This is the same run of screens, I think, that went in five years ago and were first used to hump the then-new Microsoft Vista software.

Here’s the description of this effort:

“Orbital” is like a flying dream set in 3 cities. It places viewers at the center of cosmopolitan locations, slowly and delicately rotating across 40 HD screens in the American Airlines International Terminal. The piece was designed to work in relationship with the viewer’s movement through a long hallway, filling their field of view with vast time lapsed urban panoramas moving through space to create the illusion of hovering at a dreamlike speed through a rotating cityscape. The audio was carefully crafted, inspired by the likes of Steve Reich, to create a forward momentum and almost hypnotic pulsing effect while incorporating subtle washes of urban soundscapes.

The pieces were shot with a motion control time lapse rig in New York, Paris and Barcelona, creating enormous sequences of photography that were then stitched and choreographed together at the Mill.

The client is Citibank and its airline credit card, and the agency is Publicis. Very cool work. Very big budget. I like the case study aspect to this, and wonder why more projects are not captured in ways that explain what was done and how it was viewed.

The attraction utilises RFID wristbands and Kinect sensors to identify, track and interact with visitors. Live Park 4D, located at the Korea International Exhibition Centre (Kintex), is packed with visual interactive exhibits that utilise massive touchscreens, 3D video, holographic displays and augmented reality.

Guests can create avatar versions of themselves, allowing them to enter the virtual world of the theme park.

The attraction sprawls over a space of nearly 1,000m² and comprises 65 attractions including a virtual "hologram" performance by a Korean B-boy crew and a 360° stereoscopic cinema.

Lunar Face pavilion provides atmospheric, immersive areas which respond to movement and sound. It is an example of how Live Park also aims to combine art with attraction. Developers have placed art installations alongside interactive exhibits, sometimes blurring the lines between the two.

Almost all exhibits feature an interactive element, often allowing visitors’ avatars to perform alongside "holograms". The area can also be transformed into a nigh-time entertainment venue with live performances and DJs.

Rugged, reliable and realistic, with low total cost of ownership; these were the projector requirements and deliverables of the huge projectiondesign upgrade of the two simulation bridges at the Marine Training Centre in Singapore.

Swire Marine Training Centre in Singapore, operated by Swire Pacific Offshore, is the first facility of its kind in Asia. Swire’s Marine Training Centre has the ability to fully simulate the working environment of an offshore support vessel providing training in bridge management, anchor handling, dynamic positioning, and engine-room operations.

Upgrading with in total 24 units of projectiondesign F82 sx+ DLP®projectors and WB1920 warp and blend processors, two simulation bridges now reap the benefits of a more stable light output and an easier maintainable system over time – and that at a much lower cost of ownership than the previous installation

Make your product get noticed with Transparent Displays.

Transparent Displays are an amazing product that can be used in all industry areas as an efficient and innovative tool for delivering your message to your target audiences.

These displays are mostly applied to store windows and showcase events, but can be used in many other ways, the possibilities are endless.
The person can look right through the display like glass, being able to see what is being displayed behind, the product itself, and the animated message on the display. These combination is more impactful than a 3D display, once that the material and the virtual are working together. The transparent displays consume 90% less electricity compared with a conventional display.
The displays can be delivered in different sizes, as a glass or mirror and with or without interactive multi touch. You will not be disappointed

LikeBelt concept reads NFC tags with a hip thrust

Enterprising developers have come up with a 'LikeBelt', an NFC-enabled belt buckle that can register Facebook 'likes' or check-ins with a thrust of the wearer's hips.
The humorous concept, essentially a Nexus S handset with a home-brewed extension to deliver the NFC antenna to the large belt buckle area, is designed to highlight innovative possibilities for NFC.
"We wanted to explore NFC and think more creatively about what can be done with it besides just purchasing," Nathan Martin, CEO at developer Deeplocal, told Wired.
The company, a group of artists and engineers which has its roots in Carnegie Mellon University and which describes itself as "an innovation studio", has posted instructions for making LikeBelts online.
If your life is anything like ours, it's in sore need of more pseudo-holographic helicopters. Fortunately, YouTube user programming4fun has come up with a solution, using Microsoft's Kinect beta SDK and a Windows Phone handset. The system, pictured above, basically consists of a Kinect and a 3D engine; the former tracks the position of a viewer and automatically adjusts the image projected by the latter, creating the illusion of a 3D landscape. In this case, that landscape happened to feature a holographic helicopter, which could be controlled using a phone's accelerometer and a Windows Phone 7 app (apparently called HoloController).

The new kiosk, which was the result of an NEC partnership with Monster Media, is a "fully interactive system," according to Rich ventura, NEC's director of sales-vertical solutions.

"The sky's the limit," for deployments anywhere there is a perceived wait time, from grocery stores to coffee shops, Ventura said.
Wishing your vehicle had a better-integrated entertainment system than the iPad you're forced to futz with in the backseat? If GM has its way, you may be in luck. The auto manufacturer has joined forces with the Future Lab at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Israel to transform boring rear windows into interactive touchscreens. Since there are no plans to work the tech into production models right now, R&D gave the students a blank... er, clear canvas on which to create solutions.

The results include apps that allow an animated character to respond to scenery outside the window and finger drawing on window steam. Two other applications enable a look into users' windows worldwide and a music stream-and-share with your mates on the road. "Traditionally, the use of interactive displays in cars has been limited to the driver and front passenger, but we see an opportunity to provide a technology interface designed specifically for rear seat passengers," said Tom Seder, GM R&D lab group manager.

The Multitouch Globe, according to a company press release, works better in some applications than a flat touchscreen surface because many natural designs are better displayed via dome shape. The company said it expects a variety of industries to be interested in the technology, including geographical information systems, museums, TV networks and visitor attraction or entertainment facilities.

