time.

Simple:

Don’t Sacrifice Comfort. What good is it to be uncomfortable outside all the time, even if you are warm? When picking fabrics or materials, stick to the ones that you feel confortable. If wool makes you itchy, then try cotton, cashmere or flannel. The worst thing is to buy something, and not like wearing it. There are a lot of options, so pick the right one for you.

Sophisticated:

Accessories. Anyone who knows fashion, know that accessories help keep you warm and stylish, so when the temperatures drop, start with a scarf and a nice hat or beanie.When choosing the fabric, stick to high-end wool, cashmere, alpaca or a blend. These will maintain comfort, keep you warmer and last longer. When choosing a scarf, get one that is around 72”, which is longer. This way it looks nice when it lies elegantly from your neck onto your coat. Additionally, when it gets really cold or snowy, you can use it to cover your face.

If you choose the shorter scarf, that is for when you are not using a coat, and just have a sports coat. It looks way better. With that, there are a few alternatives that can really help you stay warm and reduce your cost.

Flannel Sheets. One of the best-kept secrets, which are wide open in the Midwest and northern climates, is flannel sheets. The soft fabric, which is associated with lumberjacks and plaid patterns are incredibly soft, and comforting.

Those plaid patterns are now replaced with solid colors, stripes and respectable prints that wont embarrass you if you decide to have company. Make sure they are 100% cotton for quality, and are already hypo-allergenic for those who see that as important.

The goose and the duck are the best, you can go to sleep with a t-shirt and short, or less if you like, and you will be warm, and in some cases hot. Goose is really for the winter as it is the best for really cold temperatures.

Duck is good for spring, and if need be the summer, or if you tend to sleep with a warm body temperature. The feathers are that great. Why do you think those birds are hangout while we are all bundled up.

The caution is that these two can be cause real allergic reaction, so the hyper and hypo are great alternatives for those who have allergies. Make sure to get a high thread count and if possible a feather bed underneath. If you cant get out of bed during weekends, its not my fault, I told you so.

The fireplace. Nothing says winter and comfort like a fireplace. Most of us grew up near one, in our home or visiting a home with one and second only to the rain, is perfect to keep warm in the winter. Just as pie, cinnamon or turkey fills the home, so does that crackling fire as you close your eyes and relax from the day’s stressful adventures.

Most condo’s and houses these days don’t have a real one so a gas or special fuel variety such as nu-flame as a replacement. If you are to get one of these, the heat is nowhere near a real fireplace, but the view is spectacular.

It's as if you are burning the precious blue crystals that Heisenberg made himself. Don’t worry; you won’t be breaking any hearts, just warming them. Look for a wall mounted one for the room, they are great.

Have you ever talked with someone and felt that you had a connection, or felt that they speak really well? That they have clear and nice way of speaking that flows easily and have the right things to say? Most likely its not by accident. Having good vocal skills is important in today's world, and using the right words is paramount. At the same time, also transitional words are just as important. The wrong way to transition can make yourself seem unsure of yourself or even show a lack of confidence. Here are three words that you should avoid using incorrectly, to help you speak better.

Simple

Like. This word is normally used to mean similar, or carries the characteristics so what you are describing. Like also means a fair attraction or resemblance of. What like does not mean is a great space filler. These days, the word like has replaces ah and um four times over. we tend to use this word to prevent the person we are speaking with, giving us the opportunity to complete our thought. It is used way too casually and makes you appear less knowledgeable and confident.

Instead of using this word in between thoughts, sentences or ideas, just pause for a moment. Pausing does give the person listening to you a chance to notice that you are making an important point, or reflecting on what you are about to say, which makes your conversation carry more confidence than using “like” two or three times before speaking.

Sophisticated

So. This word has creeped into the modern day vernacular, and constantly misused. “So”, means to a great extent or an alternative to therefore. However, if you pay attention, you can see it used in two ways. First, when someone starts a conversation. This is where I see this word most, and its used to draw your attention someone you are talking to. Such as, “Soooooo,”.

If you really need someone’s attention, you can call their name. That usually works. The second way “so” is used is a fill in word to change topics or direction of a conversation. This may work sometimes, but most of the time, its just annoying. “So” is different than its verbal cousin “well”, which is normally used to begin answering a question. Why not just answer it? Well, I don’t know.

