Nothing for the bulls. They just gotta sit on their positions and enjoy this one (until something changes), while taking multiple breaks at good ole Starbucks. Btw, I was at the mall yesterday and there were only 10 folks waiting in line right in front of me. Nordstrom is packed.

The bears only focus on the 10% of unemployment, but the bulls focus on the other 90% who are employed and have been saving tons of cash, ready to deploy once they feel the economy really is getting better and asset prices are going higher.

Dow 11,000-12,000 still looking good for this year.

What a wonderful morning to wake up to, eh?

Bulls everywhere getting indulgent and unhindered.

Be on the lookout for MGM. Trading at 10.22 now and looking really good on the charts. Bull ride, baby! Goldman Sachs just raised estimates this morning but Barron's still doesn't like it. And who wins when Barron's goes against Goldman?

And why wouldn't they? The universe is too big to be just us.

Japans wants to beam solar from space

By 2030, Japan hopes to build a solar station in space, that beams the energy back to Earth via lasers and microwaves. One wonders why they couldn't just do this on Earth like Sunpower. Perhaps it's because they don't have enough land, or sunshine, or both.

Skydivers better get out of the way! And the Japanese may see roasted ducks dropping from the sky on a daily basis.

The sudden loss of memory, called “transient global amnesia” or TGA, is caused by pressure in blood vessels in the brain, and can be triggered by strenuous activities, bowel movements, or – commonly – sex.

The 59-year-old woman, known only as Alice, had the worrying experience after she and her husband Scott had sex last August. She suddenly, albeit temporarily, lost all memory of the last several years and the ability to form new memories.

After sex they turned on the television, which was showing the Beijing Olympics, and she asked: "Is there an Olympics?"

Scott told CNN: "I saw that something was wrong, so I asked her, 'OK, what day is it?'"

When she couldn’t answer, he asked her to name the current President, to which she replied: "Bill Clinton." Scott called an ambulance and she was taken to hospital, where it was initially thought she may have had a stroke.

However, neurologists were soon able to diagnose TGA, a relatively common experience in the over-50s.

Dr Louis Caplan, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, said: "[Sex] is actually a well-known precipitator.

"One of the things people have done to look at transient global amnesia is to look at frequency of various precipitants and sex always comes out as one of the most common."

People with a history of migraines and severe headaches are more prone to TGA.

Although her memory has otherwise returned fully, Alice remains unable to remember the act of intercourse that triggered her attack. However, it is likely that she enjoyed herself.

Dr Caplan said: "It usually is after climax that [TGA] develops."

Remember the transaction tax that some lawmakers wanted to put in place that would charge traders a transaction fee of something like .05% per trade? That would effectively destroy almost all daytraders and many short term traders.

Good thing Geithner is on our side.

The transaction tax is what happens when people short the market into the abyss. Capitalism is very much tied to the stock market. Anytime we have markets plunging into the abyss and threatens to destroy our financial system, the govt institutes trading curves. Few years ago, it was the Pattern Day Trader Rule. Now this.

Tell ya what. If you don't want those kinds of trading curves to be put into law, you had better not wish the SPX goes to 300. That would be sowing the seeds to your own destruction.

You see, permabears just don't understand, or care. They just want to be right at all costs. Good thing for the rest of us is that they're almost always wrong. The Pattern Day Trader Rules is already a painful nuisance for all small traders. But this transaction tax? Oh boy, you might as well cut off your balls.

And that's what this woman did to her stepfather, and cooked it.

Bad Ways To Trade Stocks

Ok, I'm feeling good today and I want to save the newbies (or even experienced traders) from years of wasting lots of time and money. Many never pass "the test" and they end up losing all their capital before ever getting a real shot of consistently making good money in the markets.

Here are the things you should avoid doing (I'm telling you this with sincerity, that many of the gurus out there trying to sell you something will not tell you), and this is by no means the complete list:

1) Trading penny stocks. Microsoft was never a penny stock, despite what they tell you. Odds are very much stacked against you in this highly manipulated and unregulated market. If you must trade penny stocks, shorting them should be your aim. Why wouldn't you want to short garbage stocks - the antithesis of Warren Buffett stocks?

