New resident to Pinellas County, FL, Ana Gloria Garcia Guitierrez has recently come into contact with the long arm of Florida law. A witness photographed and reported the new Floridian genius attempting to mount and ride a manatee, an endangered animal protected by federal law. After a brief, but effective full scale man hunt Guitierrez surrendered herself to authorities with apologies stating that she was unaware this was illegal or in any way frowned upon.

Pinellas County Sheriff, Bob Gualtieri, has been quoted stating "Go ride a Jet Ski. Don't use animals. She has to be held accountable for her actions." He's clearly frustrated and exhausted with this reckless behavior, but I commend him offering a more socially acceptable option for water riding.

Under Florida law molesting or annoying the sacred creature is a second degree misdemeanor, and punishable by death. The manatee is not pressing charges, but did not care to comment.

Foo Fighters front man, Dave Grohl, casually announced that this would their last show for the foreseeable future. During the bands set at the Global Citizen Festival in New York's Central Park this Saturday, Grohl stated "without making a big deal about it, we don't have any shows after this. This is it, man. Honestly, I don't know when we're going to do it again... and this is the perfect place to do it"

Sad news indeed.

The Mayan calendar predicts 2012 to be the last year that bacon will ever be available…. Well, not really, but it will be more scarce and thus more expensive due to the recent drought. While the National Pork Producers Council promises that we will not see “bacon lines”, personally, I do not plan on taking any chances. I’ll be placing my order for this handy home appliance to ensure that I always have at least 7.0 cubic feet of frozen pork at the ready.

The Olympic snowboarder faces charges of public intoxication and vandalism after some drama that went down at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

A drunk person, apparently White, started the ruckus by pulling a fire alarm, causing the hotel to evacuate all guests. An employee then witnessed White destroying a hotel telephone, according to police. When the "Flying Tomato" tried to leave the scene, shit — as they might say — got real:

White reportedly attempted to flee the hotel in a cab but a citizen prevented the cab from leaving, telling the driver he was calling police. When White overheard their conversation, he allegedly kicked the citizen and fled on foot. The citizen reported that he chased White until White turned and ran into him apparently causing White to fall backwards and strike his head against a fence.

White is now free on his own recognizance. None of his several sponsors have commented on the arrest.

Has anyone seen or used this awesome looking product? The Cuppow looks like an amazing alternative to the ever terrible coffee travel mug and I'm guessing it would have prevented my disgraceful display on the train today.

This morning I committed the cardinal sin of the Chicago public transportation morning commute - I dropped my full cup of coffee having every last drop splash out and settle in to the rubber flooring of the train car. Watching my cardboard cup plummeting in slow motion to the floor, I had enough time for one small mental wish... that the lid stays on when my cup hits the floor and its piping hot contents stay put. The lid did not stay, nor did the contents.

While my fellow commuters summoned up their best "we're very disappointed in you for dropping your smelly cup of coffee on this train car that we're stuck on, dipshit" faces and directed them squarely at me, the train begins to move forward letting the spill freely pour from one end of the train car all the way to the opposite end sharing the situation with lucky riders 20 feet away.

I'm going to need a new cup of coffee.

Have you ever spent a day being a tourist in the city you live in? After being out of town weekend after weekend for friends' wonderful weddings all summer long, Whit and I thought it was about time for a little vacation in our own favorite city... Chicago.

We started the day with a low key brunch at Bakin' & Eggs in Lakeview. After filling up on some of the best chilquiles in the city we took a trip to the Garfield Park Conservatory. We spent hours touring the 10 acres of indoor and outdoor gardens. For the budget friendly entry price of zero dollars, you should feel encouraged to make a small donation to One Pane at a Time - the fund raising efforts to repair the catastrophic damages from an earlier hail storm that destroyed approximately half of the glass panes on the roofs of the conservatory's multiple greenhouses. These gardens and greenhouses are kept up in impeccable fashion, and provide you a sense of being in a completely different climate without ever leaving the city. Take a visit and get some fresh air in your lungs!

After a quick break at home we picked up our bicycles and rode to one of the great BYOBs in the city, Irazu Costa Rican Dining. I've never ordered anything here that was any less than outstanding. On this particular evening Whit got the veggie paella, and I opted for the plantain burrito, both were terrific. They make their own hot peppers in house and can vary by time of year from spicy to inedibly spicy. Ask your waiter about the heat level of the peppers on that day. You'll be happy you did.

If you forget to BYOB, not to worry(,amateur).There is a small wine shop that also has some booze and a few craft brews right across the street. Make note that Irazu is cash only, as it should be seeing that two of us were in, out, and with a solid buzz for under $30. This place is no secret and I don't believe they take reservations for groups under six. Plan on waiting a few for a table, but I think they bump you up the list if you're not a prick to the hostess.

Back on our bicycles we decided to venture back to the Northside. We pit stopped outside on a beautiful set of church steps and helped ourselves to our remaining wine while figuring out our next destination. Keeping in the spirit of gluttony, we headed off to a new neighborhood spot, Black Dog Gelato. We tried the Nutella (incredible!), and Chocolate gelato and enjoyed both flavors thoroughly while watching 40 year old drunks stumble out from Retro on Roscoe trying to make their way to their own next destination next door, Tony's Burritos.

While at a June 1982 concert by the Rolling Stones in West Berlin, Nena's guitarist Carlo Karges noticed that balloons were being released. As he watched them move toward the horizon, he noticed them shifting and changing shapes, where they looked like strange spacecraft (referred to in the German lyrics as a "UFO"). He thought about what might happen if they floated over the Berlin Wall to the Soviet sector.^[1]The English (but not the German) version tells about two children who buy 99 balloons at a toy shop and release them into the air, where faulty radar equipment is unable to identify the balloons. The German version starts with the narrator stating he will tell of a story about 99 balloons. Both versions then continue much in the same way with the government immediately put their troops on red alert and scrambles fighter jets to intercept the balloons, which ultimately triggers a nuclear war. Although originally in German, no countries are ever named. In the apocalyptic aftermath, the song's narrator stands in the rubble of the city and finds a single remaining balloon. Thinking of the other child, he releases the balloon.