Classic

But. Of all the words that can cause some serious damage in a conversation, without the person really knowing it, is the word but. The essence of the word is to set apart from or present a contrasting opinion or opposition to what was said before. This presents a harsher point to be taken by the receiving person. Here is an example, ever hear the words, “I love you but,”, or “you did pretty well this quarter, but,”.

In some cases, but presents itself as to day everything before it doesn't matter or has little significance to what is said next. This can make the person you are talking to become less engaged in the conversation or even more so set things up for a hostile conversation. Instead try using transitional words such as, “yet”, “I also”, and “something else I noticed is…” are nice soft ways to help you change direction and introduce a different idea, while also respecting the other person.

These days, a gentleman needs to make sure he has the essentials, this also includes his wallet. I have seen so many men out there with wallets that are as thick as dictionaries. Not only is it an eyesore, it's also unnecessary. Lets look at some things that you can adjust to make things much easier.

Simple

Old Receipts. In today’s world it is so easy to keep track of your expenses. With some companies and banks now having email receipts, there is no need to keep them in your wallet. You can keep them forever virtually. Additionally, most banks have the option to track your expenses on their website. If not, you can use mint.com. A nice website where you can track all your expenses from your credit cards to your bank accounts. This also helps you look at your upcoming bills and sends a reminder. This way you can reduce clutter in your wallet and increase the happiness of your pocket because there will be extra space. If you do need to carry receipts, when you get home, put them in a box, and when they clear you account with online banking, throw them away. messy wallet is a bad one.

Important Documents. There is no need to keep important documents with you at all times. In the past, it was normal to keep documents such as your social security card, or extra identification card on you, but with the damage that could be done with identity theft is in some cases unrecoverable. Keep your social security card, identification card, passport or other documents at home or your safety deposit box. Since they are rarely used, then you can rarely need to access them, thus keep them in a safe place.

Classic:

Limit cash & credit cards. To control spending, its a good idea not to carry too much cash or extra credit cards. An added bonus is that you reduce your risk of losing more if something happens to you. With so many places accepting credit and debit cards these days, there is little reason to actually have cash on hand. Just bring the cards you intend to use and cash you intend to spend, thus making things much easier for you.

How To Compliment A Woman

Over the weekend, at a wedding, I met a pretty amazing woman. Someone I felt I needed to meet. We had light conversation, got to know each other a little better, and I enjoyed the rest of my evening with my friends after she departed. When that happens to a lot of men when the see someone who they are interested in, either because of how she looks, or what she is about, they need to find a way to approach her. That for some men is easy, however for others it can be so difficult. Although I didn’t use any of these ways to meet her, here are a few that will surely help you break the ice.

Simple

Shoes. Take a lesson from Spike Lee and Michael Jordan. Is it the shoes? It sure is in this case. Women love shoes. Just think about it for a moment, women buys a pair of shoes for every occasion, and typically guys complain about how many they have. The shoes make the outfit, so why wouldn’t a woman want to hear a man say she has nice shoes? More importantly, women notice a man’s shoes before a lot of things when she see’s a man. How he takes care of his shoes is a good indicator of how he is hygiene wise. So if she pays attention to your shoes, why not pay attention to hers?

Sophisticated

Accessories. Women are the respected queens of accessories. The concept that accessories make the outfit comes from careful coordination and brings out the colors or particular aspects of the outfit. Lets take a belt for instance, the right belt can transform her whole outfit. Make her look thinner, more curvaceous, and eve taller. The right earrings, or bracelet can make her look that much nicer. However, the best part is that it may help her feel more glamorous, or beautiful. Women take a lot of tender loving care in selecting the right accessories, so if you were to comment on that, she will surely appreciate it.

Nails or Hair. There is nothing more specific about a woman than her hair and nails. Women can buy the same dress, get the same accessories, but a new haircut is specific to the woman. No two woman will look the same. Hair is tied to the occasion, and in some cases to what is going on in their lives. What is most alarming is that men don't notice when women cut their hair. If you ask a woman, most of the time, unless its really cut short, or the hair color is drastically changes, men don't notice. So if you know her or see her daily and you notice, that means you pay attention to her, and that is important. Everyone wants some form of attention, just make sure its respectable. Let her know that you like the change, unless you don’t, then don’t mention it.

