New feather earrings

I went gaga over the first season of Pretty Little Liars because I liked the story. It was something new: who killed Alison? Is she still alive? Who was A? However, when I finished reading all eight books by Sara Shephard, I mainly watched PLL because the girls are too pretty and their individual fashion sense rocks. It was fascinating to check out what clothes they wore and what accessories they have. I was especially blown away by Aria's feather earrings...

...and so I thought that if I find the perfect feathers I'd make my own pair. I'd like to think that I am artsy-fartsy like dear little Aria Montgomery. I have previously made three pairs and posted them here, but I wanted to make something more fabulous.

Here are my latest designs. I hope to add more over the weekend. Enjoy and indulge in my feather fashion passion!

Feather trapeze: these black and red feathers serve as the perfect complement to these hoops made of coral, shell, glass, wood, acrylic, and seed beads. The five-inch chains dangling off the hooks give it a funkier and edgier vibe.

Martha Stewart blows me away. She's so nifty and crafty (which I also am) and so neat and organized (I could use a lot of help here). I just love her ideas. Watching her show makes me happy and so inspired. She's one of my craft heroines. How I wish I could be just like her (except for the part where she was sent to prison).

Decisions decisions

So I have decided to devote my time mostly to my craft/s (I am now just learning to bake). I am about to quit my job and just be that quirky creative person that I always wanted to be but never got the courage to really be (get that?).

Well anyway, I should now be blogging more often as I am expecting to be able to produce more items. I am also going to incorporate mini tutorials for those who would like to learn how to do these stuff that I have been tinkering with for years.

The month of May: organizing and decluttering

As usual, I haven't updated this blog for a long time (as if I have a lot of followers who would miss me! eyes roll...haha!) Anyway, it's the last day of April, and May should be an exciting month for me.

I had my e-store properly designed, and I am formally launching it tomorrow (although it still needs a lot of tweaking). This is a one-woman store you know, and I do everything from designing to taking pictures, etc...I'm glad that I found someone who can do the site for me and who allowed me to advertise on their Facebook page and have my products used during their photo shoots (I know! Isn't that great? Gives me a lot of exposure). I am hoping that my business would soon take off and that it would soon be stable enough to support me. I'd like to be able to focus on it, but I still can't do that for now. So til then, I am all the manpower that I've got. I really have to be able to organize and schedule my activities well so everything will fit within 24 hours (I have a day job too.)

Another thing that I am looking forward to is having a work station FINALLY set up for me (yes!). Apparently, my mom got tired of having to shove things off the dinner table and kitchen counter where I work (no, beads don't get mixed up with our dinner, but the table cloth has suffered a lot of snags and frays due to my tools, wires, and pins hehehe), so she told me that she's having our spare room re-done and I could incorporate my work station. Yay! I am looking at installing a lot of small shelves to hold all my beading supplies, plus a place with adjustable lighting for when I take my pictures. Kaching! Kaching! I can feel a whole starting to burn in my pocket, but it's really a good and wise investment. Aside from the fact that I'd have my own space, it should solve all these back, leg, and eye problems I have every time I make my accessories. I do a lot of sitting, standing, slouching, and squinting in my current work area that at the end of the day I feel sore all over. Gotta think about ergonomics when I design my work station, and maybe when it's done I can share a picture of it here.

i haven't been able to update this blog lately. anyway, i have quite a lot of products whose pictures deserve to be published on this blog. i will do that tomorrow since i do not have work.

i'll be trying out cold porcelain clay tomorrow. i've researched several recipes already. i am hoping that this will work out right. i didn't really like clay when i was a child, so i don't know if i will be successful in using this medium. anyway, there is always a first time. :)

Superstitious Beliefs Regarding the Origin of Earrings:

According to legend, evil spirits were thought to be able to enter the body through any of its openings and take control. The first earrings were probably worn to bar the way to these spirits.
According to another folklore pierced earrings help to strengthen weak eyes. If set with emeralds, they are particularly effective. Gold earrings are often worn by those wishing to cure headaches, though some say to wear one gold earring and one silver for this purpose.
Back in the days of sailing ships and pirates a man would wear an earring if he had survived a shipwreck, typically a gold hoop, and that is where we get the classic pirate image from.
