I have to be honest, I was a pretty big Tiger fan. While I didn't like his behaviour on the course and how he treated the fans, I appreciated watching the best ever. The scandal and the subsequent revealing of the real Tiger Woods has made it pretty much impossible to be a Tiger Fan. His recent struggles with injury, form and mental strength now leaves him as a side note when he actually plays in an event.

Massage for Golfers

Golfers sustain more injuries than you think. Statistically, more than 50% of golfers suffer from neck pain, lower back problems, stiffness in shoulders and elbows, lower leg imbalances or wrist injuries. If a golfer continues to play with a sore back, they risk further injuries to surrounding muscle groups. This can result in chronic pain cycles, which interfere with their enjoyment of the game. How can golfers help prevent injury from their favourite sport? With massage!

Bear Mountain Resort welcomed its largest group of guests to the golf resort yesterday, 300,000 honey bees from Big D Bees in the Comox Valley. Part of a broader commitment to sustainable living in the mountain resort community, the addition of honey bees not only supports the renewal of a species of pollinators critical to food production on the planet, it allows for the harvesting of organic honey that will find its way into the kitchen for the enjoyment of all resort guests.

Meet Our New Head Pro

I wanted to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself to all of you as the new Head professional at The Westin Bear Mountain. Being born and raised here on the island I am trilled with the opportunity to return home. The property is truly spectacular. About nine months ago we purchased our dream home here on the Mountain so I am not planning on going anywhere (we still have 33 years left on our mortgage) and hope to bring some stability to the operation. This will be a great spot for me, work is now so close to home I could walk, I probably won’t but I could. My wife works in sales for TD Bank, our son is almost 3 years old and his high energy level is matched only by our German Shepard/Boarder Collie so they keep me active on the home front too.
Career wise in past roles I have worked for GolfBC the last five years as Director of Golf at Arbutus Ridge. Prior to this I have worked as Golf Operations Manager at Fraserview, Head Professional at The Springs at Radium, Associate Professional at Carnmoney Golf Club, and Assistant Professional at The Fairmont Chateau Whistler. For Education I completed the Professional Golf Management Certificate and Business Administration Diploma at Camosun College and a Bachelors of Management Degree from the University of Lethbridge.
Here at Bear Mountain we have one of the best products in BC, we have a lot of work to do to win over the island locals but feel up to the challenge. We are kicking off the season with an open golf event called The Classic at The Bear April 16 and 17th. For locals from April 11th until the end of the month we have a Swing Into Spring Special that is just $89 including golf, cart, practice balls, a two for one voucher to return, a ten dollar food voucher, and an entry into a draw for prizes. For all of you Canucks fans out their like myself we will run a Game on at Bear Mountain special during each Canucks Playoff Game after noon on game nights golf including everything and a fifteen dollar food voucher to go along with our $8.95 steak sandwich and $4 Sleeman Sleeve Special- come out and play some golf and stay for the game in our Master's Lounge. If you are a fan of the property it has never been a better time to join with no money required down and an all inclusive membership offer on special until June 1st. If you are around the property my office door is open please come and say hello I am looking forward to meeting you shortly.
Sincerely,

Well spring has sprung at Bear Mountain and things are in full swing on the golf course and all around the resort.
We have had a busy few weeks in the restaurants with several successful dining events. Wine dinners from La Stella (Osoyoos), Stoneleigh (New Zealand),

When booking a pedicure, spa guests look forward to relaxation. Most guests want a clean area, clean footbath and clean tools. The most common safety question asked of spas is "How do you clean your tools?"

We are fortunate to work with hundreds of event planners over the course of the year, and we're often asked to provide unique ideas to planners on how to make their golf event stand out. Here's one activity I've heard of that sounds pretty exciting and would add some flair to your next event. Maybe we'll even see it at Bear Mountain.

It has been my experience in teaching golfers who don’t seem to score as well as they should and watching my partners in Pro-Am events that course management is one of the areas that most golfers can improve on. I have seen business people come from the office where they manage hundreds of employees and millions of dollars step onto the golf course and totally mismanage their golf games!

March Dining On The Mountain

March continues to be a busy month around the resort with many events past and upcoming!

The Phillips Brewers’ Dinner on Tuesday March 8 saw a great turn out and our culinary team blew the minds of those of us fortunate enough to take part! Lead by Executive Sous Chef, Josh Houston, the Panache kitchen did an incredible job of not only pairing the Phillips brews to the food, but actually used the nectar in the creation of all the dishes. Especially notable was the Chocolate Porter ice-cream! WOW!

The MAC just received a new infrared sauna! If you're unfamiliar with the health benefits an infrared sauna can bring you, read on!

What is an Infrared Sauna?
Infrared heat is effective radiant heat, just like the sun's soothing warmth. Radiant heat is more efficient than a conventional sauna because it warms you, not the air. Your body directly absorbs as much as 93% of the heat generated by an infrared sauna.