Nails are significant because they go unnoticed for one reason: they are taken for granted. Woman’s hands are precious, and they do their best to take care of them. So its assumed by most men that they are done. When you listen to music or have small talk, they talk about getting their nails done, and it can take some serious time to make sure they are right. So if you see a woman, and they are consistently done, then you most likely won’t comment on them. However, if you take a look at a lot of women’s hands, they are not in the best of shape. There are some hands out there that need some serious help. This is not to say that a woman isn’t a woman. We have to look at what she does at work or her spare time, which can impact how they look. Then if you look at those who actually take care of their nails, you see how nice they are in comparison, thus you now appreciate the time it takes. She will know that and appreciate you took the time to properly note it. Be sincere. Great lead in is to say something along the lines of, “I would have chosen that color myself”, or “That color looks way better on you than me.” Get a smile every time.

Bring Style Back To The Office

With so many companies these days relaxing the rules of dress at work, you don't see too many people dress up in the morning to go to work, let alone dress up for interviews they way they should. With companies such as Johnson & Johnson (jnj) saying its ok to wear jeans to work daily, and other companies allowing khakis and polo for everyday attire, the days of Mad Men, where dressing well in the office to make an impression is gone.

Simple:

Dress in the Same Color or Pattern. It is known that if people have things in common, it connects them. Sometimes its the same car, or the same music, or just the same interest makes it easier for people to connect. So when people wear the same color, not only do they feel more connected, but a part of something. They become more relatable. So pick a day out of the week that you like most, I suggest Thursday or Friday, and wear the same color. You will be surprised with the outcome. Don't worry, you won’t look like a KPop Band, but then again that might not be such a bad thing.

Sophisticated:

Dress Up Day. Cisco Systems is a place where you can wear jeans and a polo shirt most of the time. You don't have to see clients directly, or face the public constantly. The tech industry is known for its relaxed and acceptable dress code from Apple all the way to Deloitte.

However, some companies, and some people are seeing the need and appreciating for dressing nicer at work. There is something about dressing up that makes you feel better, because you look better, thus so some associates are taking action. Cisco Systems, in the San Jose area, is participating in Tie Thursdays, where they dress up every Thursday. It has changed the attitude and atmosphere in the office in a positive way. Making more connections with between associates that may have not been there before. It first started with less than four people, and now has grown to past a dozen. When associates pass someone who is participating in the halls, it’s a great way to explain why and get someone on board with why, which is to bring class back to the office.

In other cases companies are taking action such as WePay. Located in Palo Alto, Ca, WePay participates in Fancy Fridays. Avoid The Yellow. Ever wonder why you have those yellow stains under your arms, especially when you know you took a shower? Well its not the lack of soap or water you are using, but he antiperspirant. Aluminum, or Aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly to be exact, is what causes your armpit stains to appear. There may be an antiperspirant that doesn't have one, I just haven't found one yet. So the best this is to switch to deodorant, most of them don't carry this chemical in them, and your problem is solved. The fall is a great time to get used to deodorant because it will take some getting used to, but it is worth it in the end.

Avoid The Letters. Have you ever seen someone wearing a nice dress shirt and a word, sentence or logo underneath it? That’s what happens when you wear a nice dress shirt and an undershirt with writing. Unless intentional, which is rare to say the least, undershirts should be blank. No letters or logos. The dress shirt isn’t made to compete with another pattern.

Classic

Avoid The Wrong Color. Some men are really on point by having a black or grey undershirt with a darker dress shirt, and the lighter one’s with the lighter colors. However, its not very good to have a nice lighter dress shirt with a dark undershirt. It makes your whole look strange, and the contrasting colors. Stick to the white undershirt with the light colors and a medium grey, if at all with the darker ones.

As the days get shorter and the warmer days are rare to come by, so do the colors for the fall in 2013. If you are thinking of just the typical dark colors, think again. This year there are a few colors that we haven't seen in the fall for quite some time which is exciting and some other colors that are all well to known. So the next time you are out and about, scoop up a few shirts or accessories in these colors to welcome the fall the right way.

Purple. This is a surprising color this year, which is normally reserved for spring and summer. With purple entering the fall collection, it may be fashion’s recognition of the Indian summer we are projected to experience this year. The brightness of purple helps you stand out, but not too much for it is the color of royalty. So sticking to the lighter colors such as lavender will have a statement, but something that isn't too feminine. Remember, real men wear purple too, so don’t be afraid of wearing it casually or at work. Grey always looks good with purple. It provides a nice base color that isn’t too dark or light and allows purple to come out gracefully. Best with accessories such as ties, pocket squares or even a shirt with another color. Other colors that work well with purple are blue, green and mustard. With blue stick to the darker colors, along with green, unless you use an olive color. That goes really well. Mustard is typically used in the warmer months, however, if its warm outside and you got a mustard colored article of clothing, go for it.