Shorting penny stocks will require you to have good chart reading skills. Honestly, if you could read charts, why would you ever what to trade penny stocks? You can do well even with a small account of only $10,000 trading good stocks like WFC or USB if you know what you're doing. The gains might be smaller but you can put much more money in them than you would with penny stocks; thus, the penny stock approach loses appeal even if you're good at it. Wouldn't you want to trade for great returns with lesser risk?

2) Going HERE and buy stocks that are up. All the newbies do this. The top 10 gainers on the list are generally horrible stocks that get a temporary boost due to some news. And the next day, they fall down. And people wonder why they keep on losing money using that list.

3) Trading options. Unless you know you're the top 1% of traders who has a special edge, avoid options trading like the plague. I use options once in awhile to hedge my long term portfolio if I don't want to sell the actual stocks. But most times, it's probably better to just sell the stocks. Options are insurance and should be used as such. 9 out of 10 times I buy puts to hedge my stocks, I lose money on the puts. That's insurance for you. Now, imagine the folks who mostly trade options. They (and this includes the very smart guys that seem to know the theory of options inside out) will blow up their accounts time and time again. Most will not admit it.

4) Trading futures. Unless you know you're the top 1% of traders who has a special edge, avoid futures trading like the plague. That's 20 to 1 leverage you're dealing with. Forget it, man. If leverage appeals to you, then try double or triple etfs - which I don't recommend either. If you can't make money in those consistently, how can you expect to make money in futures trading? Futures traders blow up their accounts frequently. Most, even the gurus, will not admit it. Watch out for sharks out there that try to show you how well they're doing by showing you their graphs of "virtual" futures trading (usually with only 1 year's worth of data when they got a lucky streak), and then sell you a subscription service. The sharks will not have their real trading accounts third-party verified. They won't. Never. This is how brutal futures trading really is.

5) Refusing to listen to Warren Buffett. Warren Buffett has average 20% annually compounding returns for 40 years on his money. If futures and options trading is so great, how come we got none of those guys even remotely coming close to dethroning Buffett? You can double or triple your money at a casino every day, but you will eventually go broke. Why? It's the risk element that was not addressed. Jesse Livermore was bankrupted no less than five times, and he was the top 1% of traders, if not the top trader, of his time.

6) Not addressing the risk element of the risk and reward equation. Options traders, futures traders, penny stock traders are notorious for this. If you want to succeed and reap consistent returns without risking blowing up your account, then you always have to address the risk factor. You want great returns but you don't want the extreme risk associated with it. What's the point of getting staggering returns one year if the next year you blow up? What a sad waste of time and money!

7) Not addressing how you're going to continue to grow your money for the following year, the year after next, and ten years later. If the first year you made $75,000 on your $100,000 account, how do you plan to grow it the next year and then the next year and the next 5 to 10 years? If you trade only penny stocks, options or futures, you're going have a very BIG problem. The huge risk is still there with these risky trading instruments. You know you're only a few trades from blowing up if you got your great returns by putting a huge chunk of your money into every trade in these instruments. As odds would have it, you'll blow up.

Advice given to employers:

Hire ugly. All other things being equal, I'd give the nod to an ugly candidate. It’s not charity: They have less value in the marketplace and can be hired less expensively, even though looks have, for most jobs, little or no bearing on job performance. I've found that, on average, ugly people are more likely to be kind and to work harder because they know they're working at a disadvantage. And unattractive people are more likely to stay with me because they tend to have a tough time getting hired, in part because they generally don’t network efficiently. If I treat unattractive employees well, they’re usually very loyal.

Thoughts about Monday (and beyond)

After a nice dinner, I got to sit down and started looking at the charts and fundamentals of several leading corporations. And I have to tell you, I think the bears are flying blind. Desperate and clueless, they'll say anything to get the market down. The world is supposedly falling apart, according to them, yet the market is still flying high right in their faces. They can't deal with the disconnect and it's driving them raving mad. Maybe the market is seeing something in advance that these furry salmon-loving guys don't see yet.

Yes we have 10% unemployment. But the highways still look very full during traffic hours and especially Fridays. People still buy Starbucks lattes and they still shop at Amazon.com. When the economy improves more, hiring will start picking up again, as sure as day and night.

Anyway, we should gap higher on Monday and if so, it will be a big gap. In the event I'm wrong and we gap down, you back up the truck with stocks because we will rally.

Update: I take the gap higher back. Will have to re-evaluate this weekend. We probably gap down but end up closing green.