DISPLAX's patent-pending projected capacitive multitouch technology is available as a transparent flexible polymer film that can be applied to non-conductive flat surfaces, giving them multitouch capabilities. Contents are displayed using a projector and a special "fish-eye" lens to adapt the projection to the spherical surface.

The technology will be on display for the first time at Integrated Systems Europe, Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in Amsterdam.
Developed in conjunction with Dimenco, the new displays are designed to have the sharpest and most vivid 3D resolution in the market.

The no-glasses 3D displays can achieve up to 28 viewing angles via lenticular technology. With this technology, audiences are able to see the best quality around objects from the standing spot in front of the display itself. With a wide 3D viewing angle and the ability to change the optimal viewing distance of the no-glasses 3D displays, audiences will benefit from a memorable visual experience.

“With more and more screens all competing for your attention, this is the one that stands out from the crowd with a deep and truly stunning 3D experience,” explained Craig Rathbun, Sales and Marketing Director of MMD North America.

The no-glasses 3D display line can play both 2D and 3D (2D+Z) images and videos. This makes it extremely flexible as a digital signage tool.

The integrated Dimenco rendering core that works with the Dimenco interface format (2D+Z), not only gives both content creators and end users full control of the depth-effect characteristics of their 3D images, but also offers simple creation of 3D content. The BDL4251VS has received a nomination for the 2012 Technology InAVation Awards. MMD demonstrated this technology at CES 2012 January 10-13, 2012 at the Bellagio Hotel.

Samsung Smart Window demonstration

We always thought the window was pretty mature technology, but Samsung's here at CES to prove us wrong. The Smart Window, currently in prototype phase, casts a touch-controlled interface onto transparent glass with ambient light. Samsung was demonstrating a whole range of applications, from Twitter to Microsoft Office, all touch-controlled and viewable directly on the glass. Images are viewable in daylight, and there's a nighttime mode that uses side-lighting and flipped colors. You can even draw some virtual blinds to control the flow of light. It's difficult to see how Samsung might turn this into a commercial product, but it definitely looks more useful than a transparent TV.

The firm will be showcased at ISE 2012
in Amsterdam from Jan 31st to Feb 2nd.

Global in-venue message management company, ComQi, will showcase delayMirror—a new shopping experience tool—at Integrated Systems Europe 2012.

The delayMirror is a video mirror that allows shoppers to view themselves with a three second delay, meaning they can view clothing they are trying on from every angle. The system has been under development for the past three years, and had several trial prototypes. The new launch will see ComQi bring its considerable expertise to its ongoing evolution and heralds the all important possibility of putting digital advertising signage directly into the changing room.

“When you look at yourself in the delayMirror it is almost as if you were looking at someone else— a digital doppelganger. They look like you, dress like you but they are doing what you did a few moments ago. delayMirror provides a magical experience for shoppers,” says ComQi’s chief technical officer, Max Stevens-Guille.

Wünsch Dir Was bei Migros – Supermarkt testet Wunschbaum

Migros Wunschbaum (Foto: Migros)

Samsung onthult 55 inch Super OLED TV

Provision -3-D kiosk contains a 3-D holographic display

Provision Interactive Technologies has integrated Intel's AIM Suite, an audience impression metric technology, into its 3-D holographic kiosk displays.

In addition, Provision has partnered with Premier Retail Networks, to provide advertising sales, creative strategy, programming and custom content for the kiosks that will soon roll out in thousands of prime locations with retailers nationwide, according to a company press release.

Each Provision -3-D kiosk contains a 3-D holographic display at the top of the device with a 2-D interactive screen below that provides consumers access to information, promotions, rewards, coupons and product samples. Brand marketers will be able to run 3-D advertising and engage viewers through the interactive interface. The ability to dispense coupons and product samples from the kiosks allows advertisers to offer highly motivating sales influencers at the point of purchase.

"The opportunity for Provision to partner with Intel and PRN in retailing is exciting because this provides a complete integrated package -- PRN's entertaining content helps retailers create an engaging 3D experience for their shoppers, and advanced analytics is beneficial for marketers," Provision CEO Curt Thornton, said in the release.

The AIM Suite technology allows Provision to anonymously monitor viewer information on key demographics and metrics such as the amount of time a person spends looking at the 3-D holographic display. This information leads to more targeted, relevant advertising for shoppers, and marketers can gather more accurate data on consumer behavior and purchase influencers, Thornton said.

How Many Ads Do You Need to Sell to Keep a DOOH Network Afloat?

By combining this information with a basic knowledge of venue traffic profiles, we can get a better understanding of how the break-even analysis plays out in real world scenarios:

•For a network in low-traffic venues that sees only 1,000 visitors/venue/month, you'd need to sell a whopping 77 units of ad time on each screen to break even. If those are all 15-second spots, that amounts to over 19 minutes of commercial air time (double if the spots are 30 seconds long).

•Moderate traffic venues like retail stores and specialty markets might serve 150 customers each day, or around 4,500 per month. Screens in these locations would need to sell about 17 units of ad time to break even.

•Meanwhile, a reasonably high-traffic QSR location might serve 1,500 customers a day. A network built in these types of venues would only have to sell about 2 units of ad time on each screen to break even, since each ad would be shown to about 45,000 people/month.

•Finally, a high traffic venue like a popular supermarket can easily serve over 2,500 customers per day. Assuming that all of them came across the DOOH network's screen, that owner would only have to sell one ad-unit of time to break even. Of course, at these high volume locations, ad buyers may be less comfortable paying the full CPM price, especially in situations where it's unlikely that all customers will actually see the screen.