Green. This is another new comer to fall fashion, as green is a nice mood color. Typically representing nature and saving the environment, this color is the easiest to the eyes, and can in some cases actually improve vision. Its interesting because wives in the middle ages wore green to represent fertility, which would be fitting in the fall since you and that special someone will be inside a whole lot more. That's right. Dark Green is a color that symbolizes wealth, and when paired nicely can be a great base color as it would with maroon, or as the lead color as paired with darker blues, grays, or even browns to have a more natural look. If wearing a shirt, make sure its darker and not pastel, and accessories can be nice to help draw some attention this fall. Key spots for this are the tie, pocket square and the scarf.

Blue. A regular in the colder months, blue is continuing its presences from the summer into the fall. Blue is a great color, especially when giving speeches and interviews, because it symbolizes loyalty. Note this, if the president is in a position of power, and control, he wears the red tie, however, if he made a mistake, or needs to give not so good news, he wears a blue one. Thus following this for the modern gentleman, blue is great for suit, and a base color for shirts. Try to stick to striped, checkered or lighter blue shirts so that the tie can really stand out. Casually, blue jeans are a good base, but if wearing slacks, then blue is a great non threatening color to wear. the lighter blue shirt with the darker blue sweater is a great combination. Every man should have a blue dress shirt ready to go at all times.

Maroon. The slightly darker version of red, maroon, is perfect for the fall and go to deep into the colder months. Meaning healing, friendship and sensual, maroon is your darker color that will help you show color in a soft way. Pairing well extremely with mustard, and brown, maroon will surely catch someone’s attention. Green takes a whole other feel when paired with maroon which is more elegant than the Christmas pairing you are used to, but make sure you have more of one than the other, and not even quantities. Although I have seen black work, stick to the medium and lighter greys to look better. White does really well, especially when its a shirt, the maroon is amazing in color, especially with patterns or textures.

To get by in life, you need to know a lot of good people. Obviously your doctor, in which you should visit twice a year to make sure that things are going alright. Additionally a good dentist and florist among other things to make life easy for you. But in the end, there are three people you should know and keep in touch with very well. They will not only help you in a multitude of areas, but when in a bind, can affect more areas in a positive sense than any other.

Simple

Butcher. Just as they say in real estate, location, location, location. When it comes to cooking meat, is the cut, the cut, the cut. If you know anything about cooking, or barbecuing, the one thing that is important is the cut of meat. It changes how you prep, how you cook, the ingredients used, and how you serve the meal. So getting a long or knowing the right butcher at the grocery store or meat market can help you avoid a lot of mistakes, and give you great ideas.

Asking them questions on how to prepare, when that good cut of meat is coming in, and ways to cook is all in the mind of a great butcher. They know seafood, pork, beef, and even some of the exotic meats. For vegetarians, there are some butchers, especially in gourmet supermarkets, about great alternatives and where to get them. So next time you are inside the market, instead of just asking for a particular type of meat and leaving, strike up a conversation and watch your possibilities expand.

Tailor/seamstress. No matter how young or old you are, one thing is certain is that you will gain and lose weight. Some people more drastic than others, especially when your goal is to gain or lose weight. Knowing that, and knowing that your clothes should fit you the best possible, then you need to have someone who knows how to do that best. The cut of a suit, or the fit of a shirt can make the difference in how it looks on you, and how others perceive you. Therefore, having the right tailor or seamstress that can make the right adjustments makes a difference. Price is important, quality is more important.

Banker. We all work hard to make money, and hopefully we work harder to preserve that money too. Paying fees and not taking advantage of tax breaks, discounts or using your balances in either the right place or in a better place is important. So having a banker or two to discuss with your finances is essential. You can save a lot by not paying for a lot.

Think about this question. How have you determined that the way you are doing banking is the most cost effective or convenient? When was the last time you sat and truly talked to a banker about your financial situation? The interesting thing is that we spend more time planning vacations, than our retirement or going over our finances. We see our dentist and doctor twice a year, so why not see your banker at least once a year? You would be surprise on how this can make a huge difference.