It should not matter much whether we gap higher or lower on monday. I'm just a little torn right now about the gap direction. Either way, the takeaway is I think we get another rally. So that's why I bought.

If we gap down, I buy more.

But today I've trimmed some stocks I purchased yesterday, stocks I did not get in with great entry and seems to be stuck from going higher.

Stocks like SPWRA, CRM, GCI, and PALM.

I do not need these.

But I have a large position in WFC.

Update: I've sold WFC and will re-enter above today's high.

AMZN, the virtual Walmart, hits another high today.

AMZN and CRM are my favorite tech plays going forward. And, they will move forward at the bears' expense.

AMZN gapped higher this morning and it didn't even get close to filling it. So we have a runaway gap. And that usually portends to higher prices ahead.

Railroad stocks are now free money for those willing just just bend over and pick it up.

Actually seeing light inside a tunnel may not be a good thing for bears.

So far, the trend for the next 1-2 weeks is still up and nothing has changed to make me change my outlook yet.

In other words, the right play is to buy the dips.

The only thing changed is that Debra can no longer teach or come into contact with children (other than those of family and friends').

The 2-day batwings formation was not complete.

But after this morning's gap down, the batwings is now completed, and the move is likely higher, in a big way.

However, this batwings formation is pretty decrepit, so......

Al Gore could become world's first carbon billionaire

I like that. I hope he becomes a multi-billionaire from all of this. And to the skeptics, why don't you smarten up a little bit and invest in green energy like Al Gore is doing? Why take a good man down into the oil pits?

Al Gore, the former US vice president, could become the world's first carbon billionaire after investing heavily in green energy companies.

Last year Mr Gore's venture capital firm loaned a small California firm $75m to develop energy-saving technology.

The company, Silver Spring Networks, produces hardware and software to make the electricity grid more efficient.

The deal appeared to pay off in a big way last week, when the Energy Department announced $3.4 billion in smart grid grants, the New York Times reports. Of the total, more than $560 million went to utilities with which Silver Spring has contracts.

The move means that venture capital company Kleiner Perkins and its partners, including Mr Gore, could recoup their investment many times over in coming years.

Few people have been as vocal about the urgency of global warming and the need to reinvent the way the world produces and consumes energy as Mr Gore. And few have put as much money behind their advocacy and are as well positioned to profit from this green transformation, if and when it comes.

Critics, mostly on the political right and among global warming sceptics, say Mr. Gore is poised to become the world's first "carbon billionaire," profiteering from government policies he supports that would direct billions of dollars to the business ventures he has invested in.

Representative Marsha Blackburn, Republican of Tennessee, has claimed that Mr Gore stood to benefit personally from the energy and climate policies he was urging Congress to adopt.

Mr Gore had said that he is simply putting his money where his mouth is.

"Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country?" Mr. Gore said. "I am proud of it. I am proud of it."

Starbucks giving bears another bad dose

I think if one wants to know where the economy is headed, SBUX is the best place to start. Their earnings are improving, enough to raise guidance for the fiscal year. SBUX has been a great barometer of market health, from the start of the bear market to the recover.

Starbucks Corp.'s profit soared in its fiscal fourth quarter, thanks mostly to cost-cutting efforts, but the retailer also saw improvement in demand for its coffee drinks.

Starbucks, which has been struggling in the recession as some consumers perceive its beverages as being too pricey, boosted its earnings outlook Thursday for the fiscal year that began a month ago and said it was cautiously optimistic about the coming holiday period.

The Seattle-based chain posted earnings of $150 million, or 20 cents a share, for the quarter ended ...

Dick Bove likes banks

He thinks many of the large banks will double by end of next year due to their massive earnings power and cash cushion.

For some reason, he still doesn't like Wells Fargo, citing unsustainable earnings.

Bove said earnings at U.S. banks will begin to recover in the second half of 2010 and triple within three years. Lenders have raised the level of cash on their balance sheets to a level where they don’t face the same risks of collapse that they did a year ago, he said.

“Getting another 100 percent out of these stocks from this level is not as big a move as one might think given where they’ve fallen from,” Bove, who works at Rochdale Securities LLC in Lutz, Florida, said in a telephone interview. In the latter half of 2010, “the potential is there for a really surprisingly large increase in bank earnings. That’s why people are buying bank stocks now and are ignoring the near-term losses. They’re buying them because the longer-term outlook for earnings is astoundingly positive,” he said.