With the summer coming to an end, and Labor Day coming up, there is time for one last summer trip. A trip that doesn’t have to be far, complicated, or the same old national monuments that everyone else goes to this time of year. If you think a little inside the box, and look at what you got, you can find some great ideas that are right in front of you.

Simple
Explore the city. It is said that when you live somewhere, you typically only really see the city when you have guests or when you first move there. That happened a lot to people that I know, and even myself. When giving tours of the city, I learned more about it than before. People ask why, and normally you feel that you live right there so you can see it anytime. Well this weekend is a great way to change that. Why don’t you take a two or the holiday weekend and explore a city that you thought you knew or wanted to know. So if you live in Chicago, or San Francisco, stay there for the weekend and explore as if you never were there. Pick neighborhood that you have never been to or haven’t been in years to see what has changed. I can guarantee that you will fond something that you like that you haven’t seen before. The best part is that it will seem new in a place that may have felt old. If the city closest to you is small, then pick a large one and see what’s happening. Believe me, you wont regret it.

Food exploring. We watch all these famous people on television trying these different places out to eat, and say to ourselves, I would love to try that place. Where is that place, or how is it that I missed that place, I drive right past it all the time? Well its because when we go on trips, we look mostly to famous monuments, and attractions, however restaurants aren’t those. Here is something to consider, most important discussions, impressions, and connections with people are over meals. So why not improve your repertoire and explore food places that you have always wanted. You can check out food network, ask your friends or check on yelp, and see where the road takes you. I can promise, you, not only will this give you a great motivation to work out when you get back, but while doing it you wont feel guilty because the food is so good. She will love this, why, because no one else has ever done this with her before.

Visit a small town or beach house. With September starting, school starts, prime time television, starts and the holidays will be right upon you before you know it. So why not take a nice weekend trip and relax to celebrate the summer. Pick a nice small town or a beach town and just explore the smaller things that they have. Places like Solvang, San Luis Obispo, or even Annapolis are small towns with a lot of history, quaint shops and amazing character that you can find refreshing from the hustle and bustle of the suburban and city life. Take time to appreciate things as they come, and discover things that only a slower pace of life can help you see. Light that bonfire you have waited years to experience again. Stay up all night playing board games that you remember in the past. You might find yourself doing this for years to come.

Men, Phones, & A Purse

These days we all value things differently, especially when it comes to accessories and essentials. Things that were once important have been replaced with newer things that carry more value. Before your wallet, then your keys were the most important thing for you. If you lost either one of those, things would be disarray. However the cell phone today is now on top.

You may wonder why? Well it connects you to everything in your world. Your friends, family, business and those you meet passing by. You can keep current with your business via email, escape with games and have fun with snapchat or other apps that catch your attention. Why is this important? Mainly because we dont part from our cell phones. Most not for even a minute while working, working out, on a date or even with friends. That phone is your sidekick to fighting and maneuvering the world and all its challenges.

Recently I had a conversation with a friend and we talked about that, and the point was made that if you part with your cellphone, even for a little while, there is an element of trust there. You might miss a text message, a facebook update, email or phone call. So when a man asks a woman to hold his cell phone, most notably in her purse, there is a higher level of trust. It is a step in building a relationship or friendship.

Think back, when was the last time you asked a female friend, or a girlfriend to hold your cell phone? If you haven’t, why not? Is your phone that important to be by your side all the time? If you did, think why. Was it because it didn’t fit somewhere and you were holding too much? Or was it more because you knew where you were needed to be and it didn’t matter who was calling because you wanted to hang with your friend. Its almost like leaving your cellphone in the car or at home and not worrying about it because the time with that person, cool friend or otherwise, makes up for the time.

Remember, you don’t have to like her romantically to do that, she can just be a good friend. It doesn’t have to be every time, but next time or the first time, know what it means. If she asks you now, you may think to yourself, is it a test or a trick? Probably not, however. after she reads this article, it probably will be a test.

Temperatures hitting over 100 in many places across the country, keeping cool while being cool can be hard to do. Thunderstorms, along with humidity in the Midwest, and dry heat on the West can be a bit much, especially for a traveler. Here is how you can do something simple to keep your class in the sun of 2013.

Give your jeans a break. Linen is used across the world in places where the temperature is always above 80+, and the sun is not always your friend. The reason is because it is light, covers the body and allows air to flow through it to help cool you off day or night. The best part about it is that it flows nicely and it looks good wrinkled too! Stick to the lighter colors such as white, light blue, light grey, tan, and the lighter pastel colors. It comes in short sleeve and long sleeve, shorts, and pants that can be dressed up or down. So go to the store and pick up yours now.

Give most formal wear a vacation. Going semi casual is okay when it comes to parties, and most events. If the wedding you are going to, especially if its outside, you can wear a nice linen suit, or even forgo the jacket and just go with a nice shirt, tie and comfortable slacks. The sun isn’t a suit’s best friend sometimes, so relax a bit, be respectful and show up to have fun.

Socks off. No need to have them on all the time. With the temperatures going as high as they are, why add another layer? With the right shoes or sandals, the look is great giving a nice casual and approachable stylish look. If you have never done this, then it may feel weird at first. So start off by wearing Toms. Relatively inexpensive, good summer style that goes great with linen or jeans, and for a good cause since a portion goes to people in need with every purchase of a pair. So save on laundry, make sure your feet and shoes are clean and walk on, sock free!

Let your summer colors shine bright, like a diamond. Bright colors in the spring and summer are a great way to help you stay cool. Bright colors are known to repeal heat and light, thus allowing you to not heat up as much when the sun is beaming in the late afternoon. Moreover, bright colors, even subtle colors such as red, pink, and green with the right color combination will help you stand out in a fashionable way. Don’t be afraid of wearing pink, lavender, or even some pastel colors. They not only look good on us men, but women LOVE when you wear it. Please don’t be a walking color chart, wear it with a base color such as grey, tan or blue to ease into it and see how your image becomes much better.

People In Your Life

As you go throughout your life, you run into different people along the way. Each of them meaning something different to you in your life, especially if they stay a bit longer than the man at the coffee stand this morning, or the woman you sat next to on the subway on the afternoon ride home. Identifying what each one means to you can mean the difference of success and failure in a lot of different ways. Moreover, knowing who is who in your life can help you avoid or enjoy many years with the right people. So here are a few things to remember about the people in your life.

FRIENDS

When I say friends, this is not the person you hang out with when you go bowling, or the person you see at the parties here and there but your true friends. Someone you can confide in. These can be mentors as well as friends of any age, sex, or financial status. If you have 3 or 4 of them in your lifetime, consider yourself lucky, so if you don't have a lot of these, don't feel so bad or be concerned. Additionally, to dedicate the right amount of care, you cannot have a lot of friends, such as 15-30 or so, because that friendship would become diluted.

Friends are about growing together. They help you, guide you and do their best to be patient with you when you are not at your best. They may not always be there with you, but most trials and tribulations they will go through with you. Their phone call is just the same as a knock on the door. If they can’t help you, then they say so or do there best to find someone who can. The best part about friends is that they are there to charge you up when you have given so much to others that look up to you or you lead in some way. Additionally they stop you from making a mistake, and telling you when you are wrong. They tell you the truth, not because they want to hurt you, but because it will help you.

You cannot get to your full potential unless you have a few of these. Remember is that you can be friend to someone else, however they are not a friend to you. There is nothing wrong with that. But normally it is reciprocal. Your romantic partner in life should be your friend.

ACQUAINTANCE

Also known as “casual friends”. They are about, your reputation and just like the things you like. They will hang with you when things go well and might be around if they aren’t. However they will not get in the weeds with you. If they find someone else that gets them closer to where they want to be, they will go with them. Examples of this are people who you go to events with from time to time, and have no real prior history other than just those events or situations. Sometimes this is a casual running group, people who go bowling or to the movies, or even work on a project. Once the project is done, then you rarely hear from them. Another example of this are short term romantic relationships, since they like you because of what you are doing or your current image, not because of you and what you are about. The caveat here is that people can easily mistake them for friends, because the two are similar. Acquaintance can become a friend over time, which is a good thing. When you receive less than what you feel in return consistently, then they could be an acquaintance.

TEMPORARY ACQUAINTANCE

People that you know or will meet that you will know for a short time, and may see here and there because of circles of friends or places you go, but are short lived because they are here to fulfill a purpose. This is commonly referred as the person who was in your life for a reason. They may help you see or realize something, or help you change direction.

Think of it this way, when you travel on a plane, most of the time you go alone, and there are 200+ people flying with you. During that flight time, 1-18+ hours, you are in it together, if something happens, you will work together to get through it, but once the plane lands, that’s it. Or when there is construction, all the equipment arrives to do the repairs, yet once the job is done, then everything is removed and whatever was repaired. This would be something that you are working on in your life, and they helped you through it. Converging to a specific place because of a common purpose, but when its all done. This can be great because they help you get through it, but can be bad if you think they are your friend and not. A lot of people get hurt this way.

DISTANT ACQUAINTANCE

This is one that most people don't pay too much attention to, not because of how infrequent you see them, but their importance to you. These are people that you know, who are good for the most part, however there is something or some habit that you don't like, and seeing them in some way, is a reminder of what not to do or a past that isn’t so glamorous to you. For example, that one person who is great, but always gets drunk and becomes disrespectful. The person who always cheats on their partner, or gambles. The one who is always single because of the unrealistic standards for a partner. They are important to you because they display the behaviors of something you don’t like and see the results of what happens. The important part of all this is to watch out, because you might just be this person to someone else. So do a self evaluation and if so, make the adjustments so you are a different type of friend.

Public Transportation Commute Guidance

Going to work to the gym, to dinner and a move, rushing home, in most major cities public transportation is a way of life. Getting from place to place is all about utilizing this service that is best around your schedule to fit theirs.

However, in the shuffle, a lot of manners are missed when so many people are just moving to get on, get off, catch the transfer or snag a seat that we forget some of the basics when it comes to respecting each other to make this experience more pleasant for everyone. So lets take a step back and remind ourselves what and why some of these things are important to help make our experience a pleasant one.

Simple

Music volume. We all love music. It’s great to sing to, dance to, reminisce on the days of old, and right there to create memories of tomorrow. There are many different genre’s, and there is nothing like it to get you going in the morning, or help you relax after a hard day’s work.

However, we all like different things, so when on the subway, bus or train, turn your music down, and leave the singing to the artist for now. It’s understandable that when the beat hits, the words just come out sometimes, but to be honest, you hit that note best in the shower and not out of it. This goes from country music, to r&B, pop and our old great favorite hip-hop.

Someone riding with you may want to sleep or just rest, and your beats aren’t helping that at all. A good indication is that someone is looking right at you when you are listening and or sing too loud. Don’t you worry, you will be back on the street, or at home soon enough where you can sing to your heart’s content. However, in the process, you will gain a lot more respect.

Sophisticated

Cell phones. Most people feel they cannot live without their cell phones. If you lose your keys or your cell phone, most people will look for their cell phone first. Amazing isn't it? Yet its understandable because so much is now connected to it. So it is expected for you to be on it, while commuting using public transportation.

Yet, we don't need to know when it goes off all the time. So watch the volume of the ring tone. I’m sure you will hear it, and if you are not to sure, turn it to vibrate. I know you should feel that something moving around in your purse or pants leg. If you do need to have the volume up, please be cautious of the ringtone?

Talking about booty and ho’s is all your thing and we are not nor should we judge the music, however there are ladies and sometimes children around. We should respect them enough to subject them to such things without their consent. I fully believe in freedom of speech, but that also come with a responsibility to respect. Lastly, if you are on the phone, we all don't need to know your conversation in full detail. So if you are on one end of the subway, train, or bus, and we can hear you on the other side, then its too loud. Be careful, because your outside voice could put you outside.

Giving up your seat. This simply is the easiest yet most passed up act of kindness that is ignored. It is understandable that you are tired, and have a long day. The best thing for a bit of time, especially if you have been on your feet all day is to just sit. There are people, who have done this far longer than us, our elders. They have worked many more years, and considering the past, in much harsher conditions, so they earned the right to sit down after a hard days work. Remember, that could be your mom, dad, your wife in the future or even you, so stand a bit longer for that person who is past your years.

Additionally someone who is handicapped, whether it is temporarily or permanently, give up your seat. They have a much more difficult time, depending on the handicap, moving around so be nice and let them sit. Moreover, a gentleman will give up his seat for a woman. Some are probably thinking, well we are in an age where women want to be equal, and want to be treated as such, so they can stand just like myself. This is true. Women are strong and in the last 20 years have made more positive progress than men.

Additionally they fared better in the recession than men, however, women are the mother to our children, our companions and ultimate support system, so take the time and show her a small gesture of appreciation and let her sit in your seat. She and everyone else will appreciate it, and after you will feel good because karma will circle in your favor.
